In this paper, we introduce a new class of derivations that generalizes skew derivations and semi-derivations, and we call it skew semi-derivation. Furthermore, we present a study of the conditions under which this type of multiplicative derivation becomes additive. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aerobic substrate oxidation reactions catalyzed by a heterogeneous catalyst can be looked upon as two independent half-cell reactions, viz. anodic substrate oxidation and the cathodic oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). In this context, Fe PANI/C, a well-known catalyst for the ORR, is chosen to validate this hypothesis, wherein the anodic reaction is hydrazine oxidation. Fe PANI/C shows excellent activity in terms of the electrochemical ORR and hydrazine oxidation in both alkaline aqueous and non-aqueous media and taken together the aerobic oxidation efficacy of hydrazine-like small organic molecules is correlated with the electrochemical outcomes. An experiment was conducted at the Agronomy research field of Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI), Joydebpur, Gazipur and at Regional Agricultural Research Station, Burirhat, Rangpur during Rabi season of 2013-14 and 2014-15 to find out optimum sowing date of sweet corn in potato + sweet corn intercropping system for getting maximum yield and economic return. Six treatments viz., simultaneous sowing of potato and sweet corn, sweet corn sown at 10 days after potato planting (DAPP), sweet corn sown 20 DAPP, sweet corn sown 30 DAPP, sole potato and sole sweet corn were tested in this study. Sweet corn sown at 20 DPP produced the highest potato equivalent yield (Joydebpur: 41.41 t ha-1 in 2013-14 and 42.22 t ha-1 in 2014-15 and Rangpur: 42.29 t ha-1 in 2013-14 and 42.52 t ha-1 in 2014-15). The highest gross return at Joydebpur Tk. 431050 ha-1 and at Rangpur Tk. 436248 ha-1, gross margin at Joydebpur Tk. 286805 ha-1 and at Rangpur Tk. 271985 ha-1 and benefit cost ratio at Joydebpur 2.99 and at Rangpur 3.01 were observed over the years in the same treatment. In this treatment, tuber yield was reduced 3.4-4.1% in Joydebpur and 7.8-8.4% in Rangpur due to intercropping. The result indicated that sweet corn sown 20 DAPP might be suitable intercrop combination for getting maximum yield and economic return.

Copper nanoparticle on polyaniline support was synthesised by using in situ polymerisation and composite formation technique. This metal polymer nanocomposites material is found to be efficient for homocoupling of terminal alkynes which afford symmetrical 1,4-disubstituted 1,3-diynes in excellent yields under a mild reaction condition using piperidine as a base and dichloromethane at room temperature within 1-8 h. The reusability of the catalyst was also investigated and found to yield excellent yields upto six cycles without losing significant activity. Graphical Abstract: [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

An efficient copper-catalyzed method for the synthesis of tetrazolo[5,1- a ]isoquinolines has been developed starting from alkenyl-1,2-bis(boronates). The domino reaction underwent a Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reaction and an azidation followed by an in situ [3 + 2] cycloaddition. Regioselective synthesis has been demonstrated by inverting the Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reaction and the azidation.

Objectives: In this study, we aimed to describe how endoscopes show the neural and vascular structures at the cerebellopontine angle (CPA) through a minimal craniotomy in a well-described anatomic point in the retrosigmoid region and at the same time, evaluate the endoscopic anatomic exposure and maneuverability. We planned to use the new surgical instrument (endoscope cannula), which we designed on fresh frozen cadavers to simulate a real surgical procedure., Materials and Methods: The surgical procedure was planned to be performed on 20 sides of 10 fresh cadaver heads. The distance between the asterion and mastoid process was determined, and the midpoint was then marked. From this midpoint, a craniotomy 2 cm in size was posteriorly made. The endoscope cannula together with 0° or 30° endoscopes was inserted to capture the panoramic views of the neurovascular structures in CPA. Endoscopic anatomic exposure and maneuverability were evaluated using 0° and 30° endoscopes with/without the endoscope cannula., Results: The surgeon could easily use both hands during the surgical simulation, and maneuverability was seen to increase in CPA with the use of the endoscope cannula., Conclusion: The surgeon can work actively with both hands when the endoscopes and the endoscope cannula are used together. We believe that owing to this, the surgeon's maneuverability would increase and a more effective minimally invasive endoscopic retrosigmoid surgery would ensue.

Introduction: This study presents the current prevalence of anxiety, mood, and personality disorders as well as factors associated with the existence of psychiatric disorders in patients with benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV)., Methods: The study sample comprised 46 patients with BPPV and 74 control subjects. Anxiety and mood disorders were ascertained via the Structured Clinical Interview for the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM) of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition/Clinical Version. Personality disorders were diagnosed via the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM, Revised Third Edition, Personality Disorders., Results: Of the 46 patients, 18 (39.1%) had at least one mood or anxiety disorder and 13 (28.3%) had at least one personality disorder. The most common Axis I and Axis II disorders in the patient group were major depression in 8 (17.4%) and obsessive-compulsive personality disorder in 10 (21.7%) patients, respectively. It was found that major depression (p=0.021), generalized anxiety disorder (p=0.026) and obsessive- compulsive personality disorder (p=0.001) were more prevalent in the BPPV group compared with the control group., Conclusion: Results suggest that psychiatric disturbances should be carefully checked in patients with BPPV due to the relatively high rate of comorbidity., Competing Interests: Conflict of Interest: No conflict of interest was declared by the authors.

