Abstract Background Chronic subdural hematoma (CSH) is a persistent challenge for neurosurgeons, with current relapse, mortality, and morbidity rates not meeting desired outcomes. This study aims to identify the anatomical regions of postoperative residual hemorrhage and discuss their potential implications for surgical practice. Methods This retrospective, observational study reviewed the demographic, clinical, functional, and radiographic outcomes of 74 patients who underwent surgery for CSH between January 1, 2017, and October 1, 2021, at a single-center. Data were collected from the hospital's electronic database, including patient history, physical examination records, and preoperative and postoperative imaging. Results Postoperative day 1 computed tomography scans revealed the most common region for residual hemorrhage was the inferior frontal gyrus in 17 cases (23.0%; valid percentage: 42.5%). Residual hemorrhage was detected in the superior parietal lobe in 9 cases (12.2%; valid percentage: 22.5%). High valid percentages of residual hemorrhage were also noted in the temporal (62.5%) and occipital (66.6%) regions. Conclusions The inferior frontal gyrus, temporal, and occipital regions are the most common sites for postoperative residual hemorrhage in CSH patients. Identifying these regions can guide surgical planning and intraoperative focus, potentially improving patient outcomes. This study provides valuable insights for refining presurgical strategies and targeting specific anatomical areas during surgery.

Aim: The aim of this study was to examine balance, lumbar multifidus muscle thickness and cross-sectional area (CSA), pain, disability and kinesiophobia levels, and to compare these parameters in terms of gender in patients with lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS). Material and Methods: This cross-sectional study included 59 patients, 33 (55.9%) female and 26 (44.1%) male, diagnosed with LSS by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Low back and leg pains, dynamic and static balances, disability and kinesiophobia levels of patients with LSS were evaluated. Lumbar multifidus muscle thickness and total CSA were obtained from MRI images. Obtained data were compared according to gender. Results: Females had significantly more low back pain than males (p=0.043), in patients with LSS. Additionally, females with LSS had worse dynamic and static balances (p=0.005, and p=0.001, respectively) and higher levels of disability (p=0.001), and kinesiophobia (p=0.001). Females with LSS had less lumbar multifidus muscle thickness and CSA than males on both the right and left sides. Also, right multifidus muscle thickness correlated with both dynamic (r=-0.289; p=0.027) and static (r=0.349; p=0.007) balances. Significant correlations were detected between low back and leg pain with dynamic and static balances, disability, and kinesiophobia in patients with LSS. Conclusion: Females with LSS have higher levels of pain, disability, and kinesiophobia than males. Also, LSS affects females' balance functions more and causes further degeneration of the multifidus muscle. Therefore, gender differences should be examined during the clinical follow-up process in LSS.

Objective: This study aims to investigate Auditory Evoked Brainstem Responses (ABR) and Distortion Product Otoacoustic Emission (DPOAE) suppression in migraine patients with and without phonophobia. Methods: Thirty-two migraine patients with normal hearing and 30 healthy individuals were included in the study. Migraine characteristics and phonophobia status of migraine patients were noted. The patients were divided into two groups according to their phonophobia status. All participants underwent ABR, DPOAE and DPOAE suppression. Results: Migraine patients had less DPOAE suppression (1481 and 2222 hz) and shorter ABR wave latencies compared to the control group (p < 0.05). Twelve (37.5%) of the migraine patients did not have phonophobia, and 20 (62.5%) had phonophobia. Phonophobia was not found to affect DPOAE suppression (p > 0.05). However, ABR wave I and V latencies in migraine patients with phonophobia were shorter than in healthy individuals (p < 0.05). Conclusion: There are changes in the auditory evoked brainstem responses and medial olivocochlear efferent system of migraine patients. While phonophobia in migraine patients does not affect the medial olivocochlear efferent system, it may affect auditory evoked brainstem responses. