Today, while transportation is constantly moving forward, costs are increasing. The aim is to obtain light structures that are suitable in terms of weight, sufficient in strength, and to save materials and energy. Axles are not only used in transport vehicles, but also in buses, automobiles and forklifts. Axles must be of a reliable structure due to their place of use. The external effects that the axles are generally exposed to are the applied loads. In this study, the mechanical damage analysis of the axle shaft and the characteristic changes in steel materials as a result of static loading were investigated numerically. In order to observe the mechanical behavior of the axle shaft under various loading conditions, mechanical tests should be supported by numerical analysis. Because the physical causes of damage development can be understood through numerical analysis. The aim of our study is to reach the most suitable values in the design of the variables with the optimization technique of the axle shaft made of AISI 1035 steel. Optimum values were obtained by performing numerical analyzes of the axle shaft designed with Solidworks program. As a result of the analysis, it was observed that deformation occurred at the ends of the axle.

In this study, the fatigue behavior of composite patched and non-patched Al 5083 aluminum plates was numerically investigated. Al 5083 Aluminum plates with semi-circular notched (2, 3 and 4 mm long cracked) and "V" notched (30°, 45° and 60° angled) were used in the analyzes. Mechanical properties of Al 5083 Aluminum plate, DP460 type adhesive of produced by 3M and [0°]8 glass fiber reinforced composite patch material was used for the study. The Finite Element Method was applied for numerical study. Numerical analyzes were performed with the Ansys version 15.0 Workbench Package program. As a result of the numerical study, the highest fatigue life (1593.2 N) is seen on the 30° angled "V" notched and patched specimen. However, the fatigue life in non-patched specimen (30° angled "V" notched) was found to be 277.69 N. Thus, the study revealed that the composite patch's contribution is very important.

Bu çalışmada, AISI 4140 çeliğinin tornalanması işleminde kesme hızı, ilerleme oranı ve MQL debisinin esas kesme kuvvetleri (Fc) ve ortalama yüzey pürüzlülüğüne (Ra) etkisi hem deneysel hem de istatiksel olarak incelenmiştir. Bu doğrultuda deney sonuçlarının değerlendirilmesinde sinyal/gürültü (S/N) oranları ve yapay sinir ağları (YSA) kullanılmıştır. İşleme deneylerinde, kesme parametreleri olarak üç farklı kesme hızı (75, 100, 125 m/dk), üç farklı ilerleme oranı (0,16 - 0,25 – 0,5 mm/dev), üç farklı MQL debisi (0,35 - 0,8 - 1,7 ml/dk) ve sabit kesme derinliği (2,5 mm) seçilmiştir. İşleme deneylerinde MQL debi artışının Fc üzerinde Ra’ya göre daha etkili olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Ayrıca tüm MQL debi uygulamalarında hem Fc hem de Ra’nın ilerleme oranı ile arttığı ve kesme hızı ile genel olarak azaldığı görülmüştür. Fc ve Ra için S/N oranları ve YSA ile elde edilen R2 değerleri R2 S/N(Fc)= 0,9996, R2 S/N(Ra)= 0,9984, R2 YSA(Fc)=0,9990 ve R2 YSA(Ra)=0,9884 bulunmuştur. S/N oranlarına göre Fc ve Ra üzerindeki en etkili kontrol faktörlerinin sırasıyla; ilerleme oranı, kesme hızı ve MQL debi olduğu belirlenmiştir. Elde edilen regresyon değerlerine bağlı olarak S/N oranlarının ve YSA’nın deneysel verileri yüksek güven aralığında tahmin etmede geçerli olduğu tespit edilmiştir, In this study, the effect of cutting speed, feed rate and MQL flow rate on main cutting forces (Fc) and average surface roughness (Ra) in the turning process of AISI 4140 steel was investigated both experimentally and statistically. Accordingly, signal/noise (S/N) ratios and artificial neural networks (ANN) were used to evaluate the experimental results. As cutting parameters in machining experiments, three different cutting speeds (75, 100, 125 m/min), three different feed rates (0.16 - 0.25 - 0.5 mm/rev), three different MQL flow rates (0.35 - 0.8 - 1.7 ml/min) and a constant depth of cut (2.5 mm) were selected. In machining experiments, it was determined that the increase in MQL flow rate is more effective on Fc than Ra. It was also seen that both Fc and Ra increased with the feed, and generally decreased with the cutting speed in all MQL flow rate applications. R2 values obtained through S/N ratios and ANN for Fc and Ra were found to be R2 S/N(Fc)= 0.9996, R2 S/N(Ra)= 0.9984, R2 YSA(Fc)= 0.9990 and R2 YSA(Ra)= 0.9884. According to S/N ratios, it was determined that the most effective control factors on Fc and Ra are feed rate, cutting speed and MQL flow rate, respectively. Depending on the regression values obtained, it was determined that S/N ratios and ANN are valid in predicting experimental data at high confidence intervals.

Bu çalışmada, AA2024 alüminyum alaşımı malzemelerin lazer kaynağı sırasında uygulanan farklı kaynak parametrelerinin çekme mukavemeti üzerindeki etkileri araştırılmış ve en uygun kaynak parametrelerini elde etmek için Taguchi ve ANOVA yöntemleri kullanılarak optimizasyonları yapılmıştır. Değişken kaynak parametreleri olarak lazer gücü, darbe süresi, ışın güç yoğunluğu ve darbe enerjisi kullanılmıştır. Sonuçlar, en düşük çekme dayanımının, 1800 W lazer gücünde, 5 ms darbe süresinde, 6000 W/mm2 ışın güç yoğunluğunda ve 9,5 Joule darbe enerjisi kullanılarak elde edildiğini, en yüksek çekme dayanımının ise 2600 W lazer gücünde, 6 ms darbe süresinde, 6500 W/mm2 ışın güç yoğunluğunda ve 9,5 Joule darbe enerjisi kullanılarak elde edildiğini göstermiştir. En yüksek çekme dayanımı (174 MPa) ile en düşük çekme dayanımı (113 MPa) sonuçları karşılaştırıldığında, en yüksek çekme dayanımının en düşük çekme dayanımından %53,98 daha yüksek olduğu bulunmuştur. S/N oranlarına göre, 2600 W lazer gücü, 6 ms darbe süresi, 7000 W/mm2 ışın güç yoğunluğu ve 10,5 Joule darbe enerjisinin AA2024 alüminyum alaşımının lazer kaynağı ile kaynak edilmesi için en optimum kaynak parametreleri olduğu anlaşılmıştır. ANOVA analizine göre ortalama çekme dayanımı üzerinde en etkili parametrenin lazer gücü (%82,45) olduğu belirlenmiştir., In this study, the effects of different welding parameters applied during laser welding of AA2024 aluminum alloy materials on the tensile strength were investigated and their optimizations were made using Taguchi and ANOVA methods to obtain the most suitable welding parameters. The variable welding parameters such as laser power, pulse duration, beam power density and pulse energy were used in the study. As a result, it was concluded that the lowest tensile strength was obtained when 1800 W laser power, 5 ms pulse duration, 6000 W/mm2 beam power density and 9.5 Joule pulse energy were used, while the highest tensile strength was obtained using 2600 W laser power, 6 ms pulse duration, 6500 W/mm2 beam power density and 9.5 Joule pulse energy. When the results of the highest tensile strength (174 MPa) and the lowest tensile strength (113 MPa) were compared, it was found that the highest tensile strength was 53.98%, which was higher than the lowest tensile strength.

Although Inconel 718 is an important material for modern aircraft and aerospace, it is a kind material, which is known to have low machinability. Especially, while these types of materials are machined, high cutting temperatures, BUE on cutting tool, high cutting forces, and work hardening occur. Therefore, in recent years, instead of producing new cutting tools that can withstand these difficult conditions, cryogenic process, which is a heat treatment method to increase the wear resistance and hardness of the cutting tool, has been applied. In this experimental study, feed force, surface roughness, vibration, cutting tool wear, hardness, and abrasive wear values that occurred as a result of milling of Inconel 718 material by means of cryogenically treated and untreated cutting tools were investigated. Three different cutting speeds (35-45-55 m/min) and three different feed rates (0.02- 0.03-0.04 mm/tooth) at constant depth of cut (0.2 mm) were used as cutting parameters in the experiments. As a result of the experiments, lower feed forces, surface roughness, vibration, and cutting tool wear were obtained with cryogenically treated cutting tools. As the feed rate and cutting speed were increased, it was seen that surface roughness, vibration, and feed force values increased. At the end of the experiments, it was established that there was a significant relation between vibration and surface roughness. However, there appeared an inverse proportion between abrasive wear and hardness values. While BUE did not occur during cryogenically treated cutting tools, it was observed that BUE occurred in cutting tools which were not cryogenically treated. Also, in this study, the statistical validity of the experimental values was tested with the help of secondorder equations and analyses of variance (ANOVA). R2 values obtained as 99.14%, 99.76%, and 97.98% for vibration, surface roughness, and feed force values were modeled statistically with the help of second-order equations, respectively.

