Music and language are unique communication tools in human society, where stress plays a crucial role. Many studies have examined the recognition of lexical stress in Indo-European languages using beat/rhythm priming, but few studies have examined the cross-domain relationship between musical and linguistic stress in tonal languages. The current study investigates how musical stress and lexical stress influence lexical stress recognition in Mandarin. In the auditory priming experiment, disyllabic Mandarin words with initial or final stress were primed by disyllabic words or beats with either congruent or incongruent stress patterns. Results showed that the incongruent condition elicited larger P2 and the late positive component (LPC) amplitudes than the congruent condition. Moreover, the Strong-Weak primes elicited larger N400 amplitudes than the Weak-Strong primes, and the Weak-Strong primes yielded larger LPC amplitudes than the Strong-Weak primes. The findings reveal the neural correlates of the cross-domain influence between music and language during lexical stress recognition in Mandarin.

Abstract Natural products-coordinated metal ions to form the nanomedicines are in the spotlight for cancer therapy. Some natural products could be coordinated with metal ions forming nanomedicines via simple and green environmental self-assembly, which not only improved the bioavailability of natural products, but also conferred multiple therapeutic modalities and multimodal imaging. On the one hand, in the weak acidity, glutathione (GSH) and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) overexpression of tumor microenvironment (TME), such carrier-free nanomedicines could be further enhanced the therapeutic effect via optimizing the species of metal ions. On the other hand, nanomedicines could exert the precise treatment of tumor under the guidance of multiple imaging. Hence, this review summarized the research progress in recent years on the application of natural product-coordinated metal ions in cancer therapy. In addition, the prospects and challenges for the application of natural product-coordinated metal ions were discussed, especially how to improve targeting ability and stability and assess the safety of metal ions, so as to facilitate the clinical translation and application of natural product-coordinated metal ions nanomedicines. In order to explore the best packaging form and storage method of rice-wheat mixed steamed bread, the effects of breathable packaging, deoxidized packaging and sealed packaging on the quality of rice-wheat mixed steamed bread were studied by analyzing the microbial content, moisture content, texture characteristics and sensory properties of steamed bread after steaming. The results showed that the moisture content, elasticity and hardness of steamed bun were the fastest, and the sensory score was the lowest. In the whole storage, the moisture content and hardness of deoxidized steamed bread were slightly less than that of sealed steamed bread, and the elasticity was greater than that of sealed steamed bread. When stored at 25 ℃, the total number of bacterial colonies in aerated, deoxidized and sealed steamed buns exceeded 6 lg CFU/g at 1, 6 and 3 d, respectively. The mold count exceeded the national standard GB/T 21118-2007 200 CFU/g on days 2, 5 and 4, and the sensory quality deteriorated on days 1, 3 and 5. When stored at 4 ℃, sealed, deoxidized and breathable steamed buns were stored at 8, 14 and 12 days, respectively, the total number of colonies exceeded 6 lg CFU/g at 8, 14 and 12 days, the mold count exceeded GB/T 21118-2007 200 CFU/g at 10, 12 and 10 days, and the sensory quality deteriorated at 8, 12 and 10 days. Therefore, the low-temperature storage form of deoxidized packaging makes the steamed bread have better storage quality.

Abstract To explore the formula for calculating the haemoglobin glycation index (HGI) in an appropriate Chinese population. Evaluating the applicability of the HGI calculation formula proposed by Hempe et al. in the Chinese population; according to the data from CHARLS 2011, 10,587 self-reported nondiabetics aged 20 years and older were selected as the study subjects, regression equations were constructed to fit the linear relationship between HbA1c and FPG in the population, and the profile characteristics of the resultant population were analysed. The standardized HGI formula put forth by Hempe and colleagues has been found unsuitable for application to the Chinese population. Leveraging CHARLS dataset, we derive a novel HGI calculation formula tailored to the Chinese demographic: HGI = Measured HbA1c-Predicted HbA1c, where Predicted HbA1c = 0.011×FPG + 4.032. We found statistically significant differences in HGI among obese individuals; those with higher waist circumference, total cholesterol levels, LDL levels, diastolic blood pressure and those with lower HDL levels. The HGI calculation formula proposed using CHARLS data is more applicable to the Chinese population and can be used as a standardised HGI to Chinese.

Abstract Traditional English corpora mainly collect information from a single modality, but lack information from multimodal information, resulting in low quality of corpus information and certain problems with recognition accuracy. To solve the above problems, this paper proposes to introduce depth information into multimodal corpora, and studies the construction method of English multimodal corpora that integrates electronic images and depth information, as well as the speech recognition method of the corpus. The multimodal fusion strategy adopted integrates speech signals and image information, including key visual information such as the speaker’s lip movements and facial expressions, and uses deep learning technology to mine acoustic and visual features. The acoustic model in the Kaldi toolkit is used for experimental research.Through experimental research, the following conclusions were drawn: Under 15-dimensional lip features, the accuracy of corpus A under monophone model was 2.4% higher than that of corpus B under monophone model when the SNR (signal-to-noise ratio) was 10dB, and the accuracy of corpus A under the triphone model at the signal-to-noise ratio of 10dB was 1.7% higher than that of corpus B under the triphone model at the signal-to-noise ratio of 10dB. Under the 32-dimensional lip features, the speech recognition effect of corpus A under the monophone model at the SNR of 10dB was 1.4% higher than that of corpus B under the monophone model at the SNR of 10dB, and the accuracy of corpus A under the triphone model at the SNR of 10dB was 2.6% higher than that of corpus B under the triphone model at the SNR of 10dB. The English multimodal corpus with image and depth information has a high accuracy, and the depth information helps to improve the accuracy of the corpus.

Background and objective Pembrolizumab (PEM) has been shown to be effective in clinical trials for the treatment of advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), but clinical trials were based on cohorts of patients selected on specific criteria, and whether the findings are consistent with real-world patients is debatable. The aim of this study is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of PEM in the treatment of advanced NSCLC based on real-world data. Methods A retrospective collection of real-world data from patients with advanced NSCLC receiving PEM was conducted. Propensity score matching was used to eliminate inter-group differences and assess the efficacy and safety of PEM compared to chemotherapy. Results Among 450 matched patients, the incidence rates of any-grade adverse events were 79.87% in the PEM group and 86.71% in the chemotherapy group, while the incidence rates of grade ≥3 adverse events were 4.03% and 7.31%, respectively. The objective response rates were 48.63% for PEM and 36.00% for chemotherapy (P=0.011). The median progression-free survival was 15.5 months for PEM and 8.8 months for chemotherapy (P

Abstract Frictional vibration often occurs during sliding, commonly referred to as the stick-slip phenomenon. It is more likely to occur in the range of the Stribeck curve, where friction and velocity have negative gradient characteristics. In this study, ultrasonic vibration is applied to the metal/metal sliding friction pair which reduce both static and kinetic friction forces. The inhibition mechanism of ultrasonic vibration on the stick-slip phenomenon is investigated for a sliding pair moving at low velocities (0.05–1.0 mm/s) under the condition of dry friction and oil lubrication. Under the condition of dry friction, ultrasonic vibration reduces the slider’s friction force by up to 89%, and the displacement fluctuation by up to 61%, effectively inhibiting the stick-slip phenomenon. Under the condition of oil lubrication, the friction force fluctuates when driving at a constant velocity, and the displacement fluctuation also fluctuates with the change of driving velocities. After ultrasonic vibration is applied, the friction reduction of the slider changes greatly with the driving velocity, so that the inhibition effect of ultrasonic vibration on stick-slip phenomenon under oil lubrication condition is unstable.

