SUSTAINABLE development reporting ,SOCIAL responsibility of business ,ENVIRONMENTAL reporting ,PUBLIC companies - Abstract
Due to the increasing environmental and social concerns worldwide, there has been a major shift in the reporting standards in the last decade. This has created a need to look more closely into the reporting issues to be addressed by a country like India. As part of its efforts to improve the Environment Social and Governance (ESG) disclosures, new criteria for sustainability reporting were introduced by SEBI. These reporting criteria which were to be followed by the Top - 1000 publicly listed companies, were termed as BRSR -- "Business Responsibility and Sustainability Reporting". In this paper, the authors present discussions on the background and introduction of BRSR, the parameters of evolution of sustainability reporting from Business Responsibility Reporting (BRR) to BRSR, as well as the enhancements brought in by BRSR. The authors conducted an exploratory study that provides a comprehensive description of BRSR in India along with a critical overview of the various modifications from BRR to BRSR. We examined information disclosed in reports of the Committee on Business Responsibility Reporting, Sustainability Reporting Standards Board (The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India based). In their pursuit to be ethically, socially and environmentally responsible, the aim of the Indian companies is to reach higher disclosure levels with the BRSR implementation. BRSR seems comprehensive, globally relevant and is based on specific quantifiable metrics. This should help tell the holistic ESG story of each reporting company. While the 'proof of the pudding is in the eating', the Indian regulators are taking strong strides toward sustainability. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

One of the main security risks in information technology (IT) is software vulnerability. The vulnerability when exploited by attacks, can cause catastrophic losses to the system. A lot vulnerabilities are explored and discovered in the computing system and these vulnerabilities have also increased multifold. The security vulnerabilities span across entire networks, large organisations and have to mitigated by information security engineers on a regular routine basis. One of the key challenges for Information Technology (IT) system administrators is how to tackle these vulnerabilities and more specifically which vulnerability to prioritize. All companies recognize the importance and need to prioritize these vulnerabilities. It is not only important to prioritize the vulnerabilities; it is imperative to utilize a vulnerability evaluation system. The significant role of the vulnerability evaluation system is to separate these vulnerabilities from each other through quantitative and qualitative methods. In this paper, we first review through both qualitatively and quantitatively the various vulnerabilities within an existing large global multinational company. We explore and analyze 30,000 various vulnerabilities across a 3-month time period. The 30,000 vulnerabilities are captured using an automated software from individual systems and the the network within the company. The software detects the vulnerabilities and the various characteristics associated with these vulnerabilities and assigns severity levels based on the severity of the vulnerability. The severity is assigned a score from 1 to 5, with 1 being least. The vulnerabilities captured span across 20 different lab environments, across different operating systems and these vulnerabilities are with various severity levels. The CVSS vulnerability scoring system was utilized for data from one of the biggest multinational company from within their environment. The researchers analyzed the various vulnerabilities using the various parameters of these vulnerabilities. The researchers analyzed and studied the various inherent patterns within the environment. Various variables were analyzed critically as part of the descriptive analytics. The vulnerabilities were analyzed across the labs. Then each lab was analyzed using variables like OS, various severity levels, IDs, status of vulnerabilities, CVSS scores, Access Vector, Attack Complexity, Confidentiality, Integrity, Availability, Exploitability, Systems, categories of systems, Ports, PCI, [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

For more than four decades, corporates were operating using the principle of "Maximizing Shareholder Value". With this principle, their focus was on profits and share prices, regardless of the consequences to other stakeholders like community, customers, labor force, suppliers and others. The free-market ideology of "Shareholder Primacy" was a key driver in Indian markets. In this paper, the researchers explore if Indian corporates are replacing "Shareholder Capitalism" with "Stakeholder Capitalism" and are striking the balance between stakeholders in allocating the profits and capital of an organization towards the society. The researchers revisit the time-tested popular narratives of capitalism and the predominant stakeholder in these narratives. In order to promote responsible and sustainable businesses for current and future generations, the researchers believe that the fine balance among stakeholders is the true constant and this balance can be achieved through communication and the principle of stakeholder communication can be meaningful principle of stakeholder capitalism. The researchers through a systematic review of literature and elucidation of major narratives, map the stakeholders of Indian corporates using annual reports and to confirm the resurgence of Stakeholder Capitalism. