Abstract FADS1 rs174556 polymorphism influences on dietary fats metabolism and type 2 diabetes (T2DM). This study aimed to compare the effect of three oils of sesame, canola and sesame-canola on cardio metabolic factors across genotypes of rs174556 variant in patients with type 2 of diabetes. This study was a randomized triple-blind three-way cross-over clinical trial. 95 Subjects with T2DM replaced their regular dietary oil with sesame oil, canola oil, or sesame-canola oil for three 9-week phases and completed the study. There were three anthropometric measurements, blood sampling and biochemical assessments at the beginning, middle, and at the end of each phase for assessments. Genotyping was conducted using the polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR–RFLP) method. In the crude model, there was an interaction between consumed oils and rs174556 variant on serum concentration of Apolipoprotein A-I (ApoA-1). During intake of sesame oil, lower levels of triglycerides (TG) were observed in individuals with TT genotype compared to C allele carriers’ allele, which remained significant in adjusted models. Compared to C allele carrier’s, the people with TT genotype experienced significant increase and decrease in serum levels of HDL and TG, respectively in adjusted models. Also, the subjects who consumed sesame-canola oil had lower serum concentrations of fasting blood glucose than those who received sesame and canola oils, regardless of used oils and genotypes. FADS1 Gene variant (rs174556) might modify cardiometabolic changes following dietary vegetable oils. Larger longitudinal studies especially randomized clinical trials are needed to clarify these associations.

Abstract COVID-19 is a highly contagious virus that uses Angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) as a receptor to enter human cells. The virus leads to an increase in inflammatory cytokines (i.e. IL-6) and an impaired coagulation system, which can cause serious complications during and after the disease. Physical exercise has been shown to improve COVID-19 complications through various mechanisms, such as modulation of the immune and coagulation systems. Therefore, this study investigated the effects of 8 weeks of training on inflammatory, coagulation, and physical factors in patients with COVID-19 during the recovery phase. Twenty-seven male and female volunteers (age 20–45 years) who recently recovered from COVID-19 were assigned to the control (n = 13) or the training group (n = 14). Blood samples, aerobic capacity and muscle endurance were collected 24 h before the start of the interventions and 24 h after the final training session in week 4 and 48 h after the final training session in week 8. IL-6, ACE2, fibrinogen, and D-dimer were measured using ELISA. The training group showed a significant increase in muscle endurance (p = 0.004) and aerobic capacity (p = 0.009) compared to the control group. Serum levels of IL-6 and fibrinogen decreased in the training group but this decrease was not statistically significant (p > 0.05). Despite a slight increase in the quality of life and sleep in the training group, no statistically significant difference was observed between the training and the control group. It appears that physical training has beneficial effects on the coagulation system, inflammatory factors, and sleep quality and can facilitate the recovery of COVID-19 patients.

Abstract Although previous research has explored the link between plant-based diets and mental health outcomes, there has been limited study on the quality levels of plant foods in this context. This study was conducted on 733 adolescent girls from cities in northeastern Iran. The validated Iranian version of the Insomnia Severity Index, SF-12v2 questionnaire and Persian version of the Beck Depression Inventory used to assess insomnia and poor quality of life (QoL) and depression, respectively. Dietary intakes assessed using a valid and reliable food frequency questionnaire. The association of scores of plant based dietary index (PDI) and poor QoL, depression and insomnia explored by binary logistic regression. The unadjusted model showed subjects in the highest quartile of healthy PDI had lower chances of insomnia than those in the lowest quartile (OR: 0.50; 95% CI 0.27–0.91, P = 0.024). The association persisted across various adjusted models. Subjects in the highest quartile of unhealthy PDI (uPDI) had higher chances of depression than those in the lowest quartile (OR: 1.83; 95% CI 1.09–3.08, P = 0.022). The significance of the association was maintained after adjusting for other confounders. A healthy plant-based dietary index is associated with a lower odds of insomnia. An unhealthy plant-based dietary index was associated to an increased chance of depression. Findings need to be confirmed by future studies.

Background: Several studies assessed the relationship between the cholesterol ester transfer protein (CETP) Taq1B gene polymorphism (rs708272) with risk factors of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). However, their findings were inconsistent. The present study investigated the relationship between CVD risk factors and the Taq1B variant in patients undergoing coronary angiography. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on 476 patients aged 30-76 years old of both sexes from 2020-2021, in Yazd (Iran). The Taq1B polymorphism genotypes were evaluated using polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) on DNA extracted from whole blood. Standard protocols were used to measure cardio-metabolic markers. To determine the association between CVDs risk factors and the rs708272 variant, binary logistic regression was used in crude and adjusted models.Results: Taq1B polymorphism genotype frequencies were 10.7% for B1B1, 72.3% for B1B2, and 17% for B2B2. There was no significant association between abnormal levels of CVDs risk factors and different genotypes of the Taq1B variant, Gensini score (P=0.64), Syntax score (P=0.79), systolic blood pressure (P=0.55), diastolic blood pressure (P=0.58), and waist circumference (P=0.79). There was no significant association between genotypes of the rs708272 variant and any abnormal serum lipid levels. After adjusting for confounders, the results remained non-significant.Conclusion: There was no significant association between CVDs risk factors and CETP rs708272 polymorphism. The relationship between CETP gene variants and CVD occurrences varied across groups, implying that more research in different regions is required. Background: Lung cancer has the highest incidence and mortality rate of all cancers worldwide. In Iran, it is one of the commonly diagnosed malignancies, and its frequency is increasing rapidly. Genetic variants in DNA repair genes are linked to differences in efficiency of repairing DNA damage, which can influence lung cancer susceptibility. EXO1 is a key gene involved in the mismatch repair pathway. The K589E polymorphism in EXO1 may alter the DNA repair activity of the encoded protein and impact lung cancer risk. The aim of this study was to investigate associations between the K589E polymorphism in EXO1 and lung cancer risk in the Iranian population, and evaluate its potential as a prognostic biomarker. Methods: This case-control study was conducted to investigate EXO1 K589E variant with susceptibility to lung malignancy in the Iranian population. One hundred patients with lung cancer as a patient group and 100 healthy individuals from Khansari Hospital located in Markazi province were studied, from January 2020 to May 2022. DNA extraction from blood samples of participants was done using a kit. Genotype determination of both patient and control groups was done using PCR-RFLP technique. Finally, statistical results were analyzed using SPSS software and the logistic regression method. Results: Genotype and allele frequency analysis showed the AA genotype (P=0.004, OR=5.391, 95% CI: 1.690-17.200) and A allele (P=0.010, OR=2.851, 95% CI: 1.291-6.300) were correlated with susceptibility to lung cancer. On the other hand, people carrying the G variant allele had a lower risk of lung cancer. Conclusion: In summary, this study found the AA genotype and A allele of K589E in EXO1 are correlated with risk of lung cancer in Iranians, while the G allele has protective effects. The K589E polymorphism may serve as a prognostic biomarker for lung cancer susceptibility, but more studies with high population size are required.