Rhinovirus (RV) is a common pathogen that causes respiratory tract infection and can cause outbreaks in hospitals and welfare institutions. A cluster of respiratory diseases occurred in a primary school in Shenyang City, Liaoning Province, China, in 2022. In this outbreak, a total of 31 students had symptoms similar to those of upper respiratory tract infection, mainly cough and sore throat. Among them, 27 throat swabs were collected and identified for respiratory pathogens by TaqMan low-density array (TLDA), quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR), reverse transcription-nested PCR and whole-genome sequencing. Out of the 27 specimens, 24 tested positive for RV, and 21 RV viral protein 1 sequences were obtained, of which 15 (71.43%) were identified as RV-A49, while 2 RV-A20 and 4 sequences from 2 specimens were RV-A30 coinfected with RV-C15. In addition, one whole-genome sequence (WGS) of RV-A49 was obtained, and three unique amino acid mutations were found compared to 23 WGS of RV-A49 from GenBank. In conclusion, this outbreak of upper respiratory tract infection is caused by RV, mainly RV-A49.

Species of the spider genus Belisana Thorell, 1898 exhibit high diversity in Guizhou, southwestern China. Previously, only eight species of Belisana were recorded in Guizhou. In this study, nine new species are described from karst caves: Belisana bijie Wang, S. Li & Yao, sp. nov., B. liupanshui Wang, S. Li & Yao, sp. nov., B. majiang Wang, S. Li & Yao, sp. nov., B. nayong Wang, S. Li & Yao, sp. nov., B. qixingguan Wang, S. Li & Yao, sp. nov., B. xiuwen Wang, S. Li & Yao, sp. nov., B. yongcong Wang, S. Li & Yao, sp. nov., B. zhouxi Wang, S. Li & Yao, sp. nov., and B. zunyi Wang, S. Li & Yao, sp. nov. Belisana zhangi Tong & Li, 2007 is reported from Guizhou for the first time. In addition, a list of all species of Belisana from Guizhou is provided.

Abstract In response to the challenge of telomere attrition during DNA replication, cancer cells predominantly employ telomerase or, in 10–15% of cases, the alternative lengthening of telomeres (ALT). The intricate details of ALT, however, remain elusive. In this study, we unveil that the knockdown of lamina-associated polypeptide 2 alpha (LAP2α) in ALT cells results in telomere dysfunction, triggering a notable increase in ALT-associated hallmarks, including high frequencies of PML bodies (APBs), C-rich extrachromosomal circles (C-circles), and telomere sister chromatid exchange (T-SCE). Furthermore, LAP2α emerges as a crucial player in break-induced telomere replication for telomerase-positive cells following telomeric double-strand breaks. Mechanistically, our investigation suggests that LAP2α may influence the regulation of the heterochromatic state of telomeres, thereby affecting telomeric accessibility. In line with our findings, LAP2α expression is markedly reduced in ALT-positive osteosarcoma. And the use of methotrexate (MTX) can restore the heterochromatin state altered by LAP2α depletion. This is evidenced by a significant inhibition of tumor proliferation in ALT-positive patient-derived xenograft (PDX) mouse models. These results indicate the important role of LAP2α in regulating ALT activity and offer insights into the interplay between lamina-associated proteins and telomeres in maintaining telomere length. Importantly, our findings may help identify a more appropriate target population for the osteosarcoma therapeutic drug, MTX.

Background and objective: Few studies on endoscopic management of primary obstructive megaureter (POM) in adult patients have been reported. Our objective was to describe our technique and long-term outcomes for endoscopic management of adult POM. Methods: We included 76 adult POM patients undergoing endoscopic management between September 2015 and January 2024. Under endoscopic control, the stricture was dilated to 24–30 Fr while maintaining a balloon pressure of 25–35 atm for 3 min. An additional incision of the stenotic ring using either an electrode or holmium laser was performed in 39 patients. Data for patient characteristics, intraoperative variables, surgical complications, and follow-up results were analyzed. A descriptive statistical analysis was performed. Surgical success was defined as no tubes or stents in the body, stable or improved symptoms and renal function, and the absence of reflux or obstruction during the follow-up period. Key findings and limitations: All procedures were completed without conversion to open or laparoscopic surgery. The median operative time was 45 min (range 16–165) with median estimated blood loss of 2 ml (range 0–150). The median postoperative hospital stay was 3 d (range 1–15). No intraoperative complication occurred. At median postoperative follow-up of 42 mo (range 3–100) the overall success rate was 92.1%. Restenosis of the vesicoureteral junction (Clavien-Dindo grade III) occurred in five patients (6.6%), and high-grade vesicoureteral reflux occurred in one patient (1.3%), all of whom required secondary reconstruction surgery. Conclusions and clinical implications: The results indicate that our endoscopic management for adult POM is safe and effective, with favorable long-term outcomes. This approach could potentially serve as a first-line treatment option for adult POM. Patient summary: Primary obstructive megaureter (POM) occurs when the flow of urine is blocked because of a narrow segment in the tube between the kidney and bladder (ureter), which causes widening of the ureter further up. For our minimally invasive technique, a telescope is inserted through the urethra and bladder to reach the ureter for surgical treatment. Our results show that this is a safe procedure for POM in adults.

ObjectiveTo analyze the effects of stachyose on the structural composition and metabolic pathways of gut microbiota in children with diarrhea using metagenomic sequencing technology. MethodsSix stool samples were collected from children with diarrhea admitted to a tertiary hospital from December 2021 to March 2022 using the direct selection method. The samples were inoculated into stachyose medium (STS group) and control medium (Ctrl group) using in vitro simulated fermentation technology. Fecal genomic DNA was extracted, and the effects of stachyose on the composition and diversity of gut microbiota were analyzed through metagenomic sequencing. At the COG and KEGG metabolic function levels, PCoA analysis was performed to determine the contribution of dominant gut microbiota to KEGG functional pathways, and the correlations between metabolites and gut microbiota and KEGG metabolic pathways were analyzed. ResultsAlpha diversity analysis showed that except for the Simpson index (0.29, 0.24, P < 0.05), the differences in the Ace index (143.17, 127.00), Chao index (143.17, 127.00), and Shannon index (1.69, 1.79) between the STS and Ctrl groups were not statistically significant. The relative abundances of Bifidobacterium longum (0.06%), Ruminococcus (0.05%), and Lactobacillus salivarius (0.04%) were higher in the STS group than in the Ctrl group. PCoA analysis at the COG and KEGG metabolic function levels revealed that the differences between the two groups were statistically significant (P < 0.05). The STS group upregulated characteristic metabolic pathways such as purine metabolism, starch and sucrose metabolism, and galactose metabolism while downregulating the characteristic metabolic pathways of the Ctrl group. Compared with the Ctrl group, the increased abundance of microbiota in the STS group showed high contributions to metabolic functions related to KEGG level 3. Spearman's correlation coefficient analysis found close associations between metabolic products of gut microbiota and related gut microbiota and KEGG metabolic pathways. ConclusionStachyose can regulate the structural composition of gut microbiota in children with diarrhea, increase gut microbiota diversity, promote related metabolic functions, and produce more beneficial substances for the human body.

Abstract Background Cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) is a highly malignant, rapidly progressing tumor of the bile duct. Owing to its chemoresistance, it always has an extremely poor prognosis. Therefore, detailed elucidation of the mechanisms of chemoresistance and identification of therapeutic targets are still needed. Methods We analyzed the expression of MBD2 (Methyl-CpG-binding domain 2) in CCA and normal bile duct tissues using the public database and immunohistochemistry (IHC). The roles of MBD2 in CCA cell proliferation, migration, and chemoresistance ability were validated through CCK-8, plate cloning assay, wound healing assays and xenograft mouse model. In addition, we constructed a primary CCA mouse model to further confirm the effect of MBD2. RNA-seq and co-IP-MS were used to identify the mechanisms by how MBD2 leads to chemoresistance. Results MBD2 was upregulated in CCA. It promoted the proliferation, migration and chemoresistance of CCA cells. Mechanistically, MBD2 directly interacted with WDR5, bound to the promoter of ABCB1, promoted the trimethylation of H3K4 in this region through KMT2A, and activated the expression of ABCB1. Knocking down WDR5 or KMT2A blocked the transcriptional activation of ABCB1 by MBD2. The molecular inhibitor MM-102 targeted the interaction of WDR5 with KMT2A. MM-102 inhibited the expression of ABCB1 in CCA cells and decreased the chemoresistance of CCA to cisplatin. Conclusion MBD2 promotes the progression and chemoresistance of CCA through interactions with WDR5. MM-102 can effectively block this process and increase the sensitivity of CCA to cisplatin.

