Brief Background: Tongue is one of the most vital organs associated with mastication, swallowing and speech. Oncologic management of advanced carcinoma of the tongue generate treatment dilemmas. Partial glossectomy or total glossectomy is planned depending on the extent of the tumor. Palatal augmentation prosthesis is indicated for patient with partial glossectomy. Materials and Methods: During try-in procedure speech assessment was done by the speech pathologist and necessary changes regarding addition or removal of wax from the palatal portion was carried out as per suggestion by the speech pathologists. Discussions: Palatal augmentation reshapes the hard palate to facilitate contact with tongue, contributing to improvement of speech The treatment planning must take into account the toothtissue support considerations and the altered environment on prosthesis support, stability and retention. Hollowing of the prosthesis lightens the prosthesis and makes it more acceptable for use. Summary and Conclusions: There is scarcity of reports about palatal augmentation prosthesis. This paper describes rehabilitation of a patients who had undergone partial glossectomy. Brief Background Maxillectomy often leaves residual defects. Maxillary defects are the most frequent of all intraoral defects. The article presents a case of prosthodontic rehabilitation of a patient having compromised edentulous maxillectomy defect. Additionally it also describes the impact of rehabilitation on the psychological status and speech assessment over a period of one year follow up. Material Prosthetic rehabilitation with obturator was the form of treatment modality advocated following maxillectomy. Impressions were made using irreversible hydrocolloid (Alginate). The improper fit was rectified by relining the prosthesis with chair side soft relining material. Discussion The use of relining material to improve retention and the attendant effect on speech and swallowing, its properties, hollowing of the prosthesis to lighten the goals of successful rehabilitation, etc., are matters that form the subject of discussion. Summary and Conclusions Prosthodontic rehabilitation of compromised defects helps improve speech and food intake, besides psychological status until more definite treatment is planned.