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), over the last few decades, has become a buzzword among organizations and its stakeholders. Communicating CSR has evolved from a unidirectional mode to a bidirectional mode, enabling companies build positive reputation with stakeholders -- from design phase to implementation of any CSR initiative. Penal measures, as stipulated in the amendments to Companies Act 2013, make it imperative for businesses and academic experts to interpret CSR reporting and communications in greater depth. Every company chooses to implement CSR in its own manner based on its size, the industry in which it operates, the inherent culture, the demands of its stakeholders and the company's own history. This study examines the communication materials meant for consumption by the intended audience of CSR communications (internal/external actors) along with official social media presence, CSR communication modalities, including challenges and gaps in CSR communication pertaining to Indian Organizations. Qualitative data from one hundred Indian companies across nine sectors are analyzed to see how these companies address CSR reporting and communications in arriving at a framework for communicating CSR Initiatives. Large organizations across the globe are using advanced security solutions to protect and watch the users information. Even with such advanced solutions these companies are not able to protect or attacks. In addition to attacks one of the key aspects is users behaviour and detecting anomalies when the users are utilizing the systems on the network as well the patterns in their behaviour. Lack of proper monitoring and controls implementation and data breaches are seen. The security professionals within the organizations as well as outside are grappling to solve these issues. One of the new approaches to information security is User Entity Behaviour Analytics (UEBA). One of the biggest challenges with incident response is the large amount of data that the system environment has generated and how to accommodate and analyse the data. Analytics within the area of information security is a new area. Analytics professionals are working on creating rules and correlation aspects, in addition to trends and behaviour patterns with respect to the users behaviour and their approach. One of the key focus areas of UEBA is on users actions and behaviours. Behaviours, users access as well as their usage anomalies are popular and interpretation of these anomalies or malicious activities is very critical. UEBA approach is a viable approach in the area of security to detect user behaviour anomalies using methods like statistical analysis and machine learning. The paper aims to show how analytics and specifically UEBA can help in users patterns and any anomalies within these patterns. With the focus on user behaviours and the analytics related to user behaviours the authors look at the insights, benefits and the utilization of resources in the area of security. The various parameters analysed for the users are user name, IP Address, time of usage, date of usage. The data was analysed over a period of 3 months. The researchers developed patterns using a visualization dashboard and used mining, script and processing of raw data before developing visual analytics. The various anomalies were highlighted from the different patterns. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

As the Indian economy has been going through various fluctuations due to the current government reforms as well as structural reforms across various levels, Indian banks have been facing a lot of pressures. Though the Indian banking sector are well known for their financial and healthy stability, however, due to policy issues at the structural there has been several concerns. Issues such as Net Performance Assets (NPA) were further exposed which led to additional pressures. The aim of the present paper is to compare the social good of these banks with respect to their NPA ratio. The researchers are comparing the social good, measured in terms of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Spend and the NPA Ratio, measured in terms of the total number of wilful defaulters and the total amount which has been wilfully defaulted. The financial performance evaluation was based on various financial metrics like profitability and liquidity. The researchers evaluated the financial performance in addition to NPAs for these banks. The NPAs were evaluated using various aspects of bank's financial parameters like Net profit, Loans, Advances, Net NPA (NNPA), Gross NPA (GNPA), Enterprise value, Book value, Deposits, market capitalisation, Deposits (CAGR%), CASA deposits, and Return on Assets (ROA). The Social Good is evaluated by the CSR Spend of the company for that particular year. All these parameters were extracted from CMIE Prowess database. The study has employed on a sample size data of 28 banks, where all of these banks are a combination of private and government owned banks and the data has been collected over a period of three years from 2016 to 2018. The researchers also performed an extensive literature review to review the comparison of NPA ratio versus social good. As the researchers looked at the NPA ratios they not only looked at the number of wilful defaulters but also the total amount of wilful defaulted. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Over the year's Indian economy has been going through continuous fluctuations due to the recent government reforms. With reforms are various structural levels, banks were also looked into detail. Even though the Indian banking sector are known for maintaining stability at International levels, due to operational issues there has been several concerns at the Indian Banks which has led to issues like Net Performance Assets (NPA). The merger is a combination of two or more companies with an objective of wealth maximization to add more value with a stand of one. The aim of the present paper is to evaluate the pre and post performance and NPA of the merging banks in the Indian banking industry. The financial performance evaluation was based on various financial metrics like profitability and liquidity. In addition to financial performance, NPAs are evaluated using various aspects of bank's financial parameters like Net profit, Loans, Advances, Net