Martensitic stainless steel AISI 431 and low carbon steel AISI 1020 are materials used together in many different industries. However, important problems are encountered when welding (fusion welding) these materials to each other. For this reason, friction welding process (Solid-state welding) is used to join these dissimilar metals. There are very few studies on joining these materials with friction welding. Therefore, the optimization of the welding parameters used in joining these dissimilar steel pairs with friction welding is of great important. In addition, the effects of the factors dependent on friction welding parameters need to be well understood. In this study, AISI 431 and AISI 1020 steel bars were successfully joined by friction welding, and the effects of welding parameters on tensile strength and axial shortening were investigated, and welding parameters were optimized using Taguchi method to obtain quality weld joints. The experimental results of the study showed that the highest tensile strength (573.32 MPa) of the joints was 54.53%, higher than the lowest tensile strength (370.99 MPa), the highest axial shortening (23.18 mm) was 650.16%, higher than the lowest axial shortening (3.09 mm). The optimal parameters for average axial shortening and average tensile strength were determined as A3B1C3 and A3B3C2; and the highest percentage contribution values for axial shortening and tensile strength were found to be 51.55% (rotating speed) and 63.90% (rotating speed); and R2 values for the average axial shortening and average tensile strengths were found to be 97% and 99.3%, respectively., Martensitik paslanmaz çelik AISI 431 ve düşük karbonlu çelik AISI 1020 birçok farklı endüstride birlikte kullanılan malzemelerdir. Ancak bu malzemeleri kaynak ederken (Fusion welding) önemli sorunlarla karşılaşılmaktadır. Bu nedenle, birbirine benzemeyen bu metalleri birleştirmek için sürtünme kaynağı işlemi (Solid-state welding) kullanılmaktadır. Bu malzemelerin sürtünme kaynağı ile birleştirilmesi konusunda çok az çalışma bulunmaktadır. Bu yüzden, birbirine benzemeyen bu çelik çiftlerinin sürtünme kaynağı ile birleştirilmesinde kullanılan kaynak parametrelerinin optimizasyonu büyük önem taşımaktadır. Ayrıca sürtünme kaynağı parametrelerine bağlı faktörlerin etkilerinin iyi anlaşılması gerekmektedir. Bu çalışmada, AISI 431 ve AISI 1020 çelik çubuklar sürtünme kaynağı ile başarılı bir şekilde birleştirilmiş, kaynak parametrelerinin çekme mukavemeti ve eksenel kısalma üzerindeki etkileri araştırılmış ve kaliteli kaynak bağlantıları elde etmek için Taguchi yöntemi kullanılarak kaynak parametreleri optimize edilmiştir. Çalışmanın deneysel sonuçları, bağlantıların en yüksek çekme dayanımının (573.32 MPa) %54.53, en düşük çekme dayanımından (370.99 MPa) daha yüksek olduğunu, en yüksek eksenel kısalmanın (23.18 mm) %650.16, en düşük eksenel kısalmadan (3,09 mm) daha yüksek olduğunu göstermiştir. Ortalama eksenel kısalma ve ortalama çekme mukavemeti için optimal parametreler A3B1C3 ve A3B3C2 olarak belirlendi; ve sırasıyla, eksenel kısalma ve çekme mukavemeti için en yüksek yüzde katkıdeğerleri %51.55 (dönme hızı) ve %63.90 (dönme hızı); ortalama eksenel kısalma ve ortalama çekme dayanımları için R2 değerleri %97 ve %99.3 olarak bulunmuştur.

Günümüzde fosil enerji kaynaklarının temininde yaşanan sorunlar ve bu kaynakların sınırlı bir rezerve sahip olmasından dolayı yenilenebilir enerji kaynakları giderek artan bir öneme sahip olmuştur. Fosil enerjinin çevresel etkileri de yenilenebilir kaynakların önemini artıran bir diğer faktör olmuştur. Bu bağlamda başta odun, bitki, tarımsal ve orman kalıntı ve artıklarından oluşan biyokütle yenilenebilir enerji kaynakları arasında önemli bir yere sahiptir. Ülkemizde fındık, fıstık ve ceviz gibi sert kabuklu yemişlerin kabukları yüksek bir atık potansiyeline sahip bir biyokütle kaynağı olarak değerlendirilebilir. Bu biyokütle kaynakları direk olarak (örneğin yakılarak) enerji üretiminde kullanılabildikleri gibi bunlardan farklı yöntemler ile biyoyakıt elde edilmesi de mümkündür. Bu bağlamda ülkemizde yıllık yüksek miktarlarda oluşan bir atık kaynak olarak antep fıstığı kabuklarının biyokütle olarak değerlendirilmesi büyük önem taşımaktadır. Bu çalışmada antep fıstığı kabuklarının biyokütle kaynağı olarak değerlendirilmesi araştırılmıştır. Bu amaçla Batman ve çevresinin antep fıstığı potansiyeli araştırıldıktan sonra farklı yörelere ait fıstık kabuklarının analizi yapılmıştır. Batman 2021 yılı için 963 ton antep fıstığı üretimi ile Şanlıurfa, Gaziantep, Siirt ve Kilis’ten sonra en fazla üretim yapılan il olmuştur. Yapılan analiz sonucu fıstık kabuklarının yüksek oranda (ortalama %45) karbon ve oksijen (ortalama %48) içerdiği belirlenmiştir. Analizi yapılan numunelerin ortalama ısıl değeri ise 15 MJ/kg olarak tespit edilmiştir., Renewable energy resources have become increasingly important due to the problems experienced in the supply of fossil energy resources and the limited reserves of these resources. The environmental effects of fossil energy have also been another factor increasing the importance of renewable resources. In this context, biomass, which consists primarily of wood, plant, agricultural and forest residues, has a great importance among renewable energies. In our country, the shells of nuts such as hazelnuts, Pistachio and walnuts can be evaluated as a biomass source with a high waste potential. These biomass sources can be used directly (for example, by burning) in energy production, and it is also possible to obtain biofuels from them by different methods. In this context, it is of great importance to evaluate pistachio shells as biomass, which is a waste source that occurs in high amounts annually in our country. In this study, the evaluation of pistachio shells as a source of biomass was investigated. For this purpose, after investigating the pistachio potential of Batman and its surroundings, pistachio shells from different regions were analysed. Batman has been the province with the highest production after Şanlıurfa, Gaziantep, Siirt and Kilis with 963 tons of pistachio production for 2021. It was determined that the shells obtained from pistachios grown in Batman contain high levels of carbon (average 45%) and oxygen (average 48%). The average calorific value of the analysed samples was determined as 15 MJ/kg.

