Abstract

Collinear laser spectroscopy measurements were performed on $^{68-74}$Ge isotopes ($Z = 32$) at ISOLDE-CERN, by probing the $4s^2 4p^2 \, ^3\!P_1 \rightarrow 4s^2 4p 5s \, ^3\!P_1^o$ atomic transition (269~nm) of germanium. Nuclear charge radii are determined via the measured isotope shifts, revealing a larger local variation than the neighboring isotopic chains. Nuclear density functional theory with the Fayans functionals Fy($\Delta r$,HFB) and Fy(IVP), and the SV-min Skyrme describes the experimental data for the differential charge radii $\delta\langle r^{2} \rangle$ and charge radii $R_{\rm c}$ within the theoretical uncertainties. The observed large variation in the charge radii of germanium isotopes is better accounted for by theoretical models incorporating ground state quadrupole correlations. This suggests that the polarization effects due to pairing and deformation contribute to the observed large odd-even staggering in the charge radii of the Ge isotopic chain., Comment: 6 pages,5 figures

Abstract

The radiative lifetime of the $A$ $^2 \Pi_{1/2}$ (v=0) state in radium monofluoride (RaF) is measured to be 35(1) ns. The lifetime of this state and the related decay rate $\Gamma = 2.86(8) \times 10^7$ $s^{-1}$ are of relevance to the laser cooling of RaF via the optically closed $A$ $^2 \Pi_{1/2} \leftarrow X$ $^2\Sigma_{1/2}$ transition, which makes the molecule a promising probe to search for new physics. RaF is found to have a comparable photon-scattering rate to homoelectronic laser-coolable molecules. Thanks to its highly diagonal Franck-Condon matrix, it is expected to scatter an order of magnitude more photons than other molecules when using just 3 cooling lasers, before it decays to a dark state. The lifetime measurement in RaF is benchmarked by measuring the lifetime of the $8P_{3/2}$ state in Fr to be 83(3) ns, in agreement with literature., Comment: Accepted as a Letter in Physical Review A; 8 pages of main text, 5 pages of supplemental material

8. Investigations on the growth and antibacterial behaviour of bioactive creatininium hydrogen bromide (CRBr) single crystal

Abstract

The major aim is to synthesize a creatininium hydrogen bromide (CRBr) single crystal through a slow evaporation technique, and its antibacterial activity. According to Single Crystal X-ray Diffraction (SXRD) analysis, the generated crystal belongs to monoclinic structure and centrosymmetric space group P21/n. The optimized structural parameters explain the structural stability with NH…O, CH…O, and OH…O interactions. To verify the existence of intermolecular interactions, Hirshfeld surface analysis of a grown-up single crystal was carried out and that shows the stable nature of the molecule. Intermolecular and intramolecular hydrogen bonding, intermolecular charge transfer and delocalization of electron density can all be studied effectively by Natural Bond Orbital (NBO) analysis. In addition to examining the functional groups, the vibrational analysis gives the absorption peaks and bands associated with the formed crystal. The generated crystal has thermal stability up to 200 °C according to TG/DTA analysis. The material's electronic transition was determined by analyzing the UV–visible absorbance spectrum, showing an optical band gap of 4.2 eV and a lower cut-off wavelength of 265 nm. The charge transfer within the molecule has been elucidated using frontier molecular orbital analysis that shows its antibacterial properties. Molecular electrostatic surface analysis shows that excellent ICT interactions exist in the crystal lattice, where the positive potential is scattered throughout the creatinine portion and the negative region is dispersed on the bromine atom. Molecular docking has been used to examine the compound's antibacterial properties. In addition, the generated compound is tested for its in vitro antibacterial activity against several bacterial strains, including Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Serratia marcescens, Bacillus cereus, and Staphylococcus aureus. The above findings demonstrated the remarkable antibacterial effectiveness of the compound under study.

