10. Photocatalytic degradation of 2,4-DNT in simulated wastewater by magnetic CoFe2O4/SiO2/TiO2 nanoparticles.

Abstract

Discharge of 2,4-dinitrotoluene (2,4-DNT) into the environment leads to a serious soil and water sources pollution problem, due to toxicity and possible carcinogenicity of this toxic substance. In this work, the photocatalytic degradation of 2,4-DNT was investigated using CoFe2O4/SiO2/TiO2 nanoparticles. The catalyst features were characterized by using XRD, TEM, EDX, UV-vis DRS, FTIR, and VSM techniques. The influence of different experimental factors on degradation efficiency including pH value, catalyst dosages, and initiate concentration of 2,4-DNT were investigated. Mineralization of the model pollutant was determined using TOC analysis under optimum conditions. A possible mechanism, process kinetic and reusability of magnetic photocatalyst were also performed. In optimum experimental conditions (pH=3, photocatalyst dosage=0.75 g/L, 2,4-DNT=0.025 g/L), degradation efficiency achieved 88.5% within 180-min reaction time with TOC removal of 55.6%. Dominate oxidizing radicals during the degradation of 2,4-DNT by CoFe2O4/SiO2/TiO2 were hydroxyl radicals. The photocatalytic degradation of 2,4-DNT followed first-order rate kinetics. After three successive use cycles, the degradation efficiency was reduced by 64%. Our results revealed that the synthesized CoFe2O4/SiO2/TiO2 photocatalyst was a good choice for degradation of 2,4-DNT, due to proper potential reusability and catalytic activity. Abstract

Bankaların ekonomilerin büyüme ve gelişmesinde ki rolüne bakıldığında, verimlilik konusu çok öneme sahiptir. Bu konu esas alınarak, araştırmada İran ve Türkiye'deki 2 özel bankanın işgücü verimliliğini etkileyen faktörlerin tespit edilmesi, karşılaştırması ve derecelendirilmesi amaçlanmıştır.Örneklemde Ankara İş Bankası ve Tahran Eqtesad-e-Novin Bankası şube çalışanlarına anket uygulanmıştır. Hazırlanan anket iki bölüme ayrılmıştır. Birinci bölüm dört sorudan (cins, pozisyon, tecrübe, eğitim) oluşmuştur.İkinci bölüm ise ikili karşılaştırmayla (yönetsel faktörler, toplumsal faktörler, kültürel faktörler, çevresel faktörler, kişisel faktörler) oluşturulmuştur. Yöntem olarak AHS yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Expert Choice programında veriler irdelenmiş ve incelenmiştir. İki bankanın verilerinin karşılaştırması için bağımsız T-test, SPSS yazılım ortamında kullanılmıştır. Sonuç olarak iş Bankası'nda işgücü verimliliğini etkileyen faktörlertoplumsal, bireysel, yönetimsel, çevresel ve kültürel faktörler olarak sıralanmıştır. Eqtesad-e-Novin Bankası'ndaki sıralama ise yönetim, toplumsal, kültürel, çevresel ve bireysel faktörler şeklindedir.Anahtar Kelimeler :Verimlilik, Banka,AHS Due to the critical role of banks in economic development, it is important to examine the factors that affect their productivity. The purpose of the present research was to identify, rank, and compare factors affecting human resource productivity in Iranian and Turkish banks. The population consisted of all the employees of the Istanbul Branch of Türkiye İş Bankası and Eqtesad Novin (EN) Bank in Tehran. A questionnaire was developed in two parts. The first part recorded demographic data (gender, position, experience, and education). The second part measured the factors affecting human resource productivity in five subscales, i.e. management factors, psychological and social factors, cultural factors, environmental factors, and personal factors. Cronbach's alphas of 0.882 and 0.891 were obtained for Türkiye İş Bankası and EN Bank respectively. Human resource productivity factors in these banks were ranked using AHP in Expert Choice Software. Also T-test was used in SPSS to compare the two banks. The results showed that the most important factors affecting labor productivity in Türkiye iş Bankası were Psychosocial, Individual, Management, Environmental, and Cultural factors respectively. In the EN Bank, the order of factors was: Management, Psychosocial, Cultural, Environmental, and Individual.Keywords : Productivity, Bank, AHP 114

