With the increasing awareness of healthy diet and environmental protection, plant-based meat products have been rapidly developed at home and abroad. The objective of this study was to examine how the ratio of pea tissue protein to gluten, along with the additions of sweet potato starch, rapeseed oil, and red yeast red, affected the sensory scores and chewiness of plant-based meat. On the basis of single factor experiments, the plant-based formula was optimized using Box Behnken response surface methodology and texture analysis, and the optimal formula was tested for physicochemical indicators and in vitro digestion tests. The results showed that the ratio of pea tissue protein to gluten was 7:3 (g/g), along with 6% sweet potato starch, 10% rapeseed oil, and 0.03% safflower red, resulted in plant-based meat with favorable sensory scores (88.31) and chewability (3.131). The protein content of the plant-based meat obtained from the optimal formula was 15.70%, the fat content was 2.33%, and the moisture content was 57.79%. According to texture analysis, there were significant differences in hardness, adhesiveness, and chewiness between plant meat and pork loin, beef, and chicken, in addition to elasticity. The results of in vitro digestion analysis showed that the protein digestibility of plant meat was 80.83%, while that of beef was 87.50%. The difference between the two was small, indicating that plant meat had good digestion ability. The plant meat made from pea tissue protein provides reference materials for further development, application, and other related industries.

Frequent natural disasters challenge relief network efficiency. This paper introduces a stochastic relief network with limited path capacity, develops an equilibrium model based on cumulative prospect theory, and formulates it as a stochastic variational inequality problem to enhance emergency response and resource allocation efficiency. Using the NCP function, Lagrange function, and random variables, the model dynamically monitors disasters, enabling rational resource allocation for quick decision-making. Compared to traditional methods, our model significantly improves resource scheduling and reduces disaster response costs. Through a random network example, we validate the model's effectiveness in aiding intelligent decision-making for relief plans and resource allocation optimization.

Abstract Background Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection is associated with an elevated incidence of cervical cancer, and accelerated disease progression, but the underlying mechanisms are not well understood. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between HIV infection and epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT) in cervical cancer. Methods Tissue samples from HIV-positive and negative patients with cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) and cervical cancer were analyzed for EMT-related proteins. Human cervical cancer SiHa cells were treated with HIV Tat and gp120 proteins to test their effects on EMT, migration, and invasion. Results HIV-positive patients had lower E-cadherin and cytokeratin, and higher N-cadherin and vimentin levels than HIV-negative patients. HIV Tat and gp120 proteins induced EMT, migration, and invasion in SiHa cells. Transcriptome sequencing analysis revealed that, compared to the control group, the protein-treated group showed upregulation of 22 genes and downregulation of 77 genes. Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) enrichment analyses revealed the involvement of the Wnt signaling pathway in EMT. Further analysis of gene expression related to this pathway revealed upregulation of DVL1, TCF7, KRT17, and VMAC, while GSK3β, SFRP2, and CDH1 were downregulated. Immunofluorescence assay demonstrated that HIVgp120 and Tat proteins treatment induced elevated β-catenin expression with nuclear accumulation in SiHa cells. Conclusions The treatment of SiHa cells with HIV Tat and gp120 proteins induces EMT and activates the Wnt/β-catenin pathway, suggesting that the Wnt/β-catenin pathway may play a crucial role in promoting EMT progression in cervical lesion tissues of HIV-infected patients.

This paper studies the process mineralogy, mechanism, and kinetics of column leaching behavior of low-grade high-calcium–magnesium copper ore. The effect of sulfuric acid concentration, leach solution spraying intensity, and material particle size on column leaching kinetics is discussed. The kinetic analysis of column leaching of copper indicates that sulfuric acid concentration has a significant impact. As sulfuric acid concentration increases, the limiting step of reaction shifts from chemical reaction control to a combination of chemical reaction and diffusion mixing control. Spraying intensity also affects copper column leaching; increasing intensity shifts the limiting step from diffusion control to mixing control, thereby mitigating the effects of diffusion control. Regarding other elements, it is found that iron leaching is primarily controlled by chemical reaction, while calcium leaching is mainly controlled by chemical reaction. As sulfuric acid concentration increases from 10 g/L to 20 g/L, the limiting step for calcium leaching shifts from chemical reaction control to chemical reaction and diffusion-mixing control.

