Introduction: The aim of the study was to investigate the effects of radiological distribution on COVID-19 clinic and prognosis and to determine the relationship between laboratory parameters and thorax CT findings. Materials and Methods: Patients with COVID-19 were evaluated retrospectively. Laboratory parameters were obtained from medical records. Ground-glass opacities (GGO) and consolidation were evaluated on thorax CT. The presence of a single lobe lesion was considered as limited while multiple lobe lesions were considered as diffuse involvement for both GGO and consolidation. Result: A total 200 patients with COVID-19 were evaluated. 178 of them (89%) were discharged, 17 patients (8.5%) were transferred to the ICU and five patients died (2.5%). Objective The purpose of this study was to establish the diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (DW-MRI) findings of the caudate nucleus and putamen in patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and to obtain new information on the etiopathogenesis of OCD, which is still unclear. Methods The study comprised 20 patients with OCDs and 20 healthy volunteers. In these cases, DW-MRI and diffusion-weighted echo-planar images (DW-EPI) at b600 and b1000 gradient values were taken and the measurements were made using the apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) maps of each group at b600 and b1000 values from the caudate nucleus and putamen. Results When the DW-MRI examination in patients with OCD was compared with the control group, the mean ADC values in the caudate nucleus and putamen were not found to have statistically significantly changed. In addition, there were no significant differences regarding the right and left caudate nuclei and putamen ADC values at the b600 and b1000 in the patients with OCD or the control group. Conclusion There are still many unknowns about the neurobiology of OCD. When the DW-MRI examination of the patients with OCD was compared with the control group in our study, no significant difference was found between the ADC values of the caudate nucleus and putamen. Further studies are required for this present study on DW-MRI in patients with OCD to be meaningful.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate results from computed tomography pulmonary angiography (CTPA) indicative of right ventricular dysfunction (RVD), and to assess the relationship of these results with cardiac biomarkers and mortality among patients with acute PE. This retrospective study involved 118 patients with acute PE proved by CTPA. CTPA variables were analyzed and compared with cardiac biomarkers and echocardiography (ECHO) findings. Compared with ECHO, the sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, and negative predictive value of CTPA for detection of RVD were 85.7, 91.7, 93.7, and 81.5 %, respectively. Coronary artery disease is one of the most common and important health problems in the world. Early diagnosis of this disease is very important to treat before severe myocardial damage occurred. Myocardial perfusion scintigraphy (MPS) and computed tomography coronary angiography (CTCA) which evaluates regional myocardial perfusion and coronary arteries, respectively, are reliable and non-invasive methods in terms of coronary artery disease. In this study we aimed to compare MPS and CTCA based on conventional coronary angiography (CCA). Totally 60 patients were included in the study. CCA and MPS were performed to 30 patients; CCA and CTCA were performed to the rest of the patients (30 patients). Lesions were classified as mild, moderate and severe in these imaging methods. MPS and CTCA were compared with CCA by using chi-square and Fisher’s exact test. MPS and CTCA’s p values were found for left anterior descending artery (LAD) p: 0, p: 0.271; for circumflex artery (Cx) p: 0.256, p: 0.08 and for right coronary artery (RCA) p: 0.033, p: 0.271, respectively. Furthermore MPS and CTCA’s sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, positive predictive value and negative predictive value were calculated 81% to 87%; 70% to 49%; 73% to 72%; 54% to 72%; 90% to 71%, respectively. CCA results were found more concordant with MPS for LAD and RCA lesions and more concordant with CTCA for Cx lesions. It was also found that positive predictive value of MPS and negative predictive value of CTCA were significantly higher than the others. As a result, MPS and CTCA were suggested as complementary techniques for the diagnosis of coronary artery disease, not as alternatives to each other.

