Accurately predicting carbon‐climate feedbacks relies on understanding the environmental factors regulating soil organic carbon (SOC) storage and dynamics. Here, we employed a microbial ecological model (MEND), driven by downscaled output data from six Earth system models under two Shared Socio‐economic Pathways (SSP1‐2.6 and SSP5‐8.5) scenarios, to simulate long‐term soil biogeochemical processes. We aim to analyze the responses of soil microbial and carbon‐nitrogen (C‐N) processes to changes in environmental factors, including litter input (L), soil moisture (W) and temperature (T), and soil pH, in a broadleaf forest (BF) and a pine forest (PF). For the entire soil layer in both forests, we found that, compared to the baseline period of 2009–2020, the mean SOC during 2081–2100 increased by 40.9%–90.6% under the L or T change scenarios, versus 5.2%–31.0% under the W change scenario. However, soil moisture emerged as a key regulator of SOC, MBC and inorganic N dynamics in the topsoil of BF and PF. For example, W change led to SOC gain of 5.5%–37.2%, compared to the SOC loss of 15.5%–18.0% under L or T scenario. Additionally, a further reduction in soil pH by 0.2 units in the BF, representing the acid rain effect, significantly resulted in an additional SOC gain by 14.2%–21.3%, compared to the LTW (simultaneous changes in the three factors) scenario. These results indicate that the results derived solely from topsoil may not be extrapolated to the entire soil profile. Overall, this study significantly advances our comprehension of how different environmental factors impact the dynamics of SOC and the implications they have for climate change. The objective of the study is to understand the effect of martensite-austenite (MA) constituents along with the neighbouring bainitic matrix and its effect on low-temperature impact toughness in the thermo-mechanically simulated inter-critically reheated coarse-grained heat-affected zone (ICCGHAZ) of offshore High Strength Low Alloy (HSLA) steels. ICCGHAZ was simulated using a Gleeble 3500 thermomechanical simulator between the inter-critical temperature near Ac1 (lower ICT) and at a temperature 50 °C higher (upper ICT) for two different steels (steel A and steel B) with predominant microstructures composed of granular bainite (GB) and bainitic ferrite (BF), respectively. MA constituents were observed in the form of necklaces along prior austenitic grain boundaries (PAGB) of simulated ICCGHAZ for both steel A and steel B. Steel A combrised of discrete island MA constituents inside the GB grains and steel B consists of lath shaped MA constituents inside BF grains. Fractographical analysis showed that secondary cracks were initiated at the MA constituents along PAGB and propagated linearly into the GB/BF grains in the ICCGHAZ. The cracks initiated at the bulky MA at grain boundaries of steel A moved towards the pre-cracked or de-bonded discrete MA inside the grains and propagated through the interlinking of microcracks. In contrast, for steel B a notable percentage of cracks were initiated through the necklace-like MA at the grain boundaries and propagated through the BF lath. Pre-cracking of the slender MA present at the lath boundaries facilitated crack propagation in steel B. Furthermore, increasing the inter-critical temperature improved the impact toughness of steel A with a predominantly GB microstructure, whereas impact toughness improvement was limited in steel B with a BF microstructure.