The study subjects were the mothers one month after giving birth, which were investigated by questionnaires retrospectively containing physical exercise (frequency, time, and primary exercise patterns) during pregnancy and each trimester. Individual time spent on exercise and energy expenditure were assessed based on the questionnaires. PTB was clinically defined as a newborn born on or before the last day of the 37th week. Adjusted odds ratios (OR) were estimated using logistic regression to assess the relationship between exercise during pregnancy and the risk of PTB. Variable selection for the multivariate models was guided by the directed acyclic graph. The median effect was analyzed by the sequential test.Results: The prevalence of PTB in this study was 4.38% (285/6501). The adjusted OR (95% CI) for the risk of PTB related to exercise during pregnancy was 0.74 (0.58– 0.95). During the 1st and 2nd trimesters, the ORs (95% CI) for 2.5 to 7 hours of exercise per week were 0.77 (0.59– 0.99) and 0.74 (0.57– 0.96). During the 3rd trimester, the ORs (95% CI) for 2.5 to 7 hours and more than 7 hours of exercise per week were 0.74 (0.56– 0.96) and 0.65 (0.44– 0.94). After stratifying the subjects, the association was only found among subjects without pregnancy complications. Pregnancy complications partially mediated (52.40%) the relationship between exercise during pregnancy and PTB.Conclusion: Exercise during pregnancy can reduce the risk of PTB for women without pregnancy complications. 2.5 to 7 hours of exercise (like walking) per week may be appropriate in three trimesters of pregnancy, and the time could be extended in the 3rd trimester.Keywords: pregnant women, exercise, trimester, mediation analysis

Among them, 85 patients underwent left hemihepatectomy (LH), while the remaining 235 underwent liver lobectomy (LL), which included left medial segmentectomy or left lateral sectionectomy. Perioperative complications, time to recurrence and overall survival (OS) were compared using propensity score matching.Results: LH resulted in a lower 5-year recurrence rate and higher 5-year OS rate than LL (56.5% vs 74.0%, p=0.002; 67.4% vs 53.5%, p=0.029). The LL group showed a higher tendency for early recurrence (ER) and intrahepatic recurrence (IR). The cumulative IR rates at 1- 3-, and 5-years for the LH group and the LL group were 17.0%, 36.7%, 45.1% and 33.8%, 57.1%, 63.7%, respectively, with a p-value of 0.007. There was no statistically significant difference in the cumulative ER rates between the two groups at 1-, 3-, and 5- years. Furthermore, the LH group and the LL group had similar perioperative complications, and no cases of liver failure occurred.Conclusion: LH, compared to LL, reduced the IR rate and ER rate in HCC patients with tumor adjacent to the left branch of the portal vein. Abstract

The electric quadrupole moment of $^{49}$Sc was measured by collinear laser spectroscopy at CERN-ISOLDE to be $Q_{\rm s}=-0.159(8)$ $e$b, and a nearly tenfold improvement in precision was reached for the electromagnetic moments of $^{47,49}$Sc. The single-particle behavior and nucleon-nucleon correlations are investigated with the electromagnetic moments of $Z=21$ isotopes and $N=28$ isotones as valence neutrons and protons fill the distinctive $0f_{7/2}$ orbit, respectively, located between magic numbers, 20 and 28. The experimental data are interpreted with shell-model calculations using an effective interaction, and ab-initio valence-space in-medium similarity renormalization group calculations based on chiral interactions. These results highlight the sensitivity of nuclear electromagnetic moments to different types of nucleon-nucleon correlations, and establish an important benchmark for further developments of theoretical calculations., Comment: Accepted by Physics Letters B (2022)

Abstract

We have constructed a collinear laser spectroscopy (CLS) system installed at the Beijing Radioactive Ion-beam Facility (BRIF), aiming to investigate the nuclear properties of unstable nuclei. The first on-line commissioning experiment of this system was performed using the continuous stable ($^{39}$K) and unstable ($^{38}$K) ion beams produced by impinging a 100-MeV proton beam on a CaO target. Hyperfine structure spectra of these two isotopes are reasonably reproduced, and the extracted magnetic dipole hyperfine parameters and isotope shift agree with the literature values. The on-line experiment demonstrates the overall functioning of this CLS system, opening new opportunities for laser spectroscopy measurement of unstable isotopes at BRIF and other radioactive ion beam facilities in China.