Aim: The aim of the present study was to evaluate the parameters of computed tomography pulmonary angiography (CTPA) indicating right ventricular dysfunction (RVD), and to assess the relationship of these parameters with brain natriuretic peptide (BNP), cardiac troponin I (cTnI), and mortality in patients with acute PE. Materials and Method: Of 204 patients with acute PE, 118 patients who fulfilled the inclusion criteria were retrospectively included and, according to the presence of RVD on echocardiography (ECHO), they were divided into 2 groups as Group 1 that had RVD and Group 2 that did not have RVD. Purpose: We have investigated the role of sonography in the diagnosis of plantar fasciitis. Materials and methods: This study evaluates 39 patients with plantar fasciitis and control group of 22 healthy volunteers. The plantar fascia thickness was measured 5mm distal to the insertion of the calcaneus of plantar aponeurosis. Qualitative parameters such as decreased echogenity, biconvexity, perifascial fluid and calcification of plantar fascia were also noted. Results: Mean plantar fascia thickness was measured 2.9mm in patients with unilateral heel pain, 2.2mm for contralateral normal heel and 2.5mm for control group. There was a statistically significant difference between heel with plantar fasciitis, contralateral normal heel and control groups ( p =0.009 and 0.0001, respectively). Mean body mass index was 28kg/m 2 in patients with heel pain and 25kg/m 2 in control group. Body mass index measurements were significantly different between plantar fasciitis and control groups. We found reduced plantar fascia echogenity in 16 cases (41%), calcaneal spur in 20 cases (51%), biconvex appearance in two cases (5.1%) and perifascial fluid in one case (2.5%). Conclusion: We conclude that in patients with plantar fasciitis, ultrasound may detect relatively small differences in plantar fascia thickness even in clinically unequivocal plantar fasciitis.

UNLABELLED We present a 20 year-old male patient who had prominent positional proptosis of the right eye and admitted to the hospital for tonsillectomy operation. After conventional ophthalmological examination, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and Tc 99m labeled erythrocyte scintigraphy were performed to confirm the diagnosis. Although it is rare to perform scintigraphy for this pathology, the visualization of intraorbital hemangioma was very obvious and we would like to present the visualization of the intraorbital hemangioma both with scintigraphy and MRI. Objectives A retrospective study to investigate the relationship between epicardial adipose tissue thickness (EATT) and presence of coronary artery plaque, coronary artery disease (CAD) and CAD risk factors. Methods Multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) coronary angiography images were reviewed. Left anterior decending artery, right coronary artery and left circumflex artery pericoronary EATT were measured. Demographic, clinical and CAD risk factor data were obtained from medical records. Results Patients with CAD ( n = 49) had significantly larger mean EATT than those without CAD ( n = 101). Pericoronary EATT was significantly correlated with body mass index, total cholesterol level, coronary artery calcium score, hypertension and diabetes mellitus history. Conclusions There is an association between pericoronary EATT and CAD, as well as CAD risk factors. Pericoronary EATT measurement may become a widely used, easy-to-perform method for determining CAD risk.

Portal vein aneurysm (PVA) is a rare vascular anomaly. It can be seen duo to congenital or iatrogenic event. Wide application of ultrasonography (US) and Doppler US provided increase in diagnosis of asymptomatic PVA. Immature mediastinal teratomas are rare malignant neoplasms that can metastasize and recur, are characterized by the presence of various tissues that histologically resemble embryonal structures. Computerized tomography (CT) shows the location and extent of the tumors as well as intrinsic elements including soft tissue, fat, fluid, and calcification. CT is the radiological modality choice for the diagnostic evaluation of these tumors and also combination of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) best defines the characterisation, location and operability of tumor. Absence of the pericardium can vary from partial to complete absence. Patients with complete absence of the pericardium are either asymptomatic or have nonspecific chest pain, and no treatment is needed. Patients with partial absence of the pericardium are at risk for possible symptomatic herniation of the left atrial appendage or left ventricle, leading to fatal myocardial strangulation. Therefore, it is very important to differentiate partial from complete absence of the pericardium. A 7-year-old girl presented with isolated congenital absence of the pericardium, which generally has a good prognosis. It is a relatively asymptomatic anomaly that usually requires no treatment. Some cases involve complications that require operative treatment. Absence of the pericardium can be precisely defined by computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging.