Application of biofertilizers (BFs) is very important for the development of sustainable agriculture. These eco-friendly bioproducts improve soil structure and enhance its fertility and crop productivity. The usage of BFs may reduce or totally exclude the amount of chemical fertilizers, at the same time helps to receive residue free, safe and healthy crops. The application of BFs in hydroponic culture is especially important as soilless production of crops is totally based on the usage of synthetic fertilizers and the replacing them with these environment-friendly substances may be a good alternative. This review article is summarizes studies on application of BFs in soilless conditions. The article includes short information about BFs and hydroponics, the ways of application of BFs, the combined usage with inorganic nutrients, as well as the role on the nitrate accumulation in hydroponic conditions. Individual behaviors are critical for preventing the spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection. Given that both protective and risky behaviors influence risk of infection, it is critical that we understand how such behaviors cluster together and in whom. Using a data-driven approach, we identified clusters of COVID-19-related protective and risky behaviors and examined associations with socio-demographic, pandemic, and mental health factors. Data came from a cross-sectional online U.S. nationwide study of 832 adults with high levels of pre-pandemic trauma. Latent class analysis was performed with ten protective (e.g., washing hands, wearing masks) and eight risky (e.g., attending indoor restaurants, taking a flight) behaviors for COVID-19. Then, we examined distributions of socio-demographic and pandemic factors across behavior classes using ANOVA or Chi-square tests, and associations between mental health factors (depressive, anxiety, posttraumatic stress symptoms) and behavior classes using multinomial logistic regression. We identified four classes, including three classes with relatively low risky but high (28.8%), moderate (33.5%) and minimal (25.5%) protective behaviors and one high risky behaviors class with associated moderate protective behaviors (12.1%). Age, sexual orientation, political preference, and most pandemic factors differed significantly across behavior classes. Anxiety and posttraumatic stress symptoms, but not depression, were higher in the High Risk, but also Highly and Moderately Protective classes, relative to Minimally Protective. Prevention and intervention efforts should examine constellations of protective and risky behaviors to comprehensively understand risk, and consider current anxiety and posttraumatic stress symptoms as potential risk indicators.

The location of underground objects can be determined by using Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) system. The GPR operates in both MHz and GHz frequency band ranges and it uses ultra-wideband (UWB) radar systems. These systems are used to obtain high-resolution values for the accurate detection of objects. Typically, UWB radar systems for GPR technology are implemented using different types of antennas such as TEM horn antennas, cone slot antennas, helical antennas, bow-tie antennas, and Vivaldi antennas. The antenna characteristics required by ground penetrating radar systems must have a large bandwidth to check image resolution. This article describes the design method and theoretical conception of a bow-tie antenna that is developed for GPR applications. The dimensional parameters of the antenna are varied and their effects are judged in order to analyze its influence on return loss and operating bandwidth. The prescribed antenna is designed on a low-cost FR-4 substrate of 520 mm x 240 mm dimensions. Bow-tie antennas have been extensively studied and used to transmit and receive electromagnetic waves. The advantages of using this form are high radiation efficiency, thin profile, ease of manufacture and low manufacturing cost. Bow-tie antennas have been researched and developed as special-purpose electromagnetic wave receivers or transmitters. We have studied the dimensions of the antenna in the frequency range from 0.1 GHz to 3 GHz, using the electromagnetic simulation tool in the frequency domain CST. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Obesity has become a severe public health challenge globally. The present study aimed to identify separate and interactive dietary, genetic, and other factors that increase the risk of obesity as measured by body fat (BF) mass. We utilized a genome-wide association study to identify genetic variants associated with high fat mass (obesity; n = 10,502) and combined them to generate polygenic risk scores (PRS) of genetic variants interacting with each other in adults aged over 40 while excluding body-fat-related diseases in a city-hospital-based cohort (n = 53,828). It was validated in Ansan/Ansung plus rural cohorts (n = 13,007). We then evaluated dietary and lifestyle factors in subjects to assess what factors might help overcome a genetic propensity for higher BF. The three-SNP model included brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF)_rs6265, fat-mass- and obesity-associated protein (FTO)_rs1421085, and SEC16B_rs509325. The genes with the minor alleles of ADCY3_rs6545790 and BAIAP2_rs35867081 increased their gene expression in