Despite enormous advances in remedies developed for breast cancer, an effective therapeutic strategy by targeting malignant cells with the least normal tissue toxicity is yet to be developed. Hsp90 is considered to be an important therapeutic target to inhibit cell proliferation. Geldanamycin (GDM), a potent inhibitor of Hsp90 was withdrawn from clinical trials due to its undesirable hepatotoxicity. We report a superparamagnetic iron oxide (SPION) based polymeric nanocomposite of GDM augmenting anticancer competence with decreased hepatic toxicity. The particle size of nanocomposite was ascertained to be 76±10nm with acceptable stability. A comparative dose dependent in vitro validation of cytotoxicity showed an enhanced cellular damage and necrosis in breast cancer (MCF-7) cell line at a low dose of 5.49nM (in GDM nanocomposite) in contrast to 20nM of pure GDM, while normal breast epithelial cells (MCF-10A) were least affected. Besides, in vivo study (in breast cancer xenografts) substantiated 2.7 fold delay in tumor progression mediated by redundancy in the downstream functions of p-Akt and MAPK-Erk leading to apoptosis with negligible hepatotoxicity. Pure GDM disrupted the function and morphology of liver with lesser therapeutic efficacy than the GDM nanocomposite. These findings deduce that GDM based polymeric magnetite nanocomposite play a vital role in efficacious therapy while vanquishing normal cells and hepatic toxicity and thereby promising it to be reinstated in clinics., (Copyright © 2017 Elsevier Inc. This study aimes to evaluate platelet and leucocyte indicators, such as the mean platelet volume, platelet distribution width, plateletcrit, white blood cell count, neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio in nasopharyngeal cancer patients and also to evaluate the relationship between these indicators and nasopharyngeal cancer with distant metastasis. The medical records of 118 patients diagnosed with nasopharyngeal cancer in our hospital between January 2006 and August 2015 were reviewed. The nasopharyngeal cancer group was further sub grouped according to the presence or absence of distant metastasis and TNM (tumour - T, node - N, metastasis - M) classification. A control group consisted of 120 healthy patients. The platelet and leucocyte values at the time of the initial diagnosis were recorded. Neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio and platelet distribution width values were significantly higher in the nasopharyngeal cancer group. But only platelet distribution width values were significantly higher in the nasopharyngeal cancer group with distant metastasis compared to the nasopharyngeal cancer group without distant metastasis. Neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio and platelet distribution width values may increase in nasopharyngeal cancer. But only the platelet distribution width values may give us an idea about the distant metastasis in nasopharyngeal cancer.

The central rift of the Red Sea has 25 brine pools with different physical and geochemical characteristics. Atlantis II (ATIID), Discovery Deeps (DD) and Chain Deep (CD) are characterized by high salinity, temperature and metal content. Several studies reported microbial communities in these brine pools, but few studies addressed the brine pool sediments. Therefore, sediment cores were collected from ATIID, DD, CD brine pools and an adjacent brine-influenced site. Sixteen different lithologic sediment sections were subjected to shotgun DNA pyrosequencing to generate 1.47 billion base pairs (1.47 × 10(9) bp). We generated sediment-specific reads and attempted to annotate all reads. We report the phylogenetic and biochemical uniqueness of the deepest ATIID sulfur-rich brine pool sediments. In contrary to all other sediment sections, bacteria dominate the deepest ATIID sulfur-rich brine pool sediments. This decrease in virus-to-bacteria ratio in selected sections and depth coincided with an overrepresentation of mobile genetic elements. Skewing in the composition of viruses-to-mobile genetic elements may uniquely contribute to the distinct microbial consortium in sediments in proximity to hydrothermally active vents of the Red Sea and possibly in their surroundings, through differential horizontal gene transfer.

Purpose: Babies born in the hospital where they obtain definitive surgical care do not require transportation between institutions and may have shorter time to surgical intervention. Whether these differences result in meaningful improvement in outcomes has been debated. A multi-institutional retrospective study was performed comparing outcomes based on birthplace., Methods: Six institutions within the PedSRC reviewed infants born with gastroschisis from 2008 to 2013. Birthplace, perinatal, and postoperative data were collected. Based on the P-NSQIP definition, inborn was defined as birth at the pediatric hospital where repair occurred. The primary outcome was days to full enteral nutrition (FEN; 120kcal/kg/day)., Results: 528 patients with gastroschisis were identified: 286 inborn, 242 outborn. Days to FEN, time to bowel coverage and abdominal wall closure, primary closure rate, and length of stay significantly favored inborn patients. In multivariable analysis, birthplace was not a significant predictor of time to FEN. Gestational age, presence of atresia or necrosis, primary closure rate, and time to abdominal wall closure were significant predictors., Conclusions: Inborn patients had bowel coverage and definitive closure sooner with fewer days to full feeds and shorter length of stay.