Abstract

Measurements of the $^2$H($^{16}$C,$^{16}$C$^{*}$$\rightarrow^4$He+$^{12}$Be or $^6$He+$^{10}$Be)$^2$H inelastic excitation and cluster-decay reactions have been carried out at a beam energy of about 23.5 MeV/u. A specially designed detection system, including one multi-layer silicon-strip telescope at around zero degrees, has allowed the high-efficiency three-fold coincident detection and therefore the event-by-event determination of the energy of the unstable nucleus beam. The decay paths from the $^{16}$C resonances to various states of the final $^{10}$Be or $^{12}$Be nucleus are recognized thanks to the well-resolved $Q$-value spectra. The reconstructed resonances at 16.5(1), 17.3(2), 19.4(1) and 21.6(2) MeV are assigned as the $0^+$, $2^+$, $4^+$ and $6^+$ members, respectively, of the positive-parity $(3/2_\pi^-)^2(1/2_\sigma^-)^2$-bond linear-chain molecular band in $^{16}$C, based on the angular correlation analysis for the 16.5 MeV state and the excellent agreement of decay patterns between the measurements and theoretical predictions. Moreover, another intriguing high-lying state was observed at 27.2(1) MeV which decays almost exclusively to the $\sim$6 MeV states of $^{10}$Be, in line with the newly predicted pure $\sigma$-bond linear-chain configuration., Comment: 13 pages, 10 figures

Patients were divided into single vitrectomy group (control group, n=202) and revitrectomy group (case group, n=36) for analysis. The indications, number, and timing of revitrectomies were documented. And the revitrectomy group was further divided into two vitrectomies group (n=30) and three or more vitrectomies group (n=6). The best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) at the last follow-up and the occurrence of neovascular glaucoma (NVG) were compared among the single vitrectomy, two vitrectomies and three or more vitrectomies groups. We conducted a thorough collection of patient data and used univariate and binary logistic regression analyses to identify the risk factors associated with revitrectomy.Results: A total of 197 patients (238 eyes) were included. Thirty-six eyes (15.1%) required revitrectomy with six eyes (2.5%) undergoing three or more vitrectomies during the follow-up period. The median duration of the second vitrectomy was 3 (2– 6) months. The indications for a second vitrectomy included 28 eyes (77.8%) of postoperative vitreous hemorrhage and 7 eyes (22.2%) combined with tractional retinal detachment. Patients undergoing three or more vitrectomies had significantly worse postoperative BCVA and a higher incidence of NVG (P< 0.01). Fibrinogen> 4 g/L (P< 0.001) and preoperative anti-vascular endothelial growth factor intravitreal injection (P=0.015) were independent risk factors for revitrectomy, and glycated hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c)> 10% (P=0.049) showed significant difference only in univariate analysis.Conclusion: Patients requiring revitrectomy tended to have higher fibrinogen levels, tightly adhered fibrovascular membranes, higher HbA1c levels, and worse prognoses.Keywords: proliferative diabetic retinopathy, vitreous hemorrhage, revitrectomy, fibrinogen, retinal ischemia

Abstract

Two types of wedge-shaped CsI(Tl)s were designed to be placed behind the annular double-sided silicon detectors (ADSSDs) to identify the light charged particles with the $\Delta E-E$ method. The properties of CsI(Tl)s with different shapes and sizes, such as energy resolution, light output non-uniformity and particle identification capability, were compared by using a $\alpha$-source and a radioactive beam of $^{15}$C. The big-size CsI(Tl) was finally adopted to form the $\Delta E-E$ telescope due to better properties. The property differences of these two types of CsI(Tl)s can be interpreted based on the Geant4 simulation results.

Abstract

Experimental results of the $p(^{13}{\rm B},d)^{12}{\rm B}$ transfer reaction to the low-lying states in $^{12}$B are reported. The optical potential parameters for the entrance channel are extracted from the elastic scattering $p$($^{13}{\rm B}$, $p$) measured in the same experiment, while those for the exit channel are global ones. Spectroscopic factors associated with the $p$-, $s$-, and $d$-wave neutron transfer to the known $^{12}$B states, are extracted by comparing the deuteron angular distributions with the calculation results. The separated $s$- and $d$-wave intruder strengths in $^{13}{\rm B}_{\rm g.s.}$ were determined to be $10(2)\%$ and $6(1)\%$, respectively, which follow roughly the systematics for the $N$ = 8 neutron-rich isotones. The measured total intruder strength is in good agreement with the shell model calculation, while the individual ones evolve quite differently. Particularly, the sudden change of the $d$-wave intensity between $^{13}$B and $^{12}$Be needs further theoretical interpretation., Comment: 8 pages,8 figures