the visceral and subcutaneous adipocytes, but their gene expression decreased in the hypothalamus in eQTL analysis. In the three-SNP model, the PRS was associated with BF mass by 1.408 and 1.396 times after adjusting covariates 1 (age, gender, survey year, residence area, education, and income) and 2 (covariates in model 1 plus energy intake, alcohol intake, regular exercise, and smoking status), respectively. However, when separating subjects by PRS of the three-SNP model, a plant-based diet was the most significant factor associated with low BF, followed by high-protein diets and lower energy intakes. They could offset the effects of high genetic risk for high BF. In conclusion, modulating nutrient intakes might overcome a high genetic risk for obesity. Dietary choices favoring more plant-based and higher-protein foods might help prevent increased BF in Asians and potentially people of other ethnicities with high polygenetic risk scores. Simple Summary: Backfat thickness (BF) and loin muscle area (LMA) are important characteristics in pig breeding. The identification of the quantitative trait loci (QTLs) and genes closely associated with these carcass traits may be useful for pig molecular breeding. In this study, genome-wide association studies (GWAS) using imputation-based whole genome sequencing data of four selected phenotypic traits (adjusted 100 kg BF and LMA, adjusted 100 kg BF estimate breeding values and LMA estimate breeding values) were conducted in a total of 1131 pigs from three pure breeds (French Yorkshire, Landrace, and Duroc). As a result, we highlighted CCND2 and SHANK2 genes as strong candidates affecting BF traits. The results of this study may provide additional insight into the genetic contribution of these genes to carcass meat production capabilities in pig breeding and enhancing lean meat percentages in pigs. However, the genetic architecture of BF and LMA traits remains elusive. To identify quantitative trait loci (QTLs) and genes associated with these traits, we performed a genome-wide association study (GWAS) using imputation-based whole genome sequencing data for four phenotypes (adjusted 100 kg BF and LMA, adjusted 100 kg BF EBV and LMA EBV) in 1131 pigs from 3 breeds (French Yorkshire, Landrace, and Duroc). After genotype imputation and quality control, 14,163,315 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were retained for further analysis. For the adjusted 100 kg BF trait, using the 2-LOD drop method, a QTL with a 13.4 Kb interval (2.91 to 2.93 Mb on SSC2) and containing a SHANK2 gene was defined. In addition, two QTLs with 135.40 Kb (from 66.10 to 66.23 Mb) and 3.12 Kb (from 66.886 to 66.889 Mb) intervals containing CCND2 and TSPAN11 genes, respectively, were found on SSC5. For the BF-EBV trait, two QTLs (128.77 Kb from 66.10 to 66.23 Mb on SSC5 and 42.10 Kb from 2.89 to 2.93 Mb on SSC2) were identified. Notably, CCND2 and SHANK2 were the only candidate genes in their respective QTL interval. Furthermore, we detected a 3.33 Kb (66.106 to 66.110 Mb on SSC2) haplotype block which was detected as affecting the BF_EBV trait, which only contained the CCND2 gene. Thus, we suggested CCND2 and SHANK2 as strong candidate genes for regulating the BF trait for pigs. The empirical confidence intervals of the QTLs were 1.14 Mb (165.65 to 166.79 Mb on SSC6) for adjusted 100 kg LMA and 1.49 Mb (165.26–166.74 Mb on SSC6) for LMA-EBV. These two confidence intervals contained 13 and 28 annotated genes, respectively. Our results provide a deeper understanding of the genetic basis of pig carcass traits. As the basic equipment in the rubber field, the internal mixer is suitable for long-term rubber mixing. For the continuous production of the factory, the wear of the internal mixer is a problem that cannot be ignored. This article mainly studies the wear of the end face of the internal mixer. The end face of the mixer is connected to the mixing chamber. With the increase in mixing time, the end face of the mixer is inevitably worn. The abrasion of the end face of the internal mixer causes the gap between the end face of the internal mixer and the mixing chamber to increase, and the materials in the mixing chamber leak out. This affects the ratio of materials and reduces the mixing effect. And with the increase in material leakage, the abrasion of the end face of the internal mixer is intensified, which eventually leads to a decrease in the compound's performance. BF is a pure natural inorganic non-metallic material. It has good high-temperature resistance, and high compressive strength can be used in various environments and is inexpensive and cost-effective. Based on this, BF is increasingly used in the rubber field. In this paper, the effect of adding different amounts of BF on the friction and wear of the end face of the internal mixer is studied, and the proportions of varying wear forms are distinguished for the first time.The study finds that with the increase of BF in the compound, the proportion of abrasive wear first decreased and then increased, the balance of corrosion wear first increased and then decreased, and the amount of metal wear first decreased and then increased. It is found that the lowest wear of the rubber compound on the metal can be achieved when the amount of BF reaches 10 phr. When the BF amount increases, the corresponding amount of metal wear increases.

