Past studies of citation coverage of Web of Science, Scopus, and Google Scholar do not demonstrate a consistent pattern that can be applied to the interdisciplinary mix of resources used in social work research. To determine the utility of these tools to social work researchers, an analysis of citing references to well-known social work journals was conducted. Web of Science had the fewest citing references and almost no variety in source format. Scopus provided higher citation counts, but the pattern of coverage was similar to Web of Science. Google Scholar provided substantially more citing references, but only a relatively small percentage of them were unique scholarly journal articles. The patterns of database coverage were replicated when the citations were broken out for each journal separately. The results of this analysis demonstrate the need to determine what resources constitute scholarly research and reflect the need for future researchers to consider the merits of each database before undertaking their research. This study will be of interest to scholars in library and information science as well as social work, as it facilitates a greater understanding of the strengths and limitations of each database and brings to light important considerations for conducting future research. This article examines the influence of citation impact on scholarship. Citation analysis allows authors to determine how often their work has been cited by others. This creates a quantitative hierarchy of influence and relevance, potentially boosting the author's reputation. However, the author suggests the pressure for prestige may distort the natural processes of research and publication. He analyzes citation impact through the perspective of East Asian management research and finds many researches are following Western models instead of offering innovative new theories.

Introduction.The ultimate viability of an information system is dependent on individuals' continued use of the information system. In this study, we use the technology acceptance model and the theory of interpersonal behaviour to predict continued use of information systems. Method.We established a Web questionnaire on the mysurvey Website and recruited participants via social networks. Data were collected from a sample of 1154 Webmail users in Taiwan. Analysis. Our models are analysed using the partial least squares structural equation modelling method. Results. The results of this study indicate that (1) the theory of interpersonal behaviour has better ability to predict continued use than the technology acceptance model; (2) the technology acceptance model has a better ability to predict intention to continue use than the theory of interpersonal behaviour; (3) the combination between the technology acceptance model and the theory of interpersonal behaviour is properly able to explain continued use of information systems; (4) multiple group analysis indicates that two relations in the combined model differ significantly between light experience users and heavy experience users. Conclusions. The technology acceptance model and the theory of interpersonal behaviour should not be viewed as alternative but as supplementary models. Introduction. We analyse the collaboration and co-citation networks at the international level in scientific articles about violence against women. The aim is to identify who are writing about this subject, if they are women and/or men, who the most influential authors are and which institutions they belong to, and finally which authors are cited most frequently. Method. As a source of information we have consulted the Web of Science database, from which we recovered and analysed a total of 8,448 articles. Analysis. We analysed a simple of 5,219 authors. For the social network analysis and the visualization of centrality measures, collaboration and cocitation we used the software programme Pajek. The collaboration density maps were visualised using VOSViewer. Results. A total of 8,448 publications were analysed, showcasing the authors with a higher collaboration and cocitation centrality as well as their gender. We also present most influencial authors, their collaboration networks and the institutions to which they are affiliated. Conclusions.The results show that research into violence against women is led by women; they publish more articles than men; they collaborate more closely; they hold positions that enable them to channel and disseminate flows of information and collaboration groups; and they have closer links to other authors. Although cited reference studies are common in the library and information science literature, they are rarely performed in nonacademic institutions or in the atmospheric and oceanic sciences. In this paper, we analyze more than 400,000 cited references made by authors affiliated with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration between 2009 and 2013. Our results suggest that these methods can be applied to research libraries in a variety of institutions, that the results of analyses performed at one institution may not be applicable to other institutions, and that cited reference analyses should be periodically updated to reflect changes in authors’ referencing behavior. This paper finds out the citation management and the needs of students of Department of Library and Information Science, University of Delhi, and how online citation tools it into their academic and research process. The results indicate that all the respondents are aware of online citation tools and using them occasionally. EasyBib was the popular online citation tool among respondents. The survey results show that most of the respondents learned the online citation tools through department's website. The main purpose of using online citation tools was for their academic/research work. Most of the respondents were accessing online citation tools from the Delhi University Computer Centre. They had not received any formal training for creating online citations. Simplified and easy bibliography and automatic creation of references list are two major benefits of online citation tools. The most obvious impediment is that they have never used the online tools before. Meagre respondents wanted training in using online citation tools for creating efficient references. The findings of the study will not only help the Library and Information Science students about knowing what a citation is and understanding the concepts of citation styles and formatting, but also help citation-related competencies and skills in recognising citations and understanding their functions in research. Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to uncover how knowledge is exchanged and disseminated in the educational administration research literature through the journal citation network. Design/methodology/approach – Drawing upon social network theory and citation network studies in other disciplines, the authors constructed an educational administration journal citation network by extracting all 157,372 citations from 5,359 journal articles in 30 educational administration journals from 2009 to 2013. The authors then performed social network analysis to visualize the network structure by journal clusters, and quantified journal prominence and interdisciplinarity by calculating Freeman indegree and betweenness, respectively. In addition to journal-to-journal citations, the authors examined the sources of non-journal citations by citation counts. Findings – The results of journal prominence, interdisciplinarity, and eight journal clusters in the citation network indicate that educational administration, as a porous field, intimately interacts with the sub-fields of education (e.g. urban education and teacher education), other disciplines (e.g. economics, human resources, sociology, and psychology), and the research internationally. In addition to journals as the knowledge source (45.29 percent), the authors also found books (31.08 percent) and reports (14.98 percent) are important citation sources in the educational administration research literature. The most cited books and reports shed light on the knowledge base in the theory, research, and practice of educational administration. Originality/value – The results of this by far the largest-scale study of educational administration journals present abundant evidence that educational administration is a porous field. This qualitative research study examines how 12 undergraduate second-language learners understood the concept of citations in academic writing. The following questions guided this study: What are the participants’ beliefs about citing research? How do students conceive the role and function of citations in their writing assignments? How do they make decisions about what and what not to cite? Results indicated that students believed that citations were a superficial accessory to the main text and only cited information to comply with teacher directives, thereby, sacrificing their own empowerment in the writing process. To overcome their unfamiliarity with academic prose, students created specific compensatory writing strategies. Although this study included only L2 students, the findings are consistent with the research involving monolingual students. This research can inform educators about the need to engage undergraduate students in participatory discussions about the role, function, and power of referencing within a privileged academic discourse. Student-to-student peer review or peer feedback is commonly used in student-centered or active-learning classrooms. In this article, we describe a footnoting exercise that we implemented in two of our undergraduate courses as one way to encourage students to acknowledge collaborations and contributions made during peer-review processes. This exercise was developed in response to a teaching problem well documented in the literature and often experienced firsthand in our own courses: students do not always transfer to future iterations of their work what they have learned in response to previous feedback. Following a description of the footnoting exercise, we analyze the resulting footnotes that the students produced. Aim To examine how effectively forwards citation searching with Web of Science (WOS) or Google Scholar (GS) identified evidence to support public health guidance published by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence. Method Forwards citation searching was performed using GS on a base set of 46 publications and replicated using WOS. Outcomes WOS and GS were compared in terms of recall; precision; number needed to read (NNR); administrative time and costs; and screening time and costs. Outcomes for all publications were compared with those for a subset of highly important publications. Results The searches identified 43 relevant publications. The WOS process had 86.05% recall and 1.58% precision. The GS process had 90.7% recall and 1.62% precision. The NNR to identify one relevant publication was 63.3 with WOS and 61.72 with GS. There were nine highly important publications. WOS had 100% recall, 0.38% precision and NNR of 260.22. GS had 88.89% recall, 0.33% precision and NNR of 300.88. Administering the WOS results took 4 h and cost £88-£136, compared with 75 h and £1650-£2550 with GS. Research has explored how scholars use citations to write intertextually across disciplines but have rarely compared how students, especially undergraduates, appropriate source texts in their writing in arts versus sciences. This study explores textual appropriation and source use in disciplinary writing of second language undergraduates in a North American university. Two samples of undergraduate writing were analyzed. One is a biology paper written by Cary to summarize a scientific concept or statement, and the other is an essay in Film Studies written by Martin on a topic of his own