Second, the effects of chidamide and oxaliplatin monotherapy and the combined treatment on cell proliferation, invasion, migration, and apoptosis were detected. Third, whole-transcriptome RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) was performed to seek the potential targeted gene by which chidamide plus oxaliplatin exerted anti-tumor effects. Fourth, the validation of the targeted gene and the signal pathway it regulated were performed. Finally, the anti-tumor effect of chidamide plus oxaliplatin on mice xenograft was examined.Results: Chidamide and oxaliplatin acted synergistically to inhibit CRC growth in vitro and in vivo (CI< 1). Besides, compared with oxaliplatin monotherapy, chidamide could significantly enhance oxaliplatin-induced inhibition in cell proliferation, invasion, and migration, and promotion in HCT-116 and RKO cell apoptosis (P< 0.05). The RNA-seq displayed that, compared to oxaliplatin monotherapy, RPS27A mRNA was evidently decreased in HCT-116 cells treated with chidamide plus oxaliplatin (P< 0.001). Then, we found RPS27A was highly expressed in CRC tissues and CRC cell lines (P< 0.001). Silence of RPS27A attenuated proliferation and induced apoptosis in HCT-116 and RKO cells via downregulation of MDM2 expression and upregulation of P53. Next, RPS27A overexpression could partially reverse chidamide plus oxaliplatin induced growth inhibition and apoptosis in HCT-116 and RKO cells (P< 0.01). RPS27A overexpression could promote the upregulation of MDM2 and downregulation of P53 after the combined treatment of chidamide with oxaliplatin.Conclusion: Chidamide and oxaliplatin acted synergistically to suppress CRC growth by the inhibition of the RPS27A-MDM2-p53 axis.Keywords: chidamide, oxaliplatin, colorectal cancer, synergism

Abstract

Nuclear charge radii are sensitive probes of different aspects of the nucleon-nucleon interaction and the bulk properties of nuclear matter; thus, they provide a stringent test and challenge for nuclear theory. The calcium region has been of particular interest, as experimental evidence has suggested a new magic number at $N = 32$ [1-3], while the unexpectedly large increases in the charge radii [4,5] open new questions about the evolution of nuclear size in neutron-rich systems. By combining the collinear resonance ionization spectroscopy method with $\beta$-decay detection, we were able to extend the charge radii measurement of potassium ($Z =19$) isotopes up to the exotic $^{52}$K ($t_{1/2}$ = 110 ms), produced in minute quantities. Our work provides the first charge radii measurement beyond $N = 32$ in the region, revealing no signature of the magic character at this neutron number. The results are interpreted with two state-of-the-art nuclear theories. For the first time, a long sequence of isotopes could be calculated with coupled-cluster calculations based on newly developed nuclear interactions. The strong increase in the charge radii beyond $N = 28$ is not well captured by these calculations, but is well reproduced by Fayans nuclear density functional theory, which, however, overestimates the odd-even staggering effect. These findings highlight our limited understanding on the nuclear size of neutron-rich systems, and expose pressing problems that are present in some of the best current models of nuclear theory., Comment: submitted version; revision accepted in Nature Physics