Breast hamartoma is a rare benign tumour that leads to unilateral breast enlargement without a palpable localized mass lesion. Histologically, a hamartoma consists of varying amounts of adipose, gland, fibre and smooth muscle tissue. The characteristic mammographic appearance of hamartoma of breast has distinct mammographic features with circumscription and fat and soft-tissue density surrounded by a thin radiopaque capsule or pseudocapsule. Ultrasonographic findings include a well-defined mass lesion consisting of echogenic and sonolucent areas. We present histopathological and radiological findings of a 42-year-old female patient with breast hamartoma who has no complaint.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the utility of apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values in differentiation between solid adrenal masses. The ADC values of 73 adrenal lesions (54 benign, 19 malignant) in 69 patients were measured at b 100, 600 and 1000 gradients on diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (DW-MRI). No statistically significant difference was found between ADC values of benign and malignant adrenal masses, nonadenomatous benign adrenal masses and malignant adrenal masses, adrenal adenomas and nonadenomatous lesions, adenomas and metastases, adenomas and pheochromocytomas, metastases and pheochromocytomas. Backgriund There has been dearth of investigations concerning morphometric magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) study of regional brain volumes in body dysmorphic disorder (BDD). So we performed a volumetric MRI study in patients with BDD focusing on the in vivo neuroanatomy of thalamus, caudate nucleus, anterior cingulate cortex, and orbito-frontal cortex (OFC) concurrently. Methods The whole brain, total gray and white matter volume, thalamus, caudate nucleus, anterior cingulate cortex, and OFC volumes were blindly measured in 12 unmedicated male BDD patients not having any comorbidity and 12 male control subjects matched for age, and gender. Results The mean OFC and anterior cingulate volumes were significantly smaller than those of healthy controls. The mean white matter volume was larger than that of controls. There was a trend toward increased thalamic volume in patients compared with that of control subjects. Length of illness was inversely correlated with OFC volumes in the patient group both on the left and right sides. Conclusions These findings may be interpreted as further evidence for the inclusion of BDD among a group of obsessive-compulsive spectrum disorders. Future research is necessary to confirm these preliminary findings, to extend them, and to clarify their significance with respect to the etiology and pathophysiology of BDD.

Anthrax is primarily a disease of herbivores, but it also causes cutaneous, respiratory and gastrointestinal infections in humans. Bacillus anthracis is an uncommon cause of meningitis and generally produces a haemorrhagic meningoencephalitis. We present the CT and MR findings of anthrax meningoencephalitis due to the cutaneous form of anthrax in a 12-year-old boy. They showed focal intracerebral haemorrhage with leptomeningeal enhancement.

Preliminary evidence revealed a decrease of regional cerebral blood flow in the thalamus and basal ganglia contralateral to the deficit and suggested that hysterical conversion deficits might entail a functional disorder in striatothalamocortical circuits. However, there is no systematic structural magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) study in the literature in patients with conversion disorder (CD). Therefore, we aimed to perform structural MRI to evaluate the brain regions of interest in first applying patients with CD. Bronchial atresia (BA) is a rare congenital anomaly that is found incidentally in approximately 50% of cases. It predominantly affects young men and generally produces no symptoms. The other 50% of cases have pulmonary symptoms such as fever, cough, or shortness of breath due to recurrent pulmonary infection or overinflation of the involved lung parenchyma. The most common site is the left upper lobe, particularly of the apical-posterior segment. The right lower and middle lobes are affected in only 8% of cases. The radiographic features may be highly suggestive of the diagnosis. The mucus-filled bronchus is seen as a rounded, branching opacity emanating from the hilum and is surrounded by an area of increased hyper-translucency. We report an unusual presentation of BA in a 43-year-old woman with a history of recurrent pulmonary infection and dyspnea. The patient was found to have BA in all the basal segments of the lower lobe of the right lung.