The massive accumulation of red mud (RM) and the abuse of antibiotics pose a threat to environment safety and human health. In this study, we synthesized RM-based Prussian blue (RM-PB) by acid solution-coprecipitation method to activate H2O2 to degrade norfloxacin, which reached about 90% degradation efficiency at pH 5 within 60 min and maintained excellent catalytic performance over a wide pH range (3−11). Due to better dispersion and unique pore properties, RM-PB exposed more active sites, thus the RM-PB/H2O2 system produced more reactive oxygen species. As a result, the removal rate of norfloxacin by RM-PB/H2O2 system was 8.58 times and 2.62 times of that by RM/H2O2 system and PB/H2O2 system, respectively. The reactive oxygen species (ROS) produced in the degradation process included ·OH, ·O2- and 1O2, with 1O2 playing a dominant role. The formation and transformation of these ROS was accompanied by the Fe(III)/Fe(II) cycle, which was conducive for the sustained production of ROS. The RM-PB/H2O2 system maintained a higher degradation efficiency after five cycles, and the material exhibited strong stability, with a low iron leaching concentration. Further research showed the degradation process was less affected by Cl-, SO42-, NO3-, and humic acids, but was inhibited by HCO3- and HPO42-. In addition, we also proposed the possible degradation pathway of norfloxacin. This work is expected to improve the resource utilization rate of RM and achieve treating waste with waste.

Dendrobium offcinale was used as the main raw material, and erythritol, citric acid and gelatin were used as auxiliary ingredients to make Dendrobium offcinale fondant. Using sensory evaluation as the index, single-factor experiments and response surface experiments were used to study the optimal production process and formulation of Dendrobium offcinale fondant. Then, the in vitro antioxidant activity of the fondant was illustrated by the determination of the scavenging of DPPH radicals and superoxide anion radicals and their reducing ability of the optimal Dendrobium offcinale fondant, meanwhile, the textural properties of Dendrobium offcinale fondant were determined. The results showed that the addition of 92.90% of Dendrobium offcinale, 18.30% of gelatin, 0.14% of citric acid and 29.20% of erythritol was the best, and the sensory score was 83.50 at that time. The reducing sugar and polyphenol contents of Dendrobium offcinale fondant made according to the optimal formulation were analyzed as 30.03 g/100 g and 0.85 mg/g. Respectively, the results of in vitro antioxidant analysis showed that the in vitro antioxidant activity of Dendrobium offcinale fondant was similar to that of VC, and the half effective concentration (IC50) of Dendrobium offcinale fondant against 1,1-diphenyl-2-trinitrophenylhydrazine (DPPH) radical was 0.50 mg/mL and the IC50 value for the scavenging superoxide anion radicals was 0.13 mg/mL, which could prove that Dendrobium offcinale fondant had good antioxidant ability. The results of texture analysis concluded that the hardness of Dendrobium offcinale fondant ranged from 4600 to 4800 g, with suitable softness and hardness, the chewiness of Dendrobium offcinale fondant ranged from 4200 to 4300 g, and the acceptability was higher.

The Indo-Pacific, a vast biogeographic of Earth, is influenced by both the Indian and East Asian monsoons. Despite its geographical importance, this region has been less studied compared to East Asia and India. Here, we present speleothem records from southern Thailand that cover the last 1500 years, including a hiatus during the Little Ice Age, providing insights into the interactions among climate dynamics, human influences, and ecological responses to climate change. Notably, our records lack the characteristic cold and warm periods observed in other regions, such as the Dark Ages Cold Period and Medieval Warm Period, which may reflect the complexity of the tropical climate system or the region’s unique topography. The analysis reveals a link between ENSO multi-decadal variability and hydroclimate conditions in southern Thailand, as evidenced by speleothem δ18O. Furthermore, a comparison between speleothem δ13C and the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) indicates significant vegetation changes in the last three decades, corresponding with increased atmospheric CO2 levels and expansion of agricultural land due to human activities during the Current Warm Period. Additionally, our study suggests that an abrupt increase in sea surface temperatures may enhance vegetation growth in the Indo-Pacific by influencing atmospheric circulation and increasing precipitation.