Abstract Coronary artery disease (CAD) is one of the most important cardiovascular diseases. Lifestyle and genetic factors play important roles in the development of CAD. The aim of the study is to examine the interaction of dietary patterns and genes on the likelihood of abnormal lipid profile and coronary artery stenosis in Iranians undergoing coronary angiography. This cross-sectional study was performed on 440 patients who underwent coronary angiography. The factor analysis method was used to extract dietary patterns. Commercial kits have been used to assess biochemical parameters. The detection of the rs28362491 genotype was carried out by the method of restriction fragment length polymorphism. Traditional (TDP) and western dietary pattern (WDP) were extracted. We observed an interaction of adherence to TDP and rs28362491 on the odds of having a high Gensini score. These interactions indicated that higher adherence to TDP was associated with higher odds of having a high Gensini score for patients with DD genotype than for those with II genotype. (OR 2.33, 95%CI 1.00–5.44; P = 0.05). These interactions remained statistically significant even after confounder variables. We observed an interaction between higher adherence to TDP and rs28362491 variants on the odds of high low-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels (P = 0.04) in the unadjusted model. We found a significant interaction of this polymorphism and higher adherence to WDP on the odds of having a high Gensini score in the unadjusted model (P = 0.04). This study provides a basis for future research on NF-KB1 gene and diet interaction. More large-scale longitudinal studies are needed to validate these findings.

Abstract Background In Iran, lung cancer is the third most common type of cancer and its prevalence is increasing rapidly. Identification informative genetic polymorphisms in cancer causing genes including epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) as key gene in control of cellular proliferation via intrinsic tyrosine/kinase activity, exonuclease 1 (EXO1) as one of the upregulated gene in different human malignancies and leptin (LEP) participate in carcinogenesis in lung cancer appears to be used as potential genetic markers for predicting lung cancer risk. There is no study about investigate association of the EGFR (− 216G/T), Exo1 (K589E) and LEP (− 2548G/A) gene polymorphisms with risk of lung cancer in Iranian population. The aim of this study was investigating the association of EGFR (− 216G/T), Exo1 (K589E) and LEP (− 2548G/A) gene polymorphisms with risk of lung cancer as a potentially diagnostic biomarker in Iranian population. Methods In this case–control study, A total of 100 patients with lung cancer and 100 age and gender-matched healthy controls were recruited into this study and the association between EGFR (− 216G/T), Exo1 (K589E) and LEP (− 2548G/A) gene polymorphisms with the risk of lung cancer was investigated by using PCR–RFLP technique and bioinformatics approach. Results The rs712829 of EGFR gene show that a significant statistical difference between G allele and risk of lung cancer (P = 0.001, OR = 2.976, CI = 95%, 1.557–5.691), in contrast, the T allele and TT genotype show a protective role against the risk of lung cancer. Result of in silico analysis indicated that the rs712829 alter splicing and promoter regulation of EGFR gene and associated with the risk of lung cancer. PCR–RFLP result for rs1047840 of Exo1 gene showed that the AA genotype and A allele of this polymorphism associated with risk of lung cancer, whereas the GG genotype show a protective effect against the risk of lung cancer (P = 0.004, OR = 5.391, CI = 95%, 1.690–17.200). On the other hand, in silico analysis showed that the existence of rs1047840 in Exo1 gene influence lung cancer susceptibility. For rs7799039 of LEP gene, PCR–RFLP analysis showed that, there is no significant association between this polymorphism and the risk of lung cancer. Conclusion The rs712829 of EGFR gene and rs1047840 of Exo1 are associated with risk of lung cancer among Iranian population and can be used as a potentially candidate biomarker for early detection and primary prevention.

Introduction: Genetic and environmental factors are involved in the pathogenesis of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). The aim of the study was to investigate between the genotype of the NFKB1 gene and the cardiometabolic risk factor in patients undergoing coronary angiography. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on 462 adults (male and women) aged between 35 and 75 years who referred to Afshar Hospital for coronary angiography in 2021- 2022. The polymerase chain reaction restriction fragment length polymorphism method was used to detect the genotype of rs28362491. Biochemical parameters were measured using commercial kits. Gensini and Syntax scores were calculated using the angiography result to assess the extent of coronary artery stenosis. We used multivariate logistic regression analysis to examine the relationship between genotype variants and cardiometabolic risk factors. Results: There was no association between variant genotypes and abnormally levels of serum alanine aminotransferase (ALT) (P value=0.51), aspartate aminotransferase (AST) (P value=0.99), triglyceride (TG) (P value=0.48), total cholesterol (P value=0.79), low density lipoprotein-cholestero (LDL-C) (P value=0.31), high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-C) (P value=0.53), fast blood sugar (FBS) (P value=0.39), systolic blood pressure (P value=0.14), diastolic blood pressure (P value=0.64), Gensini score (P value=0.48) and syntax score (P value=0.74) in the crude model even after adjustment for confounding factors. Conclusion: We found no association between the ATTG polymorphism and cardiometabolic risk factors in patients who had coronary angiography. Further investigations are needed to assess the association between variants of 28362491 and cardiometabolic markers.