The functions of a wide variety of molecules with structures similar to the classical class I and class II molecules encoded by the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) have been studied by biochemical and structural studies over decades, with many aspects for humans and mice now enshrined in textbooks as dogma. However, there is much variation of the MHC and MHC molecules among the other jawed vertebrates, understood in the most detail for the domestic chicken. Among the many unexpected features in chickens is the co-evolution between polymorphic TAP and tapasin genes with a dominantly-expressed class I gene based on a different genomic arrangement compared to typical mammals. Another important discovery was the hierarchy of class I alleles for a suite of properties including size of peptide repertoire, stability and cell surface expression level, which is also found in humans although not as extreme, and which led to the concept of generalists and specialists in response to infectious pathogens. Structural studies of chicken class I molecules have provided molecular explanations for the differences in peptide binding compared to typical mammals. These unexpected phenomena include the stringent binding with three anchor residues and acidic residues at the peptide C-terminus for fastidious alleles, and the remodelling binding sites, relaxed binding of anchor residues in broad hydrophobic pockets and extension at the peptide C-terminus for promiscuous alleles. The first few studies for chicken class II molecules have already uncovered unanticipated structural features, including an allele that binds peptides by a decamer core. It seems likely that the understanding of how MHC molecules bind and present peptides to lymphocytes will broaden considerably with further unexpected discoveries through biochemical and structural studies for chickens and other non-mammalian vertebrates. Polar codes is the only coding scheme in the world that has been proved that the Shannon threshold is reachable. Because of the high time delay caused by the serial characteristic of Successive Cancellation (SC) decoding, the Belief Propagation (BP) decoding has received more attention because of its higher throughput. However, because its decoding performance is not as good as SC decoding, Bit-Flip (BF) decoding is used in BP. Aiming at the inaccurate construction of flip set in current bit flipping decoding, this paper proposes a new bit error rate BP BF (BPF) decoding algorithm, which is used to construct flip set. We also propose rough flip set and fine flip set Concept of flip set. The rough flip set is constructed by the variance of the characteristics of data stability. The range of the flip set is reduced by the difference in bit error rate, that is, the fine flip set. The research results show that the algorithm proposed in this paper is superior to the current best decoding algorithms such as BP, Enhanced BPF (EBPF) and Log Likelihood Ratio BPF (BPF-LLR). At the same time, the number of iterations of the algorithm is significantly reduced compared with other bit-flipping decoding algorithms.

In this study, a series of BF smelting industrial tests were conducted with different proportions of pellet in ironbearing materials in a 450 m3 BF in Hebei, China. The results showed that with increasing proportion of pellet, total sulfur(S) input amount of the raw materials in BF iron-making process decreased after a slight increase. The sulfur input of pellets increased while that of sinter, coke and coal tended to decrease. On the other hand, the quantity and proportion of sulfur element in BF gas had a small rise while those in BF slag did not change much, and the quantity of sulfur in BF dust and iron remained relatively stable. The result revealed that increasing the pellet proportion will not affect the quality of pig iron (PI), but also can reduce the sulfur load of BF.

Summary: Intramuscular fat (IMF) is an important meat‐quality trait of pigs, which influences pork's shearing force, hydraulics, tenderness and juicy flavor. However, to achieve a higher percentage of lean meat, pigs with lower backfat thickness (BF) are intensively selected for, which may lead to a reduction in pork quality. Therefore, the objective of this study was to locate loci that affect IMF without changing BF. A single‐step GWAS was performed on 950 Duroc pigs genotyped by a 50K SNP chip in order to detect genomic variants relevant to IMF and BF. The significant SNPs detected were afterwards divided into a BF subset (seven SNPs), an IMF subset (11 SNPs) and a subset of both traits (12 SNPs), according to their P‐value and LD. After SNP and QTL annotation, our results indicated that SSC1: 167938652, 166363826, 164829874 and 167171587 might be associated with IMF without changing BF. In the subset of both traits, we found that the combined effect of ALGA0006602 (SSC1: 159538854) and 12784636 (SSC1: 160773437) might improve the IMF without changing BF. Our gene annotation result showed that TLE3, ITGA11, SMAD6, PAQR5 and [RNF152A/G × MC4RA/A] genes might affect IMF independently of BF. We believe that the SNPs and genes identified in this study will be valuable for the future molecular breeding of IMF in Duroc pigs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
