Introduction: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is an alarmingly increasingcondition from day to day andit is assumed that malnutrition is co-existent in patients withchronic renal failure (CRF). Malnutrition also occurs in pre-dialysis patients. Such patientshave reduced body weight, depleted fat (energy) stores, loss of somatic protein (low musclemass) and low levels of different plasma proteins like pre-albumin albumin, transferrin, andothers. Objective: To ascertain the frequency of malnutrition in dialysis independent patientsof chronic kidney disease. Setting: Department of nephrology, Jinnah Postgraduate MedicalCentre Karachi. Objectives: To determine the frequency of hypothyroidism in patients with viralhepatitis receiving interferon treatment. Study Design: Descriptive cross sectional. Setting:Department of Medicine, Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, Karachi. Duration of Study: Sixmonths. Subjects and Methods: All patients with age 30 to 60 years of either gender havingpersistent or intermittent elevation of alanine arninotransferase (ALT, the upper limit of normalALT is 40 IU/L) over a six-month period and Anti-HCV positivity and detection of HCV-RNA inthe sera On IFN-α mono therapy for more than 3 months were enrolled. History of duration ofdisease and treatment was obtained from patients. A 3 cc blood sample of Patients were drawnand send for TSH level. Presence of TSH level >4.0 miU/L was labelled as Hypothyroidism.Results: Mean age of the patients was 51.79±7.96 years. There were 51 (43.60%) males and 66(56.40%) females. Mean TSH level was 3.98±0.23 mIU/L. Mean duration of HCV was 6.42±1.67months. Mean duration of treatment was 5.42±1.67 months. Frequency of hypothyroidism wasfound in 62 (53%) patients. Conclusion: The frequency of hypothyroidism in patients with viralhepatitis receiving interferon treatment was found to be 62 (53%).

Objectives: To determine the outcome of vitamin deficiency in local populationof (Hyderabad), come with complaints of vague symptoms of body ache, bony pain with noco morbidity. Study design: cross-sectional study. Place and duration of study: OutpatientDepartment of Liquat University Medical Science, Hyderabad. Period: 6-2-2013 to 6-2-2015.Methodology: This is observational cross sectional study conducted at out patient’s department(LUMHS) city Hyderabad from 6-2-13 to 6-2-2015. Preliminary data was collected with the helpof self-administered questionnaires which include patient’s history and examination and bloodsample is taken for assessing level of dehydrocholecalciferol with serum calcium and routinetest. Data entered in spss 20 version, analytical software were applied for results in this study.Result: This study is conducted in 300 pts, among these 60% female and 36.7% male and 3.3%missing. Patients selected through (OPD) with consent and preformed proforma. Vitamin ddeficiency found nearly 96%in all the patient from young age to old age 4% were missing, lessthan 10 level found in 24.7%(severe deficiency), 10-20 level seen 54.7%(moderate deficiency)and 20-30 found in 14.7% (mild deficiency). Conclusion: my results shows that ( vitaminD-deficiency) is big dilemma in our community, give rise mild, moderate and severe decreasedlevel which leads complication which causing rickets in children and osteomalcia in adults,increase mortality and morbidity in local population.