choosing. Text-based interviews were conducted to solicit participants' comments and explanations of how they used source texts in completing the two specific disciplinary writing tasks. Results suggest different citing behaviors between the two students in terms of the types of sources they used (textbooks, monographs, and non-reading sources), the format of textual borrowing (quoting versus paraphrasing), and reasons for citing and not citing (e.g., to use others' words or ideas versus expressing one's own ideas or knowledge). Tenure decisions, key decisions in academic institutions, are primarily based on subjective assessments of candidates. Using a large-scale bibliometric database containing 198,310 papers published 1975-2012 in the field of operations research (OR), we propose prediction models of whether a scholar would perform well on a number of future success metrics using statistical models trained with data from the scholar's first five years of publication, a subset of the information available to tenure committees. These models, which use network centrality of the citation network, coauthorship network, and a dual network combining the two, significantly outperform simple predictive models based on citation counts alone. Using a data set of the 54 scholars who obtained a Ph.D. after 1995 and held an assistant professorship at a top-10 OR program in 2003 or earlier, these statistical models, using data up to five years after the scholar became an assistant professor and constrained to tenure the same number of candidates as tenure committees did, made a different decision than the tenure committees for 16 (30%) of the candidates. This resulted in a set of scholars with significantly better future A-journal paper counts, citation counts, and h-indexes than the scholars actually selected by tenure committees. Journals are the major sources of primary information. The use of journals in scholarly literature reveals the research gap as well as research trend on a research phenomenon. The frequency of use of ajournai at global level states its quality and its circulation. In this regard the present study is an attempt to know the citation to Indian LIS journals in selected international LIS journals during 2004-2013. Findings of the study show that there were 7877 journal citations from a total of 659 articles. The present research seeks to have an in depth study (citation analysis) of papers published by the academicians and researchers in Defence Science Journal (DSJ) during 2006-2013. Defence Science Journal (DSJ) has been selected as the source journal. 47 issues pertaining to eight volumes from 2006-2013 have been consulted and selected for the study. Information about each contribution such as author, author's affiliation (lab), citations were noted down manually. The recorded data was analyzed, interpreted and tabulated. The study uses 631 articles which have been published in this journal during 8 years. Highest number of articles (94) were published in the year 2007. In authorship pattern more than two authors citations are dominant than others and it makes a share of 47.8%. Maximum papers, i.e. 40 (6.3%) are reported to contribute from High Energy Materials Research Laboratory (HEMRL), Pune. Himanshu Shekhar from High Energy Materials Research Laboratory, Pune contributed the highest number of papers, i.e. 11. Furthermore, the study also indicates that highest number of papers in DSJ, i.e. 110 (sharing 17.4% of the total) are related to Electronics and Instrumentation. Majority of the foreign articles are contributed from China followed by Czech Republic. This paper provides suggestions derived from the analysis of data which would definitely be helpful in knowing the relevance of popular/ highly cited journals discipline wise, productivity of authors in various DRDO Labs and other organisations and how to popularize DSJ in different parts of the world. Bibliocentricity in the library catalog arose from the practice of resource description, which emerged from the simple listing of books as objects with little reference to their intellectual content. Combined with shifting cultural conceptions of authorship, this led to a complex system in which the implicit concept of "goodness" affected the efficacy of description of varying resources. Issues of domain-specificity, cultural origins or contexts of usage have been disregarded in deference to book-like considerations. RDA (Resource Description and Access provides for analytical descriptions using the knowledge-based FRBR conceptual model of entities based on the artifactual intersection of intellectual works and cultural information carriers. The more empirically-based FRBRoo, an object-oriented revision of the conceptual model, reflects the atemporality of instantiation. FRBRoo seems promising as a potential additional facet for expressing structural components of knowledge represented by traditionally conceptual KOSs. In this study two cases are analyzed from the point of view of both RDA and FRBRoo. Analysis shows how little synergy has been gained through RDA's implementation of the FRBR model. The cases analyzed using RDA and FRBRoo serve as artifacts of cultural discourse, by which the measure of objective violence reflects the degree to which individual works still cannot be disambiguated. The article reports on a study of the views and actions of nearly a hundred scholars - mostly academic researchers from four European countries and four disciplines - in regard to scholarly reputation in the Science 2.0 age. It specifically looks at the role that 'emerging' reputational mechanisms and platforms are playing in building, maintaining, and showcasing scholarly reputation in the digital age. Popular examples of such platforms are ResearchGate and Academia. edu. Data were obtained through one-to-one interviews and focus groups, supported by desk research. The main findings were: (a) it is early days and uptake is light and