IntroductionCarbohydrate-restricted diets are one of the most effective dietary interventions for weight loss. However, the optimum carbohydrate intake for implementing the most effective weight-loss interventions is still being discussed. We aimed to determine the optimum carbohydrate intake for short- and long-term weight loss in adults with overweight and obesity.MethodsWe searched PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and CENTRAL from inception to May 2021 for randomized controlled trials examining the effect of a carbohydrate-restricted diet (≤45% of energy intake) as compared to a control diet (carbohydrate intake >45% of energy intake) on body weight in adults with overweight/obesity. A random-effects dose–response meta-analysis was conducted to calculate the mean difference for each 10% decrease in carbohydrate intake at the 6-month follow-up (1 to 6 months), 12-month follow-up (6 to 12 months), and follow-up longer than 12 months. The shape of the dose-dependent effects was also evaluated. The certainty of the evidence was rated using the GRADE approach. The minimal clinically important difference (MCID) threshold was defined as 5% weight loss (equal to 4.39 kg).ResultsA total of 110 trials were selected for the present meta-analysis. In the linear dose–response meta-analysis, each 10% decrease in carbohydrate intake reduced body weight by 0.64 kg (95% CI: −0.79 to −0.49; n = 101 trials with 4,135 participants, high-certainty evidence) at the 6-month follow-up and by 1.15 kg (95% CI: −1.61 to −0.69; 42 trials with 2,657 participants, moderate-certainty evidence) at the 12-month follow-up. Non-linear dose–response meta-analyses indicated a monotonic reduction in body weight with the decrease in carbohydrate intake, with the greatest reduction at 5% at the 6-month follow-up (mean difference 5%: −3.96 kg, 95% CI: −4.92 to −3.00) and 10% at the 12-month follow-up (mean difference 10%: −6.26 kg, 95% CI: −10.42 to −2.10). At follow-up longer than 12 months, dose–response analyses suggested a non-linear effect, wherein carbohydrate intakes higher than 40% and lower than 30% were not effective for weight loss.DiscussionCarbohydrate restriction is an effective dietary strategy for important weight loss in adults with overweight and obesity. At 6-month and 12-month follow-ups, body weight decreased proportionally, more than the MCID threshold, along with the decrease in carbohydrate intake. Nowadays the importance of vitamins is clear for everyone. However, many patients are suffering from insufficient intake of vitamins. Incomplete intake of different vitamins from food sources due to their destruction during food processing or decrease in their bioavailability when mixing with other food materials, are factors resulting in vitamin deficiency in the body. Therefore, various lipid based nanocarriers such as nanoliposomes were developed to increase the bioavailability of bioactive compounds. Since the function of nanoliposomes containing vitamins on the body has a direct relationship with the quality of produced nanoliposomes, this review study was planned to investigate the several aspects of liposomal characteristics such as size, polydispersity index, zeta potential, and encapsulation efficiency on the quality of synthesized vitamin-loaded nanoliposomes.

Background: Quercetin is one of the main flavonoids, overall distributed in plants. The antioxidant capacity of quercetin is several times vitamin E and glutathione. This systematic review and meta‐analysis of randomized controlled trials were performed to determine the effect of quercetin on oxidative stress (OS) markers. Methods: A literature search was conducted in PubMed, ISI Web of Science, Scopus, and Google Scholar to February of 2021. Meta-analysis was conducted on 8 eligible RCTs containing a total of 668 participants. The weighted mean difference (WMD) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) was calculated for a pool effect size of Malondialdehyde (MDA), Total Antioxidant Capacity (TAC), and Ferric Reducing Ability of Plasma (FRAP). Subgroup analyses were performed based on intervention duration and dosage. The heterogeneity of studies was examined by Cochran's Q test and I-squared (I2) statistic. Results: Effect sizes from 668 participants based on the random effect model showed that quercetin supplementation had no significant effect on TAC and MDA compared to the control group. The analysis illustrated that quercetin supplementation significantly increased FRAP in adults (WMD = -0.159 mmol/l, 95% confidence interval (CI):-0.178, -0.141, P ≤ 0.001). Conclusions: The finding of the current study showed that quercetin supplementation had no significant effect on TAC levels, although it significantly increased FRAP levels in adults. Also, MDA level did not markedly change. It has needed to conduct clinical trials with more quality and bigger sample sizes to verify the positive impact of quercetin on stress oxidative marker.

Background: This systematic review and meta‐analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) was conducted to determine the effect of dark chocolate on C-Reactive Protein (CRP) levels as one of the inflammatory factors. Methods: A literature search was conducted in PubMed, ISI Web of Science, Scopus, and Google Scholar up to April of 2020. The registration number of study in PROSPERO was CRD4202020072, which was conducted over 5 eligible RCTs containing a total of 330 participants. The weighted mean difference (WMD) with 95% confidence intervals was calculated for the pool effect size of CRP. The heterogeneity of studies was examined by Cochran's Q test and I-squared (I2) statistic. Results: Effect sizes from 330 participants based on random effect model showed no effect between consumption of dark chocolate on CRP levels compared to the control group (WMD: 0.01 mg/dl; 95% CI: −0.19, 0.22 mg/dl; P = 0.89; Cochran's Q test, Q statistic = 21.97; P < 0.001; I2 = 81.80%). The results of subgroup analysis based on intervention duration and dosage showed no significant effect on CRP levels (WMD = 0.05 mg/dl, 95% CI: −0.30, 0.42 mg/dl; P = 0.76). Meta-regression for the intervention duration (slope: −0.0033, 95% CI: −0.0089, 0.0022; P = 0.24) and dosage (slope: 0.00006, 95% CI: −0.0036, 0.0037; P = 0.97) indicated no significant relationship with the mean difference of CRP. Conclusion: The results of the present meta-analysis showed that consuming dark chocolate had no significant effect on the CRP level. More clinical trials are required with higher quality and bigger sample sizes to verify the positive impact of dark chocolate on the reduction CRP level.

Abstract Background There is increasing evidence that the dietary intake of phytochemicals is inversely associated with severity of depression and positively associated with quality of life (QoL). The present study investigated the relationship between dietary phytochemical index (DPI) with depression and QoL scores in Iranian adolescent girls. Methods A total of 733 adolescent girls from Mashhad and Sabzevar cities in northeastern Iran were entered into this cross-sectional study. Assessment of depression and QoL was performed utilizing the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) and SF-12v2 questionnaire, respectively. Assessment of dietary intake was undertaken by a qualified dietitian, using a validated food-frequency questionnaire (FFQ) containing 168 food items. To explore the association between DPI with QoL and depression, logistic regression was used in crude and adjusted models. Results The participants in the fourth quartile of DPI compared with the first quartile had a 50% lower odds of depression (OR: 0.50; 95% CI: 0.30-0.84, P = 0.009) This relation remained significant in all adjusted models. The adolescents in highest quartile of DPI compared with the first quartile had 38% lower odds of poor QoL (OR: 0.62; 95% CI: 0.41-0.94, P = 0.02). This association remained significant in adjusted models I and II, but not after adjusting for all confounding variables (OR: 0.67; 95% CI: 0.43-1.02, P = 0.06) (Model III). Conclusions DPI was inversely associated with risk of depression. The association between DPI score and QoL remained unclear. Further prospective and interventional studies are required.