Abstract

Collinear laser spectroscopy measurements were performed on $^{69,71,73}$Ge isotopes ($Z = 32$) at ISOLDE-CERN. The hyperfine structure of the $4s^2 4p^2 \, ^3P_1 \rightarrow 4s^2 4p 5s \, ^3P_1^o$ transition of the germanium atom was probed with laser light of 269 nm, produced by combining the frequency-mixing and frequency-doubling techniques. The hyperfine fields for both atomic levels were calculated using state-of-the-art atomic relativistic Fock-space coupled-cluster calculations. A new $^{73}$Ge quadrupole moment was determined from these calculations and previously measured precision hyperfine parameters, yielding $Q_{\rm s}$ = $-$0.198(4) b, in excellent agreement with the literature value from molecular calculations. The moments of $^{69}$Ge have been revised: $\mu$ = +0.920(5) $\mu_{N}$ and $Q_{\rm s}$= +0.114(8) b, and those of $^{71}$Ge have been confirmed. The experimental moments around $N = 40$ are interpreted with large-scale shell-model calculations using the JUN45 interaction, revealing rather mixed wave function configurations, although their $g$-factors are lying close to the effective single-particle values. We aimed to investigate the association between experienced long working hours and depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation among Chinese medical residents during the COVID-19 pandemic.Methods: This study was conducted in September 2022; 1343 residents from three center in Northeastern China were included in the final analysis (effective response rate: 87.61%). The data were collected from participants via online self-administered questionnaires. Depression and anxiety were measured by the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) and the General Anxiety Disorder (GAD-7) scale, respectively. Adjusted odds ratios and 95% confidence intervals were determined after adjusting for potential confounders by binary unconditional logistic regression.Results: The effective response rate was 87.61%. Among the 1343 participants, 12.88% (173), 9.90% (133), and 9.68% (130) had experienced major depression, major anxiety, and suicidal ideation, respectively. We found that longer weekly worktime increased the risk of major depression, particularly in those who worked for more than 60 hours per week (≥ 61 hours vs ≤ 40 hours, OR=1.87, P for trend = 0.003). However, this trend was not observed for either major anxiety or suicidal ideation (P for trend > 0.05 for both).Conclusion: This study revealed that there was a considerable incidence of poor mental health among medical residents; furthermore, the longer weekly worktime was associated with a higher risk of major depression, especially for those who worked more than 60 hours per week, but this association was not observed in either major anxiety or suicidal ideation. Abstract

An inelastic excitation and cluster-decay experiment $\rm {^2H}(^{16}C,~{^{4}He}+{^{12}Be}~or~{^{6}He}+{^{10}Be}){^2H}$ was carried out to investigate the linear-chain clustering structure in neutron-rich $\rm {^{16}C}$. For the first time, decay-paths from the $\rm {^{16}C}$ resonances to various states of the final nuclei were determined, thanks to the well-resolved $Q$-value spectra obtained from the three-fold coincident measurement. The close-threshold resonance at 16.5 MeV is assigned as the ${J^\pi}={0^+}$ band head of the predicted positive-parity linear-chain molecular band with ${(3/2_\pi^-)^2}{(1/2_\sigma^-)^2}$ configuration, according to the associated angular correlation and decay analysis. Other members of this band were found at 17.3, 19.4, and 21.6 MeV based on their selective decay properties, being consistent with the theoretical predictions. Another intriguing high-lying state was observed at 27.2 MeV which decays almost exclusively to $\rm {^{6}He}+{^{10}Be{(\sim6~ MeV)}}$ final channel, corresponding well to another predicted linear-chain structure with the pure $\sigma$-bond configuration., Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures

We propose an agent-based model, MNegoti, for simulating multilateral negotiation process, which can be naturally employed in group decision support system. This model can also be applied to any use case in which negotiation is involved, in order to simulate the negotiation process. In this report, we discuss the implementation of the MNegoti model on the basis of the agent-based simulation platform, Repast Simphony. It is worth pointing out that this model can be used to create a java module for any use of agent-based negotiation simulation.

In its first 2 years of operation, the ground-based Terrestrial gamma ray flash and Energetic Thunderstorm Rooftop Array(TETRA)-II array of gamma ray detectors has recorded 22 bursts of gamma rays of millisecond-scale duration associated with lightning. In this study, we present the TETRA-II observations detected at the three TETRA-II ground-level sites in Louisiana, Puerto Rico, and Panama together with the simultaneous radio frequency signals from the VAISALA Global Lightning Data set, VAISALA National Lightning Detection Network, Earth Networks Total Lightning Network, and World Wide Lightning Location Network. The relative timing between the gamma ray events and the lightning activity is a key parameter for understanding the production mechanism(s) of the bursts. The gamma ray time profiles and their correlation with radio sferics suggest that the gamma ray events are initiated by lightning leader activity and are produced near the last stage of lightning leader channel development prior to the lightning return stroke., Comment: 10 pages, 9 figures

