Abstract

The amount of information is expanding exponentially therefore it is very important to develop an efficient and unique way to retrieve them in an effective manner. It is extremely challenging to locate and retrieve significant data from these files or documents due to their nature, rapid speed of expansion, and scattered character. This research speaks about the insertion of incoming data followed by indexing of its contents. Lucene is responsible for document indexing when the search engine is coupled using the specified database or file system.

Abstract

Introduction: Short stem hip replacements may allow preservation of proximal bone stock and minimise soft tissue disruption, easing future revision surgery. However patient satisfaction with these implants must be determined before widespread use. We aimed to compare patient reported outcome measures (PROMs) between short and conventional stem hip replacements. Methods: A systematic review was conducted according to PRISMA guidelines for studies comparing short and conventional stem hip replacements with validated PROMs. Meta-analyses were performed for studies reporting Harris Hip and WOMAC scores. Study bias was assessed with the Cochrane Risk of Bias tool and Newcastle-Ottawa Scale. Results: 24 studies, incorporating 2593 total hip replacements were included for qualitative analysis. 17 studies were included in the meta-analyses. Of the 7 excluded, 1 study reported the Japanese Orthopaedic Association score and 2 others reported the Oxford Hip score. All three showed no difference between the stems. A meta-analysis of 17 studies reporting Harris hip scores showed no statistically significant difference between short and conventional stems (standard mean difference (SMD) −0.06, 95% CI −0.20—0.07, p = 0.35). 6 studies reported WOMAC scores with higher scores indicating worse outcome. No difference was seen between the two groups (SMD 0.21, 95%CI, −0.01—0.42, p = 0.06). 4 studies reported higher WOMAC scores as better. Once again, a meta-analysis showed no statistically significant difference between the stems (SMD 0.28, 95% CI −0.07—0.63, p = 0.12). Conclusions: Our systematic review showed no difference in PROMs between short and conventional stem total hip replacements. This is in keeping with previous evidence but is a more comprehensive analysis. Short stems may have an important role in younger individuals as they allow preservation of proximal femoral bone, minimal access surgery and are amenable to abnormal anatomy. The current literature is hindered by non-uniform methodologies and outcome assessments across studies. Further, standardised, high quality evidence is required before widespread changes in practice. Abstract

A hot rolled strip produced by any integrated steel plant would require satisfying some stringent requirements of its surface profile. Crown and Flatness are two industrially accepted quantifiers that relate to the geometric tolerances in the rolled strips. This study attempts to regulate both crown and flatness within an acceptable limit, satisfying more than one objective at a time. Mathematically, this leads to a multi-objective optimization problem where the solution is no longer unique and a family of equally feasible solutions leads to the so called Pareto-Front, where each member is simply as good as the others. To implement this concept in the present context, one needs to realize that the surface deformation, which is ultimately imparted to the rolled sheets, comes from more than one source. The wear of the rolls, their thermal expansion, bending, and also deformation, contribute significantly towards the crown and flatness that is ultimately observed. During this study a detailed mathematical model has been worked out for this process incorporating all of these phenomena. Computation for the Pareto-optimality has been carried out using different forms of biologically inspired Genetic Algorithms, often integrated with an Ant Colony Optimization Scheme. Ultimately the model has been fine tuned for the hot rolling practice in a major integrated steel plant and tested against their actual operational data.

Abstract

Aim: The main purpose of this study is to determine the dimensional accuracy of digital models as compared to that of study models and the reliability of electronic surveying. The study aims to measure and compare distances between selected landmarks on study models and digital models, angles of cervical convergence and undercut depth at predetermined points on the abutment teeth. Material and Methods: The study used partially edentulous study models of each of Kennedy's class I, II and III classifications. All the three models were scanned using multislice helical computerized tomography (CT) scan and digitized on the computer. The physical model and digitized models were surveyed and measured using various parameters and study designs. Measurements were conducted directly on study models and computer models using Altair Hyper mesh network version 7.0. The differences between the two sets of measurement were statistically analyzed using a suitable method. (t- Test). Results: The differences between measurement of distance on study models and digital models were found to be within the precision of 0.17mm, 0.08, o for the angle of cervical convergence and precision of 0.04mm for undercut depth of the abutment teeth. All these measurements were statistically slightly significant and well within the range of intraoperator variations. Conclusion: This study shows that dental cast can be scanned with the help of an accurate and sophisticated scanner and the scanned data can be transferred to the computer and used for the purpose of digital or electronic surveying.
