Morphological and molecular diversity of Ganoderma species causing basal stem rot of coconut in Southern dry tracts of Karnataka, India was carried out during 2016-17. A total of 20 isolates were isolated from Chitradurga, Chikamagalore, Hassan and Tumkur districts of Karnataka and were identified based on morphological and molecular characteristics. Sporocarps and diseased root bits were found as good source for isolation of Ganoderma. In all the isolates there were high variability in cultural, morphological and molecular characteristics. The dendrogram generated from the cultural and morphological characteristics showed clear variations among Ganoderma isolates and formed two main clusters, one cluster consisted of 13 isolates and another cluster consisted of 7 isolates. Several isolates showed 100 per cent similarity in the morphological characters regardless of their geographical origin. All the Ganoderma isolates amplified a fragment of 650 bp with fungal universal primers (ITS1 and ITS4). The ITS gene sequences of five isolates viz., CG1 (MK 681870), CG7 (MK681871), CG11 (MK681872), CG14 (MK681873) and CG20 (MK681874) were deposited in NCBI gene bank. Taxonomic comparison of the isolates with NCBI database proved that the isolates were genetically related to Ganoderma spp. with 80-100 per cent identity. However, all the tested isolates could not amplify G. lucidum species specific markers which indicate its absence in the region. The phylogenetic analysis of the Ganoderma isolates (ITS1 and ITS4) of coconut with other known species of Ganoderma from GenBank emphasized the close relationship with India, China and Sri Lanka isolates. The isolate CG1 grouped with Ganoderma carnosum (KR 733545.1) with 98.97 per cent identity which is isolated from Sri Lanka and CG14 and CG20 grouped with G. applanatum (MF 072395.1) and G. gibbosum (OM 350473.1) with 98 to 99 per cent identity and CG7 and CG11 isolates of coconut grouped into distinct sub cluster and clearly indicated the species diversity in Ganoderma infecting coconut in Southern Karnataka.

Edible oil is an integral part of everyday cooking, due to remarkable gain in vegetable oil consumption in India over the past few decades. Accomplishing edible oil requirement of the ever-growing population is a formidable task before the country. On the contrary, annual compound growth rate of major edible oilseeds in India is declining. This phenomenal disparity in demand and supply of vegetable oil in the country is tending to bother through profuse investment on overseas purchase. At this point of time, in order to meet on-growing demand of edible oil, rice bran oil can be the available option before the country. India being the major producer of rice, yields significant amount of bran which contain upto 24% edible grade superior quality vegetable oil. It essentially contains 48.48% oleic acid, 35.26% linoleic acid, 14.54% palmitic acid, 8.15% free fatty acid besides contain good number of antioxidants such as tocopherols, tocotrienols and oryzanol. Therefore, rice bran oil became the integral part of oil market in India and abroad. Inspite of its benefits, it has not been fully exploited. Science and technology are the main drivers of a country's development. With the advent of science and technology digital world is now flourishing than ever before. In many sectors, digital platforms are vaguely being used as a growth engine. Therefore, illiteracy in digital platforms causes knowledge poverty and it ultimately acts as a prime barrier in development. India being the country with agrarian background, for its comprehensive development digital literacy certainly complements with traditional wisdom in agriculture. Digital platforms have range of utility in agriculture, most importantly timely supply of required information on production, processing, marketing, extension etc., unfortunately, digital literacy among Indian agriculture inhabitants is meagre. If the opportunities available in digital sciences are properly explored, there is ample chances of making agriculture more productive, efficient and profitable. Despite innumerable opportunities, technophobic farmers, substandard educational and economic status, fragmented land holdings, lack of awareness and exposure to contemporary technologies are some of the reasons which can be attributed to this kind of snail's pace adoption. Exploring ecosystem services for environment