Background: En masse retraction of the anterior teeth may create anchorage problems. The effective means of obtaining anchorage in en masse retraction is by the usage of temporary anchorage devices. Aims and Objectives: The purpose of this study is focused on stress and strain created around miniscrew during en masse retraction using the cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) data obtained at two intervals and by the finite element analysis done using the CBCT data obtained. This will show us the stress and strain created around miniscrews and the withstanding capacity of miniscrews. Objectives: Use of panoramic radiograph and its comparison with computed tomograph (CT) in assessing the dimensions of radio!uccntmandibularjaw lesions. Methods: 19 paticntscxhibitingradioluccntlcsions in the mandibular posterior region were selected. Based on the radiographic diagnosis they were divided into 3 types: cyst with well defined borders (type 1), cyst with ill defined borders (type 11) and ameloblastoma (type 111). Maximum mcsiodistal length and supcroinlcrior heights were measured on panoramic radiograph (Lp max and Hp max) and on CT(Lc max and He max) and rcsultswcrc compared after statistical analysis. Results: The mcansand standard deviations along with the correlation coefficient of Lcmax with Lp max and He max with Hp max for type 1 and type 11 lesions were similar and comparable and also correlation coefficient of He max with Hp max for type 111 lesions. But, correlation coefficient of Lc max with Lpmax for type 111 lesions was low and statistically significant. Interpretation and conclusion: Panoramic radiograph is as accurate as CT in measurements of mcsiodistal length and supcroinlcrior height in the posterior mandible for type 1 and type 11 lesions and supcroinlcrior height measurements for type 111 lesions.