patchy with platforms largely used for non-reputational purposes, such as sharing documents; (b) most users were passive and did not fully engage with the social aspects of the platforms; (c) the reputational focus was very much on just one scholarly activity (research), on just two outputs of that activity (publications and conferences) and one measurement of that activity (citations), but there are the stirrings of change; (d) young researchers are set to profit most from the emerging platforms. This study investigated changes in the internationality of national publishers' journals for the period 1990-2013. The patterns of foreign and interregional authorship in papers and references of 4,199 journals from 3,529 publishers were analyzed. The results revealed that foreign authorship increased from 36% to 62% during the period, but interregional authorship only grew from 77% to 82%. The growth in internationality is not the same across disciplines and regions of the world. Agricultural sciences, psychiatry/ psychology, and economics and business have the least number of foreign authors, while journals in space science, mathematics, and physics have the most. According to the number of both foreign-authored papers and foreign-authored citations, clinical medicine is one of the least international fields. Latin America and Middle East publishers have a greater tendency to publish papers from authors in their countries. In contrast, national publishers in North America have become considerably more international over time. We analyze the citation impacts (,cited1) and citation practices (,citing1) of sociological journals which publish mainly in Gennan, and discuss major drawbacks of using the journal impact factor (IF) to assess the quality of these journals. First, sociological literature moves very slowly in terms of citations, whereas journal impact factors (IF) measure short-term impact at research fronts. Second, the citation distributions are heavily skewed because of the so-called Matthew effect (Merton) of cumulative advantages; one should not use quasi-averages (such as the IF) given this skewness. The alternative of using non-parametric statistics (e.g., percentiles), however, requires delineation of the reference sets. We discuss the unsolved problems in the case of (inter)disciplinary delineations and show empirically the ecological fallacy in nevertheless attributing journal characteristics to individual papers. This study aims to explore the relationship between science and technology via analyzing cross citations between papers and patents in fuel cells. To calculate cross citation indicators, papers were retrieved from the WOS database and patent data from the USPTO during the period between 1991 and 2010, resulting in a total of 20,758 papers and 8112 patents. This study shows that there is a gradually increasing convergence between science and technology, particularly of science linkage in recent years. Papers citing patents are more time-sensitive than patents citing papers. Academic institutions are more likely to cite papers and patents published by other academic institutions. The purpose of this article is to identify and discuss the possible uses of higher education journal rankings, and the associated advantages and disadvantages of using them. The research involved 40 individuals – lecturers, university managers, journal editors and publishers – who represented a range of stakeholders involved with research into higher education. The respondents completed an online questionnaire that consisted mainly of open questions. Although clear support for or opposition to journal rankings was split about equally, over two-thirds of the respondents reported having used or referred to a journal ranking during the previous 12 months. This suggests wide acceptance of the use of journal rankings, despite the downsides and problematic nature of these rankings being clearly recognised. Does online availability boost citations? Using a panel of citations to economics and business journals, we show that the enormous effects found in previous studies were an artifact of their failure to control for article quality, disappearing once fixed effects are added as controls. The absence of aggregate effects masks heterogeneity across platforms: JSTOR has a uniquely large effect, boosting citations around 10%. We examine other sources of heterogeneity, including whether JSTOR disproportionately increases cites from developing countries or to ''long-tail'' articles. The emergence of massive open online course (MOOCs) has been a turning point for the academic world and, especially, in the design and provision of training courses in Higher Education. Now that the first moments of the information explosion have passed, a rigorous analysis of the effect of the movement in high-impact scientific world is needed in order to assess the state of the art and future lines of research. This study analyzes the impact of the MOOC movement in the form of scientific article during the birth and explosion period (2010-2013) in two of the most relevant databases: Journal Citation Reports (WoS) and Scopus (Scimago). We present, through a descriptive and quantitative methodology, the most significant bibliometric data according to citation index and database impact. Furthermore, with the use of a methodology based on social network analysis (SNA), an analysis of the article's keyword co-occurrence is presented through graphs to determine the fields of study and research. The results show that both the number of articles published and the citations received in both databases present a medium-low significant impact, and the conceptual network of relationships in the abstracts and keywords does not reflect the current analysis developed in general educational media. In this article we study the relation between first rate scientists and first rate organizations. These notions are operationalized by counting citations (whole counts in the Web of Science) for articles published during the period 2008 to 2011. Care has been taken to obtain clean data by careful institutional name disambiguation. It is found that, especially for large fields, more than 80% of top scientists work at top organizations. This is less the case for smaller fields such as mathematics and computer science. Our research confirms the skewness (elitism) of science, also for the relation between first rate scientists and the organizations to which they belong. We find, moreover, that top institutions have relatively more excellent scientists and relatively fewer researchers with poor performance than the average level of all institutions in a field. Objective -- To determine whether playing library-related online games during information literacy instruction sessions improves student performance on questionnaires pertaining to selected research practices: identifying citation types and keyword and synonym development. Methods -- 86 students in seven introductory English composition classes at a large urban university in the northeastern United States served as participants. Each class visited the library for library instruction twice during a given semester. In the experimental group students received information literacy instruction that incorporated two online games, and the control group received the same lesson plan with the exception of a lecture in place of playing games. A six-item pre- and posttest questionnaire was developed and administered at the outset and conclusion of the two-session classes. The 172 individual tests were coded, graded, and analyzed using SPSS. Results -- A paired sample t-test comparing the control and experimental groups determined that that there was a statistically significant difference between scores on pre-tests and post-tests in the experimental group but not the control group. Conclusion -- Students who played the online games improved significantly more from pre-test to post-test than students who received a lecture in lieu of playing online games, suggesting that participating in games related to the instruction they received resulted in an improved ability to select appropriate keywords and ascertain citation formats. These findings contribute to the evidence that online games concerning two frequently challenging research practices can be successfully applied to library instruction sessions to improve student comprehension of such skills. The purpose of this research is, firstly, to map the 48 national literatures of Europe, through the exploration and the analysis of the bibliographic references contained in the main literary database, the Modern Language Association International Bibliography. Secondly, the series obtained are correlated to economic and development indicators in order to determine whether and how the cultural, economic, and social fields interact with each other. From the theoretical viewpoint, this project stands at the crossroad of several concepts: the literary field defined by Pierre Bourdieu (1972, 1980, 1992), knowledge domain analysis (Hjørland& Albrechtsen 1995; Hjørland 2001; Nascimento & Marteleto 2008), scientometrics (Price 1963; Garfield 1980, 2005; Leydesdorff 1998), and the recently emerged concept of big data (Berman 2013; Boyd & Crawford 2012; Mayer-Schönberger& Cukier 2013). Methodologically, aiming at quantitatively identifying the European national literatures, we base our research on scientometrics. Initially developed by Price (1963), the purpose of scientometrics is to measure and to analyze the scientific and technological activity. In this study, we adapt scientometric indicators to the architecture and features of the Modern Language Association International Bibliography. Thus, the elaboration of bibliometric indicators (Garfield 1980, 2005; Hjorland & Albrechtsen 1995) allowed us to obtain the number of bibliographic references dedicated to the study of each of the 48 European national literatures, making it possible for us tovisualize the importance of each of these literatures and to compare them to economic and social indicators. This study deals with bibliography of Russian books published under the Tsarist Russia. It determines the fact that Russian scholars belonging to the Academy of Russian Sciences had produced valuable studies regarding the Balkans. The availability of them about the aforementioned region stems from the fact that destinies of both Russia and the Balkans are closely linked with each other. No doubt that this is of great importance for Turkish historiography as well. This paper gives the results of three measures given to 200 college students who rated the positivity of titles of articles and books shown either as full bibliographic citation or as title only. Half of the titles were taken from the university's academic library's section on humanitiessocial sciences, and the other half from the science-technology section. Several ANOVA tests are reported. Titles from humanities-social sciences were more correctly associated with their subject headings and were recalled better than titles from the science-technology area. The results are discussed in the context of a theory of titles that specifies three psychological characteristics of all titles that are present within the linguistic or bibliographic meta-information. Research collaboration is studied in different research areas, so as to provide useful insights on how researchers combine existing distributed scientific knowledge and transform it into new knowledge. Commonly used metrics for measuring research collaborative activity include, among others, the co-authored publications (concerned with who works with whom) and the citations (concerned with who cites who). Within this context, in this paper, we focus on the co-authorship network of researchers who collaborate in Technology-enhanced Learning (TeL). This is achieved through the example of the Educational Technology & Society (ETS) Journal, where Social Network Analysis (SNA) metrics are applied for analyzing the co-authorship network of the journal. The results of our analysis provided us with evidence that the key authors of ETS Journal co-authorship network have a Taiwanese national background and they have established a strongly connected group that collaborates frequently, diversely and widely. Both authors and collaborations of the ETS co-authorship network have been polynomially increasing during the past 15 years and the co-authorship network has probably arrived at its "phase transition," which means that it is expected to start becoming more connected in the coming years. We use a quality-based approach to assess contributing institutions and authors in international business (IB) research. Specifically, we use Google Scholar citations of individual articles to weigh the number of IB research articles in core IB and other non-IB elite journals. Our approach mitigates concerns about the quality difference among articles across different journals and within individual journals. We find evidence to suggest that IB research in the European and Asia-Pacific regions exhibits an upward trend over the 1995-2011 period. With respect to institutional research quality, we document that an IB program with faculty members working with their peers in foreign countries and the presence of a doctoral program can enhance an institution's research quality. Higher education research is a growing, inter-disciplinary and increasingly international field of study. This article examines the citation patterns of articles published in six leading higher education journals-three published in the United States and three published elsewhere in the world-for what they reveal about the development of this field. The analysis shows that the American journals are not only dominated by American-based authors, but that they also cite predominantly articles, books, chapters and other publications published in the United States. By contrast, the three non-American journals accommodate a much broader spread internationally of both authors and citations. In this paper we analyze a collection of bibliographic networks, constructed from the data from the Web of Science on works (papers, books, etc.) on the topic of topological indices and on relating scientific fields. We present the general outlook and more specific findings about authors, works and journals, subtopics and keywords and also important relations between them based on scientometric approaches like the strongest and main citation paths, the main themes on citation path based on keywords, results of co-authorship analysis in form of the most prominent islands of citing authors, groups of collaborating authors, two-mode cores of authors and works. We investigate the nature of citing of authors, important journals and citing of works between them, journals preferred by authors and expose hierarchy of similar collaborating authors, based on keywords they use. Enlightened by Avramescu's studies, we classified the citation patterns of high-quality and high-impact publicationsinto five mathematical types: lognormal-type, exponential-type, polynomial-type, wave-type and sleeping-beauty. Based on practical datasets of high-quality and high-impact publications, the five types of citation patterns are fitted well at statistical level. The results reveal that high-quality publications usually appear irregular citation curves (wave-type and sleeping-beauty) and high-impact publications tend to show regular ones (lognormal-type, exponential-type and polynomial-type). Most studies of the research productivity and performance of institutions concentrate on their primary organizations (such as universities) and only few of them deal with sub-organizations of institutions (such as schools or departments) on the large scale. In this paper, we bridge this gap in computer science and analyze the metadata on almost 150,000 journal articles indexed by the Web of Science from the period 1996-2005 juxtaposing the first five with the last five years of this epoch. We extract authors' affiliations from the data and aggregate the articles by sub-organizations of their authors. Consequently, we produce rankings of computer science departments based on various scientometric indicators and compare the corresponding rankings from the two time periods. We find that, in absolute terms, "IBM Corp.; Thomas J. Watson Research Center" always belongs to the best performers by all criteria whereas in relative terms there is no clear performer. We also examine the complete collaboration and citation networks of departments and visualize the most intense collaborations and citations in both periods. Despite their common roots in the early theories of organization, public administration and organization studies have evolved separately. This article explores the conditions that favor and initiate the cross-boundary exchange of knowledge between these two fields. The study applies bibliometric methodology and advances standard methods of science-mapping by combining different levels of analysis in a two-mode network, drawing on citation data from 16 European and North American top journals in organization studies and public administration, spanning the period 2000 to 2010. None of the 18 clusters of current research extracted from these data can be traced in both organization studies and public administration, however closer analysis reveals two strong links between these fields and indicates that the boundaries between them are semipermeable, allowing the unidirectional, rather than bidirectional, transfer of knowledge from organization studies to public administration. Open Access movement and currently formed GL circuit provide the scientific community with unique opportunity to modernize a fundamental part of research life-cycle: processes by which the scientists reuse research outputs when they produce