The separation of rare earth ions (RE3+) from aqueous solutions poses a significant challenge due to their similar chemical and physical characteristics. This study presents a method for synthesizing hematite nanoparticles (Fe2O3 NPs) through the high-temperature phase transition of natural pyrite for adsorbing RE3+ from mine wastewater. The characteristics of Fe2O3 NPs were studied using XRD, SEM, BET, XPS, FTIR, and Zeta potential. The optimal condition for RE3+ adsorption by Fe2O3 NPs was determined to be at pH 6.0 with an adsorption time of 60 min. The maximum adsorption capacities of Fe2O3 NPs for La3+, Ce3+, Pr3+, Nd3+, Sm3+, Gd3+, Dy3+, and Y3+ were 12.80, 14.02, 14.67, 15.52, 17.66, 19.16, 19.94, and 11.82 mg·g−1, respectively. The experimental data fitted well with the Langmuir isotherm and pseudo-second-order models, suggesting that the adsorption process was dominated by monolayer chemisorption. Thermodynamic analysis revealed the endothermic nature of the adsorption process. At room temperature, the adsorption of RE3+ in most cases (La3+, Ce3+, Pr3+, Nd3+, Sm3+, and Y3+) onto Fe2O3 NPs was non-spontaneous, except for the adsorption of Gd3+ and Dy3+, which was spontaneous. The higher separation selectivity of Fe2O3 NPs for Gd3+ and Dy3+ was confirmed by the separation factor. Moreover, Fe2O3 NPs exhibited excellent stability, with an RE3+ removal efficiency exceeding 94.70% after five adsorption–desorption cycles, demonstrating its potential for the recovery of RE3+ from mine wastewater.

Ferromagnetic debris in lubricating oil, serving as an important communication carrier, can effectively reflect the wear condition of mechanical equipment and predict the remaining useful life. In practice application, the detection signals collected by using inductive sensors contain not only debris signals but also noise terms, and weak debris features are prone to be distorted, which makes it a severe challenge to debris signature identification and quantitative estimation. In this paper, a debris signature extraction method established on segmentation entropy with an adaptive threshold was proposed, based on which five identification indicators were investigated to improve detection accuracy. The results of the simulations and oil experiment show that the proposed algorithm can effectively identify wear particles and preserve debris signatures.

The mechanism of electrochemical interaction between chalcopyrite and hexagonal pyrrhotite was analyzed via electrochemical interaction, copper ion concentration testing, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) characterization. Besides, the effect of electrochemical interaction between the two minerals on the flotation separation was investigated using the mineral flotation tests, adsorption capacity tests, and a microcalorimetric test. Our research results showed that chalcopyrite had higher electrochemical activity than hexagonal pyrrhotite, and when the former acted as an anode during the electrochemical interaction of the two, the corrosion current density was three times higher than that when it acted alone, and the surface oxidation corrosion was intensified. At the same time, the interaction between the two minerals was accompanied by a large number of copper ions dissolved and adsorbed on the surface of the hexagonal pyrrhotite, so that adsorption of butyl xanthate intensified, adsorption increased, and flotation recovery increased by 5%–20%. However, owing to the increase in metal defects and the generation of hydrophilic sulfate, the surface of chalcopyrite hindered the adsorption of butyl xanthate on its surface, and the flotation recovery decreased by nearly 10% compared with that before the occurrence of the electrochemical interaction. This action also significantly weakened the inhibition effect of lime on hexagonal pyrrhotite and increased the difficulty of the flotation separation of the two minerals. The research results of this study provide theoretical guidance for the flotation separation of copper–sulfur ores containing pyrrhotite.

