The health of fallen tree collection especially which has not been assessed yet, has to be evaluated to understand its cause. This study aimed to see the health conditions of Cupressus guadalupensis and Pavetta sp. and the causes of fallen trees. The identification of tree health was done visually with a modified Tree Risk Assessment (TRA) form from the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA). Meanwhile, the internal examination used ArborSonic 3D Acoustic Tomograph. The tomogram results showed a hole in the tree trunk. The cause of the fallen trees was predicted due to structural damage with wind factors.

Begonia is an ornamental plant that has a high level of morphological diversity. Begonia propagation is mostly done vegetatively and very rarely to propagate sexually. Therefore, this study was conducted to determine the ability of six types of Begonia seeds to germinate. Six types of Begonia , namely B. x albopicta W. Bull 'Coral Rubra', B. gambutensis Ardi & D.C.Thomas, B. multistaminea Burt-Utley, B. nelumbifolia Schltdl. & Cham., B. ulmifolia Wild. and B. varipeltata D.C.Thomas. were grown in a petri dish and placed in a growth chamber with a temperature of 23.6 ℃, humidity of 74.5%, and a light intensity of 3,431 lux. The results showed that the different types of Begonia showed significant differences in all the parameters tested. B. nelumbifolia required 7.89 ± 0.18 days to germinate and is the fastest time than other types. The highest percentage of seed germination was also obtained by this species, amounting to 63.22%. In addition, B. nelumbifolia showed the best response to the germination rate coefficient, germination rate index, and germination index. This study revealed complete information about the germination of six types of Begonia . In addition, the ability to produced many seeds and the ease of germination made this plant have the potential to be cultivated through seeds. Furthermore, the information can be used as a basis for seed storage as an ex-situ conservation method to maintain genetic diversity.

Begonia is very popular as a foliage plant and some begonia species grow up in pots. Begonia serratipetala and Begonia muricata are Indonesian begonia species that are well suited as indoor potted plants because of their leaf color and shape. In addition, the Bali Botanical Garden's landscape nursery would like to use these begonias for decoration in all buildings. However, it still needs to be studied how long the shelf life of the two begonias is in indoor environments in the highlands without air conditioning (AC). The aim of this study was to investigate the indoor shelf life of B. serratipetala and B. muricata. This research method consists of two steps. The first step was the acclimation phase and the second step was the indoor placement phase. Each begonia was repeated three times. Parameters studied included plant growth (plant height, leaves, leaf width, and leaf length) and environmental factors (sunlight intensity, air temperature, and humidity). The data were analyzed descriptively. Correlation analysis was used to determine the relationship between growth parameters and environmental factors. The result showed that both begonias (B. muricata and B. serratipetala) have similar persistence to indoor begonia species within two weeks, the ideal time for plant replacement

Balinese Hindu community cannot be separated from plant in their life. The information on plant species and how to utilize them are easy to find but limited information about the potency of flowers in the Balinese Hindu community. Flowers have a meaning as sincerity, a symbol of Sang Hyang Widhi , the valour, and also have mythological values. This research aimed to determine the species of flowering plants that are often used for ceremonial and understand the meaning, the cultural conception related to conservation education. The study was carried out in four locations in Tabanan Regency (Baturiti, Penebel, Marga, and Tabanan). Data were collected using an interview with purposive sampling. Data analysis based on the value of Relative Frequency (FR) which is indicated plant most widely used. Â A total of 36 species of flowers are used in traditional Hindu religious ceremonies, of which 29 species are cultivated plants and 7 species are still wild. There are ten of plants which have high FR value, such as: Cananga odorata (FR 0.069), Impatiens balsamina (FR 0.069), Hydrangea macrophylla (FR 0.069), Plumeria acuminata (FR 0.069), Tagetes erecta (FR 0.069), Magnolia champaca (FR 0.069), Gomphrena globosa / bunga ratna (FR 0.047), Gardenia jasminoides / jempiring (FR 0.039), Nymphaea spp./ tunjung (FR 0.030), and Hibiscus rosa-sinensis L./ pucuk (FR 0.030). This research revealed the role of flower in Hindu ceremony and describe the strategic plant conservation due to culture of Balinese Hindu community. Finally, this research expected to documented local knowledge about flowers used as Hindu religious ceremonies, to provide an understanding of the meaning and conceptions of culture related to conservation education.