new knowledge and then the community assesses their impact. When scientists mentally manipulate the research outputs, outcomes and other objects of scientific information space they discover relationships between the objects and thereby they reuse it to produce a new scientific knowledge. Some of these relationships become visible in scientists' articles (e.g. by citations). Most of them are directly not observable and may exist in a mental form only. In the paper we propose an "open use" approach for the research area and discuss a practical implementation of the model within a research information system "Socionet" supported a grey literature circuit. This article presents a study of the average number of excess citations of papers in the h-core, denoted as e²/h and the ratio between the e-area and the h-area, denoted as e²/h². Real-world citation data from different countries are studied. It is found that at the country level, a small set of publications generate a disproportionately large amount of citations. Although different countries have different e²/h² values in different fields, average e²/h² values are all above 1. The e²/h values vary widely between fields, reflecting the general citation density in these fields. For cumulative data e²/h² and e²/h values each converge quickly. The paper analyses the rankings of 25 most productive Indian universities in overall social sciences and in its four subfields, based on various quantitative indicators, such as the total number of papers and international collaborative papers, qualitative indicators such as the average number of citations per paper and h-index value, and in terms of new composite indicator (which combines quantitative and qualitative aspects). Many universities changed their ranking positions, when their ranking based on quantitative and qualitative indicator is compared with composite indicator. Finally, analysed that the ranking, based on composite indicators, gives much better results than other indicators as it combines both quantity and quality. The overall ranking of top 25 Indian universities in social sciences give an indicative, if not nearly comprehensive, assessment of how the social science education is performing as generators of new knowledge. An analysis of 2074 papers indexed by Science Citation Index-Expanded and published by different countries on various aspects of Japanese Encephalitis (JE) during 1991 to 2010 indicates that JE is a highly collaborative discipline as judged by the values of co-authorship index and the collaborative coefficient for different countries and different sub-fields. Of the total published papers, about two-third were written in collaboration. Of these, 214 (10 %) were written with local collaboration, 700 (34 %) with domestic collaboration and 478 (23 %) with international collaboration. Among all the countries, USA is the most important partner country for all the collaborating countries. The study indicates that the share of collaborative papers increased almost four times in 2001-2010 as compared to 1991-2000. USA, Japan, Taiwan and India produced about 70 % of domestically co-authored papers. USA also had the largest number (21 %) of the internationally co-authored articles. Among 17 highly collaborative institutions, the highest (six) are from India, and Liverpool University (UK) had the highest number of internationally collaborative papers, followed by Centre of Disease Control and Prevention (USA). With concerns about climate change and its impact on the monsoon cycle over South Asia and its ramifications elsewhere on the globe, there has been renewed interest in the science behind the forces that drive the annual cycle and its variability from year to year and within the season. This is reflected in the growing research output in this area, particularly from India and China. In this paper, a comprehensive and in-depth bibliometric analyses that breaks down scholarly performance into three components - quantity, quality and consistency have been conducted. The citation data is retrieved from the Web of Science. The most productive organisations, countries, authors and also the most influential journals in which this newly emerging area is published using these criteria, with particular emphasis on the Indian contribution have been identified. Bradford's law is about scattering of literature in different information sources on a narrow subject. The present study serves as a test of the two formulations of Bradford's law, verbal and graphical, using 137120 articles published on Human-computer interaction (HCI) research in the journals index in Science Citation Index-Expanded during 1987-2011. The data is divided into five five-year spans so that comparisons can be made between the percentage errors for each five-year period. List of the core journals is also prepared for all the five blocks of five-year period. Number of journals and their titles in the core group indicates continuous change in focus in HCI research from one five-year block to the next. In addition, the applicability of Leimkuhler model was also tested with the present data. The objective of the study was to perform a scientometric analysis of all agriculture research publications by Indian scientists. With a growing number of urban tree inventory methods and diversifying use of tree inventory data by city authorities and researchers, there is a need to evaluate, review, and critically assess the inventory methods available. This study reviewed studies using urban tree inventories at single-tree level as their data source. Based on this, a bibliographic overview was established and a typology of contemporary urban tree inventory methods was created and used as a framework for evaluation and discussion of the measurement type and accuracy achievable with different methods. The authors found that data from urban tree inventories are currently being employed in research with an increasing number of focuses