Abstract

The quantum error correction theory is as a rule formulated in a rather convoluted way, in comparison to classical algebraic theory. This work revisits the error correction in a noisy quantum channel so as to make it intelligible to engineers. An illustrative example is presented of a naive perfect quantum code (Hamming-like code) with five-qubits for transmitting a single qubit of information. Abstract

Real-valued block codes are introduced, which are derived from Discrete Fourier Transforms (DFT) and Discrete Hartley Transforms (DHT). These algebraic structures are built from the eigensequences of the transforms. Generator and parity check matrices were computed for codes up to block length N=24. They can be viewed as lattices codes so the main parameters (dimension, minimal norm, area of the Voronoi region, density, and centre density) are computed. Particularly, Hamming-Hartley and Golay-Hartley block codes are presented. Abstract

De novo mutations arising in the germline add to genetic variation. The number of de novo mutations occurring every generation, especially structural variants, has not been well studied in most species, including livestock. We used whole-genome sequencing from 46 pig trios from two commercial lines to identify de novo structural variants (dnSVs) present in the offspring. We characterised these dnSV by identifying their parent-of-origin, predicting their causal mechanisms, and identifying their functional annotations. We identified four dnSVs, including two clusters of mutations. One of these clusters contained a deletion, and three duplications, one of which was inverted. This cluster was the only dnSV that could be phased and was located in the paternal haplotype of the proband. All four identified dnSVs were located within the introns of genes. Our study is the first of its kind to identify and characterise dnSVs using whole genome shotgun sequence data in pigs.

Abstract

Livestock populations can have different genetic backgrounds and may vary in their capacity to respond to environmental changes. Our findings suggest that improved chicken breeds differ in growth performance and phenotypic plasticity (yield stability) when they are introduced into new tropical environments. Dual consideration of productivity and phenotypic plasticity gives opportunities to select or recommend genotypes with optimal performance and wider adaptability for smallholder farmers raising livestock in different agroecologies.

Abstract

Diante do cenário pandêmico do Brasil 2020-2021, a prática Docente passou por algumas adaptações e se fez necessário considerar metodologias de ensino e de avaliação alternativas. Nesse sentido, a partir de uma pesquisa bibliográfica de cunho qualitativo acerca das concepções pedagógicas e discursos sobre avaliação, desenvolvemos uma proposta de metodologia avaliativa que considera a participação do indivíduo e sua inserção no coletivo, quanto ambiente escolar, objetivando-se reduzir as degenerescências associadas às questões sociais, econômicas, culturais e a não homogeneidade da relação Docente-Discente. O método condiciona a prática docente, o processo de avaliação e as dimensões sociais ao Discente. Aplicamos o método a um quantitativo fictício de Discentes analisando diferentes contextos participativos e avaliações e comparamos os resultados obtidos com aqueles oriundos das avaliações tradicionais. Fazemos uma breve análise enaltecendo a importância de se considerar utilizar a metodologia indivíduo-coletivo e finalizamos com às perspectivas propostas para a utilização do método nas diferentes componentes curriculares.