ÖN SÖZ Kurulu bulundukları kentlerin evrensel bilgiye açılan kapısı olan üniversiteler, şehirlerin sosyal ve ekonomik kalkınmasına destek verir. Üniversiteler; yerel yönetimler, kamu kurum ve kuruluşları, sivil toplum örgütleri, ticaret ve sanayi kuruluşları dâhil olmak üzere şehirde var olan çok sayıda kurum ve topluluklarla ilişki içindedirler. Batman Üniversitesi, yapılan bilimsel faaliyetler sayesinde ülkemizin, bölgemizin ve Batman’ın gelişimine katkı sunma arayışı içinde olmuştur. Bu arayış doğrultsusunda Batman Üniversitesi öncülüğünde 28 Haziran – 5 Temmuz 2021 tarihleri arasında “Batman Vizyon-2030 Arama Konferansı” gerçekleştirilmiştir. Bu konferans, en üst seviyede araştırma yapılan ve bilgi üretilen kurumlar olan üniversitelerin bulundukları kentlere sosyo-ekonomik açıdan canlılık kazandırması ve bu kentlerin gelişimine katkı sunması gerektiği inancıyla yapılmıştır. Kent paydaşlarının katkısının eş güdümlü olarak ortaya çıkmasını sağlamak, hedef odaklı olmasını temin etmek, kentin gelecek projeksiyonunu ortaya koymak, sorunlara ortak, akılcı ve kapsayıcı çözümler üretebilmek için Batman Üniversitesinin ev sahipliğinde; Batman’ın geleceğinde iddia ve söz sahibi olan tüm kamu kurum ve kuruluşlarının yanı sıra sivil toplum kuruluşları, özel sektör temsilcileri, akademisyen ve öğrencilerin değerli görüşleri doğrultusunda söz konusu konferansımız gerçekleştirilmiştir. Batman’ın bölgesel, ulusal ve uluslararası düzeyde rekabet gücünü belirlemek ve bu gücü daha ileri taşımak amacıyla kentin bugünü ve geleceğinde iddia ve söz sahibi kamu/özel kurum ve kuruluşlar, akademisyenler ve öğrencilerinin de katıldığı toplantılar ile Batman’ın kısa, orta ve uzun dönemde sorunlarının tespiti ve bu sorunların giderilmesine yönelik çözüm önerileri ortaya konulmuştur. “Batman Vizyon-2030 Arama Konferansı”nda Batman’ın gelişiminde rol alan tüm paydaşlar bir araya getirilerek mevcut durumun analizi yapılmış, kentin gelişimine ilişkin sorunlar ve bu sorunlara ilişkin çözüm önerileri ile gelişime açık yönlerin tespitine yönelik çözüm yolları üretilmiştir. Batman’da enerji, petrol, sanayi, ticaret, tarım, hayvancılık, kentleşme, kalkınma, istihdam, işsizlik, eğitim, sağlık, kültür, turizm, kadın, aile, çocuk, sanat, sosyal yaşam, gençlik ve spor gibi pek çok konu başlığı enine boyuna ele alınıp değerlendirilmiştir. Batman iline ilişkin arama konferansında yapılan önermeler, sunumlar ve GZFT analizleri daha sonra Üniversitemiz akademisyenlerinden oluşan alt gruplarca kitap bölümü taslağı hâline getirilmiştir. Bir şehrin gelecek vizyonu açısından önemli olduğunu düşündüğümüz “Batman-2030 Vizyon Konferansı” ile Batman’ın gelişiminde rol alan tüm paydaşlar bir araya getirilerek mevcut durum analizi yapılmış, sorunlar ve çözüm önerileri ile gelişime açık yönlerin tespitine yönelik öneriler sunularak şehrin gelişim projeksiyonlarına katkı sunulmak istenmiştir. “Batman-2030 Vizyon Konferansı” ile Batman Üniversitesinin şehrin gelecekteki gelişimindeki katkılarını ortak akılla tasarlamak, vizyonunu oluşturmak, stratejileri ve bunun için gerekli eylem planlarını belirlemek üzere gerçekleştirilmiştir. Konferans kapsamında yapılan sunumlardan sonra moderatör tarafından katılımcılara sorunlar, bu sorunlara ilişkin çözüm önerileri, yaratılabilecek fırsatlar, güçlü ve zayıf yönler, alınabilecek tedbirler konularında 5-10 dakika söz hakkı verilmiştir. Moderatörler, panelleri çevrim içi olarak yönetmiş olup konuşmacıları tanıttıktan sonra onlara söz hakkı vermiştir. Moderatör ve rapotörler, sunumlar ve grup toplantıları sırasında notlar alarak katılımcılara Batman ilinin ilgili oturum başlığındaki sorunları, bu sorunlara ilişkin çözüm önerileri, yaratılabilecek olan fırsatları, güçlü ve zayıf yönleri, alınabilecek tedbirler konularında görüş bildirmeleri için çeşitli sorular yöneltmişlerdir. “Batman Vizyon-2030 Arama Konferansı” kapsamında hazırlanan bu kitap, yayına pek çok araştırmacının emeğiyle hazırlanmıştır. Oturumlarda dile getirilen hususlar, ilgili bölüm yazarları tarafından belli bir plan çerçevesi içinde yazıya aktarılmaya çalışılmıştır. Konferans oturumları sona erdikten sonra ilgili bölüm moderatör, raportörler ve bölüm yazarlarınca konferans sırasında alınan notlar ve videolardaki metin çözümlemelerinden sonra yazıya aktarılmıştır. Bu açıdan çevrim içi konferans görüntüleri ilgililerce tekrar izlenmiş, yapılan sunum ile hazırlanan dokümanlar incelenip derlenmiş ve ilgili bölüm yazılmıştır. Bu amaçla katılım sağlayan bütün katılımcılardan varsa hazırladıkları sunum, doküman, konuşmalar talep edilerek değerlendirilmiş ve bu doğrultuda konuşmacılara ait tanıtıcı bilgilere yer verilmiştir. Şüphesiz ki dile getirilen bütün fikirler değerlidir; ancak öne sürülen düşüncelerin belli bir sistematik ve plan dâhilinde yazıya geçirilebilmesi için belli hususlar veya sınırlandırmaların göz önünde tutulması elzem olmuştur. Bu açıdan katılımcılar tarafından altı çizilen ve fikir birliğine varılan hususların öne çıkarılmasının daha faydalı olacağı düşünülmüştür. “Batman Vizyon 2030 Arama Konferansı”nın oturumlarında katılımcılar birçok önemli noktaya değinmiş olup katılımcı görüşleri rapor içinde vurgulanmıştır. Oturum sürelerinin uzun olmasından ötürü rapordaki söz konusu bu temalara ilişkin katılımcıların kimi görüşlerine yer verilmeye çalışılmıştır. Her bölümün ilk kısmında, kuramsal ve kavramsal değerlendirmeler yapılmış, ikinci bölümde çalışmanın ana gövdesini teşkil eden konferans katılımcılarının görüş ve önerileri aktarılarak öne çıkan hususlar ortaya konulmuştur. Üçüncü bölümde SWOT analizi yöntemi ile Batman ilinin ilgili konu bağlamında içsel ve dışsal analizi yapılarak Batman’ın ilgili sahadaki güçlü yönleri/zayıf yönleri, fırsatları/tehditleri ortaya konulmuştur. Konferans katılımcılarının söylediklerinin tümü tematik olarak metne yansıtılmıştır. “Katılımcılardan Notlar” başlığında ise konferans oturumlarında söylenenlerden hareketle yalnızca kısa not/özetlere yer verilebilmiştir. Birçok önemli noktaya değinen katılımcıların söylediklerinin tümünün bölümlerde bütünlük içerisinde verilmesinin mümkün olmaması ve istenen çıktıların açık olarak kitaba yansıtılamayacağı kaygısı nedeniyle seçilen konuşmalar kısa tutulmaya çalışılmıştır. In this study, the AA7075 alloy pairs were welded by friction stir welding method by using conical- and triangular-type stirrer pins. Welding forces and moments, vibration, and temperature values have been measured during the jointing depending on the welding parameters. Finally, microstructures were examined and mechanical tests were carried out. Results obtained from the experiments revealed that at low spindle speed and welding feed rates, the temperatures formed on the surface of the alloy pair were high, the vibrations were low, and the welding force and moments were partially high. When the microstructures of the welded areas are examined, it was determined that the conical mixing pin has a better microstructure than the triangular mixing pin. In addition, it was determined that the mechanical properties of welded joints having a good microstructure were quite good. As a result, it was observed that forces during welding, temperature of welding, and vibration values have an effect on microstructure and mechanical properties.

Sandviç kompozit malzemeler düşük ağırlıkla birlikte sundukları yüksek mukavemet sayesinde birçok mühendislik uygulmasında tercih edilir. Gerçekleştirilen çalışmada cıvata ile birleştirilen karbon fiber yüzey malzemesi ve alüminyum bal peteği çekirdeğe sahip sandviç kompozitlerin çekme yüklemesi durumunda davranışları incelenmiştir. Farklı yüzey malzemesi kalınlığı, hücre yüksekliği, cıvata sayısı ve cıvata çaplarında numuneler üretilmiştir. Belirtilen parametrelere ek olarak cıvata bağlantısı için sandviç kompozit numunelere açılan delikler karbon fiber takviyeli kompozit malzeme ile takviye edilmiş ve bağlantıların çekme davranışı takviyesiz malzeme ile karşılaştırılmıştır. Sonuçlar yüzey malzemesi kalınlığını artmasının bağlantı mukavemetini %91 oranında arttırdığını ancak buna karşın çekirdek malzemesi kalınlığının artmasının bağlantı mukavemetini düşürdüğünü göstermiştir. Sandviç numunelerde açılan delikleri takviye etmek için karbon fiber takviyeli kompozit kullanılması 0.5 mm yüzey malzemesi kalınlığına sahip numunelerde bağlantı mukavemetini %48 arttırmıştır. Özellikle en ince yüzey malzemesi kalınlığı değeri olan 0.5 mm için bağlantı mukavemetindeki artış daha belirgin olmuştur, Sandwich composite materials are preferred in many engineering applications thanks to having the high strength they offer together with low weight. In this study, the tensile loading behavior of sandwich composites produced with carbon fiber face sheet material and aluminum honeycomb core joined with bolts was investigated. Samples were produced with different surface material thickness, cell height, bolt number and bolt diameters. In addition to the specified parameters, the holes drilled into the sandwich composite specimens for bolt connection were reinforced with carbon fiber reinforced composite material and the tensile behavior of the connections was compared with the non-reinforced material. The results showed that joint strength increased about 91% with increasing the thickness of the face sheet material, whereas increasing the core material thickness decreased the joint strength. The use of carbon fiberreinforced composite to reinforce the drilled holes in the sandwich samples increased the joint strength 48% for 0.5 mm face sheet used samples. Especially for the thinnest surface material thickness value of 0.5 mm, the increase in bond strength was more pronounced.

