Within the framework of the LHC Injector Upgrade (LIU) project, the feasibility and design of an upgrade of the existing CERN PS proton injection kicker system have been outlined in previous publications already. This paper describes the adjustments of final design choices, testing, and deployment as well as the validation and commissioning of the new 2 GeV injection kicker system. The upgrade pays particular attention to the reduction of pulse reflections unavoidably induced by a magnet in short circuit mode configuration whilst keeping a fast 10⁴ ns rise and fall time. An adapted thyratron triggering system to reduce jitter and enhance thyratron lifetime is outlined. Additionally, improvements to the magnet entry box and the elimination of SF6 gas in the magnet connection box and the associated pulse transmission lines are discussed., Proceedings of the 12th International Particle Accelerator Conference, IPAC2021, Campinas, SP, Brazil

The CERN PS injection kicker has been modified in the framework of the LHC Injector Upgrade (LIU) project to allow injecting proton beams with an energy of 2 GeV. One of the most important items of the system parameter validation is the measurement and analysis of the magnetic field in the magnet aperture. To meet the required measurement precision without compromising the magnet vacuum performance, a dedicated magnetic probe has been designed, constructed and tested. The results are presented in this paper highlighting the mitigations of electrical, mechanical and vacuum complications. The CERN PS injection kicker KFA45 will be upgraded in the framework of the LHC Injector Upgrade (LIU) project to allow for injection of 2 GeV proton beams. This paper summarizes the recent efforts to validate beam based waveform measurements, Pspice simulations and current waveform measurements by direct magnetic field measurements in the aperture of the existing system. The magnetic probe, associated measurement hardware design and measurements results are discussed. The extraction system for the CLIC Damping Rings has very tight specifications. Therefore a full characterisation of the behaviour of the stripline kicker under conditions as close as possible to the expected working conditions will be very valuable. To that end the CLIC stripline has been installed in the ALBA Synchrotron Light Source and has been characterised with beam. Prior to its installation, the effect of the stripline kicker on the machine impedance has been assessed. The installation has required the design of an absorber to screen the stripline from synchrotron radiation and additional BPMs have been installed for a better kick angle determination. The commissioning of the stripline with beam has been performed following closely beam parameters, pressure and temperature. The studies with beam include the determination of the longitudinal and transverse impedance of the kicker*, the field homogeneity when excited with a dc field and the field ripple when pulsed. This contribution reports on the first experience with the stripline kicker for the CLIC DR in the ALBA storage ring and presents the results of the initial beam characterisation., Proceedings of the 9th Int. The ALBA storage ring injection kickers are equipped with RF-fingers to close a 2.5 mm gap between the ceramic tube and the metallic flange. After two distortion incidents that required the replacement of the fingers, their removal was decided. The decision could be supported by the observation that most of the additional impedance is created above the cut-off frequency of the beam pipe. This was later confirmed by a temperature decrease in that zone after the removal. Furthermore it was checked that the thresholds of the longitudinal coupled bunch instabilities of modes trapped around the resulting open gap are above the maximal applied beam current of 400 mA., Proceedings of the 9th Int. A pinger magnet system consisting of two short kickers, one for each transversal plane, has been recently commissioned at the ALBA Synchrotron Light Source. The kickers can excite large betatron oscillations on the electron beam in order to probe the linear and non-linear beam dynamics regime together with the turn-by turn capabilities of the BPMs. The kickers are mounted in a single Ti coated ceramic vacuum chamber, have a length of 0.3 m each and provide a half sine pulse with a pulse length of 1 μs at an amplitude of 1.4 mrad and the pulser unit is based on solid state technology. This report summarises the steps followed from its design until its installation, electric and magnetic characterisation in the laboratory, and the first results with beam., Proceedings of the 6th Int.