Background and Objective: Sexually infections transmitted by bacteria are one of thetherapeutic and social problemsworldwide. The Real-time PCR assay is one of the most sensitive diagnostic and screening methods for these infections. The purpose of this study wassimultaneous detection of Chlamydia trachomatis and Mycoplasma genitaliumusing the TaqMan duplex real-time polymerase chain reaction. Materials and Methods: In the present study, we used extracted DNA from women with vaginal infections available in the bank ofthe molecular and medicalresearch center, Arak University of Medical Sciences, Arak, Iran. The duplex real-time PCR was evaluated to detectChlamydia trachomatis and Mycoplasmagenitalium in 110 vaginal andendocervical samples. To validate the diagnostic performance of the designedmethod, the tests were compared with a commercial diagnostic kit. Results: The size of the ampliconsOmpA, 135 bp and MgPa, 145bp,indicated the accuracy of the primers designing procedures. The analysis of a panel of human STI revealed no cross-reactivity in the method. The diagnostic sensitivity and specificity of developedTaqMan duplex real-time PCR were 97% and 75%, respectively,compared to a commercial diagnostic kit. Conclusion: The results indicated that the used TaqMan duplex real-time PCR technique is specific and cost-effective and can be an excellent alternative to commercial kits for simultaneously detecting C. trachomatis and M. genitalium. Although the disadvantage of this method is its high cost, this disadvantage has significantly been resolved by the multiplex method.

Abstract Background Despite the protective effects of foods being rich in phytochemicals against chronic diseases, this issue is still poorly understood. The aim of this study was to investigate the association between Dietary Phytochemical Index (DPI) and metabolic syndrome (MetS) and its components. Methods This cross-sectional study focused on adults aged between 20 and 70years. The dietary intake was assessed using a validated and reliable food frequency questionnaire. DPI was calculated based on dietary energy, derived from phytochemical-rich food sources (kcal) per total daily energy intake (kcal). The odds ratio of MetS and its components were assessed across DPI quartiles by logistic regression models. Results After adjustment for all potential confounders, the risk of MetS (OR: 0.63, 95% CI = 0.41–0.96) and elevated blood pressure (OR: 0.62, 95% CI = 0.40–0.96) in the second category of DPI decreased significantly as compared to that in the first category. Subjects in the second and fourth quartiles of DPI with adjusting for age, sex and total energy intake revealed 30 and 25% lower risk of abdominal obesity, respectively. After full adjustment for confounders, the analysis stratified by sex showed women in the highest quartile of DPI had 59% lower risk of MetS (OR: 0.41, 95% CI = 0.22–0.76) as compared to those in the lowest quartile of DPI. Conclusions Greater adherence to phytochemical-rich diet could reduce odds of MetS and some components, especially in women. Further studies with intervention approaches are recommended.

Background and Aim: Staphylococcus aureus is common pathogens of nosocomial infections. Nasal swabs in hospital staff is main sources of hospital infections are considered. The aim of this study was to determine the frequency of nasopharyngeal carriers of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and microbial contamination of health care workerschr('39') cell phones in Emergency department of Vali-e-Asr Hospital in Arak City. Methods & Materials: In this descriptive study, nose swabs and cell phone levels were taken from 70 health care workers in the emergency ward of Vali-e-Asr Hospital. The Staphylococcus aureus clinical isolates were identified using standard microbiological methods (catalase, coagulase, mannitol fermentation and DNase). The susceptibility to oxacillin and cefoxitin was detected by the disk diffusion and the mecA genes in this clinically isolated strain of staphylococci was investigated by Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR). Ethical Considerations: This study was approved by the Research Ethics committee of Arak University of Medical Sciences. (Code : IR.ARAKMU.REC.1396.282). Results: According the results, Staphylococcus aureus was isolated in 16 cases, which 5 cases were methicillin-sensitive S. aureus (MSSA), and 11 cases were Methicillin resistant S. aureus (MRSA). Also, 3 cell phones were infected with Staphylococcus aureus, which 1 case was MRSA and 2 cases were MSSA. Conclusion: The results of this study showed that frequency of MSSA strains is significant in emergency personnel of the hospital. Thus, regarding to the risk of epidemics due to nosocomial infections, periodic testing for the identification and treatment of carriers among employees for controlling and preventing hospital infections seems necessary.

Background: Recessive disruptive mutations in nucleotide excision repair genes are responsible for a wide range of cutaneous photosensitivity and, in some cases, are associated with multi-system involvement. The heterogeneous nature of these conditions makes next-generation sequencing the method of choice to detect disease-causing variants. Materials and Methods: A patient from a large multiplex inbred Iranian kindred with several individuals suffering from skin sun-sensitive manifestations underwent complete clinical and molecular evaluations. Whole exome sequencing (WES) was performed on the genomic sample of the proband, followed by bioinformatics analysis. Subsequently, co-segregation of the candidate variant with the condition was performed by Sanger sequencing. Results: A rare homozygous nonsense variant, c.1040G>A (p. Trp347*), was identified in the UVSSA gene, resulting in UV-sensitive syndrome (UVSS) complementation group A. The global minor allele frequency of the variant is < 0.001 in population databases. Tryptophan 347 residue is conserved among mammalians and vertebrates, and the null variant is believed to lead to a truncated protein with cellular mislocalization. Conclusions: Here, we report the first genetic diagnosis of UVSS-A in Iran via the successful application of Next-generation sequencing, which expands our understanding of the molecular pathogenesis of this condition.