Buku ini menjadi saksi perjuangan dan semangat sivitas Kebun Raya “Eka Karya” Bali dan beberapa pihak dalam sejarah pembangunan dan pendewasaan kebun raya tercinta, kreasi pertama putra bangsa Indonesia. Enam puluh tahun yang lalu, tepatnya 15 Juli 1959, Kebun Raya “Eka Karya” Bali diresmikan oleh Direktur Lembaga Pusat Penyelidikan Alam saat itu, Prof. Ir. Kusnoto Setyodiwiryo. Temukan ciri khas dan perbedaan Kebun Raya “Eka Karya” Bali dengan kebun raya lainnya, baik di bidang arsitektur bangunan, penataan taman dan koleksi tematiknya, maupun hubungan antara kebun raya dan lingkungan. Buku ini juga merekam segala kondisi yang dihadapi saat pembangunan, baik kekurangan tenaga kerja, terbatasnya anggaran, maupun bencana longsor dan banjir. Semoga kerja keras ini dapat mewujudkan Kebun Raya “Eka Karya” Bali menjadi kebun raya terbaik dan menjadi referensi untuk pembangunan kebun raya nasional. Semoga buku ini menjadi pengingat bagi generasi muda untuk mengenal Kebun Raya “Eka Karya” Bali dan menghargai setiap tetes keringat dari para pendahulunya sehingga timbul rasa cinta dan turut memiliki, kemudian tergerak untuk melanjutkan perjuangan membangun kebun raya. Meliaceae are popularly used to produce terpenoid and limonoid compounds. These compounds have the potential as antioxidants, antimicrobials, insecticides, antipyretics, and anthelmintics. This research aims to determine the antioxidant and antimicrobial activity of Meliaceae leaves extract of Eka Karya Bali Botanic Garden plants collection. The dried leaves of 15 species of Meliaceae were extracted by methanol. In vitro antimicrobial tests were carried out on agar media inoculated by selected microbe. On the other hand, the antioxidant activity was assayed by 1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl hydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging. As a result, Aphanamixis polystachya against Aspergillus niger (35.21 mm) and Cladosporium sp. (46.21), Toona hexandra against Fusarium solani (37.31 mm), Dysoxylum cauliflorum against Candida albicans (38.19 mm), Chisocheton pentandrus against Salmonella typhimurium (39.53 mm), Sandoricum koetjape against Staphylococcus aureus (50.07 mm), and Toona hexandra against Streptococcus nutans (42.25 mm) exhibited the strongest inhibitory effect. Furthermore, the antioxidant screening showed that Cipadessa baccifera, C. pentandrus, and Sandoricum koetjape exhibited strong antioxidant activity, while T. ciliata showed a very strong antioxidant activity with IC50 33.64 μg/mL. This study reveals an initial screening of the potential of various types of Meliaceae as a source of antioxidants and antibacterials. Furthermore, this information can be used as a new alternative for pharmaceutical companies and the industrial sector in the development of new products.

Kebun Raya Eka Karya Bali merupakan salah satu kebun raya yang dikelola oleh Pusat Penelitian Konservasi Tumbuhan dan Kebun Raya, Lembaga Ilmu Pengetahuan Indonesia (PPKTR-LIPI). Terletak di kawasan dataran tinggi Bedugul, kebun raya ini menjanjikan pemandangan alam yang sangat indah disertai dengan udara sejuk khas pegunungan. Koleksi tumbuhan dari dataran tinggi kering dan kawasan timur Indonesia menjadi ciri khas yang tidak terpisahkan dari Kebun Raya Eka Karya Bali. Short Communication: Plant diversity utilization, and land cover composition in the Subak Jatiluwih, Bali, Indonesia. Biodiversitas 22: 1424-1432. Subak is water management or irrigation system for paddy fields in Bali Island and it has been assigned as a UNESCO’s World Heritage Site. At a landscape level, it comprises several components which are forests, terraced paddy landscape, rice fields, villages and temples. Subak in Jatiluwih Village, Tabanan Regency depicts an area characterized by its natural appearance in the form of a vast rice valley with a dike in stratum following its natural contours (frequent terraces). This paper aimed to explore plant diversity in various vegetations around Subak Jatiluwih as well as their usage in the daily living of the local community. We also explore the potential application of drone for classifying the landscape patterns of the Subak.Vegetation sampling to record plant diversity was done using purposive sampling, and drone or Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) was used to map the Subak Jatiluwih landscape. The potential usage of each species was obtained through interview with key respondents, and the level of usage of each species was analyzed using the BIV (Benefit Index Value). Tegalan area shows the highest number plant diversity in Subak Jatiluwih area. Furthermore, there are four species of plants that have the highest BIV namely: Cocos nucifera L., Psidium guajava L., Areca catechu L. and Musa × paradisiaca L.. Various plant uses by the locals include for animal feed, building, ceremony, craft, and food and medicinal purposes. The landscape in Subak Jatiluwih is dominated the vast valley of rice fields that has strata following its natural contours. These conditions provide opportunities to applied the conservation strategy based on cultural and custom values.

Cinnamomum is an aromatic plants that have high economic value. At the Eka Karya Bali Botanic Garden Plant Conservation Center, the Cinnamomum collection has a problem, that is drought and deciduous leaves. The purpose of this study is to determine the land suitability class and climate of the growth of Cinnamomum collections. The method used is by matching the Cinnamomum growth conditions data to the actual data on the condition of the land. The results show that the level of land suitability for Cinnamomum collections is S3 (marginally suitable) with a limiting factor is water availability. Strategies that can be used to reduce the impact of excess water are water management and the application of organic matter.

Living collection such as tree in botanical garden has hazard risk. Tree hazard risk must be evaluated to give safety for visitor and employee. However, standing tree with decay wood inside is often the cause of tree failure. Internal tree defect such as wood decay cannot be seen only from visual investigation but must be done with ArborSonic acoustic tomograph to get accurate result. The objective of this research was to diagnostics wood decay in the stand of Joannesia princeps Vellozo tree using visual investigation and ArborSonic measurement technology. The result shows Joannesia princeps has severe damage cause of wood decay especially in the base of the trunk. Wood decay percentage range from 21-49%. The alleged caused of this damage is stem borer and termites. This information give advantage for Bali Botanical Garden manager to minimize this tree hazard risk by doing activity such as crown pruning, give hazard risk tree sign to limit activity around this tree and do pest management.