NPA (NNPA), Gross NPA (GNPA), Enterprise value, Book value, Market capitalization, Deposits, Deposits (CAGR%), CASA deposits, Return on Equity (ROE) and Return on Assets (ROA). The study has employed on a sample size data of 12 banks, where all of them are government owned banks and the data has been collected over a period of three years from 2016 to 2018. Through an extensive literature review the researchers explored that through the comparison of financial performance it is evident that the amalgamation of the banks into a single bank is positively affected in the future. The mergers of big banks may fructify over the next 18-24 months. Though the integration is long-drawn it will disrupt lending. There will be issues of book dilution, which will happen due to government infusing capital at low valuations and issues additional shares to investors of amalgamated banks. The researchers through their insights show how the "Big-Four" category of banks after the mergers are performing through various metrics. The researchers through their statistical analysis shown key takeaways. The merger of 12 banks into 4 categories or groups show mixed and interesting results. The results show how a strong bank will make the merger strong, trade on similar valuations, less painful to investors, lead dilution in capital. Another result show how a weak anchor bank is equal to that of an added challenge. How an elevated GNPA of combined bank would be elevated and how the merged entity would trade at a premium valuation and further dilution. In another result, the results show how a lead anchor bank which is already under stress will make the merger more complex. On the advances side all banks have a similar mix of loan portfolios. Hence, the loan mix of the combined entity will have a minimal change. For all the 4 categories of banks the cost synergies would come into play if the infrastructure is rationalized. The researchers critically evaluated the NPA of each of the 12 banks separately and then the each of the 4 groups which were merged. Hence, a pre-merger and a post-merger NPA was evaluated. The researchers did not look into their employees or locations. These factors were not included into the study. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

These annual reports are not only useful for companies but also to government, NGO's, society and many other stakeholders. In the past many of the annual reports were studied manually. But now with internet, there is a great opportunity to develop automation through software tools and techniques. Data Mining techniques and related techniques and softwares can help not only researchers but also corporations to extract text from multiple data sources like word processing documents as well as image documents like an image file or a PDF file. In this paper, the researchers first and designed the manual process and also performed the manual process of text extraction from annual reports. Having understood and performed the manual process the researchers analyzed the various tools and techniques available on net. They explored and analyze all the tools, scripts and software available on the net. The researchers analyzed through various parameters. The researchers developed a benchmarking model across all the tools and techniques after analyzing each of these software critically. These softwares were specifically analyzed for performance and feasibility and various parameters were evaluated within performance and feasibility. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has become mandatory for corporations in India. Its importance is not only for government but impactful to society as well. As a result, there has been a dramatic increase on how these corporations are allocating and categorizing their their social and environmental activities as well as how they need to allocate the funds to these categorized areas. All these Indian companies are disclosing their CSR activities in which they are involved through their company's annual reports. These annual reports are not only useful for companies but also to government, NGO's, society and many other stakeholders. In the past many of their activities may have been randomly allocated, but since CSR became mandatory the activities as well as the budgets are allocated with a cause and purpose. In this paper, the researchers understood through an extensive literature review the various themes and sub-themes the companies are allocating their CSR. Having understood and performed the empirical study the researchers analyzed the various categories of CSR activities, the various themes and sub-themes across the globe. The researchers analyzed the various CSR parameters, tasks and sub-tasks across 500 Indian listed companies across 5 years. The researchers performed a manual mapping of the various CSR activities and developed a list of possible themes and sub-themes. CAPITALISM ,STOCKHOLDER wealth ,VALUE creation ,SHAREHOLDER primacy ,ASSET allocation - Abstract
COMPUTER software security ,INFORMATION technology ,INFORMATION technology security - Abstract
One of the main security risks is the software vulnerability. The vulnerability when exploited by attacks, can cause catastrophic losses to the system. There are a number of vulnerabilities that are explored and discovered in the computing system and these vulnerabilities have increased multifold. The 30,000 vulnerabilities are captured using an automated software from individual systems and the network within the company. Then each lab was analyzed using variables like OS, various severity levels, IDs, status of vulnerabilities, CVSS scores, Access Vector, Attack Complexity, Confidentiality, Integrity, Availability, Exploitability, Systems, categories of systems, Ports, PCI. Business organisations have moved from simple philanthropic activities to social responsibility. These business organisations are not only integrating social aspects within the company's overall strategy but also towards country's social initiatives and UN's