Cancer is a multifactorial Disorder caused by variations in multiple genes coupled with environmental risk factors. The genes involved in the carcinogenesis can be classified into several groups, including proto-oncogenes, tumor suppressor genes, genes involved in genome stability and cell migration. The accumulations of genetic changes lead to tumor mass and formation of new blood vessels to grow. The tumor is not a collection of single cells and has bilateral interactions with its environments. The tumor microenvironment (TME) has a similar function to stem cells niches that affect tumor progression and metastasis. The study of this environment is effective in diagnosis and treatment of cancer and provides valuable and new information for controlling tumor malignancy and risk assessment (1). This paper focuses on TME components and the molecular targets for cancer treatment. Investigating of TME by cellular and molecular profiles indicated that there are different types of cells in this environment that promote neoplastic changes and metastasis and protect the tumor from the immune system and lead to resistance to treatment (2). Among the different types of cells present in the TME, including parenchymal tumor, fibroblasts, epithelial and inflammatory cells, extracellular matrix and signaling molecules, blood and lymph vessels, the highest number of cells are fibroblasts. In the early stages of carcinogenesis, normal fibroblasts prevent tumor growth. The genetic changes of these cells, with the help of inflammatory agents, release the growth factors that directly inhibit tumor-stimulating cells or indirectly inhibit apoptosis by stimulating growth and inducing angiogenesis. Therefore, a complex system of interactions is created by the involvement of a variety of cellular factors and molecular signals (3,4). Within the TME infrastructure, there are interactions of tumor cells with extracellular matrix (ECM), tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs), cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs), mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and endothelial cells (EC). These communications have been established with the help of chemokines, growth factors, matrix metalloprotezes (MMPs) and ECM proteins, that lead to migration, invasion to distant organs and metastasis (5). TME restores tissue and induces metabolic changes in the tumor by making changes in the stromal and immune cells. This remodeling in a TME is similar to around of scar surrounded by different cells (6). Based on tissue type’s cancers, more than 40% of the CAFs can be derived from bone marrow progenitors that are recruited to the growing TME. Although CAFs may also be derived of epithelial cancer cells or stained fibroblasts that differentiate into myofibroblasts. In epithelial tumors, fibroblasts, mainly through the secretion of growth factors and chemokines, led to an altered ECM, and increase signals of proliferation and metastasis, and ultimately lead to tumor progression (7). The ECM also accumulated a scaffold of inflammatory and immune cells, lymph and nerve arteries. In general, in the metastatic phenomenon, the invasive tumors should be able to move, to break up the extracellular matrix of the tissue, to form new blood vessels, to survive in the blood and to stabilize in a new tissue environment. In studies that have been conducted to understand how these capabilities are achieved in cancer cells, TME has been identified as critical to the development of this phenomenon. TME stabilizes invasion of tumor to distant organs via signals to stromal or non-malignant cells and activation of transcription of genes (8,9). Also, angiogenesis precursor cells that are recruited to TME under hypoxic conditions are associated with metastasis. Some studies have shown that miRNA molecules are the main regulator of this activity, leading to changes in fibroblasts in the TME. MiR-21, miR-31, miR-214 and miR-155 play an important role in differentiation of normal fibroblasts to CAF (10). Although miRNAs in TME have not yet been fully identified, some studies indicated that miRNAs produced by TME cells and specially CAFs affect on tumor growth (11). Musumeci and colleagues showed the role of miRNAs in TME in prostate cancer. Their study found that expression of miR-15a and miR-16 down-regulated in fibroblasts of TME in prostate cancer. MiRNAs target oncogenes such as Bcl-2 and WNT pathway components (12). Several strategies have been proposed to remodel TME components in cancer treatment (2). Blocking the recruitment and activation of stromal cells in TME is one of these molecular approaches. Based on this strategy, Avastin has been designed to treat clone and glioblastoma cancer. Some drugs also block the interaction between the TME cells with the tumor and angiogenesis, ECM and inflammatory compounds in TME. Siltuximab is a human anti-IL-6 antibody that inhibits the pathway of IL-6 / STAT3 in cancer cells and its therapeutic effects have been reported in xenografet models. The effect of this drug in the Phase II clinical trials in platinuim-resistant ovarian cancer is under survey. More accurate identification of gene networks and cell pathways will help us improve our understanding of the pathogenesis of cancer and the advancement of therapeutic approaches. Therefore, in addition to controlling the signaling pathway inside the tumor, it is also necessary to identify the TME. Although, despite the recognition of the importance of TME in carcinogenesis, due to the multiplicity of involved cells, the origin of molecular mutations in its components is still not fully detected and requires extensive research in this area.

Background and Aim: Ziehl Nelson staining, fluorescent and also culture are the standard methods for the diagnosis of tuberculosis. In this study, the performance of conventional cultivation methods was compared with Flash PCR. Materials and Methods: A total of 56 sputum samples from patients with suspected tuberculosis in Tuberculosis Center of Arak city were collected and Ziehl–Neelsen and culture in Löwenstein–Jensen medium were accomplished. Moreover, DNA from all of the 56 sputum samples was extracted by Chelex100 method. Molecular evaluation was accomplished by Flash PCR kit containing probes and primers for gene amplification IS6110. Positive and negative controls together with samples were used in a MTC410 apparatus for amplification. FD-12 apparatus was used to evaluate the results. In addition, electrophoresis on agarose was used for confirmation of the results. Findings: From 56 sputum samples of suspected TB patients, 20 samples were positive and 36 samples were negative on microscopic evaluation and culture methods. FLASH-PCR molecular analysis showed that all of 20 positive samples were positive in molecular methods, too. On the other hand, three of sputum samples that were negative by culture and staining were positive in FLASH-PCR method. One of these 3 patients, received Isoniazid, pyrazinamide and ethambutol antibiotic by responsible medicine. All results were confirmed using conventional electrophoresis. Conclusion: In some negative samples, possibly because of the small number of bacteria in sample or a defect in the sampling, the Flash PCR may due good advantages. Therefore, due to the low cost, this method is recommended for routine use.

