In 2000, Pincott and Branthwaite published 'Nothing New Under the Sun?' which discussed the role of the internet in research both in terms of the hazards and opportunities this confers. Specifically, Pincott and Branthwaite argued that whilst the advent of the internet offers up new approaches and techniques, this must not be at the detriment of methodological rigour and standards we have grown accustomed to in the industry. In this paper, it is argued that the advent of big data, big qual and the emerging potential of the metaverse present new opportunities in research but pose the same questions originally conceived by Pincott & Branthwaite, 2000. Moreover, methodological rigour and standards are framed by three interconnected themes, namely, the role of data science and big data, the importance of softer skills of interpretation and narration and finally, the role of theory in elevating and grounding research. Business families directly participating in political roles have considerable influence in various countries. We explore political business families' unique economic and social characteristics through a social embeddedness lens. We build a comprehensive dataset of Chilean business families and identify their direct political participation from 1989 to 2020. We find limited support for economic features tied to political participation, whereas social characteristics, such as nationally rooted origins, religious affiliations, and family generation, are shared features of political business families. We extend the literature by analyzing how business families with greater social embeddedness act as legitimate representatives of the big business class in the state. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Research Summary: Platforms are often assumed to benefit firms, especially smaller ones, by facilitating access to a broader consumer base and increasing visibility. However, this logic relies on platforms" ability to match consumer preferences to complement characteristics. In addition to this matching mechanism, we posit that platforms also broker consumer attention towards complements, which then compete for this attention. We propose that this attention mechanism is particularly prominent in settings where complement characteristics cannot be observed ex‐ante, and argue that complementors' with larger scale and broader scope are better positioned to capture attention than smaller and less broad ones. We formalize and test this intuition in the context of news aggregators, highlighting the significance of complementors' ability to draw attention in evaluating their benefits from platform participation. Managerial Summary: Small firms are often assumed to benefit most from joining a platform to expand their market reach and visibility. However, this will only be the case if the main function of platforms is to match consumer preferences to product characteristics. We argue that platforms also direct attention towards some products at the expense of others on the platform. This "attention mechanism" is particularly important whenever product characteristics cannot be observed prior to consumption, and we propose that in such settings, larger scale and broader scope of products drive attention towards specific firms on the platform. We test these predictions in the context of online news aggregators, which feature news content by newspapers of different sizes and with different range of articles. We find that indeed large and generalist newspapers benefit most from being on a news aggregators, while small and focused newspapers perform better when they are not featured on the news aggregator at all. The aim is to outline the evolution of big capital as a social phenomenon and its relationship with state power in Ukraine, from its formation within the Soviet economic system until 2013. The upper chronological boundary is because the Revolution of Dignity and Russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine created fundamentally new socio-political conditions, particularly actualizing the real state course towards “deoligarchization”. The research methodology is based on modernization theory and the principle of historicism, using a problem-chronological approach. The novelty of the research lies in the fact that the formation and development of big capital in Ukraine are shown in specific historical conditions and as a result of the development of productive forces and socio-political processes in modern Ukraine. The main research results show that the formation of big capital took place on the basis of the Soviet industrial base, with certain elements already being fixed during the “late socialism” period in the USSR. The collapse of the communist party system and the rapid transition to a market economy manifested in the emergence of the phenomenon known as “red directors”. The further formation of big capital occurred in close interaction with representatives of the state administrative apparatus. At that stage, big capital effectively acted as a “junior partner” of the state. However, its socio-political weight began to increase in the early 2000s following a series of internal political crises. The peak of the influence of big capital occurred during the period of political instability from 2005 to 2008. After that, it began to decline rapidly under the influence of the global economic crisis of 2008—2009 and the authoritarian consolidation after 2010: at that time, big business largely returned to the role of “junior partner” of the state, except a number of financial-industrial groups most closely affiliated with or essentially merged with the top political leadership of the country. The socio-political transformations that occurred as a result of the Revolution of Dignity opened a new chapter in the relations between big capital and the state. Prospects for further research include tracing how the socio-political role of big capital changed as a result of the Revolution of Dignity and under the influence of Russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine, as well as in the context of the activation of state policy in the field