Abstract

Li metal anode coupled with solid-state electrolyte is regarded as an important step for next-generation high-energy batteries to boost the performance of electric vehicles. However, commercialization of Li metal anode in all-solid-state batteries have faced challenges, one of which is the interfacial instability originated during battery operation. To overcome the difficulties in characterizing such interfaces due to their sensitivity to beam and ambient air, we applied cryogenic electron microscopy to unravel the stable nature of Li metal/LiPON interface that has exhibited remarkable electrochemical cyclability. An 80-nm-thick interphase with concentration gradients of N and P was observed, with decomposition products embedded in an amorphous matrix and exhibiting a multilayer-mosaic structure. The findings and methodology in this work give rise to a mechanistic understanding of the stability of Li metal/LiPON interface and can then be extended to study other solid-solid interfaces.

Abstract

Understanding the sources of lunar water is crucial for studying the history of lunar evolution, and also the solar wind interaction with the Moon and other airless bodies. Recent observations revealed lunar hydration is very likely a surficial dynamic process driven by solar wind. Solar wind is shielded over a period of 3-5 days as the Moon passes through the Earth's magnetosphere, during which a significant loss of hydration is expected from previous works.Here we study lunar hydration inside the magnetosphere using orbital spectral data, which unexpectedly found that the polar surficial OH/H2O abundance remains at the same level when in the solar wind and in the magnetosphere. We suggest that particles from the magnetosphere (Earth wind, naturally different from solar wind) contribute to lunar hydration. From lunar orbital plasma observations, we find the existence of optimal energy ranges, other than 1 keV as previously thought, for surface hydration formation. These optimal energy ranges deduced from space observations may provide strong implications for laboratory experiments simulating lunar hydration processes.

Data were collected using the Health Beliefs Questionnaire, Self-efficacy for Diabetes, and Medication Compliance Questionnaire. Laboratory parameters included HbA1c, fasting blood glucose, postprandial blood glucose, total cholesterol, triglyceride, high-density-lipoprotein cholesterol, and low-density-lipoprotein cholesterol levels. Correlation, linear regression, and mediation analyses were performed using SPSS 27.0.Results: HbA1c levels were higher in men (women vs men: 6.80% [6.08%, 7.73%] vs.7.30% [6.30%, 9.18%]) and employed (employed vs not employed vs retired: 7.60% [6.90%, 10.45%] vs 5.85% [5.40%, 6.95%] vs 7.10% [6.20%, 8.20%]) and low self-efficacy (low vs high: 13.1% [6.55%, 13.85%] vs 6.8% [6.10%, 7.70%]). HbA1c levels were negatively associated with health beliefs (r = − 0.246) and self-efficacy (r = − 0.240; p< 0.01). Linear regression showed that perceived susceptibility, severity, benefit, and barriers, cues to action, and self-efficacy explained 50% of the variance in HbA1c levels after adjusting for sex and current work status. The mediation effect of self-efficacy was partial between health beliefs and HbA1c levels and accounted for 24.65% of the total effect (p < 0.001).Conclusion: Health beliefs influenced the improvement of self-efficacy in older patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus, which in turn could improve HbA1c control. Abstract

In circular colliders, as well as in damping rings and synchrotron radiation light sources, beam halo is one of the critical issues limiting the performance as well as potentially causing component damage and activation. It is imperative to clearly understand the mechanisms that lead to halo formation and to test the available theoretical models. Elastic beam-gas scattering can drive particles to large oscillation amplitudes and be a potential source of beam halo. In this paper, numerical estimation and Monte Carlo simulations of this process at the ATF of KEK are presented. Experimental measurements of beam halo in the ATF2 beam line using a diamond sensor detector are also described, which clearly demonstrates the influence of the beam-gas scattering process on the transverse halo distribution.