The aim of this study is to determine the effect of graphene nanoparticle (GNP) reinforcement on the mechanical properties of glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP), carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) and aramid fiber reinforced polymer (AFRP) composites commonly used in the space and defense industry. Accordingly, GFRP, CFRP and AFRP composites were produced by using hot pressing method. In addition, hybrid fiber composites were produced by adding 0.1 %, 0.2 % and 0.3 % GNP to these fiber reinforced composites. The tensile strength and modulus of elasticity of the composites were determined. The tensile damage fracture regions were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy distribution spectrum (EDS). It was observed that the addition of 0.2 wt. % GNP to GFRP and CFRP composites increased tensile strength and modulus of elasticity. However, the addition of 0.2 wt. % GNP to AFRP composites had no effect on the tensile strength; on the contrary, it partially reduced the tensile strength but increased the modulus of elasticity. On the fracture damage surfaces of the GFRP and CFRP composites and the GNP/GFRP and GNP/CFRP hybrid composites, the fibers were completely separated. On the damage surfaces of AFRP composite and GNP/AFRP hybrid composites, the fibers were deformed but these fibers were not separated from each other. From the EDS analysis, it was observed that the element C increased in the composites with the addition of GNP to the fiber reinforced composites.

In this study, the effect of dimethyl ether (DME) addition to diesel (ultralow sulfur diesel fuel) and biodiesel fuels on the combustion, performance, and emissions of a diesel-powered generator was investigated. For this purpose, fuel samples of the ternary blend that volumetrically composed of 10% safflower biodiesel–10% dimethyl ether–80% ultralow sulfur diesel fuel (B10DME10), the ternary blend that volumetrically composed of 25% safflower biodiesel–25% dimethyl ether–50% ultralow sulfur diesel fuel (B25DME25), the binary blend that volumetrically composed of 25% safflower biodiesel–75% ultralow sulfur diesel fuel (B10DME10) B25 , and pure safflower oil biodiesel (B100) and standard ultralow sulfur diesel (D2) were prepared. The test engine was loaded by power drawing from the generator by the usage of equivalent powered electrical heating resistances. Generally, using DME with biodiesel improved the combustion properties of biodiesel blends that can be attributed to the lower viscosity of DME. The maximum cylinder pressure was obtained for B10DME10 in general and sometimes for B25DME25. When test fuels are compared, DME blends showed higher and earlier peaks of heat release compared to diesel and biodiesel blend fuels especially. It was found that combustion is more efficient from mass fuel consumption (MFC) and brake specific fuel consumption (BSFC) values in the use of DME than biodiesel. BSEC values of using DME in the blends considerably decreased that it is the proof of improved combustion and energy efficiency. The highest average efficiency values were obtained for B25DME25 as 28.3% although it has a lower calorific value than D2 due to the considerably improved combustion properties of DME, while the average efficiency values were 23.1%, 23.3%, and 20.7% for D2, B25, and B100 fuels, respectively. Highest carbon monoxide (CO) emissions were obtained in the use of pure biodiesel, while the lowest CO emissions were obtained in the use of DME. Genel olarak, biyodizel ile DME kullanılması, DME'nin düşük viskozitesine atfedilebilecek biyodizel karışımlarının yanma özelliklerini iyileştirmiştir. Genel olarak B10DME10 ve bazen B25DME25 için maksimum silindir basıncı elde edildi. Test yakıtları karşılaştırıldığında, DME karışımları, özellikle dizel ve biyodizel karışım yakıtlarına kıyasla daha yüksek ve daha erken ısı salınımı pikleri göstermiştir. DME kullanımında kütle yakıt tüketimi (MFC) ve fren özgül yakıt tüketimi (BSFC) değerlerinden yanmanın biyodizelden daha verimli olduğu bulunmuştur. DME'nin karışımlarda kullanılmasının KEİ değerleri, iyileştirilmiş yanma ve enerji verimliliğinin kanıtı olduğunu önemli ölçüde azaltmıştır. DME'nin önemli ölçüde geliştirilmiş yanma özellikleri nedeniyle D2'den daha düşük bir kalorifik değere sahip olmasına rağmen en yüksek ortalama verim değerleri %28,3 ile B25DME25 için elde edilirken, ortalama verim değerleri D2, B25 için %23,1, %23,3 ve %20,7 olmuştur. , ve sırasıyla B100 yakıtları. In this study, hazelnut, pistachio, and apricot kernel shells were ground size of 0–300 µm, 300–600 µm, and 600–850 µm. The cellulose, ash, humidity, and metal contents of these powder particles were chemically analyzed and structural properties were characterized using X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometer (FT-IR) analysis. Their composites were fabricated by adding 0%, 10%, 20%, and 30% by weight of these powder particles to the polyester matrix material. The effect of chemical and structural properties of the powder particles on the physical, thermal, and mechanical properties of the composites was analyzed. The XRD analysis revealed that cellulose structure observed in powder particles. The peaks observed in their surface functional structures with FT-IR were mainly caused by cellulose and hemicellulose structures. These structures effected humidity and ash ratios. Nitrogen, carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen elements were seen in the structure. In addition, heavy metals such as Sn, Ca, K, Na, Mg, Fe, Ni, Mn, Cu, Zn, and Si were found. Powder particles added to the polyester material adversely affected the tensile strength of the matrix material. However, powder particles added to the matrix material at low rates had a positive effect on bending and compressive strength.

In this study, both experimental and theoretical investigations are performed to obtain new concrete types with high thermal insulating characteristics for energy-efficient buildings. In this regard, 102 new concrete wall samples were produced using different aggregates at different volume fractions, and their thermophysical properties were tested according to EN and ASTM standards. The experimental research focused on developing new wall or roof types with higher thermal insulation properties in order to reduce the energy consumption of buildings due to heating or cooling. In order to specify the thermal performance of developed lightweight concretes, an analytical solution method is developed by the Complex Finite Fourier Transform CFFT method to estimate heat gain utilizing measured thermophysical properties data of those samples. The results indicated that the reduction in heat gain value was obtained as 83.21 % for the PC100 wall corresponding to conventional concrete. Consequently, the thermal insulation effect of those samples shows excellent potential for development.

Snow plow equipment is produced with chassis connections suitable for trucks, pickup trucks, tractors, construction machines and pick-ups and mounted in front of the vehicles. In this study, the stress and deflection values of the safety pin used in snow plow equipment will be examined by testing with finite element analysis. In this study, a damaged safety pin was analyzed numerically. The damaged safety pin was modeled with Solidworks package program and stress analysis was performed by ANSYS Workbench package program. In this analysis, the properties of the safety pin made of St37 steel were used. As a result , it was observed that the safety pin was damaged due to the stress distribution.

Bir taşıtın şüphesiz en önemli kısımlarından bir tanesi fren sistemidir. Fren sistemleri, motorlu taşıtların yavaşlamasını ve durmasını sağlayan düzeneklerdir. Bir araçta fren sistemi ne kadar kuvvetli ve tesirliyse o taşıt da o kadar güvenlidir. Bilinçli tüketiciler araç tercihinde bulunurken aracın nasıl gittiğinden veya konforundan ziyade ne şekilde durduğuyla da ilgilenir. Eğer giden araç hızlı v e güvenli bir şekilde durma sağlayamıyorsa o markayı tüketici güvenli bulmaz ve tercih etmez. Böylece tüketici başka güvenli araçlara yönelim sağlar ve onları tercih eder. Günümüzde üretilen bütün yeni nesil modern araçlar fren sisteminde diğer fren çeşitlerinden ziyade disk frenleri tercih etmektedir. Fren diskleri taşıtların fren sisteminde bulunur. Bu diskler taşıtların düzgün yavaşlamasına yarayan fren sistem in in önemli parçalarından biridir. Disk fren sistemleri frenlemeyi kaliper ve balatalar arasındaki diski sıkmak suretiyle frenlemeyi sağlayan bir sistemdir. Bu çalışmada, kullanımı neticesinde hasar almış bir adet fren diski piyasadan tem in edilmiştir. Hasarlı olan ve çeşitli aşınmalara maruz kalmış olan bu fren diski incelenmiştir. Kırılma ve aşınma nedenleri araştırılmış ve sonlu elemanlar yöntemi kullanılarak analiz edilmiştir. Solidworks paket programı kullanılarak parça modellemesi yapılmıştır. Modellenen bu fren diski ANSYS paket programı kullanılarak analiz edilmiştir. Bu analiz sonucunda Fren diskinde meydana gelen hasarın nedenleri bulunmuştur.