of so-called “deoligarchization” after 2019. India's struggle for independence held the promise of an end to poverty and redemption from the communal‐cum‐class‐based inequality which had kept the peasant economy backward. But the planned substitution of the agrarian‐rural fabric for an industrial‐urban way of life failed to materialize. Casualization and contractualization of waged work indicated that labour had become thoroughly commodified in a state of ongoing footlooseness. It was a proletarianization which did not allow for the collective action precondition to raise and settle the social question. The onslaught of neoliberal capitalism in the last quarter of the 20th century ended the brokerage of the nation state to secure the interests of labour next to those of capital. Less than 10 per cent of the workforce has continued to enjoy formalized occupational engagement, mainly in the downgraded public economy. Corporate capital in collusion with statist autocracy has not only effectuated the deregulation of employment but also abandoned the legal code of formality. The outcome is a state of lawlessness for the people at the bottom of the pile. Besides big business, politics and governance are identified in this reconfiguration as stakeholders in a brutal regime of informality, erosive of equality, democracy, welfare and civil rights. This paper explores how social capital and property regulations shape cultural producers' ability to own copyrights for the products they create. Because individual producers lack the resources required to develop and distribute their creations, they partner with large firms who demand the copyrights for products they invest in. I argue two types of social capital—status and partner substitutability—enable producers to own their creations by increasing their bargaining power over the firms they partner with. Moreover, I propose that different types of property regulations condition whether status or partner substitutability have a stronger role in producers' ownership outcomes. Analyzing all shows made for American television from 1956 to 1996, I show that increases in showrunners' status and number of broadcasters they collaborated with increased the probability they owned shows they produced. However, the effects of these social capitals were contingent on the property regulations showrunners operated under. These findings advance our understanding of the allocation of copyrights, the power dynamics between creators and firms, and the effects of social capital in cultural industries. This paper analyzes this shift in the relationship between China and the United States, focusing in particular on the role of American corporations in shaping US geopolitical strategies with regard to China. Once aggressive promoters of economic integration with China, these firms now defend policies designed to block the growth of Chinese firms in Western markets and protect America's lead in critical emerging technologies. Throughout history, social change has often been shaped by highprofile legislation and through high-stakes litigation. But social change can also be spurred on through private contract, including through the agreements businesses and individuals make with each other every day. Transactional attorneys can promote social change through drafting techniques and choices, including narrative and storytelling techniques, and can use such drafting techniques in order to 1) write better and more complete agreements that are more consistent with business-led social activism already taking place, and 2) influence society by forcing counterparties to evolve on social issues, change industry practice, or foster a narrative for social change in society in general. This article begins with establishing a background overview on business-led social activism, describing recent efforts by large businesses to influence social policy, and provides a scholarship overview regarding how transactional drafters can use narrative theory and storytelling techniques in transactional documents. Combining these two elements, this article analyzes how transactional attorneys can employ narrative and storytelling techniques to promote social change in transactional documents. The article argues that by integrating narrative and storytelling techniques into transactional documents, transactional attorneys can increase the persuasiveness of transactional documents, align corporate statements with existing business-led social activism, and positively influence social change. International markets are extremely polarised, with a few big superstar businesses operating alongside numerous small competitors, and globalisation has been highlighted as a powerful force behind the superstars' increasingly dominant presence. The empirical literature has established that superstars are more efficient compared to their smaller counterparts, and, unlike them, they exhibit strategic behaviour. Building on this evidence, we develop a model to examine how an initial productivity advantage allows a select few firms to expand, via innovation, to the extent that it becomes optimal to adopt strategic behaviour, and show how polarised markets emerge endogenously as the unique subgame perfect equilibrium in pure strategies. We then introduce international trade and show that, in polarised markets, trade liberalisation puts into motion a novel composition effect, reallocating market share from smaller to larger rivals and raising large firms' profits. This effect suppresses the pro-competitive welfare gains from trade and cements the dominant position of big businesses, who come out as the big winners of globalisation. We find that, although trade increases welfare, by reducing average markup and markup heterogeneity, in the presence of a handful of large powerful firms, welfare gains are severely diminished, and subsidising smaller enterprises may turn out to be welfare-enhancing. Bumped from a flight? Relax with this defense of the big business practice of deliberately promising more services than one will provide. On a small scale, over‐promising yields a toxic moral dilemma and a lie. At a large