1. From Waste to Consumption: Tomato Peel Flour in Hamburger Patty Production

Abstract

Tomato is a widely cultivated crop and its processing produces large quantities of wastes, such as pulp, seed, and peel. In recent years, the valorization of these wastes in the production of high-value-added food products has gained popularity in achieving environmental sustainability and zero waste. From this viewpoint, dried tomato peel (DTP-1%, 2%, 3%, 4%) flour was included in hamburger formulations. In patty samples, ash, carbohydrate, and dietary fiber amounts were increased due to the high fiber content of DTP flour, while moisture and fat percentages decreased with increasing amounts of DTP flour (p < 0.05). The inclusion of DTP flour retarded lipid oxidation during cooking (p < 0.05). The significantly highest cooking yield was calculated in samples including 4% DTP flour. In parallel, water-holding capacity, moisture, and fat retention values increased with increasing levels of DTP flour (p < 0.05). The enrichment of patties with DTP flour resulted in hard texture, less gumminess, and a darker, more reddish and yellowish color (p < 0.05). Hamburger samples containing 1% or 2% DTP flour were graded with closer scores in the sensory panel as compared to the control (0% DTP). Overall, our findings demonstrated that DTP flour up to 2% could be used to improve the nutritional and technological properties of patty samples.

Abstract

The updated Turkish seismic code “Building Earthquake Regulations-2018 (TBDY-2018)” includes radical changes in many aspects such as peer review and the earthquake hazard map hence, it brings new conditions into practical engineering. One of the most important conditions is the concept of "Site Response Analysis" for the soil type “ZF”. This study investigates the item 16.5.2.3 (a) which states that “the depth of the engineering bedrock from the building foundation must not be less than three times of the largest building width. However, the application of this provision is almost difficult especially for the large span structures, and it requires additional cost. In this context, the soil profile evaluation has been made within the borders of Konak district of İzmir province for soil class "ZF" considering four different depths. Non-linear bidirectional time history analyses are performed using 11 pairs of earthquake records which are scaled to match various earthquake levels. The study also evaluates the effect of various depths on the behavior of the soil profile in question. The paper concludes that, for the soil profile addressed in this study, the derived design spectrum related to soil type ZE- regardless of the depth change - is conservative for all periods except the high rise buildings as well as the buildings that do not require advanced performance evaluations such as new designed reinforced concrete buildings, precast concrete buildings and steel buildings.

Parabolik Denklemler için Neumann ve Dirichlet Türü Ek Koşullu Ters Kaynak Problemlerinin Çözüm Yöntemlerinin Analizi isimli bu çalışma beş bölümden oluşmaktadır. Birinci bölüm tez çalışmasının konusu ve tarihsel gelişimi ile ilgili bilgiler içermektedir. İkinci bölümde, ek Neumann ve Dirichlet koşullarından Parabolik denkleminin G(t) kaynak fonksiyonunun belirlenmesi ters problemleri için,Tikhonov fonksiyonellerinin Frechet gradyanlarını elde etmek amaçlanmıştır. Bu nedenle ilgili düz problemlerin ve eşlenik problemlerin zayıf çözümleri için önsel değerlendirmeler kullanılmış ve bu fonksiyonellerin Frechet gradyanlarının Lipschitz sürekliliği kanıtlanmıştır. Üçüncü bölümde, ek Dirichlet koşulundan parabolik denkleminin p(x) katsayısının belirlenmesi ile ilgili ters problem ele alınmış, operatör denklem ve Tikhonov fonksiyonelinin Frechet gradyanı elde edilmiş, girdi çıktı operatörünün kompaktlığı, Lipschitz sürekliliği ve ters problemin çözümünün varlığı kanıtlanmıştır. Altıncı bölümde konuya ilişkin temel kavramlar üzerinde durulmuş, temel tanım ve teoremler ele alınmıştır., This thesis entitled by An Analysis of Solution Methods for Parabolic Inverse Source Problems with Neumann and Dirichlet Type Measured Output Data consists of six chapters. The first chapter contains the information about subject of the study and the historical developments in the area. In the second chapter Frechet gradient formula for Tikhonov functionals of the parabolic equation is derived and some priori estimates are used to find the source function G(t). And then Lipschitz contiunity of these cost functionals is proved. In the third chapter, the inverse problem related to the determination of the coefficient p(x) of the equation from the additional Dirichlet condition is discussed, the operator equation and the Frechet gradient of the Tikhonov functional are obtained. Then the compactness of the input-output operator, the Lipschitz continuity and the solution of the inverse problem has been proved. All results given in this section are unique. The fourth chapter is the conclusion chapter and the fifth chapter is the proposal chapter. In the sixth chapter, basic concepts related to the subject are emphasized, basic definitions and theorems are discussed.

EgeUn###, This paper is devoted to the inverse problem of identifying an unknown spacewise-dependent zeroth-order coefficient p(x) in the 1D diffusion equation u(t) = (k(x)u(x))(x) - p(x)u from boundary Dirichlet measured output f(t) := u(0, t), t is an element of [0, T]. Compactness and Lipschitz continuity of the input-output operator Phi[p] := u(x, t; p)vertical bar x=0(+), Phi[ . ] : p subset of H-1(0, l) bar right arrow L-2(0, T) are proved. Then an existence of a quasi-solution of the inverse problem is obtained. We prove Frechet differentiability of the Tikhonov functional and derive an explicit gradient formula for the Frechet gradient through the solutions of the direct and corresponding adjoint problems solutions. This allows to use gradient-type algorithms for the numerical solution of the considered inverse problem.

