The existence of Quantum Many-Body Scars has been established across different quantum many-body systems, including spin-1/2 Quantum Link Models. We systematically identify scars for pure gauge theories with arbitrarily large integer spin $S$ in $2+1$D, concretely for Truncated Link Models, where the electric field is truncated rather than replaced by spins. Through an explicit analytic construction, we show that the presence of scars is widespread. We confirm these findings numerically for small truncated spin and $S=1$ Quantum Link Models. State-of-the-art algorithms in lattice gauge theory typically rely heavily on detailed balance, which is an instrumental tool to prove the correct convergence of the Markov Chain Monte Carlo Algorithm. State-of-the-art algorithms for simulating fermions coupled to gauge fields often rely on integrating fermion degrees of freedom. While successful in simulating QCD at zero chemical potential, at finite density these approaches are hindered by the sign problem. We discuss the simulation of lattice gauge theories in the Hamiltonian formalism and present a generalized meron-cluster algorithm for the simulation of the $U\left(1\right)$ Quantum Link Model for spin $1/2$. This enables the study of models directly relevant to current quantum simulators and is a promising first step toward constructing new efficient algorithms for more complicated gauge theories., Comment: PoS Lattice 2023

We propose a scheme for the quantum simulation of quantum link models in two-dimensional lattices. Our approach considers spinor dipolar gases on a suitably shaped lattice, where the dynamics of particles in the different hyperfine levels of the gas takes place in one-dimensional chains coupled by the dipolar interactions. We show that at least four levels are needed. The present scheme does not require any particular fine-tuning of the parameters. We perform the derivation of the parameters of the quantum link models by means of two different approaches, a non-perturbative one tied to angular momentum conservation, and a perturbative one. A comparison with other schemes for $(2+1)$-dimensional quantum link models present in literature is discussed. Using numerical simulations, a vortex is studied in the broken phase of the $(2+1)$-d $O(2)$-symmetric scalar field theory in the vicinity of the Wilson-Fisher fixed point. The vortex is an infraparticle that is surrounded by a cloud of Goldstone bosons. The $L$-dependence of the vortex mass in a finite $C$-periodic volume $L^2$ leads to the determination of the renormalized vortex charge., Comment: 5 pages + Supplementary Information (2 pages)

We present a reformulation of gauge theories in terms of gauge invariant fields. Focusing on Abelian theories, we show that the gauge and matter covariant fields can be recombined to introduce new gauge invariant degrees of freedom. Starting from the $(1+1)$ dimensional case on the lattice, with both periodic and open boundary conditions, we then generalize to higher dimensions and to the continuum limit. To show explicit and physically relevant examples of the reformulation, we apply it to the Hamiltonian of a single particle in a (static) magnetic field, to pure abelian lattice gauge theories, to the Lagrangian of quantum electrodynamics in $(3+1)$ dimensions and to the Hamiltonian of the $2d$ and $3d$ Hofstadter model. In the latter, we show that the particular construction used to eliminate the the gauge covariant fields enters the definition of the magnetic Brillouin zone. In O($N$) non-linear $\sigma$-models on the lattice, the Wolff cluster algorithm is based on rewriting the functional integral in terms of mutually independent clusters. Through improved estimators, the clusters are directly related to physical observables. In the $(N-1)$-d O($N$) model (with an appropriately constrained action) the clusters carry an integer or half-integer topological charge. Clusters with topological charge $\pm 1/2$ are denoted as merons. Similarly, in the 2-d O(2) model the clusters carry pairs of semi-vortices and semi-anti-vortices (with vorticity $\pm 1/2$) at their boundary. Using improved estimators, meron- and semi-vortex-clusters provide analytic insight into the topological features of the dynamics. We show that the histograms of the cluster-size distributions scale in the continuum limit, with a fractal dimension $D$, which suggests that the clusters are physical objects. We demonstrate this property analytically for merons and non-merons in the 1-d O(2) model (where $D=1$), and numerically for the 2-d O(2), 2-d O(3), and 3-d O(4) model, for which we observe fractal dimensions $D < d$. In the vicinity of a critical point, a scaling law relates $D$ to a combination of critical exponents.
