The objective of this study was to compare serum endocan levels in patients with restless legs syndrome (RLS) and control subjects in order to elucidate whether RLS is associated with endothelial dysfunction. Methods: A total of 31 drug naïve female patients with RLS and 31 age- and BMI-matched women were included in the study. Patients with pathological or physiological conditions or with a history of medication use that could potentially influence endothelial functions were excluded, as well as those with alcohol or drug abuse history. The two groups were compared with routine blood tests and serum endocan levels. Results: Patients with RLS had lower serum endocan levels than the controls (P=0.037). There was a negative bivariate correlation between RLS severity score and serum endocan levels (r=-0.406, P=0.023). While white blood cell count was significantly higher in RLS group, 25-hydroxy vitamin D3, vitamin B12, transferrin saturation rate, and HDL-cholesterol were significantly lower. Creatininemia and diastolic blood pressure were also marginally insignificantly lower in RLS group. Abstract

Abstract This study focused on detecting the reflections of healing and change in cortex activation in full-face transplantation and lesions patients on EEG activity. Face transplant patients have facial lesions before transplantation and, to identify pre-face transplant patients' brain activity in the absence of pre-transplant recordings, we used data obtained from pre-transplant facial lesion patients. Ten healthy, four facial lesion and three full-face transplant patients participated in this study. EEG data recorded for four different sensory stimuli (brush from the right face, right hand, left face, and left-hand regions) were analyzed using wavelet packet transform method. EEG waves were analyzed for standard bands. Our findings indicate significant change in the 2–4 Hz frequency range which may be a result of ongoing or previous cortical reorganization for face lesion and transplant patients. Alterations of the delta wave seen in patients with facial lesion and face transplant can also be explained by the intense central plasticity. Our findings show that the delta band differences might be used as a marker in the evaluation of post-transplant cortical plasticity in the future.

29. A Historical Analysis of Harmonic Progressions using Chord Embeddings

Abstract

This study focuses on the exploration of the possibilities arising from the application of an NLP word-embedding method (Word2Vec) to a large corpus of musical chord sequences, spanning multiple musical periods. First, we analyse the clustering of the embedded vectors produced by Word2Vec in order to probe its ability to learn common musical patterns. We then implement an LSTM-based neural network which takes these vectors as input with the goal of predicting a chord given its surrounding context in a chord sequence. We use the variability in prediction accuracy to quantify the stylistic differences among various composers in order to detect idiomatic uses of some chords by some composers. The historical breadth of the corpus used allows us to draw some conclusions about broader patterns of changing chord usage across musical periods from Renaissance to Modernity.

Abstract

Acylphosphonates are potent acyl anion precursors that generate acyl anion equivalents under the promotion of cyanide anion via phosphonate-phosphate rearrangement, which react with aldehydes to provide crossbenzoin products. In this way it is possible to synthesize a variety of aromatic benzoins.
