Abstract

Closely related to the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana, the genus Boechera is known to contain both sexual and apomictic species or accessions. Boechera retrofracta is a diploid sexually reproducing species and is thought to be an ancestral parent species of apomictic species. Here we report the de novo assembly of the B. retrofracta genome using short Illumina and Roche reads from 1 paired-end and 3 mate pair libraries. The distribution of 23-mers from the paired end library has indicated a low level of heterozygosity and the presence of detectable duplications and triplications. The genome size was estimated to be equal 227 Mb. N50 of the assembled scaffolds was 2.3 Mb. Using a hybrid approach that combines homology-based and de novo methods 27,048 protein-coding genes were predicted. Also repeats, transfer RNA (tRNA) and ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes were annotated. Finally, genes of B. retrofracta and 6 other Brassicaceae species were used for phylogenetic tree reconstruction. In addition, we explored the histidine exonuclease APOLLO locus, related to apomixis in Boechera, and proposed model of its evolution through the series of duplications. An assembled genome of B. retrofracta will help in the challenging assembly of the highly heterozygous genomes of hybrid apomictic species.

Abstract

The strategy of converting waste materials into new functional materials is a promising approach for energy-storage applications, particularly in the case of silver-impregnated activated carbon (SAC). SAC, which is typically derived from coconut shells, is primarily used for water purification in home-based filters due to its excellent antibacterial properties. However, the silver concentration is low, and it tends to leach out after a certain period, resulting in waste. To address this issue, SAC was used as a precursor for electrodes in supercapacitor applications. Additional surface treatments, such as heteroatom doping, are also being employed to improve the electrical conductivity and wettability of SAC. Nitrogen was introduced using urea as a precursor to enhance the properties of SAC. XRD analysis confirmed the structural analysis of activated carbon and nitrogen-activated carbon. Morphological analysis revealed the formation of micropores on the surface of the samples. FTIR analysis confirmed the presence of functional groups in the samples. Raman spectra showed the presence of defects after the introduction of nitrogen atoms into the carbon lattice, with higher relative Id/Ig compared to AC. Multipoint bet analysis was conducted, and the surface area of the sample was found to be approximately 815m2g−1, with pore sizes of 810m2g−1. Electrochemical analysis was carried out in both three- and two-electrode configurations. The specific capacitance of NAC in cyclic voltammetry and galvanostatic charge–discharge analysis was found to be higher than that of AC because the nitrogen atoms reduced the ionic charge transfer resistance between the electrode and electrolyte surface. Abstract

The purpose of the present study is to investigate the buyer behaviour towards the evaluation of personal care and apparel care products, before and after purchase. Consumer behaviour related to searching for information about the product before the purchase is addressed first. Then the study addresses how the outcome of evaluation of products after the purchase, affects the consumers' brand switching behaviour and consumer complaining behaviour (CCB). The study also explores the impact of gender on search behaviour and consumer complaining behaviour. The paper concludes with discussion on managerial implication and scope for further research.