Abstract

Magnetic holes (MHs), with a scale much greater than \r{ho}i (proton gyroradius), have been widely reported in various regions of space plasmas. On the other hand, kinetic-size magnetic holes (KSMHs), previously called small size magnetic holes (SSMHs), with a scale of the order of magnitude of or less than \r{ho}i have only been reported in the Earth's magnetospheric plasma sheet. In this study, we report such KSMHs in the magnetosheath whereby we use measurements from the Magnetospheric Multiscale (MMS) mission, which provides three-dimensional (3D) particle distribution measurements with a resolution much higher than previous missions. The MHs have been observed in a scale of 10 ~ 20 \r{ho}e (electron gyroradii) and lasted 0.1 ~ 0.3 s. Distinctive electron dynamics features are observed, while no substantial deviations in ion data are seen. It is found that at the 90{\deg} pitch angle, the flux of electrons with energy 34 ~ 66 eV decreased while for electrons of energy 109 ~ 1024 eV increased inside the MHs. We also find the electron flow vortex perpendicular to the magnetic field, a feature self-consistent with the magnetic depression. Moreover, the calculated current density is mainly contributed by the electron diamagnetic drift, and the electron vortex flow is the diamagnetic drift flow. Abstract

Studies have reported on the regulation of clonal growth in Chinese sea buckthorn in response to environmental resource availability, but these studies have been limited to external mechanisms. In this report, we controlled irrigation to generate a soil moisture gradient in order to examine the photosynthetic physiological mechanisms regulating clonal growth in this species. The results indicated that as irrigation intensity increased, the soil water content increased vertically and tissue water content first increased and then decreased. Furthermore, Rubisco activase (RCA) and Mg-chelatase H subunit (CHLH) gene expression levels, photosynthetic capacity (net photosynthetic rate, transpiration rate, chlorophyll content, and stomatal conductance), and clonal growth (ramet growth, clonal proliferation, clonal propagation) all showed a quadratic parabolic change (i.e., first increasing and then decreasing). In addition, gene expression levels and tissue water content, photosynthetic capacity and gene expression levels, and clonal growth and photosynthetic capacity were all significantly positively correlated. When irrigation intensity (soil water content) is exceedingly low or high, the tissue water content is also low, RCA and CHLH gene expression levels are low, photosynthetic capacity is weak, clonal growth ability is inhibited, and clonal growth layout tends toward the “guerrilla type.” This type manifests as fewer and smaller clonal daughter ramets that are sparsely distributed with reduced clonal organ extension ability and branching intensity. When irrigation intensity (soil water content) is moderate, the tissue water content, gene expression levels, and photosynthetic capacity is high, clonal growth ability is completely uninhibited, and the clonal growth layout tends toward the “aggregated type.” This type is associated with numerous large clonal daughter ramets that are densely distributed with high clonal organ extension ability and branching intensity. Therefore, as irrigation intensity continuously changes from inordinately low to moderate to exceedingly high, Chinese sea buckthorn regulates clonal growth by photosynthetic capacity through photosynthetic gene expression. This results in a clonal growth layout continuum of “guerrilla-aggregated-guerrilla” that depends on irrigation intensity.

Thus, the combined application of serum metabolomics and fecal microbial communities was used to identify gut microbiota-derived inflammation-related serum metabolites as potential biomarkers for MDD.Methods: MDD patients and healthy controls (HCs) were included in this study. Both serum samples and fecal samples were collected. The liquid chromatography mass spectrometry (LC-MS) was used to detect the metabolites in serum samples, and the 16S rRNA gene sequencing was used to analyze the gut microbiota compositions in fecal samples.Results: Totally, 60 MDD patients and 60 HCs were recruited. The 24 differential serum metabolites were identified, and 10 of these were inflammation-related metabolites. Three significantly affected inflammation-related pathways were identified using differential metabolites. The 17 differential genera were identified, and 14 of these genera belonged to phyla Firmicutes. Four significantly affected inflammation-related pathways were identified using differential genera. Five inflammation-related metabolites (LysoPC(16:0), deoxycholic acid, docosahexaenoic acid, taurocholic acid and LysoPC(20:0)) were identified as potential biomarkers. These potential biomarkers had significant correlations with genera belonged to phyla Firmicutes. The panel consisting of these biomarkers could effectively distinguish MDD patients from HCs with an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.95 in training set and 0.92 in testing set.Conclusion: These findings suggested that the disturbance of phyla Firmicutes might be involved in the onset of depression by regulating host’s inflammatory response, and these potential biomarkers could be useful for future investigating the objective methods for diagnosing MDD.Keywords: major depressive disorder, gut microbiota, biomarkers, inflammation, metabolite