sustainability is the trending area of research in the field of natural resource management (NRM). Water is an important entity of agro-ecosystem, dryland agriculture greatly suffers due to want of moisture. Bi-cropping is one practice where different crops are grown in proximity to realize various benefits under uncertainties of dryland agriculture. Literacy among multifarious benefits of bi-cropping over monoculture is fairly rich among the researchers as well as growers. However, bioirrigation is one such co-benefits which address about drought alleviating strategies under bi-cropping practice. In this technique, deep rooted plants suck up water from deep moist sub-soil and deposit part of that sucked water in the upper dry soil layers due to water potential gradient, during this hydraulic lift and redistribution shallow rooted neighboring crops in close proximity gets due benefits of this lifted water in alleviating drought. This is high time to device cropping systems of water limited environment to unlock the potentiality of dryland production units. Based on the published studies Piliostigma reticulatum, Guiera senegalensis, Panicum maximum, Festuca arundinacea and Cajanus cajan were identified as potential bio-irrigator arid agro-ecosystem. A field experiment was conducted at Zonal Agricultural Research Station, UAS, GKVK, Bengaluru during 2019-20, to optimize the nutrients for seed yield and economics of seed production in niger. The experiment was laid out in RCBD and replicated thrice with eight treatment combinations. The results revealed that, treatment applied with FYM @ 5 t ha-1 along with NPK @ 40:40:30 kg ha-1 (T8) recorded higher growth and seed yield parameters viz., plant height (205.26 cm at harvest), number of primary and secondary branches (13.20 and 26.40, respectively), number of capitula per branch (11.48), number of capitula per plant (113.06), number of seeds per capitula (13.29), seed yield per plant (5.67 g), seed yield per plot (330.33 g), seed yield per hectare (5.35 q ha-1) with gross returns Rs. 535000 ha-1 and B:C ratio of 1.56:1 followed by treatment FYM 5 ton ha-1 along with 40:40:20 NPK kg ha-1 (T7) with gross returns of Rs.52900 ha-1 and B:C ratio of 1.70:1. However, among all the treatments, application of FYM @ 5 t ha-1 and seeds treated with Azotobacter and PSB at 20 g each per kg of seed (T4) registered highest B:C ratio of 1.85:1 with gross returns of Rs.39,500 ha-1 and net returns Rs.18196.80 ha-1. Introduction: Demirjian's method of dental age assessment estimates the overall dental age by scoring based on the stage of tooth formation, using panoramic radiographs. This method was primarily based on data acquired from individuals of French-Canadian origin. It has since been applied and modified for the Indian population. Therefore, the aim of the present study is to assess the reliability of the Indian formula in the population of Bengaluru., Materials and Methods: Dental maturity of 297 subjects between 9 and 17 years was assessed using the India-specific formula of Demirjian et al. 's 8-teeth method and the chronological age of each subject was calculated. Pearson's correlation, Independent student test/Mann-Whitney test and Chi-square test were used for statistical analysis of the results obtained., Results and Discussion: A very strong correlation ( P < 0.001) between the chronological and estimated age by Demirjian's method was obtained. Introduction: Dental age (DA) assessment is a reliable method for chronological age (CA) estimation used for criminal, forensic, and anthropologic purposes. Age estimation also provides valuable information when the birth date is unavailable, as in case of migrants. Furthermore, the CA of living people is important for employment and marriage purpose., Objectives: The aim of the present study is to check the reliability of the Willems method in the population of Bangalore., Materials and Methods: The study was conducted on 205 (109 boys and 96 girls) participants by their radiographic records in the department of forensic odontology using modified Demirjian's method by Willem et al ., Results: A total of 205 subjects were selected for the study, among which 109 (53.2%) were boys and 96 (46.8%) were girls. The mean CA was 12.23 ± 1.75 and the mean DA was 12.20 ± 1.99. Objective: To correlate the findings on 3T multiparametric prostate MRI using PIRADS version 2 with prostate biopsy results