The goal of this work is to propose a color prediction model for pre-colored fiber blends with high accuracy. The transfer function plays a vital role in an additive color mixing model. The better linearity between the transfer function and mass proportion, the higher accuracy of the model. However, the well-known Stearns-Noechel transfer function does not always hold good linearity, causing inaccurate color matching in many cases. Aiming at compensating the poor linearity, a new transfer function was established by minimizing the linear deviation. The proposed transfer function was applied to the additive model for color prediction of pre-colored fiber blends. The prediction accuracy of the proposed model was assessed by 44 samples. The average color difference was 0.63 CIEDE2000 unit, which was significantly better than the results of the Stearns-Noechel model (∼1.23) and the two-constant Kubelka-Munk model (∼1.11). Two Egyptian long staple cotton varieties (Giza 86 and Giza 80) were blended with imported Greek and Russian cottons at 100, 75, 50, 25 and 0 percent of Egyptian cotton component in blend. The objective of the study was to determine the effect of blending, with different percentages, on fiber and yarn properties. The study was set up as split plot design, where the varietal blends were allocated to the main plots and the blending percentages assigned to the subplots. Fiber properties, i.e., fiber length, uniformity and fiber strength values decreased, whereas fiber elongation, mirconaire value and neps count increased, with increasing imported upland cotton percentage in the blend. Differences were also found between Egyptian cotton cultivars where Giza 86 gave higher values for fiber length and strength values, but lower micronaire and neps values compared to Giza 80. Concerning yarn characteristics, most of the studied yarn properties were not affected by varietal blends, blending percentages and their interaction. However, number of neps places were lower for introduced cotton compared to Egyptian cotton. Yarn elongation varied significantly with the percentage of imported cotton in the blend and was highest (5.94) with 50:50% Egyptian to introduced cotton. The correlation between blended fiber properties and yarn characteristics varied according to varietal blend, but, generally, showed negative correlation between single yarn strength and fiber micronaire value (-0.54), and between yarn uniformity and blended fiber elongation (0.58). In this study, the mechanical properties critical to the protective performance of firefighter turnout gear were evaluated for environmentally stressed outer shell (OS) fabrics containing melamine fiber blends. Environmental stress factors that affect the durability of turnout gear include temperature, ultraviolet (UV) radiation, moisture, abrasion, and laundering. The effect of fiber blend, fabric construction, and finishing processes including water repellent coatings and pigmented melamine-containing OS fabrics were also studied. Melamine-containing OS fabrics show comparable thermal protective performance and have superior tear resistance when compared to the traditionally used polyaramid blends. This study reveals that the thermal protective protection (TPP) rating of fabric assemblies incorporating environmentally stressed OS fabrics containing melamine fiber blends is well above the NFPA minimum TPP requirement of 35 cal/cm. However, the tear strength (measured using ASTM D 5587 standard test method) of all melamine-containing OS fabrics exposed to environmental stresses was observed to have significantly deteriorated, and most OS fabrics, depending on fiber blend and fabric structure, would fail to meet requirements of NFPA 1971 standard. The study thus suggests that environmental stressing has a more detrimental impact on the tear strength than the thermal protective performance of OS fabrics. Deterioration in tear strength of all UV exposed OS fabrics is largely due to photodegradation of constituent fibers. Changes in tear strength of OS fabrics subjected to thermal exposures and laundering is cumulative effect of loss in tensile strength of single yarns and dimensional stability of the fabric itself. Furthermore, finishing treatments affect performance properties of fabric by increasing fiber packing factor in yarn, changing yarn crimp and yarn spacing thereby making dimensional changes to the fabric. Surface coatings alter tear resistance of fabric by influencing yarn slippage and fabric rigidity. This article presents a theory of the contact interaction of two filaments that are twisted together. A formula is obtained for the contact load, which is expressed through the tension of one filament (one component). Another formula is obtained for the strength of the twisted filament, and a weak local strength maximum is found. The conditions under which the outer filament and the axis of the twisted filament are parallel were determined analytically: 1) the twisting of the initial filament K and the secondary twisting K must be done in opposite directions (the twist K has a minus sign in Eq. This study examined the feasibility of assessing yarns with the Wool ComfortMeter (WCM) to predict the comfort properties of the corresponding single jersey-knitted fabrics. The optimum yarn arrangement to predict the comfort value of a corresponding control fabric was determined using nine wool and wool/nylon-blended yarns (mean fibre diameter range 16.5–24.9 μm) knitted into 34 different fabrics. Using a notched template, yarn winding frequencies of 1, 3, 6, 12, 25 and 50 parallel yarns were tested on the WCM. The best predictor of fabric WCM values was using 25 parallel yarns. Inclusion of knitting gauge and cover factor slightly improved predictions. This indicates that evaluation at the yarn stage would be a reliable predictor of knitted fabric comfort, and thus yarn testing would avoid the time and expense of fabric construction. Eft/acrylic blended yarn has been prepared at different blend ratio in ring spinning system following draw-frame blending technique. The Box and Behnken design for three variables and three levels has been used to study the influence of count of the yarn spun (Ne), twist multiplier and proportion of eri fibre in the blends on some important tensile properties of the yarns produced. Siro spinning technology is used to spin linen/polyester y am, to study effects of roving twist factor on properties of sirospun yarn. Through the 23.6 tex linen/polyester Siro yarn spinning, different choices of roving twist factor, we can get different quality of Siro yarn. Providing measurement and analysis on indexes of the yarn hairiness, strength and evenness under different roving twist factor. Based on different properties of aramid 1414 fiber and cotton fiber, process parameters were optimized and the difficulties existing in the spinning process were solved, and by combining with production practice, the high-quality 27.9 tex 50/50 aramid 1414/cotton blended yam was spun on modern spinning machine.