Acetylcholinesterase (AChE) is an essential neurotransmitter hydrolase in nervous systems of animals and its number varies among species. So far, five AChEs have been identified in the natural enemy Pardosa pseudoannulata. Here we found that Ppace1, Ppace2 and Ppace5 were highly expressed in the spider brain, among which the mRNA level of Ppace5, but not Ppace1 and Ppace2, could be up-regulated by organophosphorus insecticides at their sublethal concentrations. In spider brain, the treatment by organophosphorus insecticides at the sublethal concentrations could increase total AChE activity, although high concentrations inhibited the activity. The activity that increased from the sublethal concentration pretreatment could compensate for the activity inhibition due to subsequent application of organophosphorus insecticides at lethal concentrations, and consequently reduce the mortality of spiders. PpAChE1 and PpAChE2 were highly sensitive to organophosphorus insecticides, and their activities would be strongly inhibited by the insecticides. In contrast, PpAChE5 displayed relative insensitivity towards organophosphorus insecticides, but with the highest catalytic efficiency for ACh. That meant the up-regulation of Ppace5 under insecticide exposure was important for maintaining AChE activity in spider brain, when PpAChE1 and PpAChE2 were inhibited by organophosphorus insecticides. The study demonstrated that multiple AChEs in the spider brain worked collaboratively, with part members for maintaining AChE activity and other members responding to organophosphorus inhibition, to provide protection from organophosphorus insecticides. In fields, high concentration insecticides are often applied when ineffective controls of insect pests occur due to relative-low concentration of insecticides in last round application. This application pattern of organophosphorus insecticides provides more chances for P. pseudoannulata to survive and controlling insect pests as a natural enemy.

Accurate and timely surveys of rice diseases and pests are important to control them and prevent the reduction of rice yields. The current manual survey method of rice diseases and pests is time-consuming, laborious, highly subjective and difficult to trace historical data. To address these issues, we developed an intelligent monitoring system for detecting and identifying the disease and pest lesions on the rice canopy. The system mainly includes a network camera, an intelligent detection model of diseases and pests on rice canopy, a web client and a server. Each camera of the system can collect rice images in about 310 m2 of paddy fields. An improved model YOLO-Diseases and Pests Detection (YOLO-DPD) was proposed to detect three lesions of Cnaphalocrocis medinalis, Chilo suppressalis, and Ustilaginoidea virens on rice canopy. The residual feature augmentation method was used to narrow the semantic gap between different scale features of rice disease and pest images. The convolution block attention module was added into the backbone network to enhance the regional disease and pest features for suppressing the background noises. Our experiments demonstrated that the improved model YOLO-DPD could detect three species of disease and pest lesions on rice canopy at different image scales with an average precision of 92.24, 87.35 and 90.74%, respectively, and a mean average precision of 90.11%. Compared to RetinaNet, Faster R-CNN and Yolov4 models, the mean average precision of YOLO-DPD increased by 18.20, 6.98, 6.10%, respectively. The average detection time of each image is 47 ms. Our system has the advantages of unattended operation, high detection precision, objective results, and data traceability.

The brown planthopper (BPH), Nilaparvata lugens (Stål; Hemiptera: Delphacidae) is a piercing-sucking pest that causes serious damage to rice plants by sucking the phloem sap from the plants and transmitting viruses. During courtship, the BPH vibrates its abdomen to produce signals that are transmitted to rice plants through its legs. Male BPHs search, locate, and mate with female BPHs after they exchange courtship signals with each other. Currently, spraying chemical pesticides is still the primary method for controlling BPH populations in paddy fields, although this approach has led to severe environmental pollution. A physical control method based on BPH courtship disruption to reduce the mating rate is a promising strategy for cutting environmental pollution. To acquire effective courtship disruptive signals, we developed a vibration signal recording, monitoring, and playback system for BPHs. Using this system, BPH courtship signals and male competition signals were collected and analyzed to obtain their frequency spectra. Results show that the mean main vibration frequency of female courtship signals is 234 Hz and the mean pulse rate is 23 Hz. The mean main vibration and pulse frequencies of the male courtship signals are 255 Hz and 82 Hz, respectively. Besides, the mean main vibration frequency of the male competition signal is 281 Hz. Seven different forms and frequencies of artificial signals were played back to male BPHs, then the courtship and behavioral responses of male BPHs were analyzed. Results indicate that a pure tone of 225 Hz prevents the males from recognizing female courtship signals. The male reply rate fell from 95.6 to 33.3% and the mean reply delay time increased from 5.3 s to 9.1 s. The reply rates of the other six artificial signals ranged from 42.9 to 83.7%, and the mean reply delays were between 5.0 s and 9.3 s. Therefore, the courtship behavior of BPHs can be disrupted by using specific artificial disruptive signals.

Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) has latently infected over two billion people worldwide (LTBI) and caused ~1.6 million deaths in 2021. Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) co-infection with Mtb will affect the Mtb progression and increase the risk of developing active tuberculosis by 10–20 times compared with HIV- LTBI+ patients. It is crucial to understand how HIV can dysregulate immune responses in LTBI+ individuals. Plasma samples collected from healthy and HIV-infected individuals were investigated using liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (LC-MS), and the metabolic data were analyzed using the online platform Metabo-Analyst. ELISA, surface and intracellular staining, flow cytometry, and quantitative reverse-transcription PCR (qRT-PCR) were performed using standard procedures to determine the surface markers, cytokines, and other signaling molecule expressions. Seahorse extra-cellular flux assays were used to measure mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation and glycolysis. Six metabolites were significantly less abundant, and two were significantly higher in abundance in HIV+ individuals compared with healthy donors. One of the HIV-upregulated metabolites, N-acetyl-L-alanine (ALA), inhibits pro-inflammatory cytokine IFN-γ production by the NK cells of LTBI+ individuals. ALA inhibits the glycolysis of LTBI+ individuals’ NK cells in response to Mtb. Our findings demonstrate that HIV infection enhances plasma ALA levels to inhibit NK-cell-mediated immune responses to Mtb infection, offering a new understanding of the HIV–Mtb interaction and providing insights into the implication of nutrition intervention and therapy for HIV–Mtb co-infected patients.

Three species of rice migratory pests (Cnaphalocrocis medinalis, Sogatella furcifera, and Nilaparvata lugens) cause severe yield and economic losses to rice food every year. It is important that these pests are timely and accurately monitored for controlling them and ensuring food security. Insect radar is effective monitoring equipment for migratory pests flying at high altitude. But insect radar is costly and has not been widely used in fields. Searchlight trap is an economical device, which uses light to trap migratory pests at high altitude. But the trapped pests need to be manually identified and counted from a large number of non-target insects, which is inefficient and labor-intensive. In order to replace manual identification of migratory pests, we develop an intelligent monitoring system of migratory pests based on searchlight trap and machine vision. This system includes a searchlight trap based on machine vision, an automatic identification model of migratory pests, a Web client, and a cloud server. The searchlight trap attracts the high-altitude migratory insects through lights at night and kills them with the infrared heater. All trapped insects are dispersed through a multiple layers of insect conveyor belts and a revolving brush. The machine vision module collects the dispersed insect images and sends them to the cloud server through 4G network. The improved model YOLO-MPNet based on YOLOv4 and SENet channel attention mechanism is proposed to detect three species of migratory pests in the images. The results show that the model effectively improves the detection effect of three migratory pests. The precision is 94.14% for C. medinalis, 85.82% for S. furcifera, and 88.79% for N. lugens. The recall is 91.99% for C. medinalis, 82.47% for S. furcifera, and 85.00% for N. lugens. Compared with some state-of-the-art models (Faster R-CNN, YOLOv3, and YOLOv5), our model shows a low false detection and missing detection rates. The intelligent monitoring system can real-timely and automatically monitor three migratory pests instead of manually pest identification and count, which can reduce the technician workload. The trapped pest images and historical data can be visualized and traced, which provides reliable evidence for forecasting and controlling migratory pests.