scale, the dilemma becomes dilute, and the lie completely disappears. Overbooking is honest because there is a sufficiently high probability of fulfilling each promise. Overbooking is socially beneficial because the promised resources are used more efficiently. There are fewer wasted seats on jumbo jets and hence cheaper tickets with less pollution. Widespread disapproval of overbooking is a fallacious scaling error. We study how perceptions of corporate responsibility influence policy preferences and the effectiveness of corporate communication when agents have imperfect memory recall. Using a new large-scale survey of U.S. citizens on their support for corporate bailouts, we first establish that the public demands corporations to behave better within society, a sentiment we label "big business discontent." Using random variation in the order of survey sections and in the exposure to animated videos, we then show that priming respondents to think about corporate responsibility lowers the support for bailouts. This finding suggests that big business discontent influences policy preferences. Furthermore, we find that messages which paint a positive picture of corporate responsibility can "backfire," as doing so brings attention to an aspect on which the public has negative views. In contrast, reframing corporate bailouts in terms of economic tradeoffs increases support for the policy. Background: The commercial determinants of health is a rapidly expanding field of research; however Indigenous perspectives remain notably underrepresented. For Indigenous peoples the intersection of globalisation, colonialism and capitalism may amplify commercially-driven health inequities. This study aimed to explore the perspectives of Aboriginal leaders regarding the influence of commercial activities on Aboriginal health and wellbeing in Victoria, Australia. Methods: Semi-structured interviews with 23 Aboriginal leaders from across five sectors (n = 15 urban, n = 8 rural/regional) were analysed through reflexive thematic analysis. Results: Three overarching themes were identified encompassing (i) harmful commercial practices and processes, (ii) improving corporate engagement and (iii) opportunities for self-determination through business. Participants expressed concern over aggressive marketing by the gambling industry, commercial exploitation of Aboriginal culture, the privatisation of public services, and lack of oversignt of corporate social responsibility strategies. Simultaneously, Aboriginal-led businesses were viewed as opportunities for cultural connection, and financial empowerment and self-determination. Conclusion: Numerous commercial entities and activities are perceived to influence Aboriginal health and wellbeing. This study highlights the need for stronger policy and regulation to mitigate harmful industry practices while incentivising the potential positive impacts of the commercial activities on Aboriginal health and wellbeing. In the context of Big Data and Business Intelligence, how to timely mine customer requirements (CRs) and accurately incorporate them into product design is of great significance, while the research concerning this issue is relatively scarce. The purpose of this study is to develop an integrated decision framework with sentiment analysis and optimisation model for customer-oriented product design. In the framework, CRs are firstly extracted by the proposed crawling and mining algorithms, and then they are transferred into corresponding product features (PFs) and product feature specifications (PFSs) based on the idea of QFD. Next, through the consideration of the customer sentiments and the psychological and behavioural factors, the achievements of PFSs towards CRs are measured. Further, a multi-objective product design optimisation model is constructed to generate desirable design schemes. The proposed framework is applied in the design of elderly smart bracelets. Since the finance industry is transforming into a data industry, measuring the quantity of data investors have about various assets is important. Informed by a structural model, we develop such a cross-sectional measure. We show how our measure differs from price informativeness and use it to document a new fact: data about large high-growth firms is becoming increasingly abundant, relative to data about other firms. Our structural model offers an explanation for this data divergence: large high-growth firms' data became more valuable, as big firms got bigger and growth magnified the effect of these changes in size. This article develops the attention-based view of crises. Crises implicate the failure of structures that shape attention throughout a system and initiate attempts to transform these structures. As crises are so influential, case studies of crisis provide rich details from which to build theory. Synthesizing insights from 80 qualitative case studies of crises, we build a theoretical framework that revitalizes scholarly understanding of how structure and attention relate in today's complex systems. This framework reveals how everyday social practices instantiate structure, compose systems, and shape the quality of attention, such that practices constitute both a source and solution to crises. Understanding the systemic nature of attention through practices might therefore advance our collective capacity to face crises. It also contributes more broadly to ongoing conversations about how to apply the attention-based view in today's world, where important organizations look less and less like traditional big businesses, notions of structure implied by formal organization charts are diminishingly relevant, and the quality of attention matters more than its quantity. In the era of Industry 4.0, characterized by transformative technological advancements reshaping manufacturing processes, big data has become a common practice in business intelligence. It encompasses the use of data with advanced analytics techniques and plays an important role in business aspects and customer choice. In this context, the primary goal of this research is to comprehend the relationship between big data