The present work investigates the effects of bioethanol as fuel additive on a diesel power generator’s exhaust emission (especially under transient conditions) characteristics, during the start-up followed by idling and warm-up periods, from no load to loaded cases up to 50% at ambient conditions. Experiments with diesel/bioethanol blends in 10% and 15% proportions (denoted as BE10 and BE15, respectively) were achieved in a diesel power generator following the practical operating conditions of the gen-sets. Regarding emissions, CO increased first when bioethanol is used during start-up at no load, then it starts to decrease by increasing bioethanol fraction in diesel and load applied. Unburnt HC emissions were also measured as highest for all fuels tested during start-up, while they were slightly higher for BE15 than others in the rest of the test. NOx was highest with petroleum diesel, while it was lowest with BE15 at start-up. Despite higher NOx was measured with BE10, those of petroleum diesel and BE15 were similar during warm-up together with applying load. Smoke opacity was lowest in BE15; however, BE10 was highest. By applying load, it increased and the highest NOx was measured with BE10, while the lowest was with BE15.

The energy demand from renewable energy sources has been proportionally increased due to population growth. In renewable energy production, not only energy production but also efficient use is crucial. In recent years, photovoltaic panels, which are increasingly used and highly important in terms of renewable energy production, have warmed on the surface due to the radiation energy emitted by the sun, and this warmth reduces the efficiency of the panel. In this study, it is aimed to reduce this efficiency loss by using phase changing material with latent heat which is one of the thermal energy storage methods. One of the two solar panels placed parallel to the ground was filled with phase changing material. With this, it is aimed to cool photovoltaic panel by using calcium chloride hexahydrate phase changing material; and then radiation, air temperature, current, voltage, power, surface temperature, efficiency graphs were obtained. As a result of simultaneous measurements, the increase in yield was found to be 2.95%.

Tornalama işlemlerinde, istenmeyen yüksek değerlerdeki yüzey pürüzlülük ve titreşim değerlerini gidermek için iş parçaları tezgâha doğru bir şekilde bağlanması gerekmektedir. Bir iş parçası; uygun bir basınç ile ayna ve punta arasına bağlanmadığında, bu, onun eksenden kaçık salgılı bir şekilde dönmesine ve ölçü tamlığının bozulmasına yol açmaktadır. Bunun sonucunda, iş parçasında istenmeyen, yüksek değerlerde yüzey pürüzlülük ve titreşim değerleri meydana gelir. Bu çalışmanın amacı, Taguchi metodunu kullanarak AISI 304 paslanmaz çeliğinin tornalanmasında en düşük yüzey pürüzlülüğü ve titreşim değerlerini elde etmek için en uygun ayna ve punta basıncını tespit etmektir. İşleme deneylerinde, sabit kesme hızı, ilerleme ve kesme derinliğinde 5 farklı ayna ve punta basıncı kullanılmıştır. Deney tasarımı için Taguchi L25 (5^2) ortogonal dizilimi seçilmiştir. En küçük en iyidir yaklaşımına göre S/N (sinyal/gürültü) oranı kullanılarak yüzey pürüzlülüğü ve titreşim değerleri için en uygun ayna ve punta basıncı belirlenmiştir. S/N oranlarına göre optimum ve en düşük titreşim değerlerini veren ayna ve punta basıncı sırasıyla 18 bar ve 5 bar iken, optimum yüzey pürüzlülük değerlerini veren ayna ve punta basıncı değerleri ise sırasıyla 18 bar ve 11 bar olarak tespit edilmiştir. Fakat en düşük yüzey pürüzlülük değeri ise ayna basıncı 18 bar ve punta basıncı 5 barda elde edilmiştir. Taguchi deney tasarımındaki S/N oranı sonuçlarına göre, yüzey pürüzlülüğü ve titreşim üzerinde ayna basıncının punta basıncından daha etkili olduğu ortaya çıkmıştır. Sonuç olarak; ayna ve punta basıncı parametrelerinin optimizasyonu için Taguchi yöntemindeki faktör tasarımının; basit, sistematik ve verimli bir yöntem olduğu anlaşılmıştır., In turning operations, the workpieces must be correctly attached to the workbench to eliminate undesirable high values of surface roughness and vibration. When a workpiece is not attached with an appropriate pressure between chuck and tailstock, this will cause it to rotate eccentrically out-of-axis and deterioration of dimensional accuracy. As a result of this, undesirable high surface roughness values and vibrations in the workpiece occur. The aim of this study is to determine the optimum chuck and tailstock pressure using Taguchi method in order to obtain the lowest surface roughness and vibration values in turning of AISI 304 stainless steel. In the machining experiments, at constant cutting speed, feed and depth of cut, 5 different chuck and tailstock pressures, were used. For the experimental design, Taguchi L25 (5^2) orthogonal array was chosen. According to the-smaller-thebetter approach, optimum chuck and tailstock pressures were determined for surface roughness and vibration values using S/N (signal/noise) ratio. According to S/N ratios, the optimum and lowest vibration values were determined as 18 bar and 5 bar, respectively, while the optimum surface roughness values were determined as 18 bar and 11 bar, respectively. However, the lowest surface roughness value was obtained when the chuck pressure was 18 bar and tailstock pressure was 5 bar. According to the results of the S/N ratio in Taguchi test design, it was revealed that the chuck pressure on surface roughness and vibration was more effective than the tailstock pressure. In conclusion, it was understood that factor design in Taguchi method is a simple, systematic and efficient method for optimization of chuck and tailstock pressure parameters.

The focus of the study is on the effect of copper addition on the porosity, microstructure and mechanical properties of hot pressed NiTi and NiTiCu shape memory alloys (SMAs), ignited by means of self-propagating high-temperature synthesis (SHS). Optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), energy dispersive spectrometry (EDS), hardness tests and compression tests were applied respectively to determine the microstructure and mechanical behavior of the samples. The experimental results show that the addition of Cu into NiTi SMAs increases porosity and microhardness but also reduces compressive strength.

Exploration of energy sources such as renewable and non-edible vegetable oils has been continued during the recent two decades of 2000s. Cottonseed oil is a non-edible, abundant oil and is generally used as cooking oil. In the present study, the usability of biodiesel derived from both cottonseed oil and its cooking wastes was investigated by blending them with ULSD or ethanol in 50 percentages. B50, WB50, B50E50 and WB50E50, biodiesel and ethanol-contained fuels and ULSD were prepared for experiments. Combustion, performance, and emissions tests were conducted on a diesel engine used for power-producing electrical generator. In the combustion tests, cylinder pressure, HRR, CHR, MGT, and MFB were analyzed while MFC, BSFC, exhaust manifold temperature, and thermal efficiency were obtained in the performance tests. In the emissions tests, CO, HC, and NOx emissions were measured and compared with the results of ULSD. Combustion and performance findings of ULSD contained biodiesel blends were found more similar to those of ULSD. The duration of combustion stage can clearly be seen to be narrowed for ethanol-contained blend because of the rabid combustion characteristics of ethanol. Besides, the peak of HRR was found 10% higher for B50E50 while it was found averagely 8% for WB50E50 blends. NOx emissions were found 48% lower averagely for ethanol contained biodiesel blends that it is the most important finding of ethanol using with biodiesel. Besides, HC emissions were also found about 75% for biodiesel contained diesel fuel blends.

Panel tilt angles (0°–90°) need to be in a proper position and location to get maximum productivity from solar energy. Values used in solar energy applications are generally computed by (global, diffuse, and direct) variation on horizontal surfaces calculated using isotropic sky and a mean albedo method. Being parallel to the available literature concerning such applications, this study focuses on the optimum solar panel angle. In this study, optimum solar panel angle value by months was determined for three sample provinces (Antalya, Kayseri, and Trabzon) first and North Hemisphere then. Capacity calculation of sample provinces was performed based on monthly, seasonal, and annual angle values and horizontal situation. Monthly and annual optimum angle values for Northern Hemisphere by 1° increase for between the latitudes of 1° N and 65° N. While the panel angle is at the highest level in autumn and winter (November-December-January and February) in annual process, the lowest angle is observed in spring and summer (May-June-July-August). Several different mathematical models have been developed for the sample provinces and Northern Hemisphere. While the variable of 12 different models that were developed for provinces is the Declination (δ) coefficient, the variable of 7 different models that were developed Northern Hemisphere is the latitude (Ø). Regional values in literature with estimation results of models were analyzed based on NASA and PVGIS data color scale. There was created a possibility of comparison by aligning all the optimum solar panel angle values of related location via a scale whose values vary by 1 and 10. Moreover, all the models were verified by statistical analysis methods. R2 (determination coefficient) in 19 different estimation equations is pretty close or equal to 1. However, the best among them is Eq. 32 (0.9979) for sample provinces and Eq. (33) (1) for the Northern Hemisphere; developed models are less-than-stellar. Other statistical data of these equations are MBE (−0.0616), RMSE (1.1176), t-sat (0.1830), Bias (1). For Eq. (32); MBE (1.96), RMSE (2.75), t-sat (8.13), MPE % (3.98), MAPE (5.87), SSRE (0.27), and RSE (0.06) for Eq. (33). The statistical analyzes indicate that all regression models are applicable in Turkey and Northern Hemisphere. Developed all correlations are recommended for academic and industrial users.