Abstract

In recentyears, in order to determine the structural performance of existing buildingsunder earthquake effect, instead of force-based methods, non-linear methodsbased on the change of deformation and displacement have been started. TurkishBuilding Earthquake Code (TBDY-2018) and Specification for Buildings to beBuilt in Seismic Zones (DBYBHY-2007), both proposes linear and non-linearcalculation methods in order to determine performances of existing buildings.Non-linear analysis methods proposed by TBDY-2018 are; Single Mode Pushover,Multi-mode Pushover and Time History analysis. Non-linear analysis methodsproposed by DBYBHY-2007 are; Incremental Equivalent Earthquake Load Method,Incremental Modal Superposition Method and Non-linear Time History analysis. Themajor difference between TBDY-2018 and DBYBHY-2007 is the description of theeffective cross section stiffness and damage limits of reinforced concretesections. Abstract

Doğal dişlerde mobilite ve implantlarda primer stabilite, birbirine benzer yöntemler ile değerlendirilen parametrelerdir. Doğal dişlerin mobilitesi günümüze kadar birçok araştırmacı tarafından farklı şekillerde sınıflandırılmıştır. Teknolojinin gelişmesi ile bu skalalar güvenilirliklerini korumakla beraber Periotest gibi dijital ölçüm cihazları da alanda kendilerine yer edinmişlerdir. İmplant stablitesi değerlendirilmesinede, doğal dişlere benzer olarak, geleneksel skalalarkla beraber periotest veya radyofrekans analizi gibi birçok teknolojik yöntemle implant stabilitesi objektif olarak değerlendirilebilmektedir. Bu literatür derlemesinde implantların ve dişlerin stabilite ve mobilite değerlerini ölçen teknikleri incelemek ve güvenilirliklerini karşılaştırmak amaçlanmıştır., Mobility in natural teeth and primer stability in implants are parameters evaluated by similar methods. 9. Underwater acoustic performance of SiC foam ceramic materials

Abstract

Abstract One of the major tasks of the underwater warfare is to detect underwater objects such as vehicles, vessels, weapons and equipment. The conduct of underwater warfare mostly depends upon the advancement of detection and identification sensors and materials. The wide variation in types and characteristics of materials may affect the underwater detection capabilities despite recently developed sonar systems. The materials with high porosity are known to provide lower acoustical signature than conventional metallic plates in common. The aim of this study is to examine the acoustical signature and the efficiency of open celled SiC foam ceramics as covering and/or casing material for naval mines. Sonar frequencies widely used in mine countermeasure operations for detection purposes, 80 kHz, 85 kHz, 90khZ, 95 kHz and 100 kHz were applied to the acoustic tests. The experimental results obtained from the study shows that the SiC foam ceramic plate leads a 19,2% reduction in reflection, 90,5% and 96% lower values are obtained in transmission and 78,4% and 68,6% lower values are obtained at 60° and 30° in scattering compared to the reference steel plate. Article Highlights This study investigates underwater acoustic performance of open celled SiC foam ceramics the range of 80–100 kHz in the acoustic test pool environment for the very first time. Highly tortuose and porous structure of open celled SiC foam ceramic leads a considerable decrease in scattering, reflection and transmission properties. The study reveals that SiC foams ceramics are potential candidates in reducing acoustical signature as covering and/or casing material for future naval mine applications.

Abstract

In this paper, the probability of error (Pe) expression of asynchronous direct sequence-code division multiple access (DS-CDMA) signals using band-limited chip waveforms is derived over multi-path Rayleigh fading channels. In receiver, a matched filter-based rake receiver in conjunction with maximum ratio combiner (MRC) is considered. Numerical values for the P e are calculated for various chip waveforms including an optimum wavelet waveform. Analytical results are verified by conducting simulations. Results show that the optimum wavelet-based scheme outperforms time-limited raised cosine, half sine, rectangular and band-limited square-root raised cosine chip waveform-based schemes in terms of the Pe and the capacity defined as the number of users per Hertz for a same Pe level. Mobility in natural teeth and primer stability in implants are parameters evaluated by similar methods. Until today, mobility of natural teeth has been classified in different ways by many researchers. With the development of technology, these scales maintain their reliability but digital measurement devices such as Periotest have taken their place in the field. Similar to natural teeth, implant stability can be assessed objectively using a number of technological methods, such as periotest or radiofrequency analysis (RFA) along with conventional scales, in assessing implant stability. Abstract

The occurence of respiratory failure in progressive neuromuscular disorders is well recognized, This failure is observed most commonly in Duchenne dystrophy but sometimes occurs in Becker's, limb-girdle, and facioscapulohumeral dystrophies. Patients usually present acutely or subacutely with cyanosis and cor pulmonale, with severe decompensation often being precipitated by an acute intercurrent infection, However, cardiopulmonary arrest is an uncommon presentation. A male diagnosed with limb-girdle muscular dystrophy type 2A who presented with cardiopulmonary arrest that was precipitated by an upper respiratory tract infection is presented. The nocturnal application of noninvasive intermittent positive pressure ventilation with a bilevel positive airway pressure (Bi-PAP) device improved his symptoms and quality of life without resorting to more-invasive and more-restrictive forms of support. This report demonstrates an unusual presentation of limb-girdle muscular dystrophy and documents that nocturnal nasal administration of continuous airway pressure using the Bi-PAP device may be sufficient to maintain adequate ventilation in such patients.