Abstract Background: Breast cancer is the the most common cancer in women. It has been proven the association of cause of this disease with changes in several genes. One of the pathways associated with breast cancer is the folate reuptake pathway. The key enzyme of this pathway is coded by the TYMS gene. MicroRNAs control the expression of genes by binding to their regulatory regions. In this study, we evaluated changes in the regulatory region of TYMS gene with demographic characteristics (including the grade of cancer and metastasis) in breast cancer patients. Materials and Methods: In this study, the regulatory region of TYMS gene was investigated using related bioinformatics software. After collecting cancerous samples and DNA extraction from blood samples of normal and patients, change in the miRNA binding region by digestion with NlaIII enzyme was assayed. Results: Bioinformatics studies showed that the restriction site of some of the endonuclease enzymes in the 3'-UTR of the TYMS gene is related to the binding region of miRNAs, including Hsa-miR-433-3p. The results indicated the correctness of the genomic purification process, the PCR and enzymatic digestion reaction. Background:during recent years, the incidence and spread of drug resistance in Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the bacterium causing tuberculosis, has set this disease in World Health Organizationpriorities alignment of diseases like AIDS and hepatitis. Study of close examination of resistant and susceptible clinical strains genotypes is necessary to overcome drug resistance. Among the numerous repair systems, only there are limited number of encoding genes of DNA repair enzymes in Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Commonly these genes have been conserved and any changes among them likely increasethe mutation occurance due to the impossibility of correctionof spontaneous mutations insensitive strains of this bacteria.mut genes encodeDNA repairable enzymes.This study investigated the mutations in these genes and the effect of these mutations on tuberculosis drug resistance. Materials&Methods: In this study,of 29 available specimens,we were selected 8 susceptible strains and 21 resistantstrains andafter ordering appropriate primers and performing the proliferation reaction two types of amplicons produced which includingfragments of genes mut T2 and mut T4 and they were sent inorder to sequencing. Results:The results of chain reactionprimer represents an appropriate choice of primerswhich were investigated. Sequencing results showed that overall 73% of resistant strains that had been selected for study of mutT4gene, have no mutations in codons 48of mutT4 gene, and 70% of resistant strains have no GGA >>> CGA mutation at codon 58 of mutT2 gene. Conclusion: One of the strategies to overcome tuberculosis drug resistance is a close examination of genotypes of resistant and susceptible clinical strains. Results of this study was performedby examining changes in mut T2 and mut T4 gene sequence. The mutation in mut T2 always associated with mutation in mut T4, in this way, the first mutation may occurs in mut T4and after that, the second mutationmay occurs in mut T2. Importance of this is determined by study of encoded proteins by these two genes and position of mut t4thanmut T2 in the MUT HLS spatial structure of protein complex. Results of comparison of drug resistance and occurrence of mutations in hot-spots of mut T2 and mut T4 genes illustrated that these genes are conserved in resistant strains. However, there is no significant relation in susceptible strains.

Background: Streptomycin is one of the most efficient treatments of tuberculosis that increasingly reported its drug resistance. The most common mutations associated with drug resistance to streptomycin of Mycobacterium Tuberculosis, causes tuberculosis, and occurs at codons 43 and 88 of rpsL gene. The purpose of this study is study of alterations in rpsL gene with two restriction enzymes BsajI and MbooII related to drug resistant to streptomycin in clinical isolates of mycobacterium tuberculosis. Materials and Methods: This study was performed using 71 clinical isolates of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Molecular PCR-RFLP methods were designed with two enzymes BsajI and MbooII for mutation analysis at codon 43 of rpsL, in resistant and susceptible strains, respectively. Finally, the results were compared with sequencing and phenotype strains. Results: 25 subjects were studied with enzyme BsajI. This enzyme is capable of detection 64 percent of resistant and all sensitive strains. 46 strains were examined by enzyme MboII. This enzyme detected almost 91 percent of sensitive strains. MboII is selected for detection of sensitive strains (unlike BsajI). Results of sequencing rpsL genes in investigated strains, showed fully consistent with the results of PCR-RFLP and proved mutation in codon of 43 of thin genes in studied strains. Conclusion: The results showed that the PCR-RFLP with designed restriction enzymes can be used as a rapid, simple assay, and has high sensitivity for differentiation of Mycobacterium tuberculosis strains that are resistance to Streptomycin.

شهروندی به عنوان رویکردی است که به انواع حقوق انسانی در جامعه اشاره می‌کند و تعامل بین فرد و جامعه را جهت می‌دهد. تلاش برای توسعه و حفظ حقوق شهروندی اهمیت بنیادین خود را همچنان حفظ کرده است. این حقوق فراهم آورنده عرصه‌هایی است که می‌تواند، بحث و گفتگو درباره سبک زندگی را فراهم آورد. هدف از این مقاله تبیین جامعه‌شناختی سبک زندگی و رابطه آن با گرایش به حقوق شهروندی است. مبانی نظری متأثر از آراء و نظریات گیدنز است. با توجه به روش پیمایش و مطالعه میدانی در بین دانشجویان دانشگاه واحد تحلیل فرد در نظر گرفته شده است. شیوه نمونه‌گیری طبقاتی سیستماتیک و حجم نمونه مورد مطالعه بر اساس فرمول کوکران 373 در نظر گرفته شده است. شاخص سبک زندگی با ابعاد (مدیریت بدن، اوقات فراغت، سلیقه هنری و سلیقه هنری و مصرفی) و گرایش به حقوق شهروندی در ابعاد گرایش به (حقوق مدنی، سیاسی، اجتماعی) مورد مطالعه قرار گرفته است. آلفای کرونباخ به دست آمده از یافته‌های اطلاعات 73% بوده است؛ جمع‌آوری اطلاعات از طریق ابزار پرسشنامه محقق ساخته انجام شده و با استفاده از نرم‌افزار20 Spss و بهره‌مندی از آماره‌های استنباطی (رگرسیون و پیرسون) و توصیفی در نهایت، نتیجه گرفته شد که به طورکلی شاخص سبک زندگی بر گرایش به حقوق شهروندی تأثیرگذار است. همچنین سبک زندگی بر گرایش به حقوق مدنی، حقوق اجتماعی و حقوق سیاسی تأثیر دارد. نحوه اوقات فراغت و سلیه هنری و مصرفی نیز بر گرایش به حقوق شهروندی تأثیر دارد ولی نحوه مدیریت بدن با گرایش به حقوق شهروندی رابطه‌ای ندارد. بنابراین پیشنهادهایی می‌توان برای این تأثیرگذاری مطرح کرد.

