Pancreatic cancer (PanCa) is one of the deadliest cancers, with limited therapeutic response. Various molecular oncogenic events, including dysregulation of ribosome biogenesis, are linked to the induction, progression, and metastasis of PanCa. Thus, the discovery of new therapies suppressing these oncogenic events and ribosome biogenesis could be a novel therapeutic approach for the prevention and treatment of PanCa. The current study was designed to investigate the anti-cancer effect of honey against PanCa. Our results indicated that honey markedly inhibited the growth and invasive characteristics of pancreatic cancer cells by suppressing the mRNA expression and protein levels of key components of ribosome biogenesis, including RNA Pol-I subunits (RPA194 and RPA135) along with its transcriptional regulators, i.e., UBTF and c-Myc. Honey also induced nucleolar stress in PanCa cells by reducing the expression of various nucleolar proteins (NCL, FBL, and NPM). Honey-mediated regulation on ribosome biogenesis components and nucleolar organization-associated proteins significantly arrested the cell cycle in the G2M phase and induced apoptosis in PanCa cells. These results, for the first time, demonstrated that honey, being a natural remedy, has the potential to induce apoptosis and inhibit the growth and metastatic phenotypes of PanCa by targeting ribosome biogenesis.

Objective: To examine the risk and preventive factors of working in a cement plant., Methods: The cross-sectional study was conducted from July to September, 2016, at a leading cement manufacturing plant in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan. An interviewer-administered questionnaire was used to collect data about the characteristics of exposed and unexposed subjects. The characteristics and occupational illnesses were compared between exposed and unexposed workers. Logistic regression was applied to estimate the odds ratio for risk and preventive factors associated with pulmonary illnesses linked with the profession., Results: Of the 550 workers contacted, 260(47.3%) agreed to participate. The mean age of the sample was 30.48}6.13 years. Of the total, 80(31%) were exposed and 180(69%) were unexposed. Overall, 96(37%) workers had medical coverage facility, while 114(63%) reported very good health. All socioeconomic and working characteristics were highly significant between exposed and unexposed workers (p<0.05). There were 67(25.7%) workers with pulmonary illnesses and the difference between the exposed and unexposed groups were significant (p<0.05)., Conclusions: Pulmonary health among workers could be improved by implementing occupational health improving strategies..

Objective: To compare the mean change of tooth movement in canine retraction between elastic module and Ni Ti coil spring., Study Design: Comparative study., Place and Duration of Study: Orthodontics Department, Armed Forces Institute of Dentistry, Rawalpindi, from May 2015 to January 2016., Methodology: Thirty-two patients were inducted. After alignment and extraction of maxillary first premolars, canine retraction was started with closed Ni Ti coil spring on one side of the maxillary arch and with active tie back on the other side. The distance between the lateral incisor and the canine was measured on both sides before starting canine retraction. The same measurements were recorded after four weeks of retraction. The difference between pre and post retraction measurements was recorded. The difference in the rate of canine retraction between both modalities was compared using independent sample t-test., Results: The study included 56% females and 43% males. The mean rate of tooth movement in Ni Ti coil group and in the elastomeric module group was 1.1 mm and 0.7 mm in one month, respectively (p=0.05)., Conclusion: The rate of tooth movement is more rapid with Ni Ti coil spring than with the elastomeric module.

Objective: To reduce postoperative pain by using additional analgesic agent in between the usual parenteral analgesia that is used in the postoperative period in surgical patients., Methods: The double-blind, randomised control intervention was conducted from June to November 2015 at Rehman Medical Institute, Peshawar, Pakistan, and comprised postoperative surgical patients of either gender aged 18 or more who had undergone uneventful elective surgery The subjects were divided into test and placebo groups. In the test group, 1gm acetaminophen was additionally prescribed, while in the control group placebo (starch) was administered. Demographics were noted and pain score was recorded using three internationally validated pain scales; Verbal pain intensity scale, Visual analogue scale, and Numeric pain scale. SPSS version 15.0 is used for calculation. Data was collected twice over 48 hours., Results: Out of 220 patients, 165(75 %) were male with mean age 31.5±1.93 years and 55(25%) were female with mean age 31.5±1.48 years. There were 118(53.6%) patients in the test group and 102(43.4%) in the control group. In the first 24 hours the cumulative pain score, from numeric pain scale and visual analogue scale, for the control group showed 5(4.90%) patients had no pain, 39(38.24%) had mild pain, 52(50.98%) moderate pain and 6(5.80%) had severe pain. In the test group, 13(11.02%) reported no pain, 83(70.34%) had mild pain, 19(16%) had moderate pain while 3(2.54%) complained of severe pain. In the next 48 hours cumulative pain score in the test group showed 44(37.29%)subjects had no pain, 67(56.78%) had mild pain, 6(5.08%) had moderate pain, 1(0.85%) had severe pain, while in the control group 10(10%) had no pain, 56(55%) had mild pain, 33(32%) had moderate pain and 3(3%) had severe pain. ., Conclusions: Additional acetaminophen reduced mild to moderate pain between two doses of parenteral analgesia.