across a geographical scope that spans all continents except Africa. Four main types of urban tree inventories were distinguished: satellite-supported methods, airplane-supported methods, on-the-ground scanning or digital photography, and field surveys. Compiling results across studies and evaluating the parameters collected by these inventory methods and their accuracy of measurement revealed that the technology itself and current data processing methods limit the reliability of the data obtained from all methods except field surveys. IFLA's FRBR (Functional Requirement for Bibliographic Records) has been widely accepted as providing a sound conceptual model for a new generation of bibliographic records. A lot of development has taken place in the field of cataloguing with the acceptance of FRBR. Changes of terminologies and concepts in the existing cataloguing codes are under way and even new cataloguing codes are being published. Although IFLA has designed this conceptual bibliographic model very recently for the versatile bibliographic universe of 21st century, the root of FRBR can be traced far back in the cataloguing of the 16th century. This paper is a study in search of the root of the literary unit concept on which the Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records (FRBR) has been devised. For this a thorough discussions has been made about the presence of the concept among the cataloguing codes of Anglo-American origin. Objective. To characterize the scientific output of the Revista Panamericana de Salud Pública/Pan American Journal of Public Health (RPSP) as a scientific publication of reference in the public health sector in the Americas. Methods. A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted based on the articles published in the RPSP from 1997-2012. Bibliometric indicators of productivity (documents published, languages, authorship, and indices of productivity and collaboration); impact (impact factor according to the SciELO Network, Journal Citation Report and SCImago); key words; and bibliographic references, their structure (document type and main nucleus of Bradford) and degree of obsolescence (Burton and Kebler half-life, and Price index), were analyzed. Results. A total of 2 815 articles with a median of 3 authors and 2 institutions per article were published. The percentage of original research articles increased in 2008-2012 compared to 2003-2007 and 1997-2002 (P < 0.001). The predominant language was Spanish, displaced by English in the last 5 years. A total of 88.76% of the key words referred to the Health Sciences Descriptors (DeCS) and had a public health and community orientation related to the Americas. The Burton and Kebler half-life of bibliographic references was 8 years, although it decreased to 5 years in 2012. The Price index was 20.47% and the nucleus of Bradford was made up of 20 mainstream journals. The percentage of self-citation was low (2.07%). Conclusions. The RPSP is an international publication with bibliometric indicators similar to those of the most representative Latin American health science journals, with improvements in the recent years studied that lead it to fully meet international publishing criteria. Purpose-- The study aims to quantify the scientific productivity of Physicists using Scientometric h-index and g-index indicators. Paper also identifies that h and g are complementary to each other and g =h (1.5 times of h). The most productive and highly cited physicists and their average citation per item at JNU are identified. Also the study enlists the best ten high impact papers published during 2007-2011. Questionnaire was used to know research papers published (2007-2011) by the physicists at JNU. These papers were cross checked for originality, accuracy and completeness from web of science, Scopus, and by visiting journals online. Quantification of scientific productivity of physicists states that Satyabrata Patnaik occupies best three ranks in all categories which make him the high impact and most cited author among others. There is a variation in rankings according to different order h, g and g/h. The study helps to know the research trends of past and present scientific activities of Physicists at JNU. In view to measure the scientific temper of publication output and to examine the citation pattern in the area of social sciences, 1000 papers drawn from Science Direct Database from the period 2006-2010 for the present piece of study is experienced. In order to serve this purpose the focus has been centered on the analysis of trend of publications, citation and ranking patterns, and global publication profiles in the faculty of the study, and extensively, an attempt has been made to explore the strengths and weakness of different productive countries, affiliated organizations, and the most productive researchers, considering the quantum of their respective research publications. The core findings indicate that, the momentum in quantum of publication output and the participation of number of researchers in research and development has already been accelerated generally in social sciences, specifically, in Political Science at a vertical direction. USA has been proved as a most productive country with 52.6 and 44.8 per cent papers among 27 and 24 participative countries in both journals such as: 'CPCS' and 'ES'. Besides, the period 2006-2010 has identified as one of the most productive time zones having highest 62.8 and 57.5 percent papers contribution to each journal respectively. Additionally, it is noticed that, the single author publications are dominant in 1st journal 'CPCS', while a highest number of papers in 2nd journal 'ES' are found to be co-authored which is dominating over single authorship pattern. Nevertheless, the most participative institutions in publication in both journals are significantly representing to the highly productive country 'USA' is graced to be worthiest, as the study unfolds.