Abstract At the end of 2019, the world grappled with an unparalleled public health crisis due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which also precipitated a global economic downturn. Concurrently, material panic buying occurred frequently. To restore benign market order, the government instituted a series of interventions to stabilize the market. This scholarly exploration dives deep into evaluating the tangible impact of these governmental measures in Hubei, China, a region which found itself at the very epicenter of the epidemic in its onset phase. Existing papers often employ structured questionnaires and structural equation methods, with small samples and limited effective information. In contrast, we used a dataset of tens of thousands of entries and employed text analysis to maximize the extraction of valid information. Through a meticulous analysis of public feedback, our findings unveil several pivotal insights: (1) The news measures of materials have the best effect. Their effectiveness, in descending order, is ranked as: material sufficiency > authority effect > market supervision > appeal and guidance; (2) Government measures during the epidemic’s initial phase exhibited a delay. After the lockdown measures, the phenomenon of large-scale buying has been formed, and the relevant material news was released later; (3) A dual approach combining authority influence with material sufficiency yielded the most favorable results. In light of these findings, the paper concludes with tailored recommendations aimed at amplifying the efficacy of government-led public opinion interventions in future crises.

Abstract In this paper, a hybrid load frequency control (LFC) scheme is proposed for multi-area interconnected power systems to decouple the intricate double control objectives, by dividing all subareas into the responsible areas and the free areas. The LFC in the responsible area has the function of regulating both the local frequency and the tie-line power, while the control objective of the LFC in the free area is thus simplified to regulate the local frequency only. Then, addressing the complex network coupling and uncertain dynamics, an integrated LFC controller is proposed for the free areas, which consists of two parts, namely, the coupling attenuation baseline controller and the disturbance compensation controller. The coupling attenuation baseline controller satisfying the predefined bounded L2-Gain condition is derived based on the solution to a multi-player zero-sum differential game. Additionally, a novel generalized integral observer is designed to estimate the system’s integrated disturbance, and the corresponding disturbance compensation controller is derived. After that, the ultimately uniformly bounded (UUB) stability of the integrated LFC controller combining baseline controller and disturbance compensation controller is proven rigorously. Finally, the performance superiority of the proposed hybrid LFC scheme is validated by the simulations in challenging operating modes.

Abstract Background Cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) is a highly malignant tumor characterized by a lack of effective targeted therapeutic strategies. The protein UHRF1 plays a pivotal role in the preservation of DNA methylation and works synergistically with DNMT1. Posttranscriptional modifications (PTMs), such as ubiquitination, play indispensable roles in facilitating this process. Nevertheless, the specific PTMs that regulate UHRF1 in CCA remain unidentified. Methods We confirmed the interaction between STUB1 and UHRF1 through mass spectrometry analysis. Furthermore, we investigated the underlying mechanisms of the STUB1-UHRF1/DNMT1 axis via co-IP experiments, denaturing IP ubiquitination experiments, nuclear‒cytoplasmic separation and immunofluorescence experiments. The downstream PLA2G2A gene, regulated by the STUB1-UHRF1/DNMT1 axis, was identified via RNA-seq. The negative regulatory mechanism of PLA2G2A was explored via bisulfite sequencing PCR (BSP) experiments to assess changes in promoter methylation. The roles of PLA2G2A and STUB1 in the proliferation, invasion, and migration of CCA cells were assessed using the CCK-8 assay, colony formation assay, Transwell assay, wound healing assay and xenograft mouse model. We evaluated the effects of STUB1/UHRF1 on cholangiocarcinoma by utilizing a primary CCA mouse model. Results This study revealed that STUB1 interacts with UHRF1, resulting in an increase in the K63-linked ubiquitination of UHRF1. Consequently, this facilitates the nuclear translocation of UHRF1 and enhances its binding affinity with DNMT1. The STUB1-UHRF1/DNMT1 axis led to increased DNA methylation of the PLA2G2A promoter, subsequently repressing its expression. Increased STUB1 expression in CCA was inversely correlated with tumor progression and overall survival. Conversely, PLA2G2A functions as a tumor suppressor in CCA by inhibiting cell proliferation, invasion and migration. Conclusions These findings suggest that the STUB1-mediated ubiquitination of UHRF1 plays a pivotal role in tumor progression by epigenetically silencing PLA2G2A, underscoring the potential of STUB1 as both a prognostic biomarker and therapeutic target for CCA. To ensure optimal penetration in direct current (DC) argon tungsten arc welding, a method was proposed to recognize the molten pool penetration during molten pool oscillation under alternating cusp-shaped magnetic field (ACSMF). An arc discharge model is established to analyze the oscillation mechanism of the molten pool under ACSMF. The periodic variation of arc shape induces the periodic oscillation to establish a mapping relationship with the fluctuation of arc voltage waveform. At the excitation current of 3 A and frequency of 10 Hz, the arc voltage waveform undergoes abrupt changes at 1.26 V and 1.37 V, corresponding to the critical and the full penetration states, respectively. The errors in identifying moving penetration are 0.8 % and 0.7 %, with a full penetration weld, demonstrating a penetration rate of 100 %, indicating effective penetration recognition. Arc sensing technology for tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding under ACSMF is poised for gradual application in single-side welding and double-side forming of medium and thick plates. It is anticipated to evolve towards real-time identification technology for molten pool penetration monitoring.

Abstract After an RNA polymerase reaches a terminator, instead of dissociating from the template, it may diffuse along the DNA and recommence RNA synthesis from the previous or a different promoter. Magnetic tweezers were used to monitor such secondary transcription and determine the effects of low forces assisting or opposing translocation, protein roadblocks, and transcription factors. Remarkably, up to 50% of Escherichia coli (E. coli) RNA polymerases diffused along the DNA after termination. Force biased the direction of diffusion (sliding) and the velocity increased rapidly with force up to 0.7 pN and much more slowly thereafter. Sigma factor 70 (σ 70) likely remained associated with the DNA promoting sliding and enabling re-initiation from promoters in either orientation. However, deletions of the α-C-terminal domains severely limited the ability of RNAP to turn around between successive rounds of transcription. The addition of elongation factor NusG, which competes with σ 70 for binding to RNAP, limited additional rounds of transcription. Surprisingly, sliding RNA polymerases blocked by a DNA-bound lac repressor could slowly re-initiate transcription and were not affected by NusG, suggesting a σ-independent pathway. Low forces effectively biased promoter selection suggesting a prominent role for topological entanglements that affect RNA polymerase translocation.

Abstract The interlayer twist angle endows a new degree of freedom to manipulate the spatially separated interlayer excitons in van der Waals (vdWs) heterostructures. Herein, we find that the band-edge Γ-Γ interlayer excitation directly forms interlayer exciton in InSe/Sb heterostructure, different from that of transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) heterostructures in two-step processes by intralayer excitation and transfer. By tuning the interlayer coupling and breathing vibrational modes associated with the Γ-Γ photoexcitation, the interlayer twist can significantly adjust the excitation peak position and lifetime of recombination. The interlayer excitation peak in InSe/Sb heterostructure can shift ~400 meV, and the interlayer exciton lifetime varies in hundreds of nanoseconds as a periodic function of the twist angle (0°–60°). This work enriches the understanding of interlayer exciton formation and facilitates the artificial excitonic engineering of vdWs heterostructures.