development goals. The authors main objective of this paper is to study and analyze the social factors related to healthcare within the realm of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). The understanding of healthcare from a social aspect broadens the engagement from the development aspect. It also ensures the corporations involvement and inclusion within the social sector as well as their role in societal impact. With the introduction of mandated CSR it has forced corporates in India to ensure social aspects of CSR are towards the development needs of nation. The motivation for the authors to perform this study is to understand the various social factors related to the healthcare area particularly after mandated CSR in Indian. The researchers through the study of literature reviews found the gap specifically in the area of healthcare factors related to sustainable development as well county's focus towards development after the introduction of mandated CSR. There have been limited studies by various researchers that have been investigated across the globe specific to this gap. The authors performed an exhaustive overview and review of more than 100 research papers and found that there are limited studies that explain the linkage for Indian companies especially after the mandated CSR. The authors sample comprises of 125 listed companies out of the 500 listed companies in the National Stock Exchange (NSE) of India. The 125 listed companies are across various industries and sectors and sub-sectors. The authors in this study used the content analysis method to extract the information from annual reports and websites of the 125 NSE-listed companies in India. The collected information was analyzed using basic statistical methods. The authors use stakeholder theory as the research framework and developed the stakeholders accordingly. The authors use the various healthcare related CSR parameters for the study. The authors use 2 years for this study, 2014, the year before mandate and 2018, the year after mandate. The authors perform analysis and compare the factors before and after the mandate. Though some earlier studies have found that there is little difference in the CSR practices of Indian companies due to mandate, however, the mandate has created greater awareness and that has created many implications towards decision making towards CSR. In this paper the authors explore the companies across various industries and how, when and where the Indian companies are allocate their CSR Spend budgets specifically related to healthcare aspects. This study will ultimately help the various companies to consciously allocate the CSR budgets towards their CSR healthcare practices not only to create a maximum impact as per the government mandate but also to ensure they are towards development and alignment with UN's SDG goals. In recent years security has been viewed in the context of securing the environment. Vulnerability Management (VM) in IT, Software and Technology areas is more of a static technology. However, the growing technology environment requires a combination of both static and dynamic technology. To stay relevant and current VM needs to match the dynamics of heterogeneous and a complex environment. The dynamic complex and a heterogenous environments include, cloud platforms, IT systems and the rise of IOT and various electronic devices. The various players in the VM value chain need to realize that the value of their platforms and/or solutions is in the intelligence that they are building to address the whole VM value chain, which is incident detection, log correlation, triage/investigation and remediation. In addition to attackers, lack of proper monitoring and controls implementation, and data breaches are some real challenges. One of the biggest challenges is the large amount of data that the heterogeneous environment has generated and how to accommodate and analyze this data. Researchers are using and working on analytics in the security sphere to create new rules, correlational aspects, trends and behavior patterns specifically related to area of vulnerability management. Vulnerability management analytics is one of the areas which researchers and practitioners are exploring solutions. A systematic review of literature is conducted to investigate the various problems, tools, technology and data. The study through the digital library of Amrita University and through online library database extracted from various respectable sources. The objective of this paper is to systematically review the literatures to identify published in vulnerability management as well as the analytics involved in the vulnerability management area. As part of the literatures the authors looked at research literatures and articles. The authors created a systematic review process as a method to review the various literatures. For the review process design the authors developed a matrix that has aggregated the various problems, use-cases, risks, technology applied, data, and the various tools. In the matrix the authors also focused on the best practices across the industry and the policies that have been developed and used across various industries. The authors also aggregated the various the above parameters across strategic, tactical and operational dimensions. The authors also expanded the dimensions across business, technology and people. The authors finally explore the reviews from detection, through prognosis, impact, solutions and finally into implementation. The authors could not explore the costs and the various cost-benefits. The authors aggregated the analysis of 150 recent empirical studies, published in the last 10 years, between 2008 and 2018. The literature review analysis also focused on exploring the existing underlying theories related to vulnerability management. With the focus on vulnerability management and the analytics related to vulnerability management the authors look at the insights, benefits and the utilizations of the various resources in the area of security.