Abstract In this article, a powerful method to synthesize uniform CaCO3 rod bundles with a high mass fraction of aragonite from carbide slag in large‐scale production via a two‐step leaching‐precipitation process is reported. The effects of the addition of ethylene glycol and reaction temperature on the structure and morphology of the prepared CaCO3 samples were investigated and then demonstrated by the experimental results. It is beneficial to increase the mass fraction of aragonite in CaCO3 samples and ensure the formation of regular rod bundles in morphology when the addition of ethylene glycol is 30 mL and the reaction temperature is 80 °C. The formation mechanism of the CaCO3 rod bundles was preliminarily discussed according to the Muffins–Sekerka theory.

BackgroundAlthough the predictive value of galectin-3 for heart failure with preserved ejection fraction has been demonstrated, the diagnostic value remains unclear. The present study was performed to address this issue.HypothesisGalectin-3 has diagnostic value for heart failure with preserved ejection fraction.MethodsThis is a diagnostic experiment. We conducted an observational study of 223 patients with combined symptoms of heart failure and diseases that can lead to heart failure with preserved ejection fraction. Patients were grouped into the heart failure group and control group in accordance with the 2016 European Society of Cardiology heart failure guidelines for heart failure with preserved ejection fraction. Baseline information and serum galectin-3 concentration were assessed within 24 h after admission.ResultsSerum galectin-3 concentration was significantly higher in the heart failure group compared with the control group. Binary logistic regression analysis showed that higher galectin-3 concentration was associated with the occurrence of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction. The area under the curve of galectin-3 was 0.763, indicating that galectin-3 has moderate diagnostic value for heart failure with preserved ejection fraction. Galectin-3 >15.974 ng/mL identified heart failure with preserved ejection fraction with 76.0% sensitivity and 71.9% specificity.ConclusionsThere was a correlation between galectin-3 and heart failure with preserved ejection fraction, and galectin-3 was an independent predictor of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction. The diagnostic value of galectin-3 for heart failure with preserved ejection fraction was moderate (AUC: 0.763, 95% CI: 0.696–0.821, P < 0.01, and the sensitivity is 76.0% while the specificity is 71.9% at the threshold 15.974 ng/mL) and was higher than that of interventricular septal thickness or E/A ratio.

Spodoptera frugiperda (fall armyworm, FAW) is a global agriculture pest. Adults have a strong migratory ability and larvae feed on the host stalks, which pose a serious threat for maize and other crops. Identification and counting of different instar larvae in the fields is important for effective pest management and forecasting emergence and migration time of adults. Usually, the technicians identify the larval instars according to the larva morphological features with the naked eye or stereoscope in the lab. The manual identification method is complex, professional and inefficient. In order to intelligently, quickly and accurately identify the larval instar, we design a portable image acquisition device using a mobile phone with a macro lens and collect 1st-6th instar larval images. The YOLOv4 detection method and improved MRES-UNet++ segmentation methods are used to locate the larvae and segment the background. The larval length and head capsule width are automatically measured by some graphics algorithms, and the larval image features are extracted by SIFT descriptors. The random forest model improved by Boruta feature selection and grid search method is used to identify the larval instars of FAWs. The test results show that high-definition images can be easily collected by using the portable device (Shenzhen, China). The MRES-UNet++ segmentation method can accurately segment the larvae from the background. The average measurement error of the head capsule width and body length of moth larvae is less than 5%, and the overall identification accuracy of 1st–6th instar larvae reached 92.22%. Our method provides a convenient, intelligent and accurate tool for technicians to identify the larval instars of FAWs.

The goal of this study is to investigate the regulation effect of relationship quality in the process of the omni-channel (OC) model on service supply chain (SSC) collaboration of agricultural products. Furthermore, it is also to explore the intermediary effect of SSC collaboration in the process of service innovation and OC. A questionnaire was developed, research data were gathered from businesses in the agricultural SSC in western China, and an empirical study was carried out by using the AMOS multivariate statistical analysis approach after a thorough review of the literature in recent years. The study demonstrates that the OC model has a considerable impact on service innovation, SSC collaboration has an intermediary effect, and the quality of supply chain (SC) relationships has a regulation effect in the model. The results inspire academics and industry professionals to focus on SSC collaboration, improve the OC model’s administration, and promote service innovation in agricultural SC. Finally, the paper proposes suggestions to promote agricultural product development in western China in terms of enhancing SSC collaboration, OC model, and service innovation.