Abstract The mineralization mechanism responsible for the fossilization of archaeological textiles in close proximity to metal artifacts presents a sophisticated preservation process at both macro and micro levels. This study examines archaeological textiles dating from 2200 BC to AD 1900, sourced from three distinct archaeological sites. The focus is on understanding the microstructural degradation of fibers within a specific burial environment and the preservation achieved through mineralization. These archaeological fibers of archaeological textiles exhibit morphological preservation in the immediate vicinity of copper-based objects. Utilizing tools such as a digital camera, scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive spectroscopy (SEM–EDS), high-resolution synchrotron-based microtomography (μCT), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), we examined fiber morphology, conducted elemental analysis, identified fiber types, and analyzed fiber characteristics. Our findings reveal the presence of smooth-surfaced wools and silks, fibers covered with calculi, and fiber impressions—all subjected to mineralization. These mineralized fibers can be categorized into three distinct stages of mineralization, each exhibiting varying carbon content. We inferred a correlation between mineralization rate and carbon content while also identifying mineralization density distribution on these textiles. Lastly, this study provides insights into the preservation states of textiles across three different mineralization stages, enriching our understanding of the deterioration of organic archaeological material.

Deep coalbed methane (CBM) has become one of the most significant potential sources of natural gas in China. However, the exploration and development of deep CBM in China is still in an initial stage, and its accumulation-forming characteristics require further study. Therefore, taking the No. 8 deep coal seam in the central-eastern region of Ordos Basin as an example, this study investigated the geologic characteristics of CBM accumulations to establish a numerical model. The evolution of the burial and accumulation of CBM in the area was reconstructed. The modeling results suggest that the No. 8 coal seam experienced continuous subsidence from the Late Cretaceous to the Triassic, alternating subsidence and uplift during the Jurassic, rapid burial throughout the Early Cretaceous, and continuous uplift since the Late Cretaceous. The coal reached its maximum maturity at the end of the Early Cretaceous. Furthermore, CBM generation in the region was divided into four stages of thermal events—biogenic and early thermogenic gas, cracking of light oil into gas, cracking of the remaining kerogen into gas, and hydrocarbon generation ceasing—which accelerated coal maturity and generation. The adsorption capacity presented an overall declining trend prior to the end of the Cretaceous, followed by a rapid increase since the Late Cretaceous. As for adsorption mass evolution, the CBM successively underwent unsaturated minor adsorption, unsaturated rapid-rising adsorption, saturated decreasing adsorption, and saturated rising adsorption. The in-situ gas mass was found to be controlled by a combination of generation, adsorption, and expulsion of hydrocarbons, with its present-day value being 9–29 × 104 t/km2 and the corresponding gas volume per ton of coal being 12–28 m3/t. Moreover, free gas evolution initially showed an increasing trend, followed by a decline, ultimately accounting for 11%–28% of the total gas content.

Abstract Background Accurate prediction of postoperative vault in implantable collamer lens (ICL) implantation is crucial; however, current formulas often fail to account for individual anatomical variations, leading to suboptimal visual outcomes and necessitating improved predictive models. We aimed to verify the prediction accuracy of our new predictive model for vaulting based on anterior and posterior chamber structural parameters. Methods This retrospective observational study included 137 patients (240 eyes) who previously underwent ICL surgery. Patients were randomly divided into the model establishment (192 eyes) or validation (48 eyes) groups. Preoperative measurements of the anterior and posterior chamber structures were obtained using Pentacam, CASIA2 anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT), ultrasound biomicroscopy, and other devices. Stepwise multiple linear regression analysis was used to evaluate the relationship between the vault and each variable (WL formula). The Friedman test was performed for the vaulting prediction results of the WL, NK (Ver. 3), and KS formulas (Ver. 4) in CASIA2 AS-OCT, as well as the Zhu formula and vault measurements. The proportions of prediction error within ± 250 μm per formula were compared. Results The predicted vault values of the WL, NK, KS, and Zhu formulas and vault measurements were 668.74 ± 162.12, 650.85 ± 248.47, 546.56 ± 128.99, 486.56 ± 210.76, and 716.06 ± 233.84 μm, respectively, with a significant difference (χ2 = 69.883, P = 0.000). Significant differences were also found between the measured vault value and Zhu formula, measured vault value and KS formula, WL formula and Zhu formula, WL formula and KS formula, NK formula and KS formula, and NK formula and Zhu formula (P NK formula (70.8%) > KS formula (66.7%) > Zhu formula (54.2%). Conclusions The WL formula, which considers the complexity of the anterior and posterior chamber structures, demonstrates greater calculation accuracy, compared with the KS (Ver. 4) and Zhu formulas. The proportion of absolute prediction error ≤ 250 μm is higher with the WL formula than with the NK formula (ver. 3). This enhanced predictive capability can improve ICL sizing decisions, thereby increasing the safety and efficacy of ICL implantation surgeries.

Freshwater crabs play essential roles in the well-functioning of the inland aquatic ecosystems. However, due to the lack of sufficient molecular resources, the study of freshwater crabs has been greatly hindered. In this study, the mitochondrial genome of Huananpotamon koatenense, a freshwater crab endemic to China, was sequenced for the first time. This mitogenome sequence is 15,528 bp long, and contains 13 protein-coding genes, 2 rRNA genes and 22 tRNA genes. Phylogenetic analyses based on 25 mitogenomes showed that H. koatenense was clustered with the known congeneric species of H. lichuanense.

Abstract The quantitative extraction and evolution stage identification of the Nitraria tangutorum nebkhas are the basis for the restoration of regional plants and the reconstruction of degraded ecosystems. In this paper, the Nitraria tangutorum nebkha in Dengkou County of China was taken as the research object. Through the spectral and texture information of Gaofen-2 satellite image, the quantitative extraction of Nitraria tangutorum nebkha area and coverage information was completed using methods of gray threshold method, mathematical morphology, FCLSU mixed pixel decomposition, kernel density spatial analysis; the current evolution stage of the Nitraria tangutorum nebkha was identified, and their spatial distribution characteristics were analyzed. The results showed that: (1) The user accuracy and mapping accuracy of Nitraria tangutorum nebkha extracted from Random Forest combined with object-oriented classification method were up to 90.32%. (2) The method proposed can achieve an accuracy of 93.76% in extracting the spatial position of Nitraria tangutorum nebkhas. (3) The evolution of Nitraria tangutorum nebkhas can be divided into three stages: embryonic or developmental stage, stable stage, and declining stage, with a proportion of 60.70%, 20.97%, and 18.33%, respectively; The Nitraria tangutorum nebkhas in the study area is mainly in their embryonic or developmental stage, and the proportion of Nitraria tangutorum nebkhas in the declining stage is also large. It can provide technical and theoretical support for the precise extraction of nebkhas in arid and semi-arid desert areas, the identification of their current evolutionary stages, and the study of their spatial distribution patterns.

With the continuous development of modified starch, people's demand for the functional characteristics, safety, and convenience of modified starch has increased significantly. Pre-gelatinized starch (PGS) is a type of starch modified by physical methods, which is a modified starch particle without obvious crystallization obtained by rapid dehydration and drying after starch gelatinization. PGS has a porous and hydrogen-bonded fracture structure, which has the advantages of good cold water solubility, strong water retention ability and high viscoelasticity. Cold water can be mixed into paste during application, eliminating the step of heating and gelatinization. Therefore, as a biodegradable raw material with excellent performance, PGS has important application value in the fields of flour products, low-temperature meat products, condiments and other leisure starch-based foods. This paper briefly introduces the definition, preparation methods, properties, and influencing factors of PGS performance, focuses on the current application status of PGS in starch-based foods, and points out the future research direction of PGS in the field of food, aiming to provide some references for promoting the application of PGS in the food industry.