Bilgi yönetimi avantajları göz önünde bulundurulduğunda, bilgi yönetimi başarıfaktörlerine ilişkin geniş bir liste hazırlanmıştır. Bu çalışmada, İran ve Türkiye'de bilgi yönetimi başarısındaki etkin faktörler sıralanmış ve mukayese edilmiştir. Çalışmada anket yöntemi kullanılmiştir. Çalışma, Ankara'da bulunanİş Bankası pilot şubesi ve Tahran'da Egtesad - e Novin Bankası'nın bir şubesi olmuştur. Anketler iki bölümde; dört soru (Cins, pozisyon, iş tecrübesi ve eğitim düzeyi) ve ikinci bölüm ise; ikili karşılaştırmalı sekiz etkin faktör (1. Stratejik, 2.üst yönetiminin desteklemesi, 3.kurum alt yapısı, 4. motivasyon, 5. insan kaynakları yönetimi 6.kültürel,7.idari süreç, 8. çalışanın yeteneği) işleme alınmıştır. İkinci bölümde, alt faktörlerin ikili karşılaştırması yapılmış, Analitik Hiyerarşi Süreci (AHS) modeli ile değerlendirilmiştir. Anketlerin iş bankasında Alfa yöntemi kullanılarak, 0.892 ve Egtesad-e-Novin bankası'nda ise 0.873 olarak hesaplanmıştır. Ayrıca ikili karşılaştırmalı yöntem AHS ve tabii ki Expert Choice programında T istatistiksel yöntemler ve SPSS metodu da kullanılmıştır. Tabii ki her temel faktörve alt faktörler iki bankanın bilgi yönetimi başarısı'nda etkin rol ifa etmişlerdir. Ancak etkilerin oranı her iki bankada farklıdır. The purpose of the present research was to identify, rank, and compare factors affecting knowledge management (KM) success in Turkish and Iranian banks. The second part measured the factors affecting KM success in eight subscales, i.e. strategy, support from top management, human resource management, organizational infrastructure, staff ability, administrative procedures, cultural factors, and motivational factors. Cronbach's alphas of 0.892 and 0.873 were obtained for EN Bank and Türkiye İş Bankası respectively. KM success factors in these banks were ranked using AHP in Expert Choice Software. Also t-test was used in SPSS to compare KM success in these banks. Abstract

Economic value added (EVA) is an important issue for economic analysts and investors. This article proposes a method for predicting economic value added of the automotive and steel listed companies on the Tehran Stock Exchange (TSE) using neural networks. The data were collected from the audited financial statements during 2006-2011. EVA was predicted using linear regression and neural networks and the results were compared with actual data. The findings suggested that neural networks method outperforms linear regression in predicting EVA.