This study was performed to evaluate the leaching rate of copper nanoparticles in combined impregnation-densification treated poplar and spruce wood after accelerated aging. Specimens were prepared by impregnation with 200 and 400 ppm nano-copper suspensions, followed by pre-steam treatment and densification. Impregnation was done in a sealed vessel with 4 bar pressure in 20 minutes. Half of the specimens were oven-dried and steamed at 150°C for 2 hours and immediately densified under the hot press at 170°C for 3 hours to reach to the 33% compression rate. All specimens were exposed to the 6 steps accelerated aging procedure according to ASTM D-1037. Leaching test was performed according to EN84 standard (1997) for a period of 14 days. The leached residues were investigated in the Mineral Exploration and Geological Center by atomic absorption method. Results showed that nano-copper particles in impregnated specimens had no leaching; but the pre-steaming and densification treatments led to leaching the nano-copper particles from the treated wood.

Background: Isoniazid is from the first-line drugs for treatment of tuberculosis. Resistance to Isoniazid is increasingly reported. In the study, molecular methods for rapid detection of isoniazid resistance in clinical isolates of Mycobacterium tuberculosis were compared. Materials and Methods : Sixty clinical isolates of Mycobacterium tuberculosis were selected and their resistance and susceptibility were determined by proportional method. Molecular methods of PCR-RFLP and Allele Specific-PCR (AS-PCR) for determination of probably mutation in codon 315 of katG gene that related to Isoniazid resistance were used and compared by sequencing results as gold standard. In AS-PCR specific primers by proper PCR conditions were used. RFLP analysis of the PCR products was performed using the enzyme HpaII. Results: From 60 studied strains, 27 isolates were resistant and 33 strains were susceptible to isoniazid. Sequencing results showed that AS-PCR and PCR-RFLP well able to detect mutations in codon 315 of the strains by 81.48% sensitivity and 100% specificity respectively. None of the susceptible strains harbored mutation in katG315. Conclusion: Our results indicated that PCR-RFLP and AS - PCR methods were simple and fast methods for determination of isoniazid resistance in Mycobacterium tuberculosis. These rapid and low cost methods is recommended simultaneously to reduce the risk of error in routine work.

Background: Ethionamide (ETH) is a structural analog of isoniazid and secondary line anti-tuberculosis drugs. Both of Ethionamide and isoniazid target INHA protein in mycobacterium tuberculosis. This protein involved in mycolic acid biosynthesis. The purpose of this study is evaluation of sequence of ethA gene in order to detect mutations related to resistance to isoniazide in clinical mycobacterium tuberculosis isolates. Material and Methods: In this study were evaluated 27 resistance and sensitive isolates to ethionamide. Because of length of this fragment (1470bp) were performed three reactions for each sample with ethA-10, ethA-8, ethA-9, ethA-4, ethA-5 and ethA-1 specific primers in PCR reaction. Results: From 27 used clinical isolates, 23 strains were resistant and 4 isolates were susceptible to ETH. Results of electrophoresis were proved proper selection of primers and PCR conditions. DNA sequencing results were determined mutations at some points of the gene in the resistant isolates to ETH, but none of susceptible strains harbored mutations. Conclusion: According to the results it was proved that any mutations in each point of ethA gene could cause resistance to Ethionamid. Rapid molecular detection of the resistance is possible only via complete sequencing of total length of this gene.

Background: Mycobacterium tuberculosis growth rate is closely coupled to rRNA transcription which is regulated through CarD gene. The aim of this work was evaluation of conservation in CarD gene’s sequence and its application in rapid detection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Materials and Methods: 38 clinical isolates of M. tuberculosis with different types of drug resistance were selected. PCR conditions and annealing temperature were selected by calculating thermal denaturation. Electrophoreses confirmed the presence of the amplified gene. Purified PCR product was sequenced by sequencer. Results: The size of amplified fragment of CarD gene was similar in all samples. By translation of nucleotide mode to amino acids it was found that TRCF domain in N-terminal of protein CarD was e fully conserved. Conclusion: This is the first study on the CarD gene in clinical isolates of MTB. This gene is recommended for use as a target for designing of suitable inhibitors as anti tuberculosis drug because of its importance in life of Mycobacterium Tuberculosis and being a conservative gene.

Background: Epidemiological studies showed that vitamin D deficiency is associated with components of metabolic syndrome. Objectives: The aim of the present study was to determine the association between serum 25 hydroxyvitamin D concentration and components of metabolic syndrome in Iranian adult women. Patients and Methods: This study was comprised of 156 women aged ≥ 30 years with at least three of the five criteria of metabolic syndromes. Serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25 (OH)D) levels and components of the metabolic syndrome were determined. Metabolic syndrome was defined according to NCEP/ATP III criteria. The subjects were classified into three groups according to their serum concentration of 25 (OH)D. Results: Mean of serum concentration of 25-hydroxyvitamin D was 20.5 ± 10.8 ng/mL with %54.5, 23.1% and 22.4% of subjects were deficient, insufficient and sufficient in vitamin D, respectively. After adjustment for age, BMI, physical activity, and ANCOVA, fasting blood sugar concentration was shown to be inversely associated with serum 25 (OH)D (P = 0.004). On the other hand HDL-C showed significant correlation across different groups of vitamin D status (P = 0.014). Waist Circumference had favorable changes, without any statistically significant correlation. Also no significant association was observed between other components of metabolic syndrome and 25 (OH)D in different groups. Conclusions: The components of metabolic syndrome are influenced by serum 25 (OH)D concentrations. The finding of this investigation revealed that FBS and HDL-C concentrations related to serum 25 (OH)D. Therefore, further longitudinal studies and randomized clinical trials are necessary to determine the possible role of vitamin D in prevention of diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

Introduction: Resistance to Fluroquinolones drugs are increasingly expanded. A molecular method was designed and compared for rapid detection of resistance to ofloxacin in clinical isolates of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Materials and methods: From 136 M. tuberculosis clinical isolates, 41 strains were used for comparison of detection of mutations associated with resistance in gyrA gene by Allele Specific-PCR (AS PCR). Specific internal primers were designed for detecting any changes in 90, 91 and 94 codons. Sequencing method was accomplished for evaluation of the results as gold standard. Results: AS-PCR method could detect mutations by formation or not formation of internal bounds and had good performance. Totally, from 37 strains phenotypically resistant to ofloxacine 32 strains were mutant and 5 strains were non mutant that have Sensitivity and specificity, 86/11% and 100%, respectively. Sequence results were concordant by results molecular methods. Discussion and conclusion: Results of the study showed that AS-PCR method could be used as a routine test for fast detection of resistance to fluroquinolones in M. tuberculosis.