Starch provides essential calories for the body's vital activities, but it usually has a high glycemic index. The digestion of starch tends to lead to a steep increase in blood sugar levels, insulin resistance and health risk. The digestibility of starch is related to its multi-scale structure. The regulations of starch digestibility can be achieved by altering its multi-scale structure through the modifications. However, the physical modification has received more and more attention due to its safety, simplicity and environmental friendliness. Based on this, the digestibility of starch is outlined. The relationship between the multi-scale structure and digestive properties of starch is analyzed. The digestive properties of starch regulated by physical modifications, such as hydrothermal treatment, microwave, extrusion, high-pressure homogenization, ultrasonic, cold plasma and physical encapsulation are reviewed. The future research directions on starch digestibility are also provided.

Abstract Background Lung cancer is a common cause of brain metastases, approximately 40% of patients with lung cancer will develop brain metastases at some point during their disease. Hypofractionated stereotactic radiotherapy (HSRT) has been demonstrated to be effective in controlling limited brain metastases. However, there is still no conclusive on the optimal segmentation of HSRT. The aim of our study was to explore the correlation between the HSRT dosage and its treatment effect and toxicity. Methods A retrospective analysis was conducted on patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) brain metastasis at Hangzhou Cancer Hospital from 1 January 2019 to 1 January 2021. The number of brain metastases did not exceed 10 in all patients and the number of fractions of HSRT was 5. The prescription dose ranges from 25 to 40 Gy. The Kaplan–Meier method was used for estimation of the localised intracranial control rate (iLC). Adverse radiation effects (AREs) were evaluated according to CTCAE 5.0. This study was approved by the Institutional Ethics Review Board of the Hangzhou Cancer Hospital (#73/HZCH-2022). Abstract Background The presence of depression related to an increased risk of all-cause and cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality has been reported. However, studies conducted on certain specific depressive symptoms are scarce. Our purpose was to assess the effect of both depressive symptoms scores and certain specific depressive symptoms on all-cause and CVD mortality. Methods In the present cohort study, all participants, aged 18 years or older, were enrolled in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) from 2005 to 2014. Depressive symptoms score was assessed using the validated 9-item Patient Health Questionnaire Depression Scale (PHQ-9), which ranges from 0 to 27, with a PHQ-9 score ≥ 10 diagnosed as depression. The outcome events were all-cause and CVD mortality, which were followed up from 2005 to 2014. The associations of both depressive symptoms score and certain specific depressive symptoms with all-cause and CVD mortality were examined by weighted multivariable proportional hazards models. Results A total of 26,028 participants aged ≥ 18 years were included in the statistical analysis, including 12,813 (49.2%) males and 13,215 (50.8%) females, with a mean (SD) age of 47.34 (18.86) years. During the 9.32 (3.20) years of mean (SD) follow-up, 3261 deaths were recorded, of which 826 were cardiovascular deaths. All-cause mortality was 16.87/1000 person-years in subjects with depression. In terms of CVD mortality, these figures were 4.53/1000 person-years. In the full model (model 3), elevated depressive symptoms scores were independently associated with an increased risk of all-cause mortality (Highest depression symptom score group: adjusted hazard ratio, 1.63; 95% CI 1.44–1.85) and CVD mortality (Highest depression symptom score group: adjusted hazard ratio, 1.73; 95% CI 1.34–2.24). All 9 specific depressive symptoms that make up the PHQ-9 were related to an increased risk of all-cause mortality. However, only 3 symptoms, including trouble sleeping or sleeping too much, poor appetite or overeating, and suicidal ideation, were no significantly associated with an increased risk of CVD mortality. Conclusions The elevated depressive symptoms scores were strongly associated with an increased risk of all-cause and CVD mortality in US adults. Furthermore, all 9 specific depressive symptoms were associated with high all-cause mortality. However, trouble sleeping or sleeping too much, poor appetite or overeating, and suicidal ideation might not increase the risk of CVD mortality.

PurposeThis meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the comparative diagnostic efficacy of Syndecan-2(SDC2) and Septin-9(SEPT9) in the early detection of colorectal cancer (CRC).MethodsWe searched PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library databases to identify available publications up to October 2024. A direct head-to-head comparator analysis were performed using the random-effects model. Subgroup analyses and corresponding meta-regressions focusing on sample source, number of patients, region, study design, and methylated detection methods were conducted. Intra-group and inter-group heterogeneity were assessed by Cochrane Q and I2 statistics.ResultsEleven articles involving 1,913 CRC patients and 2,851 healthy people were included in the meta-analysis. The sensitivity of SDC2 was similar compared to SEPT9 for CRC patients (0.67 vs. 0.71, p = 0.61), SDC2 has a similar specificity in comparison to SEPT9 for CRC patients (0.90 vs. 0.91, p = 0.86). In subgroup analysis, stool SDC2 was similar compared to stool SEPT9 for CRC patients (sensitivity of 0.81 vs. 0.80, p = 0.92; specificity of 0.93 vs. 0.91, p = 0.73), plasma SDC2 was similar compared to plasma SEPT9 for CRC patients (sensitivity of 0.57 vs. 0.72, p = 0.27; specificity of 0.90 vs. 0.89, p = 0.89). In the subgroup analysis of clinical staging for colorectal cancer (CRC), the results indicate that there is no significant difference in sensitivity between the two markers for both early (0.7 vs. 0.67, p = 0.64) and advanced (0.76 vs. 0.70, p = 0.23) stages of CRC.ConclusionIn our head-to-head comparison meta-analysis, it was found that SDC2 and SEPT9 have similar sensitivity and specificity in the diagnosis of colorectal cancer. However, this result may be influenced by high heterogeneity and further confirmation of this finding is needed through large-scale prospective studies.

Radiation exposure poses significant health risks, particularly in radiotherapy and nuclear accidents. Certain dietary ingredients offer potential radioprotection and radiosensitization. In this review, we explore the impact of dietary ingredients, including vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and other bioactive compounds, on radiation sensitivity and their potential for radioprotection. Radiosensitizers reoxygenate hypoxic tumor cells, increase the radiolysis of water molecules, and regulate various molecular mechanisms to induce cytotoxicity and inhibit DNA repair in irradiated tumor cells. Several dietary ingredients, such as vitamins C, E, selenium, and phytochemicals, show promise in protecting against radiation by reducing radiation-induced oxidative stress, inflammation, and DNA damage. Radioprotectors, such as ascorbic acid, curcumin, resveratrol, and genistein, activate and modulate various signaling pathways, including Keap1-Nrf2, NF-κB, PI3K/Akt/mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR), STAT3, and mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK), in response to radiation-induced oxidative stress, regulating inflammatory cytokine expression, and promoting DNA damage repair and cell survival. Conversely, natural dietary radiosensitizers impede these pathways by enhancing DNA damage and inducing apoptosis in irradiated tumor cells. Understanding the molecular basis of these effects may aid in the development of effective strategies for radioprotection and radiosensitization in cancer treatment. Dietary interventions have the potential to enhance the efficacy of radiation therapy and minimize the side effects associated with radiation exposure.

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) represents an autoimmune disorder that affects multiple systems. In the treatment of this condition, the focus primarily revolves around inflammation suppression and immunosuppression. Consequently, targeted therapy has emerged as a prevailing approach. Currently, the quest for highly sensitive and specifically effective targets has gained significant momentum in the context of SLE treatment. Lymphocyte activation gene-3 (LAG-3) stands out as a crucial inhibitory receptor that binds to pMHC-II, thereby effectively dampening autoimmune responses. Fibrinogen-like protein 1 (FGL1) serves as the principal immunosuppressive ligand for LAG-3, and their combined action demonstrates a potent immunosuppressive effect. This intricate mechanism paves the way for potential SLE treatment by targeting LAG-3 with FGL1. This work provides a comprehensive summary of LAG-3's role in the pathogenesis of SLE and elucidates the feasibility of leveraging FGL1 as a therapeutic approach for SLE management. It introduces a novel therapeutic target and opens up new avenues of therapeutic consideration in the clinical context of SLE treatment.