Abstract

The association between Guanine Nucleotide Binding protein β protein polypeptide 3(GNB3) C825T polymorphism and obesity has recently been reported. However, the findings remain inconclusive. The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to detect the relationship between GNB3 C825T polymorphism and obesity. Materials and Methods: Six electronic databases including Embase, Medline, science direct and SID were investigated and searched for English articles, published before February 2016, which referred to the association between GNB3 C825T polymorphism and obesity. Pooled odds ratios (OR) with a 95% confidence interval (CI) were calculated in allele, recessive, dominant and additive genetic models to assess this association. Results: The findings demonstrated that GNB3 TT homozygote status was significantly associated with an increased risk of obesity compared with CC wild-type homozygote (TT vs. CC: OR= 1.237, 95% CI: 1.040- 1.472, P-value:0.016), while one mutation allele (TC) could not significantly increase the risk of obesity (TC vs. CC: OR= 0.91, 95% CI: 0.79- 1.05, P-value:0.207). Conclusion: Our meta-analysis suggested a significant association between the TT genotype of the GNB3 gene polymorphism and obesity risk. Thus, targeted healthcare should be strengthened with regard to this gene carrier in order to prevent obesity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The most important characteristic feature of contemporary organizations is their emphasis on management of knowledge and information as a means to improve efficiency. Due to the dynamic nature and interconnectedness of economics, different aspects of development have become critical for all the countries. Meanwhile, entrepreneurship is a multidirectional process that is required for both economic development and evolution through innovation and improvement. This paper aims to examine the driving factors of Knowledge Management (KM) and corporate entrepreneurship. Two questionnaires were used to collected the data on KM and entrepreneurship from a sample of 44 professors and managers of public and private firms. The data was analyzed using one-sample t-test in SPSS software. The results showed that firms employ information technology for transferring knowledge, and that respect for labor law increases efficiency. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Need for valuable experience and knowledge as well as support for graduates are the requirements of growth in societies. The purpose of the present research was to study the difference between the expected administrative and specialized skills of accounting graduates. This research was an applied study in which the data collected using a questionnaire and was analyzed suing Mann-Whitney U test and Kruskal- Wallis one-way ANOVA. The population of the research consisted of auditors, financial statement preparers, and financial statement users. The results showed significant differences between the expected and the actual skills of graduates. Also group comparison suggested significant differences in terms of the expected skills, but no significant difference was observed between these groups in their actual skills. Abstract

Highlights Polymer nanocomposites boast complex microstructures with instant control of final performance, including mechanical strength, thermal stability, and crystallinity. Although tremendous studies have been devoted to understanding the structure–property relation of polymer nanocomposites, the effect of simultaneous nanomaterial contents on binary polymers remains unclear. Here, we report how the microstructure and rheological characteristics are subject to change upon adding a hybrid multi‐walled carbon nanotube (CNT) and graphene nanoplatelet (GNP). We choose a refined binary system based on polypropylene (PP) as a commodity polymer with proven long‐standing applications, alongside ethylene‐butylene copolymer (EBC) with a random ethylene and butylene monomers orientation for better impact strength acquisition. Rheology and microscopy imaging support an adequate dispersion of both materials across the PP/EBC blend, similar to when a single‐particle nanocomposite is examined. Beyond investigating the heterogeneous nucleation role of CNT and GNP, the crystallinity rate and the half‐time parameter for completing the ordered transformation are calculated using the Avrami equations. The thermal stability as well as the mechanical properties of all nanocomposites reveal improved resilience under heat and external stress, leading to a rising trend in decomposition temperature, tensile strength, and modulus. Abstract

Discrete element method (DEM) has presented promising advantages in simulation of soil-machine/tool interaction. To develop reliable DEM simulations, selection and parametrization of a suitable contact model is crucial. The plate sinkage test is widely applied to characterize the soil behavior during compaction. This study aimed at setting up a DEM model for plate sinkage test using the hysteretic spring-linear cohesion contact model to (i) find the key parameters of the model which need to be calibrated and (ii) develop a calibration method for DEM parameters of the model for varying soil water content and bulk density of a cohesive soil. It was tested whether confined compression tests in combination with direct shear tests could be used to calibrate DEM parameters of the contact model. Soil cohesion and internal coefficient of friction were directly obtained and used from experimental direct shear test whereas particle yield strength was estimated by matching the stress-sinkage relationship of experimental and DEM-simulated confined compression tests. A clay loam soil at two water contents (11 and 16 %) and two dry bulk densities (1000 and 1150 kg m−3) was used to test the calibration method. Simulations using the parameterization obtained from the combination of confined compression and direct shear tests resulted in remarkable underestimation of plate sinkage. A satisfactory agreement with measurements was only found when the simulated cohesion and internal coefficient of friction were several times higher than measured. The factors were indicated to be constant with changes in soil water content and bulk density. A strong correlation was found between the particle yield strength and precompression stress estimated from confined compression tests. Using the factors obtained for increasing the cohesion and internal coefficient of friction and estimation of particle yield strength from precompression stress, a viable method for calibration of plate sinkage test could be proposed.
