This text provides a summary of the life and work of Klaus Lüning, a prominent researcher in the field of seaweed biology. Lüning's career spanned several decades, during which he made significant contributions to the study of seaweed communities and their environmental requirements. He conducted research on the thermal requirements of seaweeds and investigated the circadian rhythms of growth in kelp species. Lüning also explored the presence of the hormone melatonin in seaweeds. Throughout his career, he supervised numerous students and collaborated with researchers from around the world. After retiring, Lüning established an algal farm and continued his research on Ulva. Unfortunately, he passed away in 2023 after battling cancer. Lüning's pioneering work and dedication to science left a lasting impact on the field of macroalgal research. [Extracted from the article]