Background Renal microcirculation plays a pivotal role in kidney function by maintaining structural and functional integrity, facilitating oxygen and nutrient delivery, and waste removal. However, a thorough bibliometric analysis in this area remains lacking. Therefore, we aim to provide valuable insights through a bibliometric analysis of renal microcirculation literature using the Web of Science database.Methods We collected renal microcirculation-related publications from the Web of Science database from January 01, 1990, to December 31, 2022. The co-authorship of authors, organizations, and countries/regions was analyzed with VOSviewer1.6.18. The co-occurrence of keywords and co-cited references were analyzed using CiteSpace6.1.R6 software to generate visualization maps. Additionally, burst detection was applied to keywords and cited references to forecast research hotspots and future trends.Results Our search yielded 7462 publications, with the American Journal of Physiology-Renal Physiology contributing the most articles. The United States, Mayo Clinic, and Lerman Lilach O emerged with the highest publication count, indicating their active collaborations. ‘Type 2 diabetes’ was the most significant keyword cluster, and ‘diabetic kidney disease’ was the largest cluster of cited references. ‘Cardiovascular outcome’ and ‘diabetic kidney diseases’ were identified as keywords in their burst period over the past three years.Conclusion Our bibliometric analysis illuminates the contours of nephrology and microcirculation research, revealing a landscape ripe for challenges and the seeds of future scientific innovation. While the trends discerned from the literature emerging opportunities in diagnostic innovation, renal microcirculation research, and precision medicine interventions, their translation to clinical practice is anticipated to be a deliberate process.

AbstractObjectives This study aimed to analyze the survival outcomes and prognostic factors of radiofrequency ablation (RFA) for liver metastases from gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs).Methods Between March 2011 and November 2022, 34 patients (16 males; age range, 25–72 [median age, 52.5] years) who underwent RFA for liver metastasis from GISTs were included. The mean maximum diameter of metastatic lesions was 2.4 ± 1.0 (range, 1.1–5.2) cm. Survival curves were constructed using the Kaplan–Meier method and compared using the log-rank test. Multivariate analyses were performed using a Cox proportional hazards model.Results For 79 lesions among 34 patients, all targeted lesions were completely ablated. The mean hepatic progression-free survival (HPFS) period was 28.4 ± 3.8 (range, 1.0–45.7) months. The 1-, 3-, and 5-year HPFS rates were 67.2%, 60.5%, and 20.2%, respectively. Based on the univariate analysis, the number of metastatic tumors and tyrosine kinase inhibitors(TKI) therapy before RFA were prognostic factors for HPFS. Multivariate analysis showed that pre-RFA TKI therapy was associated with a better HPFS(p = 0.030). The mean overall survival (OS) period was 100.5 ± 14.1 (range, 3.8–159.5) months and the 1-, 3-, and 5-year survival rates were 96.9%, 77.1%, and 58.7%, respectively. Both univariate and multivariate analysis indicated that extrahepatic metastasis before RFA (p = 0.044) was a significant prognostic factor for OS.Conclusions Liver metastases from GIST exhibit relatively mild biological behavior. RFA is safe and effective, particularly in patients without pre-RFA extrahepatic metastases. Patients received targeted therapy before RFA can obtain an extended HPFS.

BackgroundMetabolic disorders are common in individuals with Turner syndrome (TS). Hyperuricemia is associated with metabolic syndrome. This study investigated the serum uric acid (SUA) profile in patients with TS.MethodsA retrospective observational study was conducted with 145 patients with TS. A total of 72 normal girls were in the control group from 2015 to 2024: 86 TS patients were treated with growth hormone (GH), 80 with stanozolol, and 52 with estrogen.ResultsHyperuricemia was present in 33.1% (47/145) of patients with untreated TS and in 16.67% (12/72) of the controls (P < 0.001). Multivariable linear regression analysis showed that BMISDS, fasting serum glucose, and eGFR explained 34.4% (model R2 = 0.344) of the total variation in SUA in the untreated TS group. SUA and SUASDS (SUA standard deviation score) levels generally showed a slow rising tendency with age. SUA increased significantly in the first year of stanozolol initiation (P = 0.032), while adding estrogen and stanozolol improved the lipid profile during the whole assessment period.ConclusionGirls with TS showed a slow rising tendency in SUA and SUASDS with age and had higher SUA and SUASDS levels and incidence of hyperuricemia compared to their healthy female peers. The independent risk factors for hyperuricemia in pediatric patients with TS were BMISDS, HOMA-IR, glucose, and eGFR. The incidence of hyperuricemia increased in the first year of stanozolol treatment.

Background: Endometriosis (EM) is a hormone-dependent condition marked by progressively severe secondary dysmenorrhea, significantly impacting patients' quality of life and overall health. Wen Jing Tang (WJT), a traditional Chinese medicinal formulation derived from the Synopsis of the Golden Chamber, has proven to be an effective therapeutic agent for EM. However, the precise molecular mechanisms underlying its efficacy remain unclear. Objective: This study aims to elucidate the underlying mechanisms of WJT in the treatment of EM by integrating network pharmacology analysis with experimental validation. Methods: The chemical constituents and target sites of WJT were obtained from the TCMSP database, while EM-related target genes were sourced from OMIM, TTD, GeneCards, and the DrugBank databases. A ''herbs-components-targets'' network was constructed using Cytoscape 3.9.1. The intersecting target genes of WJT and EM were then uploaded to the STRING database for protein-protein interaction (PPI) analysis. Subsequently, the common target genes were subjected to GO and KEGG enrichment analysis via the DAVID database. Molecular docking were employed to analyze the binding affinities between the top five core components and their respective targets. Additionally, ELISA were used to quantify the serum levels of IL-6, IL-1β, E2, and P in EM model rats. The expression levels of TNF-α, HIF1A, STAT3, and EGFR mRNA and proteins in ectopic endometrial tissue were assessed using q-PCR and Western blotting. Results: A total of 250 chemical components and 553 targets were identified in WJT, while 3491 EM-related targets were screened from multiple databases. Among these, 187 common targets between WJT and EM were found, with quercetin, kaempferol, and beta-sitosterol emerging as the core chemical components, and AKT1, IL6, TNF, and IL1B identified as the key targets. These core components demonstrated strong binding affinities to the targets. GO and KEGG enrichment analyses revealed that the shared targets were primarily involved in the HIF1 signaling pathway. Furthermore, compared to the control group, the EM model rats exhibited an increased ectopic endometrial area, disordered glandular and stromal cells, and notable inflammatory infiltration. Allergic reaction to the silicone is rare in children and as a result very little experience has been reported on symptom and treatment. We presented a case involving a child who experienced prolonged ascites following a surgery of placing an abdominal drainage tube, characterized by the ongoing drainage of clear, light-yellow fluid at a rate of 250 mL/day through the drainage tube for 36 days. Examination of the ascitic fluid revealed an abnormal elevation in eosinophil proportion, which exhibited positive response to anti-allergic treatment. Subsequent to the removal of the drainage tube, the ascites gradually resolved. In conclusion, we presented here the first and youngest case of allergic ascites associated with drainage tube after surgery of ovarian mucinous cystadenoma, it is imperative not to overlook the possibility of drainage tube allergy in the diagnostic process.

Abstract Intron retention (IR) constitutes a less explored form of alternative splicing, wherein introns are retained within mature mRNA transcripts. This investigation demonstrates that the cell division cycle (CDC)‐like kinase 2 (CLK2) undergoes liquid–liquid phase separation (LLPS) within nuclear speckles in response to heat shock (HS). The formation of CLK2 condensates depends on the intrinsically disordered region (IDR) located within the N‐terminal amino acids 1‐148. Phosphorylation at residue T343 sustains CLK2 kinase activity and promotes overall autophosphorylation, which inhibits the LLPS activity of the IDR. These CLK2 condensates initiate the reorganization of nuclear speckles, transforming them into larger, rounded structures. Moreover, these condensates facilitate the recruitment of splicing factors into these compartments, restricting their access to mRNA for intron splicing and promoting the IR. The retained introns lead to the sequestration of transcripts within the nucleus. These findings extend to the realm of glioma stem cells (GSCs), where a physiological state mirroring HS stress inhibits T343 autophosphorylation, thereby inducing the formation of CLK2 condensates and subsequent IR. Notably, expressing the CLK2 condensates hampers the maintenance of GSCs. In conclusion, this research unveils a mechanism by which IR is propelled by CLK2 condensates, shedding light on its role in coping with cellular stress.