as the standard of reference., Materials and Methods: 134 consecutive treatment naive patients (mean age 64 years, range 41-82 years) underwent MRI-directed prostate biopsy. MRI-TRUS fusion biopsy was used for 77 (77/134 = 57.5%) patients, cognitive fusion for 51 (51/134 = 38.0%) patients, and 6 patients (6/134 = 4.5%) without a target nodule had systematic biopsy only. Out of the 1676 biopsy sites, 237 (237/1676 = 14.1%) were positive on MRI for a PIRADS 3, 4, or 5 nodule. Fifty-eight (58/134, 43.3%) patients had clinically significant prostate cancer (csPCa). The findings on MRI using PIRADS version 2 were correlated with the biopsy results., Results: The accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, and negative predictive value of PIRADS ≥ 3 for csPCa were 89%, 76.5%, 89.7%, 31.7%, and 98.4%, respectively. The detection rates of csPCa for PIRADS 3, 4, and 5 nodules were 6.1% (4/66), 33.3% (42/126), and 64.4% (29/45), respectively. MRI did not identify a nodule in 23/1676 (1.4%) biopsy sites that contained csPCa. The MRI reader, biopsy operator, method of fusion biopsy, and zonal location of prostate nodule did not significantly affect the odds of having a biopsy result positive for csPCa., Conclusion: PIRADS ≥ 3 had high specificity and high negative predictive value for csPCa using biopsy results as the standard of reference. The presence of csPCa from a biopsy site was highly unlikely in the absence of a corresponding PIRADS ≥ 3 nodule.

Purpose: To review borderline resectability criteria for pancreatic malignancies, show examples of few surgically treated minimally advanced pancreatic malignancies, discuss various complex vascular reconstructions, and highlight the imaging appearances., Background: Often aggressive surgical approaches are used to treat borderline to minimally advanced pancreatic malignancies in specialist centers. As abdominal radiologists it is essential to have up-to-date knowledge to distinguish such tumors with accuracy and also be well versed with the various vascular reconstructions used in such surgeries., Imaging Findings: We will show various examples of resected borderline resectable and minimally advanced pancreatic malignancies, highlight crucial vascular involvements, describe various types of advanced vascular reconstructions, and review their standard imaging appearances. We will also briefly describe the vascular complications and highlight the importance of imaging surveillance in early post-operative period., Conclusions: It is essential for abdominal radiologists in specialist centers where aggressive surgical approaches are used to have accurate knowledge to assess vascular involvement in pancreatic malignancies and equally to recognize and assess vascular reconstructions on imaging after complex surgeries.

Objective: To prospectively compare the diagnostic performance of gadoxetic acid-enhanced MRI (EOB-MRI) and contrast-enhanced CT (CECT) for preoperative detection of colorectal liver metastases (CRLM) following chemotherapy and to evaluate the potential change in the hepatic resection plan., Methods: 51 patients with CRLM treated with preoperative chemotherapy underwent liver imaging by EOB-MRI and CECT prospectively. Two independent blinded readers characterized hepatic lesions on each imaging modality using a 5-point scoring system. 41 patients underwent hepatic resection and histopathological evaluation., Results: 151 CRLM were confirmed by histology. EOB-MRI, compared to CECT, had significantly higher sensitivity in detection of CRLM ≤1.0 cm (86% vs. 45.5%; p < 0.001), significantly lower indeterminate lesions diagnosis (7% vs. 33%; p < 0.001) and significantly higher interobserver concordance rate in characterizing the lesions ≤1.0 cm (72% vs. 51%; p = 0.041). The higher yield of EOB-MRI could have changed the surgical plan in 45% of patients., Conclusion: Following preoperative chemotherapy, EOB-MRI is superior to CECT in detection of small CRLM (≤1 cm) with significantly higher sensitivity and diagnostic confidence and interobserver concordance in lesion characterization. Background: Patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) beyond the traditional criteria (advanced HCC) are typically offered palliation, which is associated with a 3-year survival rate lower than 30%. This study aimed to describe the outcomes for a subset of patients with advanced HCC who satisfied the Extended Toronto