It is important to find an effective method for power quality (PQ) disturbance recognition under the challenges of increasing power system pollution. This paper proposes a PQ disturbance signal recognition method based on Multiresolution S transform (MST) and decision tree (DT). For improving recognition accuracy, adjustment factors are introduced to obtain a controllable time-frequency resolution. On this basis, five feature statistics are obtained to quantitatively reflect the characteristics of the analyzed power quality disturbance signals, which is less than the traditional S-transform-based method. As the proposed methodology can effectively identify the PQ disturbances, the efficiency of the DT classifier could be guaranteed. In addition, the noise impacts are also taken into consideration, and 16 types of noisy PQ signals with a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) scoping from 30 to 50 dB are used as the analyzed dataset. Finally, a comparison between the proposed method and other popular recognition algorithms is conducted. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method is effective in terms of detection accuracy, especially for combined PQ disturbances.

Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) has been investigated as a low-cost manufacturing method for fiber-reinforced composites. The traditional and mature technology for manufacturing continuous-carbon-fiber-reinforced plastics is Automated Fiber Placement (AFP), which uses a consolidation roller and an autoclave process to improve the quality of parts. Compared to AFP, FDM is simple in design and operation but lacks the ability to pressurize and heat the model. In this work, a novel method for printing continuous carbon-fiber-reinforced plastics with a pressure roller was investigated. First, the path processing of the pressure roller was researched, which will reduce the number of rotations of the pressure roller and increase the service life of the equipment and the efficiency of printing. Thereafter, three specimens were printed under different pressures and the tensile and bending strength of specimens were tested. The tensile strength and bending strength of specimens were enhanced to 644.8 MPa and 401.24 MPa by increasing the pressure, compared to the tensile strength and bending strength of specimens without pressure of 109.9 MPa and 163.13 MPa. However, excessive pressure will destroy the path of the continuous carbon fiber (CCF) and the surface quality of the model, and may even lead to printing failure.

Poly(lactic acid) has been extensively investigated in the biomedical field because of its good biocompatibility and biodegradability. As an important method of poly(lactic acid) synthesis, metal complex-catalyzed ring-opening polymerization (ROP) of lactide can achieve a controllable lactide polymerization through the selection of appropriate ligands and metals. In this study, a novel metal (LTi-O)2 complex was synthesized and structurally characterized. (LTi-O)2 showed a relatively high catalytic activity and controllability of Poly(D, L-lactide) (PDLLA) molecular weights (polydispersity index of 1.02-1.22) in the ROP of D,L-lactide. The kinetic equation of D,L-LA ROP catalyzed by (LTi-O)2 could be expressed as-d[M]/dt = k[M]2[(LTi-O)2]1, and the reaction activation energy was 95.67 kJ·mol-1. Physical/chemical properties and biocompatibility evaluation results showed that PDLLA obtained through the (LTi-O)2-catalyzed ROP of D,L- lactide exhibited a good degradation performance and excellent biocompatibility.

Effective biosynthesis of magnetite nanoparticles using current technology is challenging. We investigated the synthesis of nanoparticles by Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans grown on ferrous iron, elemental sulphur, and mixtures of both substrates. A comparison of tests with different doping amounts of elemental sulphur in ferrous-containing medium showed that the addition of 0.25 and 0.5 M elemental sulphur to the medium resulted in an increased delay of microbial growth and ferrous iron oxidation. TEM suggested that the ferrous material was an essential energy source for the synthesis of nanoparticles in cells. TEM results indicated that the different ratios of ferrous and sulphur had no significant effect on the morphology of bacteria and the size of nanoparticles. High-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), and X-ray absorption near edge structure (XANES) showed that the nanoparticles were composed of magnetite. For the first time, HRTEM and XANES spectra in-situ characterization was conducted to investigate the nanoparticles that were synthesized by A. ferrooxidans. The findings from this study indicated that the different ratios of ferrous and sulphur had no significant effect on size and shape of nanoparticles synthesized by A. ferrooxidans.