Introduction: In this study, some molecular methods were designed for rapid detection of resistance to kanamycin and amikacin.Materials and methods: Among 120 clinical isolates of mycobacterium tuberculosis, 70 strains were selected for evaluation of possible mutations. A PCR-RFLP method was designed for detection of wild type (using enzyme ajii) and mutant from (BstFNI enzyme) of the isolates. Furthermore, allele specific method (as PCR) was designed for detection mutations in codons 1401 and 1402 gene rrs. Some selected isolates were sequenced.Results: In PCR-RFLP method, among the 70 strains examined by BstFNI enzyme, could detect 17 mutant strains among 24 phenotypicaly resistant and 44 non-mutant isolates from 46 susceptible isolates. The sensitivity of this method was %70.83 and specificity was %95.65 on the other hand, 12 mutant from 20 resistant strains and 29 non-mutant strains from 32 susceptible strains were detected by AjiI enzyme. The sensitivity and specificity of this method was 60 and %90.62, respectively. In MAS PCR, 3 mutants from 6 resistant strains and 12 non-mutants from 17 resistant strains were detected. The sensitivity of this method was 50 and specificity was 70.58. Results of sequencing method confirmed the results of molecular methods.Discussion and conclusion: PCR-RFLP method by BstFNI enzyme was the best method for rapid detection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis resistant to second-line injectable drugs and was recommended for routine use.

In clinical isolates of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB), resistance to pyrazinamide occurs by mutations in any positions of the pncA gene (NC_000962.3) especially in nucleotides 359 and 374. In this study we examined the pncA gene sequence in clinical isolates of MTB. Genomic DNA of 33 clinical isolates of MTB was extracted by the Chelex100 method. The polymerase chain reactions (PCR) were performed using specific primers for amplification of 744 bp amplicon comprising the coding sequences (CDS) of the pncA gene. PCR products were sequenced by an automated sequencing Bioscience system. Additionally, semi Nested-allele specific (sNASP) and polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) methods were carried out for verification of probable mutations in nucleotides 359 and 374. Sequencing results showed that from 33 MTB clinical isolates, nine pyrazinamide-resistant isolates have mutations. Furthermore, no mutation was detected in 24 susceptible strains in the entire 561 bp of the pncA gene. Moreover, new mutations of G→A at position 3 of the pncA gene were identified in some of the resistant isolates. Results showed that the sNASP method could detect mutations in nucleotide 359 and 374 of the pncA gene, but the PCR-RFLP method by the SacII enzyme could not detect these mutations. In conclusion, the identification of new mutations in the pncA gene confirmed the probable occurrence of mutations in any nucleotides of the pncA gene sequence in resistant isolates of MTB.

Objective/Background: The incidence of resistant strains of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB), including multi-drug resistant, extensively drug resistant, or totally drug resistant, is one of the major problems of health policies worldwide. The accumulation of mutations causes multi-drug resistant strains. Mycobacterium abscessus has a plasmid called pMab2401 containing the trfA1 gene in its integron part. The aim of the present study was to investigate the possible existence of the trfA1 gene in clinical strains of MTB for the first time. Methods: Bioinformatics analysis in GenBank revealed an absence of any integrons or internal components in MTB. Several specific primers for different genes and the trfA1 gene of M. abscessus were used in a touch-down (60–52) amplification program and followed by loading on gel electrophoresis. Products were extracted and were sequenced. Sequencing results were analyzed carefully and compared with those in the databank. Results: Bands of 500bp were resulted with pair primers in an amplification reaction by clinical MTB that has 94% identity with a fragment in most plasmids and phages M13. It should be noted that such an independent replication system-like structure has not been reported to date in MTB strains. Conclusion: The trfA1 gene is depends on the replication process. It is necessary to investigate other probable new areas that may be of concern with drug resistance in clinical isolates of MTB.

Background: Poor vitamin D status and low serum insulin-like growth factor-1(IGF-1) are associated with metabolic syndrome (MetS) and its components. But, there is no adequate evidence about this. The aim of this study was to examine relationship of factors with MetS features. Materials and Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 156 women aged 28-76 years with MetS were recruited by consecutive random sampling. Dietary vitamin D, serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH) D) and IGF-1 levels and also MetS components were determined. Result: The mean of serum 25(OH) D and IGF-1 concentrations were 20.5 ΁ 10.8, 194 ΁ 47 ng/mL, respectively. Overall, near 54.5% and 24% of subjects were vitamin D deficienct and insufficienct respectively. Univariate regression analysis showed that 25(OH) D concentration was negatively correlated with fasting blood sugar (P < 0.001) and no significant relation was observed between vitamin D status and serum IGF-1 with blood pressure and waist circumference. Multivariate regression analysis showed positive relation of 25(OH) D concentration with HDL-cholesterol (P = 0.031) and also dietary vitamin D is positively correlated with triglyceride (P = 0.026). IGF-1 as a predictor was not related to any of the MetS components. Conclusion: Our findings show that vitamin D status was related to FBS, HDL-C and triglyceride concentration; hence, with regard to findings of previous studies it seems that vitamin D is related to components of MetS. BACKGROUND: Although several studies have attempted to identify coronary artery disease (CAD) risk factors, few have explored the association between lifestyle-related factors and the severity of coronary artery stenosis. The present study was designed to assess the association between a combination of lifestyle, dietary, cardiometabolic, psychological, and mental factors, and CAD severity in adults undergoing angiography. METHODS: This cross-sectional study aimed to recruit a total of 700 patients (aged 35 to 75 years) who met the inclusion criteria and were referred for angiography between July 2020 and November 2021 to Afshar Hospital, a central heart disease hospital in Yazd city, Iran. To assess the presence and intensity of CAD, we used the Gensini and SYNTAX scores. Biochemical factors were measured using standard kits from serum samples, and extra serum and whole blood samples were retained for further analyses. Data on general information, dietary food and supplement intake, eating habits, medicinal herbs consumption, psychological and mental state, sleep quality, and other variables were gathered by trained interviewers using specific questionnaires. RESULTS: In total, 720 participants (444 males and 276 females) aged 56.57±9.78 years were included in the current study. Moderate to severe coronary artery stenosis was prevalent in 47.0% and 17.9% of participants based on Gensini and SYNTAX scores, respectively.