Insulating is the most effective method that is used to save energy in buildings. Samples from cities from different climatic zones from TS 825 (Turkey) first. Optimum insulation thickness () analysis is based on two types of insulating and four different fuels (natural gas, coal, fuel oil and electric) of related cities. Cost accounts, payback period and CO2-SO2 emission calculations were performed based on these analyses. Second of all, the relationship between a number of degree day (NDD) and optimum insulation thickness () was developed by linear, quadratic and cubic correlations. Thirty different mathematical correlations based on different fuel types by using XPS and EPS insulating materials. Twenty-four of these models that were developed were generated peculiar to the fuel type; six of them were generated based on average insulation thickness. R2 values of related correlations are between 0.9989 most and 0.9952 at least as well as it is pretty close to (R ≤ 1) one value. The model among these models is the cubic mathematical model that gives the best average value. a = 0.0036, b = 5E-05, c = – 7E-09 and d = 6E-13 are the values for XPS material. Following values are for EPS material; a = 0.0028, b = 5E-13, c = – 7E-09 and d = 4E-05. R2 determination coefficient of both two equations is pretty close to 0.9989 and 1; the models obtained are less-than-stellar. Optimum insulation thickness of the area can be known based on the type of material via the number of degree day without the need for long analyses. According to the R2 values, the use of all models is recommended for academic and industrial users.

WOS: 000467349000044, In this study, single lap joints were formed by adding nano-Al2O3, nano-TiO2 and nano-Al2O3 powders in various proportions to the epoxy adhesive and using the additive-free epoxy adhesive; and also the mechanical properties of the connections were experimentally investigated at 20, 25, 30, 50 and 70 mm overlap lengths under shear load. In the experimental work, DP460 epoxy adhesive was used as adhesive and AISI 304 stainless steel plate as adherent material. When the results obtained from the experiments were examined, it was revealed that the average damage load in connection with the use of nanoparticle-added adhesives increased considerably in general. As a result of the experiments, the most effective nanoparticle in increasing the failure strength of the adhesive joints with nano-Al2O3 particles and the maximum failure strength increase rate was 20 mm in overlap length and 97% in 4 wt% nano-Al2O3 reinforced specimens. It was also found that the nanoparticle strain was an important parameter in the tensile strength of the adhesive joints. “Grinding Mechanism having Advanced Secondary Rotational Axis” is one of the newer plane surface grinding methods that has an uncommon abrasion mechanism. Unlike conventional methods, in Grinding Mechanism having Advanced Secondary Rotational Axis, there are two rotations of a wheel. The first rotation is the same as the conventional grinding methods, which is the circumferential rotation. The other rotation is the newly developed axial rotation, where the wheel rotates around itself perpendicular to its radial axis. In the grinding process, the grinding force, energy, power, and temperature are directly related to the material removal rate. In this article, the chip model in Grinding Mechanism having Advanced Secondary Rotational Axis was addressed and material removal rate was reformulated. The new chip ratio formula was adapted to the grinding force, energy, power, and temperature in the conventional plane surface grinding method. The chip formed in the conventional plane surface grinding method consists of two-dimensional xy plane. In Grinding Mechanism having Advanced Secondary Rotational Axis, on the other hand, the chips consist of three-dimensional xyz plane. The reason behind this is the second rotation obtained in Grinding Mechanism having Advanced Secondary Rotational Axis (axial rotational motion). The chip model was obtained from the combination of two rotations in Grinding Mechanism having Advanced Secondary Rotational Axis. As a result, the resulting chip model increased the material removal rate only slightly and this increase was negligible. Accordingly, an increase in grinding force, energy, power, and temperature was observed at negligible rates.

In this study, the effects of Reactivity Controlled Compression Ignition (RCCI) application on engine combustion, performance and emissions in a diesel generator were investigated. In the experiments, safflower oil derived biodiesel and diesel mixtures were used as the high reactivity fuel (primary fuel) and gasoline as the low reactivity fuel. The RCCI application was provided by the connection of a secondary fuel injection system with the intake manifold. The gasoline RCCI application rate was 30% and 50% of the total mass fuel consumption of the engine and was pre-mixed as port fuel injection (PFI). Tests were performed at a constant engine load (10.8 kW) and engine speed of 1500 rpm. The purpose of using diesel and biodiesel mixtures is to increase the reactivity of the primary fuel that facilitates the start of the combustion. The combustion, performance and emissions, which are the most important parameters of the engine operation, have been thoroughly investigated and the results were presented. In RCCI application, in peak values of pressure, velocity of heat release, average gas temperature partial increases were determined. When the ratio of gasoline PFI was increased, the NOx emissions significantly decreased and the engine efficiency was also increased, while the CO and HC emissions were slightly increased.

In this study, the fatigue behaviors of non-patched and patched aluminum pipes were investigated numerically. The Finite Element Method was used for fatigue analysis in the study. Finite Element Method was implemented with Ansys Workbench (15.0) program. Al 6063 type aluminum pipe, DP-460 type adhesive and [0/90]2 reinforced angled glass-epoxy composite patch material were used in the analyzes. As a result of the numerical study, it was observed that patch size is an effective parameter in fatigue strength and that quarter-circle and semi-circular composite patches increase the fatigue life. It was also observed in the analyzes that the quarter-circle patched aluminum pipes achieved higher fatigue strength.

Solar tracking devices are efficacious in maximizing solar irradiation collection. However, higher price makes these systems less frequently used. As an alternative, optimum tilt angle estimation has the advantage that it does not involve tracking cost expenditure. In this study, optimum tilt angles for different months have been computed for Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh, India (L 31° 42′ N). Several mathematical models and statistical tools have been employed to forecast the monthly optimum tilt angles for the selected site. Different scenarios have been presented by considering five, four, three, and two annual adjustment models to increase the practical usage of the estimated optimum tilt angles. Additionally, cost-benefit analysis has also be performed on the PV panels. Based on the results, it has been concluded that model M − 11, with three annual adjustments, stipulates maximum benefits over the other models. This study can serve as fundamental guidance for setting up solar energy plants in this specified region with the highest efficiency.

In the present day, gear wheels are used to transmit mechanical power in land, sea and air vehicles. Damages can sometimes occur in these gear wheels used in machines. In order to prevent these damages, the use and importance of numerical programs increase with the developing technology. Damages that may occur can be determined in advance through these programs. Thus, material selection can be made with cost-effective analysis. In this study, a damaged helical gear, which is frequently used in car engines, was analyzed numerically. In the study, the damaged helical gear was first modeled with the help of Solidworks program and then static stress analysis was performed with the ANSYS Workbench Finite Elements Package program. In the analysis, the properties of the helical gear made of structural steel were used. Analizde yapısal çelikten yapılmış helis dişlinin özellikleri kullanılmıştır. Çalışma sonucunda emniyet gerilme sınırının aşılması nedeniyle helis dişlinin kırıldığı tespit edilmiştir.

Doğalgaz boru hatlarının imalat ve montajı aşamasında yapılan kontroller kalite, insan, çevre güvenliği ve emniyet bakımından çok önemlidir. Bu nedenle çalışmamızda, Mardin ili şehir içinde kullanılan doğalgaz boru hatlarının birleştirme kaynakları API 1104 standardına göre tahribatsız yöntemle muayene edilmiştir. Tahribatsız muayene için doğalgaz boru hattında kullanılan API 5L X42 standardındaki çelik boruların kaynaklı birleşme yerlerinin radyografik resimleri çekilerek hataları tespit edilmiş ve çözümler geliştirilmeye çalışılmıştır. Radyografik muayeneler sonucunda, birleştirme kaynağındaki hataların kullanılan elektrottan kaynaklandığı tespit edilmiştir. Ayrıca, çalışma kapsamında borulardan alınan kaynaklı çekme numuneleri ile tahribatlı deneyler de yapılmıştır. For this reason, in our study, the joining welds of natural gas pipelines used in the city of Mardin were examined with a non-destructive method according to API 1104 standard. Radiographic pictures of the welded joints of the API 5L X42 standard steel pipes used in the natural gas pipeline for non-destructive testing were taken, defects were detected and solutions were tried to be developed. As a result of the radiographic examinations, it was determined that the defects in the joining weld were caused by the electrode used. In addition, as part of the study, destructive tests were carried out with welded tensile samples taken from pipes. As a result of the tensile tests, it was seen that the optimal electrode for joint welding is T2-Pure electrode.