and the competitiveness of businesses. The research is based on a review of 83 articles published on the Web of Science in the period 2016 and 2023. Through cluster analysis, four groups of research categories are identified in this area (big data and AI in Industry 4.0, analysis of data for decision-making, big data and business innovation, and Internet of Things as a data source). The practical implications of this research are pertinent to organizational management activities involving innovation processes and decision-making, with direct implications for small and midsize enterprises competitiveness. On a theoretical level, the identified categories provide a framework for future research in understanding the connection between big data and competitiveness in the context of industry 4.0. Carved out of the jungle by American big business, Penn Museum's project at Tikal to restore massive pyramids and showcase Maya civilization was a direct outgrowth of government, military, and corporate connections. The story of Pennsylvania in the Petén is about American involvement in developing tourism, infrastructure, research stations, training, and the making of Guatemalan heritage citizens. It is also about increasing US government vigilance south of the border after the 1954 CIA-backed coup, whether in forging anti-communist alliances or commercial concessions. Philanthropists supporting Tikal were themselves representatives from US banking, oil, agriculture, aviation, and tourism sectors, making it impossible to disentangle archaeology from industrial and political adventurism. Extractive economies involving archaeology, oil, chicle, and bananas all ferried equipment and products back and forth to the Petén via American boats and planes, along dirt roads and airstrips built by American firms. Sold as the first great city of the Americas and costing almost a million dollars, the resurrection of Tikal underlines the ineluctable dependencies between security, espionage, international politics, corporations, conservation, and donor economies. Abstract Why would an emerging market economy without Western democratic institutions provide and promote social welfare to its citizens? This paper explores the driving forces behind the rapid yet unequal expansion of social welfare in China, a phenomenon notable since the late 1990s. Rather than adhering to the conventional state-centered approach that views welfare expansion as a strategy for one-party regimes to seek legitimacy, this study offers an alternate perspective that emphasizes the ‘demand’ side, particularly the role of business. Through a systematic analysis of all 336 Chinese municipalities from 2001 to 2012, the study demonstrates how big businesses act as ‘vanguard,’ pushing local governments to enhance social welfare provision. It suggests that big businesses, in the absence of institutionalized democratic institutions, serve as ‘functional equivalents,’ channeling societal demands to the government. This paper also finds that firms’ influence on social policy in non-democracies is more capability based instead of institutional based; large domestic and multinational corporations are more capable in lobbying the government.

A widespread sense of the unsustainability of the food system has taken hold in recent years, leading to calls for fundamental change. The role of animal agriculture is central to many of these debates, leading to interest in the possibility of a "protein transition," whereby the production and consumption of animal-derived foods is replaced with plant-based substitutes or "alternative proteins." Despite the potential sustainability implications of this transition, the developmental trajectories and transformative potential of the associated technologies remain underexplored. This article sheds light on these dynamics by addressing two questions: 1) how have alternative protein innovations developed over the past three decades, and 2) what explains their more recent acceleration? To answer these questions, the article makes an empirical analysis of four alternative protein innovations, and the partial destabilization of the animal agriculture system between 1990 and 2021, guided by the multi-level perspective. The analysis highlights an intensification in corporate engagement with alternative protein development and diffusion. This intensification is judged to be consistent with the beginnings of a wider corporate reorientation, occurring alongside a rise in pressures on the animal agriculture system, notably an increasing scientific consensus and societal awareness of the links between climate change and meat-intensive diets. The paper demonstrates how differences in technological maturity across the niche innovations have resulted in potentially transformative pressures, which are consistent with an emerging sustainability transition, manifesting differently in terms of the extent of diffusion of the alternative protein niches. Gading Serpong area is developing into a center of business, lifestyle, health and education then office buildings, worship facilities, culinary centers to meet the needs of housing and investment for residents of the capital and its surroundings. The culinary business is currently a big business and attracts many people because they like culinary and want to try local food from other regions and has high profit potential. The Bangka Culinary Business in Gading Serpong with several existing stores has continued to grow since 2018 coupled with the occupancy and community around so the need for a variety of foods has also increased. This study used interviews as an instrument conducted CitaRasa, Bakmi Bangka Asoka 57, Otak-Otak Ase, and the interview guide was made based on the research objectives. This research method uses qualitative methods, the method of collecting data by searching for articles and conducting interviews using keywords that match this research, namely culinary business, Bangka Gading Serpong culinary, and Bangka Belitung food. The results of this research conducted by interviews that Bangka Culinary first opened in 2017 through a shop because at that time there