- Abstract
Social role theory posits that binary gender gaps in agency and communion should be larger in less egalitarian countries, reflecting these countries’ more pronounced sex-based power divisions. Conversely, evolutionary and self-construal theorists suggest that gender gaps in agency and communion should be larger in more egalitarian countries, reflecting the greater autonomy support and flexible self-construction processes present in these countries. Using data from 62 countries (N = 28,640), we examine binary gender gaps in agentic and communal self-views as a function of country-level objective gender equality (the Global Gender Gap Index) and subjective distributions of social power (the Power Distance Index). Findings show that in more egalitarian countries, gender gaps in agency are smaller and gender gaps in communality are larger. These patterns are driven primarily by cross-country differences in men’s self-views and by the Power Distance Index (PDI) more robustly than the Global Gender Gap Index (GGGI). We consider possible causes and implications of these findings.

- Abstract
Precarious manhood beliefs portray manhood, relative to womanhood, as a social status that is hard to earn, easy to lose, and proven via public action. Here, we present cross-cultural data on a brief measure of precarious manhood beliefs (the Precarious Manhood Beliefs scale [PMB]) that covaries meaningfully with other cross-culturally validated gender ideologies and with country-level indices of gender equality and human development. Using data from university samples in 62 countries across 13 world regions (N = 33,417), we demonstrate: (1) the psychometric isomorphism of the PMB (i.e., its comparability in meaning and statistical properties across the individual and country levels); (2) the PMB's distinctness from, and associations with, ambivalent sexism and ambivalence toward men; and (3) associations of the PMB with nation-level gender equality and human development. Findings are discussed in terms of their statistical and theoretical implications for understanding widely-held beliefs about the precariousness of the male gender role.

The relevance of organizational justice for the improvement of the relationship between workers and organizations has given the theme a prominent role on the international stage in recent decades. In Brazil, discrepancies between national and foreign contributions were pointed out by the last review on the subject, in 2005. Thus, this study analyzed the Brazilian scientific production on organizational justice, focusing on the dimensions of the organizational justice, the theoretical background, and the relationships investigated. A semi-systematic literature review was carried out in 19 journals (1996-2018). The results showed significant differences between national and international production. A national research agenda is presented, highlighting the need for studies exploring the antecedents and the effects of the process of mediation and interaction of justice and a better theoretical foundation. The objective of this study was to adapt and investigate validity evidence for the Team Psychological Safety Survey for Brazil and to test its feasibility to emerge at the team level. A sample of 8,310 female workers answered the scale. Initial analyses indicated the single-factor solution fitness, with Cronbach's alpha = 0.84. Confirmatory factor analysis model obtained good fitness coefficients, CFI = 0.995, RMSEA = 0.07. Emersion was viable due to group variance identified by and ICC calculations. The hypothesis stated that psychological safety correlates with perceived organizational practices and that differences exist between men and women's practices. Findings support that the good practices positively related to psychological safety, with differences between gender, while a negative relationship with bad practices was partially confirmed. A quadratic trend was identified between organizational status and psychological safety. Results provide validity evidence for the survey for samples of Brazilian women. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Moral Identity (MI) can be defined as the degree to which the morality is important as a part of a person's identity. This construct has shown strong relationships with intentions and moral behavior, but has not yet been adapted to Brazil. Thus, the study intended to find evidences of validity of the MI scale to the Brazilian context. Therefore, the MI scale was translated and applied online along with related constructs scales in a sample of 218 people. The results of the factor analysis and reliability showed a two-factor structure (internalization and symbolization) with satisfactory rates for the MI scale. Significant correlations were found with sympathy, moral disengagement and brazilian jeitinho. Therefore, the instrument is constituted as a relevant measure for identifying characteristics related to morality and ethics. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

WORK values , *EMPLOYEE psychology , *ORGANIZATIONAL ideology - Abstract
The purpose of this research is to identify evidence that work values can predict organizational values preference, based on conceptual similarity proposed by the Theory of Values. A total of 254 Brazilian undergraduate students responded to the Organizational Values Scale and the revised Work Values Scale. Hierarchical regressions were run controlling for demographics. The results indicated significant explanation of variance for all organizational values. The most significant predictors were compatible with the hypotheses based on Schwartz's Theory of Values, revealing that work and organizational values are logically connected through an axiological structure. In conclusion, work values and preferred organizational values have adequate nominal commensurability for conducting Individual-Organization fit studies and implications for organizational socialization and vocational and career counseling. - Abstract
Internationally, transformational and transactional are among the leadership styles most frequently studied in the last 20 years. It is likely that the adoption of one style or the other could be predicted by leader's attitudes toward each style. The aim of this study is to present validity evidences of a scale to measure attitudes toward transformational and transactional leadership styles. Items have been taken from internationally validated scales and translated to Portuguese through back-translation process. A sample of 324 professionals of public and private organizations of Brasilia has answered the questionnaire. Factorial analysis (PAF with Promax Rotation) indicted a two-factor structure, consistent with previous theory: Factor 1: Transformational Leadership (24 items); Factor 2: Transactional Leadership (8 items). The evidences point to the validity of the scale to measure attitudes toward both leadership styles. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

DIFFERENTIAL values inventory , *LEADERSHIP , *AUTONOMY (Psychology) , *TRANSACTIONAL leadership , *TRANSFORMATIONAL leadership , *REGRESSION analysis , *SOCIAL desirability - Abstract
According to Human Values Theory, values are transituational goals that guide our lives. They can be organized in 10 motivational types: achievement, power, security, conformity, tradition, benevolence, universalism, self-direction, stimulation and hedonism. As abstract constructs, they can influence other more specific constructs, such as attitudes, which are psychological tendencies to evaluate a particular entity with some degree of favorability. This study aimed to measure the effect of values on attitudes toward transformational and transactional leadership styles. The primer consists in inspiring subordinates and stimulating them to go beyond self-interest in favor of organizational well-being. The latter focuses on negotiating exchanges and punishing performances above expectations. A sample of 324 professionals from the city of Brasilia has answered the questionnaire, 88.5% from public organizations, 76% male, with average age of 33.36 years (SD = 8.67). Personal values were measured with the reduced version of the Portraits Questionnaire (PQ21), social desirability with Marlowe-Crowne scale and attitudes with the scale of attitudes toward leadership styles. Results indicate that the two types of attitude were positively related, although the one toward transformational style had more favorable responses. Attitude towards transformational style had a positive relationship with universalism, benevolence and self-direction and negative relationship with power, achievement and tradition. On the other hand, attitude toward transactional style related positively with self-direction and negatively with power, achievement and tradition. Hierarchical regression for transformational leadership showed that, after controlling for socio-demographic variables and social desirability, the inclusion of values caused an increase of 0.17 in the R² . Universalism, power, tradition and hedonism were significant predictors of this attitude. In contrast, for transactional leadership, R² change was of 0.06. There was no significant contribution of any specific value. in general, results indicate that the attitude toward transformational leadership style is more influenced by values, pointing directions to managers interested in promoting this kind of leadership. We would recommend replicating this research in other contexts and including actual management behavior as a variable. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