BackgroundNon-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is now the most common cause of chronic liver disease. Studies have found that ezetimibe may be utilized as a supplemental treatment for NAFLD. Additionally, many clinical trials reported the potential impacts of ezetimibe on patients with NAFLD, although some conclusions remain controversial. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the effects of ezetimibe on patients with NAFLD.MethodOnline search was conducted across databases including PubMed, Embase, Scopus, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, Wanfang, VIP, and CNKI to retrieve all relevant controlled studies on the treatment of NAFLD with ezetimibe from the inception of the databases until April 2024. This meta-analysis comprised 10 randomized controlled trials (RCTs). Statistical analysis was conducted using the Meta package in R v4.3.2.ResultsA total of ten RCTs were included in this study, encompassing 578 patients (290 in the ezetimibe group and 288 in the control group) diagnosed with NAFLD/non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). The results indicated that ezetimibe significantly reduced levels of aspartate aminotransferase (P < 0.01), glutamyl transferase (γ-GT) (P < 0.01), total cholesterol (P < 0.01), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (P < 0.01), high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (P < 0.01), and interleukin-6 (P < 0.01), and markedly increased levels of glycated hemoglobin (P = 0.02).ConclusionsEzetimibe may partially improve transaminase levels and positively impact liver function in patients with NAFLD/NASH.Systematic Review Registrationhttps://www.crd.york.ac.uk/PROSPERO/, identifier CRD42023461467.

The use of potentially beneficial microorganisms in agriculture (microbial inoculants) has rapidly accelerated in recent years. For microbial inoculants to be effective as agricultural tools, these organisms must be able to survive and persist in novel environments while not destabilizing the resident community or spilling over into adjacent natural ecosystems. Despite the importance of propagule pressure to species introductions, few tools exist in microbial ecology to predict the outcomes of agricultural microbial introductions. Here, we adapt a macroecological propagule pressure model to a microbial scale and present an experimental approach for testing the role of propagule pressure in microbial inoculant introductions. We experimentally determined the risk-release relationship for an IAA-expressing Pseudomonas simiae inoculant in a model monocot system. We then used this relationship to simulate establishment outcomes under a range of application frequencies (propagule number) and inoculant concentrations (propagule size). Our simulations show that repeated inoculant applications may increase establishment, even when increased inoculant concentration does not alter establishment probabilities. Applying ecological modeling approaches like those presented here to microbial inoculants may aid their sustainable use and provide a monitoring tool for microbial inoculants.

Carbonaceous nanomaterials (CNMs) are widely used in electronics, biomedicine, agriculture, environmental remediation, and catalysis due to their excellent biocompatibility, high reactivity, and high specific surface area. However, the extensive applications of CNMs cause their inevitable release into water, which may result in toxic effects on the aquatic ecological environment and organisms. CNMs can cause lipid peroxidation damage and neurotoxicity in aquatic organisms, affecting embryo hatching and larval morphology. The effects of CNMs on aquatic organisms vary depending on their structures and physicochemical properties, as well as the species, age, and tolerance of the tested organisms. The above uncertainties have increased the difficulty of exploring the impact of carbonaceous nanomaterials on the toxicity of aquatic organisms to a certain extent. Solving these issues is of great significance and reference value for promoting the research and safe utilization of carbon nanomaterials. Therefore, a systematic review of the effects of potential toxicity of carbonaceous nanomaterials on aquatic organisms and their alleviation strategies is needed. This paper firstly summarizes the toxic effects of commonly used CNMs (i.e., carbon nanotubes, graphene, and fullerene) on different aquatic organisms, which include developmental toxicity, behavioral and metabolic toxicity, reproductive toxicity, and organ toxicity. Then the main mechanisms of CNMs to aquatic organisms are further explored, and the methods to reduce the toxicity of CNMs are also summarized. Finally, the current challenges and future perspectives for studying CNM toxicity to aquatic organisms are proposed.

Although oxidative stress is closely associated with tumor invasion and metastasis, its’ exact role and mechanism in the initial stage of oral cancer remain ambiguous. Glutamine uptake mediated by alanine-serine-cysteine transporter 2 (ASCT2) participates in glutathione synthesis to resolve oxidative stress. Currently, we firstly found that ASCT2 deletion caused oxidative stress in oral mucosa and promoted oral carcinogenesis induced by 4-Nitroquinoline-1-oxide (4-NQO) using transgenic mice of ASCT2 knockout in oral epithelium. Subsequently, we identified an upregulated gene Thbs1 linked to macrophage infiltration by mRNA sequencing and immunohistochemistry. Importantly, multiplex immunohistochemistry showed M1-like tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) were enriched in cancerous area. Mechanically, targeted ASCT2 effectively curbed glutamine uptake and caused intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) accumulation, which upregulated Thbs1 in oral keratinocytes and then activated p38, Akt and SAPK/JNK signaling to polarize M1-like TAMs via exosome-transferred pathway. Moreover, we demonstrated M1-like TAMs promoted malignant progression of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) both in vitro and in vivo by a DOK transformed cell line induced by 4-NQO. All these results establish that oxidative stress triggered by ASCT2 deletion promotes oral carcinogenesis through Thbs1-mediated M1 polarization, and indicate that restore redox homeostasis is a new approach to prevent malignant progression of oral potentially malignant disorders.

In response to the challenging task of accurately identifying the main hazard-causing layer of overlying strata in the coal mine surface hydraulic fracturing construction, this study focuses on the industrial test of ground hydraulic fracturing at the 401102 working face of the Mengcun Coal Mine. The research is conducted using the methods of theoretical analysis, microseismic monitoring, and on-site investigation to reveal the dynamic disaster mechanism of mine earthquakes and rock bursts induced by the movement of thick and hard overlying strata in the coal mines. The relationship between the movement characteristics of thick and hard overlying strata based on a three-zone structure loading model of overlying strata and induced dynamic disasters is analyzed, and a prediction model for mining seismic energy and an estimation model for equivalent additional stress in mining areas based on the movement state of key layers are established. A coal mine identification technology for the main hazard-causing layer of overlying strata is proposed based on the K-means clustering algorithm and the elbow rule. The construction layer for hydraulic fracturing is determined, and an industrial test is carried out on-site. The effectiveness is verified based on the microseismic monitoring data and theoretical analysis results, leading to the following conclusions. In the Mengcun Coal Mine’s 401102 working face, both the key stratum responsible for rock bursts and mine seismic activities can be traced to the R9 key stratum of the Anding Group, situated 66 meters away from the coal seam. The primary fracturing movement of this critical stratum R9 imparts an equivalent supplementary disturbance stress value of 7.23 MPa, with the seismic energy liberated by this initial rupture motion quantifying to 6.08×105 J, thereby indicating a pronounced susceptibility towards catastrophic occurrences. After fracturing the key layer which induces mining earthquakes and rock bursts, the theoretical value of the mine earthquake energy is reduced by 94%, and the theoretical value of the equivalent disturbance stress of the working face is reduced by 76%. High-energy microseismic events above the working face with an energy of 5×103 J show a noticeable upward trend, with an upward movement of approximately 15 m. The frequency ratio of microseismic events with an energy level of 103 J or higher significantly decreases from 60.39% to 17.89%, and the maximum microseismic event energy decreases from 6.65×105 J to 9.75×103 J. The proportion of microseismic events with an energy level of 102 J and below significantly increases from 39.61% to 82.11%.