A new polyketide containing the benzoisoquinoline-9-one moiety, peyronetide A (1), and three other new derivatives peyronetides B–D (2–4), as well as one known compound (5) were purified from the cultured broth of the endophytic fungus Peyronellaea sp. FT431, which was isolated from the Hawaiian indigenous plant, Verbena sp. The structures of the new compounds were determined through the analysis of HRMS and NMR spectroscopic data. Compounds 1, 2, and 5 showed cytotoxic activities against TK-10 (human kidney adenocarcinoma cells), cisplatin sensitive A2780S (human ovarian carcinoma cells), and cisplatin resistant A2780CisR cell lines, with IC50 values between 6.7 to 29.2 μM.

Adhesion plays an important role in bacterial dissolution of metal sulfides, since the attached cells initiate the dissolution. In addition, biofilms, forming after bacterial attachment, enhance the dissolution. In this study, interactions between initial adhesion force, attachment behavior and copper recovery were comparatively analyzed for Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans, Acidithiobacillus thiooxidans, and Leptospirillum ferrooxidans during bioleaching of chalcopyrite. The adhesion forces between bacteria and minerals were measured by atomic force microscopy (AFM). L. ferrooxidans had the largest adhesion force and attached best to chalcopyrite, while A. ferrooxidans exhibited the highest bioleaching of chalcopyrite. The results suggest that the biofilm formation, rather than the initial adhesion, is positively correlated with bioleaching efficiency.

A new N-methoxypyridone analog (1), together with four known compounds, was isolated from the co-culture of Hawaiian endophytic fungi Camporesia sambuci FT1061 and Epicoccum sorghinum FT1062. The structure of the new compound was elucidated as 11S-hydroxy-1-methoxyfusaricide (1) by extensive spectroscopic analysis and comparison with the literature. The absolute configuration of 1 was determined by comparison with the experimental and calculated ECD spectra. The absolute configuration of compound 3 was investigated and renamed as (+)-epipyridone by comparison of the optical rotation and CD spectrum with those of 1. The other known compounds were identified as epicoccarine B (2), D8646-2-6 (4), and iso-D8646-2-6 (5). Compounds 4 and 5 showed modest inhibitory activity towards pathogenic fungi. Epicoccarine B (2) inhibited A2780 and TK-10 with an IC50 value of 22 μM.

Diseases caused by dengue virus (DV) infection vary in severity, with symptoms ranging from mild fever to life threatening dengue hemorrhage fever (DHF) and dengue shock syndrome (DSS). Clinical studies have shown that significant decrease in the level of lipoproteins is correlated with severe illness in DHF/DSS patients. Available evidence also indicates that lipoproteins including high-density lipoprotein (HDL) and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) are able to facilitate cell entry of HCV or other flaviviruses via corresponding lipoprotein receptors. In this study, we found that pre-incubation of DV with human serum leads to an enhanced DV infectivity in various types of cells. Such enhancement could be due to interactions between serum components and DV particles. Through co-immunoprecipitation we revealed that apolipoprotein A-I (ApoA-I), the major protein component in HDL, is associated with DV particles and is able to promote DV infection. Based on that observation, we further found that siRNA knockdown of the scavenger receptor class B type I (SR-BI), the cell receptor of ApoA-I, abolished the activity of ApoA-I in enhancement of DV infection. This suggests that ApoA-I bridges DV particles and cell receptor SR-BI and facilitates entry of DV into cells. FACS analysis of cell surface dengue antigen after virus absorption further confirmed that ApoA-I enhances DV infection via promoting initial attachment of the virus to cells. These findings illustrate a novel entry route of DV into cells, which may provide insights into the functional importance of lipoproteins in dengue pathogenesis.