The rare condition in which one side of the body seems to grow faster than the other is called hemihypertrophy. This may be accepted as normal, but there are certain serious conditions that may be associated with this type of growth pattern. Congenital hypertrichosis is believed to be a genetic disorder that is inherited or occurs as a result of spontaneous mutation. The incidence of generalised congenital hypertrichosis is about one in a billion. A seven-month-old female case was brought to the hospital with growth and hairiness complaints, which were more apparent in the right side of the face, the right arm and the right leg. Physical examination showed more apparent hypertrophy and hypertrichosis, which covered the entire right side of the body beginning from the face and including the lower extremities and the genitalia. Hypertrichosis was more evident above the right scapula and on the right leg. The diameter of the right upper extremity and the right lower extremity were measured at 13 mm and 14 mm thicker than the left side, respectively. The infant did not have teeth yet and had totally normal nail growth. Skeletal structure, cardiovascular, respiratory, urogenital, central nervous system and eye examinations were all normal. Results of all laboratory analyses, including genetic examination, and those of the imaging techniques were found to be normal. We hereby present the rare co-presence of hemihypertrophy and hemihypertrichosis, for which we could not identify an etiological cause and which is the third such case in the literature.

Re‐expansion pulmonary edema (REPE) is an uncommon complication following re‐expansion of the lung as treatment of conditions such as hemopneumothorax, large pleural effusion, and after lobectomy, pneumothorax, or even during single‐lung ventilation. The majority of REPE complications are associated with treatment of spontaneous pneumothorax. The etiology of REPE remains speculative, although it is thought to be caused by increased pulmonary capillary permeability. Risk factors, including young age, a large pneumothorax, and long duration of collapse, may help predict the patients that might encounter this complication.

Objective: The objective of the study was to investigate the relationship between age and renal resistive index (RI) and to determine the normal values and ranges of RI in intrarenal arteries in healthy children. Materials and method:Color duplex Doppler sonography of interlobar or arcuate arteries was performed in 115 children without clinical or laboratory pathologic changes of the urinary tract. Of these 115 healthy children, 23 were under 12 months of age (group 1), 24 between 12 and 35 months (group 2), 23 between 36 and 71 months (group 3), and 45 between 72 months and 16 years (group 4). Normative data for RI were established for each age group. Results: When age groups were compared, statistically significant differences were observed between age groups 1 and 2 ( P = 0.007), 1 and 3 (P = 0.00), 1 and 4 (P = 0.00) and 2 and 4 (P = 0.00). No significant differences were observed between age groups 2 and 3 ( P = 0.452), and 3a nd 4( P = 0.078). There was no significant difference between mean RI values of right and left kidney within any age group ( P = 0.315). Conclusion: Results obtained in this study demonstrates that RI is age dependent; it is the highest at birth, from birth declines gradually with increasing age and stabilizes in a certain range (mean RI range regarded as normal for adults) by reaching adult levels. © 2004 Elsevier Ireland Ltd. Neurofibromas occurring in the breast are very rare. A 10-year-old boy with neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) presented with a palpable mass on his left breast. US showed a well-defined and hypoechoic solid mass within the subcutaneous fat tissue in the areolar area. Mass was isointense compared to muscle and hypointense compared to fat tissue on TIW and T2W MR images. Excisional biopsy was applied to the mass. The diagnosis of gynecomastia and neurofibroma was made on the basis of histopathological and immunohistochemical findings.

A 35-year-old woman presented with a solitary neurofibroma in an unusual presacral location without neurofibromatosis manifesting as bilateral chronic sciatica for 2 years. She was initially considered as having a giant right ovarian mass, but was referred with a prediagnosis of solitary giant sacral nerve sheath tumor. The initial differential diagnosis was based on neuroimaging. A right-sided J incision with the extraperitoneal approach provided good exposure and handling of the tumor bed. Almost total excision without neurological deficit was possible. The histological diagnosis was neurofibroma. Benign retroperitoneal neural sheath tumors in patients without von Recklinghausen's disease are quite rare. Intrapelvic tumors are often diagnosed at a later stage. Neuroimaging is very helpful to delineate this unusual site and the extent of tumor development, and to determine the appropriate surgical intervention. A clear understanding of retroperitoneal anatomy is essential for safe removal of such tumors. Complete resection is preferred to prevent local recurrence and malignant transformation. Although root section is inevitable, neurological deficit is unlikely.