were no Bangka cuisine rivals in Gading Serpong. The development of Bangka's culinary business continued to grow rapidly from 2018 until now because many are in demand by various groups of people. This research aims to explain wants to explain the development of Bangka culinary business in Gading Serpong so that Bangka culinary is increasingly recognized by the public because of its delicious taste. The contribution and continuing relevance of Kalecki's paper on 'Political aspects of full employment' on the 80th anniversary of its publication is the central topic. There are five sets of important and interrelated ideas in Kalecki's paper. Full employment was feasible under capitalism from the perspective of securing a high level of demand through government spending. There would be resistance, particularly from business and finance to prolonged full employment, and there are political and social constraints on long-term full employment. Fascism had secured full employment through its relationships with big business and reducing the political obstacles. A political business cycle with full employment achieved at best at the top of the cycle could be generated. The role of 'fundamental reforms' in sustaining full employment under capitalism, and the 'fate' of fundamental reforms is reviewed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article asks how Germany could have pursued a far-reaching 'National Industrial Strategy 2030' despite the fierce opposition of German industry. To resolve this puzzle—which realist-inspired and institutionalist analyses struggle with—it deploys a critical state theory attuned to the uneven and combined development of global capitalism. The twin challenge of China catching up and the US forging ahead has not only prompted German officials to develop a 'defensive-mercantilist' response; new qualitative and quantitative evidence indicates that it has also deepened conflicts within Germany's export industry. Small and large firms are divided over how to respond to the growing lead of US capital in the digital economy, and its major sectors have experienced Chinese inroads into high-tech manufacturing differently. I argue that the German state was/is able to advance its industrial strategy insofar as it reconciles these divergent interests. First, it has offered laxer EU cartel rules to big business and enhanced protection from digital oligopolies to the Mittelstand, in exchange for tighter foreign direct investment controls. And second, I suggest that it could win over the chemical and electrical industry, through selective state subsidies, to its plans to re-shore transnational value chains in the name of 'technological sovereignty'. The purpose of this article is to find a relationship between the organizational architecture and technological architecture for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMES) in Tehuacán city, which is a medium size town at southeast of México city, according to two aspects, the first is to know how much the businessmen are educated to apply tactics for industry 4.0 on order to gain competitiveness, based in their perceptions; and the second is, what have they done to make some implementation in their facilities to reach better productivity. The methodology used in this work is a survey for 574 business, through a questionnaire with answer options in Likert scale. The results exhibit that there is high knowledge about the industry 4.0, and the most of the firms which are made implementations are related to Trade, Manufacturing, Construction and Restaurants. The pandemic caused by the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus has compelled many companies to prioritize innovation strategies in order to survive. Consequently, this cross-sectional empirical study employed a quantitative approach to assess the level of innovation achieved through frugal innovation practices by micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in the post-pandemic era in the state of Guanajuato, Mexico. A survey-type questionnaire was randomly administered to a sample of 58 companies. Stepwise discriminant analysis, utilizing Wilks' Lambda method, was applied to analyze the data. The results demonstrate that, during the crisis, the most influential variables in explaining the level of innovation are the significant reduction in the price of products or services and their durability, both regarded as frugal innovation practices. Consequently, decision-makers should establish frugal ecosystems that enable cost reduction while emphasizing the functionality and performance of their products or services. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: This paper examines the events and conditions that led to the creation of the International Clinical Trials Registry Platform (ICTRP) in 2006 by the World Health Organization (WHO), and how the WHO addressed the issue of transparency in global pharmaceutical research. Using historical textual analysis, I trace the scientific debates that advocated for the establishment of official clinical trial registries in medical journals, and the sequence of actions following the GSK Paxil scandal in 2004, identifying the major ethical and scientific arguments that led to the involvement of the WHO as a key actor in trial registration in the context of the Big Pharma business model. Results: Through the questions "Why register?" and "Why registries?" as a roadmap, I examine the issues of publication bias and selective reporting by the industry, scrutinizing two ways in which the practice of publication bias damaged transparency in industry-sponsored research. The first involved ethical concerns regarding human subject exploitation and concealing of negative results. The second addresses the deterioration of the certainty of evidence due to incomplete access to trials results. By reviewing the series of events that occurred between 2004 and 2006 –between the Paxil scandal and the launch of the ICTRP—, I analyze the actions taken by the different actors involved: (1) the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) and the creation of the Ottawa Group; (2) the