Criteria (ETC) and were listed for liver transplantation (LT)., Methods: All patients listed in the Toronto liver transplantation program with HCC beyond both the Milan and University of California, San Francisco criteria were included in this study. Data were extracted from the prospectively collected electronic database. All radiologic images were reviewed by two independent radiologists. The primary end point was patient survival., Results: Between January 1999 and August 2014, 96 patients with advanced HCC were listed for LT, and 62 (65%) of these patients received bridging therapy while on the waiting list. Bridging therapy led to a significant reduction in tumor progression (p = 0.02) and tumor burden (p < 0.001). The majority of those listed underwent LT (n = 69, 72%). Both tumor progression on waiting list (hazard ratio [HR] 4.973; range1.599-15.464; p = 0.006) and peak alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) at 400 ng/ml or higher (HR, 4.604; range 1.660-12.768; p = 0.003) were independently associated with waiting list dropout. Post-LT HCC recurrence occurred in 35% of the patients (n = 24). Among those with HCC recurrence, survival was significantly better for those who received curative treatment (p = 0.004). The overall actuarial survival rates from the listing were 76% at 1 year, 56% at 3 years, and 47% at 5 years, and the corresponding rates from LT were 93, 71, and 66%., Conclusion: Liver transplantation provides significantly better survival rates than palliation for patients with selected advanced HCC.

Objective: Myelolipoma is a benign tumor composed of fatty and hematopoietic elements. Presacral myelolipoma is rare, with fewer than 40 cases reported in the English literature. It is important to make an accurate diagnosis because there are malignant diseases included in the differential diagnosis of a presacral fatty mass, particularly liposarcoma., Conclusion: The combination of a well-encapsulated fat-containing presacral mass, lack of coinciding hematologic disease, and uptake on sulfur colloid scintigraphy support the diagnosis of a presacral myelolipoma.

Objective: To assess the efficacy and complication rates of percutaneous ultrasound (US)-guided pancreatic mass biopsy and to determine if location of the mass or method of biopsy affects efficacy., Methods: Imaging, pathology, and clinical records of all patients undergoing percutaneous US-guided pancreatic mass sampling from January 2001 until November 2011 were reviewed. Of 88 pancreatic masses, 13 underwent fine needle aspiration (FNA) only, 60 underwent core needle biopsy only, and 15 underwent both. Diagnostic rate, sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, and positive predictive value and negative predictive value (NPV) based on location of the mass (head/neck vs. body/tail) and method of biopsy (core vs. FNA vs. combined) were determined. The final diagnosis was determined on the basis of follow-up imaging, clinical course, and/or surgical pathology. Complications were assessed by reviewing clinical notes and postprocedural imaging., Results: The overall diagnostic rate, sensitivity, accuracy, and NPV of all 88 biopsies were 94%, 93%, 93%, and 57%, respectively. Five samples were nondiagnostic and considered false negatives. There were no false-positive biopsy results. No significant difference was observed in the diagnostic rate, sensitivity, accuracy, and NPV between core biopsies, FNAs, and combined core and FNA biopsies. Furthermore, no significant difference was found between head/neck and body/tail samplings. In 96.7% (85/88) of the cases, the procedure was uneventful. There were no major complications., Conclusions: Percutaneous US-guided sampling of pancreatic mass is safe and effective irrespective of location of the mass and method of biopsy., (Copyright © 2015 Elsevier Inc. Objective: The purpose of this article is to review the many evolving facets of MRI in the evaluation of prostate cancer. We will discuss the roles of multiparametric MRI, including diffusion-weighted MRI, dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI, and MR spectroscopy, as adjuncts to morphologic T2-weighted imaging in detection, staging, treatment planning, and surveillance of prostate cancer., Conclusion: Radiologists need to understand the advantages, limitations, and potential pitfalls of the different sequences to provide optimal assessment of prostate cancer.