Abstract Refraction is a basic beam bending effect at two media’s interface. While traditional studies focus on stationary boundaries, moving boundaries or potentials could enable new laws of refractions. Meanwhile, media’s discretization plays a pivotal role in refraction owing to Galilean invariance breaking principle in discrete-wave mechanics, making refraction highly moving-speed dependent. Here, by harnessing a synthetic temporal lattice in a fiber-loop circuit, we observe discrete time refraction by a moving gauge-potential barrier. We unveil the selection rules for the potential moving speed, which can only take an integer v = 1 or fractional v = 1/q (odd q) value to guarantee a well-defined refraction. We observe reflectionless/reflective refractions for v = 1 and v = 1/3 speeds, transparent potentials with vanishing refraction/reflection, refraction of dynamic moving potential and refraction for relativistic Zitterbewegung effect. Our findings may feature applications in versatile time control and measurement for optical communications and signal processing.

Abstract The current mature Simultaneous Localisation And Mapping (SLAM) algorithms, when applied to tunnel scenarios with point cloud degradation and poor lighting conditions, often lead to a sharp increase in the estimated attitude error of the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), or even prevent the UAV from moving autonomously due to severe feature degradation. To address the above problems, the authors propose a SLAM algorithm based on factor graph optimisation, Iterative Closest Point and Normal Distributions Transform algorithms. A front‐end point cloud registration module and a back‐end construction algorithm based on filtering and graph optimisation are designed. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, experiments are conducted on KITTI dataset and real tunnel scenes, and compared with LiDAR Odometry and Mapping (LOAM) and lightweight and ground optimised (LeGO)‐LOAM algorithms. The results show that the average processing time of the proposed method is about 75 ms, which can meet the real‐time requirements of autonomous aerial vehicles. Compared with LOAM and LeGO‐LOAM in the real tunnel experiment, the proposed method shows the tunnel 3D map construction.

Abstract Carboxylic acids are widely available and generally inexpensive from abundant biomass feedstocks, and they are suitable and generic coupling partners in synthetic chemistry. Reported herein is an electroreductive coupling of stable and versatile carboxylic acids with (hetero)arenes using protons as the hydrogen source. The application of an earth-abundant titanium catalyst has significantly improved the deoxygenative reduction process. Preliminary mechanistic studies provide insights into the deoxygenative reduction of in-situ generated ketone pathway, and the intermediacy generation of ketyl radical and alkylidene titanocene. Without the necessity of pressurized hydrogen or stoichiometric hydride as reductants, this protocol enables highly selective and straightforward synthesis of various functionalized and structurally diverse alkylbenzenes under mild conditions. The utility of this reaction is further demonstrated through practical and valuable isotope incorporation from readily available deuterium source.

Abstract Osteosarcoma is a primary malignant tumor that commonly affects children and adolescents, with a poor prognosis. The existence of tumor heterogeneity leads to different molecular subtypes and survival outcomes. Recently, lipid metabolism has been identified as a critical characteristic of cancer. Therefore, our study aims to identify osteosarcoma's lipid metabolism molecular subtype and develop a signature for survival outcome prediction. Four multicenter cohorts—TARGET-OS, GSE21257, GSE39058, and GSE16091—were amalgamated into a unified Meta-Cohort. Through consensus clustering, novel molecular subtypes within Meta-Cohort patients were delineated. Subsequent feature selection processes, encompassing analyses of differentially expressed genes between subtypes, univariate Cox analysis, and StepAIC, were employed to pinpoint biomarkers related to lipid metabolism in TARGET-OS. We selected the most effective algorithm for constructing a Lipid Metabolism-Related Signature (LMRS) by utilizing four machine-learning algorithms reconfigured into ten unique combinations. This selection was based on achieving the highest concordance index (C-index) in the test cohort of GSE21257, GSE39058, and GSE16091. We identified two distinct lipid metabolism molecular subtypes in osteosarcoma patients, C1 and C2, with significantly different survival rates. C1 is characterized by increased cholesterol, fatty acid synthesis, and ketone metabolism. In contrast, C2 focuses on steroid hormone biosynthesis, arachidonic acid, and glycerolipid and linoleic acid metabolism. Feature selection in the TARGET-OS identified 12 lipid metabolism genes, leading to a model predicting osteosarcoma patient survival. The LMRS, based on the 12 identified genes, consistently accurately predicted prognosis across TARGET-OS, testing cohorts, and Meta-Cohort. Incorporating 12 published signatures, LMRS showed robust and significantly superior predictive capability. Our results offer a promising tool to enhance the clinical management of osteosarcoma, potentially leading to improved clinical outcomes.

Abstract Background Drug repurposing provides a cost-effective approach to address the need for lung cancer prevention and therapeutics. We aimed to identify actionable druggable targets using Mendelian randomization (MR). Methods Summary-level data of gene expression quantitative trait loci (eQTLs) were sourced from the eQTLGen resource. We procured genetic associations with lung cancer and its subtypes from the TRICL, ILCCO studies (discovery) and the FinnGen study (replication). We implemented Summary-data-based Mendelian Randomization analysis to identify potential therapeutic targets for lung cancer. Colocalization analysis was further conducted to assess whether the identified signal pairs shared a causal genetic variant. Findings In the main analysis dataset, we identified 55 genes that demonstrate a causal relationship with lung cancer and its subtypes. However, in the replication cohort, only three genes were found to have such a causal association with lung cancer and its subtypes, and of these, HYKK (also known as AGPHD1) was consistently present in both the primary analysis dataset and the replication cohort. Following HEIDI tests and colocalization analyses, it was revealed that HYKK (AGPHD1) is associated with an increased risk of squamous cell carcinoma of the lung, with an odds ratio and confidence interval of OR = 1.28,95%CI = 1.24 to 1.33. Interpretation We have found that the HYKK (AGPHD1) gene is associated with an increased risk of squamous cell carcinoma of the lung, suggesting that this gene may represent a potential therapeutic target for both the prevention and treatment of lung squamous cell carcinoma.

Abstract Biochar-based sulfidized nano-sized zero-valent iron (SNZVI/BC) can effectively immobilize cadmium (Cd) in contaminated paddy soils. However, the synergistic effects between biochar and SNZVI on Cd immobilization, as well as the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. Herein, a soil microcosm incubation experiment was performed to investigate the immobilization performance of SNZVI/BC towards Cd in the contaminated paddy soil. Results indicated that the addition of SNZVI/BC at a dosage of 3% significantly lessened the concentration of available Cd in the contaminated soil from 14.9 (without addition) to 9.9 mg kg−1 with an immobilization efficiency of 33.3%, indicating a synergistic effect. The sequential extraction results indicated that the proportion of the residual Cd in the contaminated soil increased from 8.1 to 10.3%, manifesting the transformation of the unstable Cd fractions to the steadier specie after application of SNZVI/BC. Also, the addition of SNZVI/BC increased soil pH, organic matter, and dissolved organic carbon, which significantly altered the bacterial community in the soil, enriching the relative abundances of functional microbes (e.g., Bacillus, Clostridium, and Desulfosporosinus). These functional microorganisms further facilitated the generation of ammonium, nitrate, and ferrous iron in the contaminated paddy soil, enhancing nutrients’ availability. The direct interaction between SNZVI/BC and Cd2+, the altered soil physicochemical properties, and the responded bacterial community played important roles in Cd immobilization in the contaminated soil. Overall, the biochar-based SNZVI is a promising candidate for the effective immobilization of Cd and the improvement of nutrients’ availability in the contaminated paddy soil. Graphical Abstract

However, the largest number of Belisana species was found in Yunnan Province (23 ssp.), while only seven species were found in Guizhou Province.In this paper, Belisana wangchengi sp. nov. as a new species is described from Guizhou Province, China.