The evaluation of the shells of these foods is important due to their features such as low cost, ease of recycling and environmental friendliness. In this study, hazelnut shell (HS), pistachio shell (PS), and apricot kernel shell (AKS) were brought to powder particles by grinding to dimensions of 300-425 mu m. Some of the powder particles were converted into ash at 900 degrees C. The amounts of cellulose, ash, humidity, and metal in these particles via chemical analyses were determined, while their structural properties via X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR) analyses. Composite materials were produced by adding 15 wt.% to the polyester matrix material from these powder particles and ashes. Compression strength, hardness, specific weight, and thermal conductivity of these composites were analyzed. The lowest and highest humidity, ash, cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin ratios in powders showed differences depending on the type of powders. The amount of Sn and K in the HS, PS, and AKS powders were close to each other, while the amount of Ca, Na, Mg, Fe, Mn, Cu, Zn and Si was higher in AKS powder. The reinforcement adding to the polyester increased the compression strength, hardness, specific weight and thermal conductivity properties.

The increasing demand for energy and the fact that petroleum, which is the most used energy source, has a limited reserve, have led researchers to search for new and renewable energy sources. In this context, biofuels such as biodiesel and bio alcohols have been studied and used in internal combustion engines for a long time. However, with the developments in technology, the production and use of such alternative fuels in different engine technologies is still a subject of research. In this regard, isopropanol-butanol-ethanol (IBE) has received an increasing attention over standard alcohols and its potential as a substitute for other alcohol fuels in internal combustion engines has been researched recently. Therefore, the purpose of the experimental study is to investigate the effect of biodiesel addition at rates of 20% and 40% by volume in a blend of IBE (30% v/v) with petroleum-based diesel (70% v/v) on the combustion and emission characteristics of a single-cylinder common-rail direct injection engine at constant engine speed of 2400 rpm and 60% load conditions. Experimental results showed that all blended fuels presented a potential to reduce smoke opacity by 27% − 41%, CO emissions by 44% − 66% and unburnt HC emissions (up to 31.8%) but increase NOx emissions by 5% − 24.6% compared to diesel. However, adding biodiesel caused to a slight increase in smoke opacity and CO emissions while decrease in unburned HC and NOx emissions compared to the blend of IBE and diesel. Combustion analysis also showed that the use of blended fuels led to the increase of peak cylinder pressure (by 7%) and the significant improvement in the rate of heat release was observed, which further increased with the addition of biodiesel to blend of IBE and diesel. In this work, it is aimed to study the effects of dry machining and minimum quantity lubrication application on machinability in turning AISI 4140 steel by utilizing different cutting parameters. Also, this study contains effects and optimization of cutting conditions (dry and minimum quantity lubricating), feed rate, and cutting speed on surface roughness (Ra) and main cutting forces (Fc) determined by employing the Taguchi method. At the end of experiments, it was established that compared to dry machining operations, minimum quantity lubricating significantly reduced cutting tool wear, while Fc and Ra decreased in general. Analyses of variance, regression analysis, signal-to-noise ratio, and orthogonal array were employed to analyze the effects and contributions of independent variables on dependent variables. The optimum levels of the dependent variables for reducing Fc and Ra using signal-to-noise rates were established. According to signal-to-noise ratios, minimum quantity lubricating had a more important effect on Fc and Ra than dry machining. The optimal conditions for Fc and Ra were at 0.16 mm/rev feed rate, 125 m/min cutting speed at minimum quantity lubricating. Analysis of variance results demonstrated that the feed rate is the most influential independent variable on Fc (93.976 %) and Ra (89.352 %). Validation test results exhibited that the Taguchi method and regression analysis were highly achieved methods in the optimization of independent variables for dependent variables. Taguchi optimization technique and regression analysis obtained from Fc ([Formula: see text] = 0.972 and [Formula: see text] = 0.997) and Ra ([Formula: see text] = 0.985 and [Formula: see text] = 0.996) measurements match really well with the experimental data.

This study experimentally investigated the fracture behaviors of graphene nanoplatelet (GNP) carbon fiberreinforced polymer (CFRP) composites for varying amounts of GNP reinforcement, crack lengths and crack orientation angles. The specimens were subjected to tensile loading, and their fracture toughness values were determined with respect to maximum damage load and crack length. To compare the results obtained from experimental data, the fracture toughness values, strain distributions and crack tip opening displacements were determined by using a Digital Image Correlation (DIC) technique from images recorded during the tests. The results showed that increasing the amount of GNP increased the fracture toughness of specimens. On the other hand, increasing the crack orientation angle decreased the fracture toughness. Increasing the crack length increased the fracture toughness values for a crack orientation angle of 30 ° but decreased for a crack orientation angle of 90 °. Bu amaçla, sabit kesme parametrelerinde üç farklı ayna ve punta basıncı ile iş parçası yüzeyinden talaş kaldırılmıştır. Bu işlemin ardından titreşim genliği incelenmiş ve yüzey pürüzlülük değerleri ölçülmüştür. Yapılan ölçümlerin değerlendirilmesinde yüzey yanıt yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Bu istatiksel yöntem ile yüzey pürüzlülüğü değerlendirilmiş, deney setinin en etkin parametresinin ayna basıncı olduğu görülmüştür. Ayrıca model ile deney sonuçlarının tahmin yeteneği araştırılmıştır. Tüm yüzey pürüzlülük değerleri sırası ile sisteme girilmeden tahmin edilmiş ve deneysel sonuçların tahmin sonuçları ile ortalama %94,2 oranında benzeştiği görülmüştür. For this purpose, the chip was removed from the workpiece surface with three different chuck and tailstock pressure in constant cutting parameters. After this process, the vibration amplitude was examined and the surface roughness values were measured. Response Surface Method was used to evaluate the measurements. With this statistical method, surface roughness was evaluated and it was found that the most effective parameter of the experimental set was the chuck pressure. In addition, the prediction ability of experimental results was investigated with the model. All surface roughness values were estimated without entering the system, respectively, and it was seen that the experimental results were similar to the estimated results with an average of 94.2%. In the investigation of vibration amplitude, a model was created by the response surface method. However, the vibration amplitude could not be resolved by this method.

Activation functions are the most significant properties of artificial neural networks (ANN) because these functions are directly related with the ability of ANN in learning or modelling a system or a function. Furthermore, another reason for the significance of the fact that determination of optimal activation function in ANN is its relationship with success level. In this experimental study, the effects of different types of wire electrodes, cooling techniques and workpiece materials on surface roughness (Ra) and cutting speed (Vc) in wire electrical discharge machining (WEDM) were investigated by using trainable activation functions (AFt) and modelling them in ANNs. So far, a number of methods have been performed according to the data set in order to optimally predict Ra and Vc results. Among these methods, randomized ANN with AFt was found to be the best one for robust prediction according to RMSE values. While the value was 0.280 for Vc, it was 0.2104 for Ra. Optimum activation functions in Ra and Vc were found at first and third degree trainable functions, respectively.

Turning experiments were carried out with four different cutting speeds (180, 200, and 220 m/min), three different feed rates (0.1-0.2 and 0.3 mm/rev) and two different cutting tools (heat treated and untreated). While surface roughness and main cutting forces were selected as dependent variables, cutting speed, feed rate and heat treatment condition were determined as independent variables. In addition, the effects of independent variables on dependent variables were investigated by performing ANOVA analysis. For the experimental values, the R2 values obtained from the regression models were found to give 99.97% and 98.70% valid results.

Deney sonrası kompozit kare tüplerde oluşan deformasyon şekilleri yorumlandı. Dolgu malzemelerin yapısal ve dayanım özelliklerinin kompozit tüplerin bası davranışı üzerindeki etkileri araştırıldı. For produced the composite tubes, aluminum honeycomb and C25 class ready mixed concrete are used as filling materials. The purpose of the experimental study is to determine the parameter effects such as specimen size, fiber material type, orientation angle, filling material on the axial compression behavior of composite square tubes. After the experiment, deformation shapes in composite square tubes were interpreted. The effects of structural and strength properties of filler materials on compressive behavior of composite tubes were investigated. The results obtained for all parameters were compared within themselves and with each other. The filling material was seen to improve the compressive behavior of all three specimen sizes. As the specimen size increased, the compression force value also increased. The highest compression force occurred in the composite tube specimens based on carbon/epoxy filled with concrete, and the lowest value was in hollow glass/epoxy specimens. One of the most effective techniques that is used for energy wastage in buildings is heat insulation. It is possible due to this application to minimize the fuel quantity and accordingly tolerate toxic emissions by finding the optimum point that gives the maximum efficiency. This study was conducted for Jaipur province in Indian climate geography. Climatic characteristics of the region are Mid-Latitude Steppe and Desert Climate (Bsh). Energy need and heat losses in exterior wall were determined by accepting cooling degree day value as T > 24 °C. Optimum insulation thickness, payback period, annual return and annual return rate for XPS and EPS of two different insulating materials respectively are 0.0383–0.0731, 2.35–1.79, 10.95–12.92, 46.84–37.25.