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: This study aims to examine the frequency, types, and clinical significance of incidental findings in cervical magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans and their implications for patient care. Materials and Methods: A total of 331 cervical MRI scans were reviewed retrospectively at Karabük University Research and Teaching Hospital between April 2022 and April 2023. Patients presenting with arm and neck pain or symptoms suggesting abnormalities of the cervical spine were included; those whose images were affected by artifacts were excluded. Incidental findings were recorded and categorized according to their type, location, and potential clinical significance. Results: Our cohort consisted of 221 female patients (69%) and 101 male patients (31%), amounting to a total of 322 patient records. Loss of cervical lordosis (71%) and cervical disc herniation (92%) were the most prevalent findings in the cervical spine. Additional findings included syringomyelia, cerebellar tonsillar herniation, and empty sella. After being diagnosed with thyroid cancer, one patient received appropriate care. The distribution of incidental findings by gender was not statistically significant. This study highlights the frequency and variety of incidental findings in cervical MRI scans, along with their possible clinical significance. The findings are consistent with earlier studies, highlighting the necessity of carefully analyzing these results to detect potentially fatal disorders. Conclusion: It is crucial not to overlook incidental abnormalities in cervical MRI scans for the early identification of clinically relevant disorders. Background/aim: The sacroiliac joint (SIJ) is a frequently overlooked source of lower back pain (LBP). Recently, it has gained recognition as a significant pain generator, prompting increased interest in surgeries targeting this area. Traditionally, open SIJ fusion was used to stabilize pelvic and sacral fractures, and then it was adapted for use in pain management until the development of minimally invasive surgery (MIS). Revolutionizing the field, MIS offers fast and effective pain relief with significantly less risk of postsurgical adverse events, thereby gaining increased attention among surgeons. This review aims to highlight the current advancements in the literature regarding MIS SIJ fusion. Conclusion: The current literature demonstrates the superiority of MIS over open surgery with satisfactory patient outcomes and significantly lower complication rates. With the advancement in navigation and the inclusion of robotic assistance, MIS SIJ fusion is expected to become more ergonomically feasible for surgeons and shorten the learning curve for new trainees worldwide. Background/aim: This study aimed to examine the relationships between severity of stenosis, pain, functional limitation, disability, and quality of life in patients with cervical spondylotic radiculopathy. Materials and methods: Patients (45 female, 19 male) with radiculopathy due to spondylotic changes in the cervical spine were included in this study. Stenosis severity (thecal sac cross-sectional area (CSA)), numbness, neck and arm pain severity, functional limitation (Cervical Radiculopathy Impact Scale), disability, and quality of life (EQ-5D-3L General Quality of Life Scale) were evaluated. The study was registered at ClinicalTrials.gov as NCT06001359. Results: According to CSA values, 28 (43.75%) patients had severe stenosis and 36 (56.25%) had moderate stenosis, and the average CSA was 81.65 ± 10.08 mm². Positive correlations were found between both neck and arm pain and neck disability (r = 0.597, r = 0.359), and negative correlations were found for the General Quality of Life Scale index score and EQ-5D-3L visual analog scale (r = -0.787, r = -0.518). There were significant positive correlations between Cervical Radiculopathy Impact Scale subscales and severity of stenosis, neck and arm pain, numbness, and disability (p < 0.05 for all). A significant negative correlation was observed between Cervical Radiculopathy Impact Scale subscales and quality of life (p < 0.01). Stenosis severity was correlated with pain, neck disability, and quality of life (p < 0.01 for all). Conclusion: There are direct relationships between cervical spondylotic radiculopathy and neck and arm pain, numbness, disability, and quality of life. Objective: To investigate cervical proprioceptive input and vestibular system function in patients with cervicogenic headaches (CGH). In addition, this study aimed to determine whether abnormal proprioceptive or vestibular inputs are effective in the emergence of cervicogenic dizziness. Materials and Methods: Thirty patients with CGH and 25 healthy individuals were included in this study. Participants were asked about their recent falls. A visual analog scale was used to evaluate headache severity. Furthermore, static posturography, dizziness handicap index (DHI), neck disability index, subjective visual vertical, cervical vestibular-evoked myogenic potentials (cVEMP), and cervical joint position error test (CJPET) were applied to the participants. Results: Patients with CGH had more falls in the last year than the control group (p<0.05). DHI, standing with eyes closed on a foam surface, cVEMP, and CJPET scores were worse in patients with CGH than in healthy individuals (p<0.05). The CJPET score of patients with CGH who reported cervicogenic dizziness was worse than that of patients with CGH who did not report dizziness (p<0.05). However, no difference in cVEMP findings was observed between patients with CGH and those without dizziness (p>0.05). Conclusion: It was determined that there were abnormalities in both cervical and vestibular inputs in patients with CGH. However, abnormal cervical proprioceptive inputs, not vestibular responses, were found to play a role in the mechanism of cervicogenic dizziness. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: The postoperative recovery expectations of patients are important for surgical decisions. The Hospital for Special Surgery-Lumbar Spine Surgery Expectations Survey (HSS-LSSES) is a questionnaire evaluating expectations from lumbar surgery. This study aims to adapt the HSS-LSSES to Turkish and to assess its validity and reliability. Materials and Methods: The methodology of this study was based on the COSMIN guideline. The Turkish version of the HSS-LSSES created with the double-back translation procedure and the Turkish version of the Quebec Back Pain Disability Scale (QBPDS) were administered to the participants who were scheduled for surgery with the diagnosis of lumbar radiculopathy, respectively. Cronbach's alpha coefficient and item analysis were used to assess internal consistency. Also, intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) was used to determine test-retest reliability. Results: The study included 180 participants (54.4% male) with a mean age of 50.96±13.42 years at scheduled lumbar spine surgery. HSSLSSES had good internal consistency (Cronbach's α=0.87) and excellent test-retest reliability [ICC (2.1)=0.99; p<0.01]. A strong negative correlation was found between HSS-LSSES-TR and QBPDS-TR (r=-0.71, p<0.01). It was observed that there was no ceiling and floor effect in the scale. Conclusion: HSS-LSSES-TR is a practical, valid, and reliable measurement method that can be used in clinical and research settings to evaluate the expectations of individuals planning for lumbar spine surgery and to examine how well these expectations are met after surgery. There may be many kinds of e-learning material presented to learners. However, learners may not have the consciousness or not want to spend time to examine to select the most appropriate one. Recommendation systems seem to be a feasible solution for an efficient learning process both for learners and the service provider. In this study, we propose a learning material-based e-learning recommendation system that considers the learners' learning material preferences and uses the collaborative filtering method for the recommendation system. To obtain realistic results, actual data gained from Anadolum eCampus, the learning management system of Anadolu University Open Education System, were used. In addition, this study aimed to select the most successful algorithm by applying three Collaborative Filtering (CF) algorithms (kNN, k-means and SVD-based CF) in the experiments to keep the efficiency high. As a result, k-means and SVD-based CF algorithms were more successful than kNN-based CF algorithms. In addition, the SVD-based CF algorithm was the most successful regarding speed performance. Adhesives; are joining elements used for production, assembly and repair. Adhesives of different types and properties are widely used today and it is aimed to improve their mechanical properties by adding nanoparticles into the adhesives. In this study, two different epoxy adhesives, which are used in the bonding of metal surfaces in individual and industrial applications, are incorporated in two different epoxy adhesives in the range of 0.5% to 5% by weight, and changes in the adhesive strength of adhesives on different roughened surfaces are examined. While there was an increase in adhesion strength up to 2% to 3.5% according to surface condition, nanoparticle diameter and adhesive type, negative effects of nanoparticles w ere observed after these ratios and decreases in adhesion strength were determined. The most frequently used psychotherapeutic interventions in OCD treatment are based on exposure and response prevention. However, it is difficult to apply this intervention to a significant part of the patients. In this article, Positive Psychotherapy, an eclectic approach used in the treatment of a patient with treatment-resistant obsessive-compulsive disorder, will be discussed. The patient had OCD for twenty years had attempted suicide a total of six times, including gunshot. The patient had received psychopharmacological interventions, ECT, anterior capsulotomy. She admitted to the clinic because of the there was no regression in the complaints and thought of suicide. During the positive psychotherapy sessions, EMDR technique was applied to the patient who shared that she was raped twice. After completing the steps, there was a decrease in complaints, and then the continuity of rehabilitation checked via behavioral tasks. The patient was discharged with wellbeing.
