Prominent Holocaust survivor and writer Elie Wiesel, who was president of the conference, and together with Charny co-founder of the Institute on the Holocaust and Genocide in Jerusalem, was alarmed by the threats to Jews. Two answers put forward in this book are Israel's realpolitik - denying the genocide so as not to harm relations with Turkey - and a conviction that recognising any other genocide diminishes the singularity of the Holocaust. In 1982, the author, an Israeli psychology professor and genocide expert, was among the organizers of the first international conference exploring the Holocaust and genocide.