The reactivity controlled compression ignition (RCCI) strategy using fuels with different reactivity’s has attracted attention due to its high thermal efficiency as well as very low NOx and PM emissions in comparison to conventional combustion. As previous studies have shown that the type and amount of low reactivity fuel have a significant contribution to the in-cylinder reactivity, thus RCCI combustion, in this study, Iso-Propanol-Butanol-Ethanol (IBE), which has comparable characteristics to n-butanol and ethanol, is employed as low reactivity fuel (LRF) in a RCCI engine fueled by petroleum based EN590 fuel and commercial biodiesel. The IBE mixture was in volumetric ratios of 3:6:1 as in the fermentation process of butanol, that is to say; 30% Iso-Propanol, 60% Butanol and 10% Ethanol. In each experimental condition, keeping the total energy of the fuel supplied to the engine in conventional combustion mode for each cycle as constant, the premixed ratio (Rp) in case RCCI combustion was applied as 0%, 15%, 30%, 45% and 60% (the amount of LRF in energy basis) over this energy amount. The effect of premixed ratio of IBE on combustion characteristics were investigated in a single-cylinder RCCI engine under different loads with using both petroleum diesel and biodiesel as high-reactivity fuels (HRF), respectively. According to experimental results, a higher in-cylinder pressure was measured by using diesel in both conventional and RCCI mode compared to the use of biodiesel. The surging energy requirements and greenhouse gas (GHG) emission have directed the research towards the utilization of renewable energy sources especially solar energy. Most of the energy part in domestic and commercial consumption is utilized for air heating and drying which can be improved significantly by utilizing solar air heating applications. The main drawback associated with the solar air heating system (SAHS) is the fluctuation in the availability of solar radiations which can be mitigated by a greater extent with the help of thermal storage. Phase change materials (PCMs) are generally utilized for latent heat storage. The present study reviews the various PCMs utilized in thermal storage with SAHS. Numerous types of PCM materials, their properties and applications in solar air heating system have been reviewed. Heat transfer characteristics enhancement techniques like encapsulation, extended surfaces and conductive particle dispersion have also been studied. The air conditioning demands in the future could be significantly mitigated by utilizing these materials.

This study investigated the effects of using nanofluids prepared with hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) nanoparticles on the thermal performance and pressure drop of a concentric tube heat exchanger. Experiments were carried out with water-hBN nanofluids for stable, dispersed, 0.01%, 0.1% and 1% volume concentrations, at different flow rates and Reynolds numbers under parallel and counter-flow conditions. When the experimental results were examined, the exergy loss was higher in the parallel-flow heat exchanger compared to the counter-flow heat exchanger. The highest exergy loss value was obtained for distilled water at the highest Reynolds number (Re = 8,700) for parallel flow operation at 170 W. The exergy loss of water at the highest Reynolds number (Re = 8,700) for parallel flow operation increased by 15.7%, 24.8% and 49.8% for hBN-water concentrations of 0.01%, 0.1% and 1%, respectively. Exergy loss of water at the highest Reynold number (Re = 8,700) for counter flow operation increased by 11.3%, 17.3% and 29.2% for hBN-water concentrations of 0.01%, 0.1% and 1%, respectively. In this study, the effects of the parameters of cutting speed, feed rate and minimum quantity lubrication (MQL) frequently employed in machining applications on main cutting force (Fc) and surface roughness (Ra) were investigated. For this purpose, analyses for Fc and Ra were performed utilizing Box-Behnken model. The efficiency of parameters and the changes in parameters on Fc and Ra were studied with the help of experiment set composed of 13 experiments by employing experimental parameters. Also, the effectiveness of design models was investigated by creating different design models. The high success rate modelling for Fc and Ra was realized with 99% success as a result of analyses conducted according to Box-Behnken and Stepwise, Backward and Forward methods of Box-Behnken. The most effective parameter among experimental parameters on Fc and Ra was found to be the feed rate according to Variance Analysis (ANOVA). It was demonstrated that the estimations on the created Box-Behnken model were quite successful on the data initially entered into the system; and that R2 values obtained for Fc and Ra were 0.999 and 0.996, respectively. It was determined that optimum parameters for the Fc were feed rate 0.25 mm/rev, cutting speed 125 m/min and cutting condition MQL2 ml/min, while they were feed rate 0.25 mm/rev, cutting speed 125 m/min and cutting condition MQL1 ml/min for Ra.

Sonuç olarak yumurta kabuğu takviyeli polimer esaslı kompozit numunelerin çekme ve eğilme davranışlarının ağırlıkça takviye oranına göre önemli şekilde değiştiği görülmüştür., In this study, mechanical behavior of eggshell reinforced composite specimens which is produced by casting into RTV 2 (Two Chemical Componented Room Temprature Vulcanizing) silicone molds based on epoxy was investigated. Test specimens were prepared by reinforcing 5%, 10%, 20%, 30% and 40% eggshell powder by weight to epoxy and pure epoxy resin according to ASTM-D638 and ASTM-D790 standards. After that these composite specimens were subjected to tensile and three-point bending tests. In the results of the tests, the best tensile strength was obtained by reinforcing 5% of the weight ratio of eggshell powder. But, increasing the weight ratio from 5% to 40% very significant reductions in tensile strength were observed. In the three-point bending tests for the bending behavior, the highest strength was obtained in 20% by weight reinforcement of eggshell powder. Adding more than 20% of the weight ratio of the reinforcing element, the bending strength of the composite specimens has been decreased. As a result, it has been observed that the tensile and bending behavior of eggshell reinforced composite specimens based on polymer have been significantly changed according to the reinforcement ratio by weight.

This study experimentally investigated the flexural fatigue behaviors of honeycomb sandwich composites subjected to low velocity impact damage by considering the type and thickness of the face sheet material, the cell size and the core height parameters. Carbon-fiber reinforced composite and the aluminum alloy was used as the face sheet material. First, the static strength of undamaged and damaged specimens was determined by three-point bending loads. Secondly, the fatigue behaviors of the damaged and undamaged specimens were determined. Low velocity impact damage decreased the flexural strength and fatigue lives but increased the damping ratio for all specimens. Maximum damping ratio values were observed on specimens with a aluminum face sheet.

Bu amaçla, sabit su-çimento oranında, normal agrega yerine hacimce %10, %20, %30, %40 ve %50 oranlarında pomza, genleştirilmiş perlit ve lastik agregaları kullanılarak çeşitli beton numuneleri hazırlanmıştır. 102 adet beton numunesi farklı bileşimlerde ve değişik malzemeler kullanılarak üretilmiştir. Tüm numunelerin mekanik testleri yapılmış, ısıl iletkenlik özellikleri sıcak disk yöntemi ile ASTM ve EN standartlarına uygun olarak belirlenmiştir. Üretilen numunelerden deneysel olarak elde edilen ısıl iletkenlik özelliği geliştirilen yapay sinir ağı çıkışlarıyla karşılaştırılmış ve sonuçlar incelenmiştir. In this study, an experimental investigation is performed to predict the thermal insulation properties of wall and roof structures of which the mechanical properties are known, by using back-propagation artificial neural network (ANNs) method. The produced samples are cement based and have relatively high insulation properties for energy efficient buildings. In this regard, 102 new samples and their compositions are produced and their mechanical and thermal properties are tested in accordance with ASTM and EN standards. Then, comparisons have been made between the determined thermal conductivity of the newly produced structures, which are obtained from experimental method and ANN method that uses mechanical properties as input parameters. From the test results, since the percentage errors in the thermal conductivity values between experimental data and neural network prediction vary from - 1.09% to 6.4%, It can be concluded that the prediction of the artificial neural network has proceed in the correct manner.

The estimation of the cooling load through the building envelope is an essential task in the selection of proper HVAC system components that influences the building’s performance. For this task, ASHRAE has presented several methods to calculate the building cooling load due to heat gain, such as the total equivalent temperature difference method (TETD), the cooling load temperature difference method (CLTD), and the radiant time series method (RTS). The present study aims to explore the accuracies of those calculation methods in terms of energy efficiency. In this regard, an analytical solution method utilizing Complex Finite Fourier Transform Technique (CFFT) was developed for the calculation of cooling load due to heat gain to compare the temperature differences obtained from the TETD and CLTD methods. Then, a computer program was prepared in MATLAB to perform the calculations based on an analytical methodology. Besides, the estimated CLTD and TETD values by the CFFT were compared with those values presented in the Handbook of the ASHRAE. The calculation results revealed there is a good agreement between the analytical and presented results in the ASHRAE Manual for the selected building envelopes.