WHO, beginning with the Ministerial Summit on Health Research held in November of 2004, and (3) the responses of the pharmaceutical industry and specifically GSK to the call for transparency and trial registration. Conclusions: The history of trial registration through the ICTRP as a dataveillance apparatus shows the difficulty of regulating a health enterprise turned into a global business. Moreover, it shows the challenges of globalization and how easier and faster it is to globalize business compared to good practices, raising the question of why it has been so hard to undo these trends. This article explores the economic policies of Sovrybflot, the Soviet fishing fleet, which was consolidated in 1965 within the USSR Ministry of Fisheries and oriented to a maritime fishing framework of 200-mile exclusive economic zones, implemented by the United Nations. The present study, which draws on accounting records and other primary documents held in the Russian State Archive of the Economy, argues that the Red Multinational Sovrybflot enlarged the USSR's economic impact on fisheries and helped to create Red Globalisation. However, Sovrybflot acted in the global market under the financial parameters established by Soviet accounting practices, which produced discrepancies (covered by the state) between planned and real losses. The dissolution of the USSR, combined with the privatisation of Sovrybflot and the loss of public financial support, led to a decline in the Soviet maritime and fishing presence worldwide and forced the company into bankruptcy. The article challenges the prevailing theory that U.S. antitrust institutions have been exclusively captured by big business. It argues against a simplistic narrative by highlighting historical periods when antitrust policies were both favorable and unfavorable to big business. It introduces an alternative perspective, suggesting a "political settlement" among interest groups that shapes antitrust policy toward inclusive economic growth.

Why would an emerging market economy without Western democratic institutions provide and promote social welfare to its citizens? This paper explores the driving forces behind the rapid yet unequal expansion of social welfare in China, a phenomenon notable since the late 1990s. Rather than adhering to the conventional state-centered approach that views welfare expansion as a strategy for one-party regimes to seek legitimacy, this study offers an alternate perspective that emphasizes the 'demand' side, particularly the role of business. Through a systematic analysis of all 336 Chinese municipalities from 2001 to 2012, the study demonstrates how big businesses act as 'vanguard,' pushing local governments to enhance social welfare provision. It suggests that big businesses, in the absence of institutionalized democratic institutions, serve as 'functional equivalents,' channeling societal demands to the government. This paper also finds that firms' influence on social policy in non-democracies is more capability based instead of institutional based; large domestic and multinational corporations are more capable in lobbying the government. The article discusses the expediency of a rating assessment that takes into account the cooperation of large companies operating in Russia with social entrepreneurs. The current situation in Russia demonstrates the lack of the cooperation and the great need for the support of social enterprises from big business. Purpose. Determine the possibility of big businesses and social entrepreneur’s cooperation in ratings. Results. Analysis of the methodology of the most reputable organizations/rating agencies (assessing big businesses) operating in Russia shows that the goals of rating agencies are related to identifying the best charitable programs, best practices of corporate social policy of companies, and their social orientation, the best managers of large companies in the field of corporate social responsibility and informing the public about the activities of companies. Conclusions. The analysis of the methodology also showed that there are nominations and indicators that could take into account the interaction of companies with social entrepreneurs. In particular, sustainable development, corporate social responsibility of the company, including charitable activities and activities to preserve environmental well-being can be assessed taking into account interaction with social enterprises. Social entrepreneurs can offer their cooperation to big business in the implementation of social projects from which big business, social enterprises and society can benefit. Big business could play the role of supporting social entrepreneurship, participating in the development of social business and creation of new jobs in the region.

The term stoic pragmatism was coined by John Lachs for a theory and practice of the good life in individual, social, and cultural contexts. My intention is not only to promote this interesting idea but also to develop it at some points. In the first instance, I propose something that we may call digital-culture public intellectual as a way for stoic pragmatists to be more visible with their teachings nowadays. Indirectly, and at least to some degree, stoic pragmatists may contribute to the task of the humanization of cyberspace despite its massive algorithmizing according to the Big Tech business models. Football is big business, yet for most top clubs in Europe and particularly those in the English Premier League, match day income is not the core part of their business. To improve their earning power, clubs increasingly operate as brands. With much of the brand experience delivered in digital form, many clubs are updating traditional crests or rebranding entirely for this platform. With a focus on the redesign and use of club crests; the role of graphic heritage in the design of these; and the different approaches to rebranding in football, this article asks whether a brand and its associated visual identity are designed or utilized differently in football and, that if football clubs are positioned as a brand, could the club crest ever be considered a logo?
