High quality, safe, and reliable batteries are essential for widespread adoption of electric vehicles. Current Li-ion battery pack manufacturing processes rely on manual inspections to ensure electric vehicle battery quality. Such manual quality control is prone to errors, increasing the chances of defective batteries. This is likely to increase safety and reliability concerns in the public imagination, slowing down the adoption of electric vehicles. Furthermore, manual inspection is time-consuming and likely to become a bottleneck in scaling up electric vehicle battery production. A potential solution to address this need for fast and accurate inspection of batteries is the use of machine vision and robotics. In this study, we use digital twin design and simulation to develop a battery module inspection system that uses cobots and machine vision to inspect electric vehicle batteries for defects. Our proposed system can automate visual quality checks that are currently being done by human operators. The proposed cobotic system has been simulated and validated for a variety of battery defects to achieve fast and reliable detection. MXene is investigated as an electrode material for different energy storage systems due to layered structures and metal-like electrical conductivity. Experimental results show MXenes possess excellent cycling performance as anode materials, especially at large current densities. However, the reversible capacity is relatively low, which is a significant barrier to meeting the demands of industrial applications. This work synthesizes N-doped graphene-like carbon (NGC) intercalated Ti3C2Tx (NGC-Ti3C2Tx) van der Waals heterostructure by an in situ method. The as-prepared NGC-Ti3C2Tx van der Waals heterostructure is employed as sodium-ion and lithium-ion battery electrodes. For sodium-ion batteries, a reversible specific capacity of 305 mAh g-1 is achieved at a specific current of 20 mA g-1, 2.3 times higher than that of Ti3C2Tx. For lithium-ion batteries, a reversible capacity of 400 mAh g-1 at a specific current of 20 mA g-1 is 1.5 times higher than that of Ti3C2Tx. Both sodium-ion and lithium-ion batteries made from NGC-Ti3C2Tx shows high cycling stability. The theoretical calculations also verify the remarkable improvement in battery capacity within the NGC-Ti3C2O2 system, attributed to the additional adsorption of working ions at the edge states of NGC. This work offers an innovative way to synthesize a new van der Waals heterostructure and provides a new route to improve the electrochemical performance significantly.

As electric vehicle adoption accelerates and demand increases, the inability to produce batteries in sufficient quantities has emerged as a critical bottleneck in the electric vehicle supply chain. Given the impending climate change crisis, resolving this bottleneck is imperative to accelerate the transition to a zero-emission electric mobility future. One potential solution is the use of robotics for fast and cost-effective assembly of batteries at scale. This study proposes a three-stage digital twin design and analysis method to develop robotic workcells for fast and cost-effective assembly of electric vehicle battery modules. Using digital twin design and simulation, robotic assembly line configurations have been developed for battery module production at different scales. Digital twin analytics was used to evaluate and optimise the proposed robotic battery assembly system for speed and cost. Industrial automation experts were consulted to further improve robotic work cell layouts to minimise investment in robots. Because digital twins of robotic workcells have been used, the configurations of the battery assembly line, as designed and validated, are ready for immediate implementation. For practitioners, this study offers heuristic methods to determine the appropriate assembly line configuration, the required number of robots and humans, for a desired production volume. Non-aqueous redox flow batteries have shown promise for applications in grid energy storage. Increasing the efficiency of these batteries by developing the electrolyte chemistries is needed. Herein, we investigate the correlation between solvent properties and the electrochemical parameters of vanadium acetylacetonate V(acac)3. Using cyclic voltammetry (CV) and rotating disk electrode experiments (RDE), we show that trends in the performance of the V(acac)3 kinetics are directly related to solvent properties. We found strong relationships between the solvents polarity, viscosity, and donor number with the electrochemical behavior of V(acac)3 in terms of the electrochemical working widow, electron kinetics and stability towards cycling. Based on these finding, we also demonstrate how solvent selection can be improved with limited a priori knowledge.

We report the dielectric constant of 1 M LiPF6 in EC:EMC 3:7 w/w (ethylene carbonate/ethyl methyl carbonate) in addition to neat EC:EMC 3:7 w/w. Using three Debye relaxations, the static permittivity value, or dielectric constant, is extrapolated to 18.5, which is compared to 18.7 for the neat solvent mixture. The EC solvent is found to strongly coordinate with the Li+ cations of the salt, which results in a loss of dielectric contribution to the electrolyte. However, the small amplitude and large uncertainty in relaxation frequency for EMC cloud definitive identification of the Li+ solvation shell. Importantly, the loss of the free EC permittivity contribution due to Li+ solvation is almost completely balanced by the positive contribution of the associated LiPF6 salt, demonstrating that a significant quantity of dipolar ion pairs exists in 1 M LiPF6 in EC:EMC 3:7.

In this work, a porous Co 3 O 4 anode material with capsule–shaped morphology is prepared by a simple solvothermal method and subsequent heat treatment process in air. The as–synthesized CoCO 3 precursor and Co 3 O 4 sample are systematically studied and analyzed by a series of testing technologies, such as XRD, FTIR, FESEM, (HR)TEM, TGA, XPS and N 2 adsorption/desorption measurement. As negative materials in Li–ion batteries, the Co 3 O 4 active material exhibits high charge/discharge specific capacity, good rate performance and satisfactory cycle stability. The excellent electrochemical properties are inevitably related to the structural characteristics of the electrode material itself, including regular morphology, rich pore structure, large specific surface area, high crystallinity, nanoscale particle size, etc. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Electric vehicles need continuous monitoring of the energy supply all the time to provide the user with accurate information about the available energy. However, an increase in the power consumed by the monitoring system may cause a significant decrease in the vehicle’s autonomy. This letter presents a monitoring and estimation system for an electric car with a hybrid energy supply based on supercapacitors and batteries based on an embedded system capable of monitoring the general current, the current from the battery system, the voltage in the battery system, the voltage in the supercapacitor system, estimating the value of the state of charge from batteries, and showing the measurements to the user with an OLED display. In this letter, three battery-powered, custom Internet of Things (IoT) sensor nodes for the agribusiness, are presented: first, a Sigfox-based temperature-humidity index (THI) sensor to monitor the impact of heat stress in livestock, then a LoRaWAN version of an estrus detection collar for dairy farms, and finally a NB-IoT low-power A-GPS geolocation device for animals. Detailed power consumption measurements are presented and compared to highlight the benefits of each low-power wide-area network technology for the industry. The measured energy to transmit a single 10Byte payload packet was 90, 20, and 90 mJ for Sigfox, LoRa, and NB-IoT, respectively. With an adequate power management strategy, the nodes could operate up to 10 years in the case of the THI and estrus detector, and >1 yr in the case of the GPS tracker, powered by a single 1900 mA $\cdot \mathrm {h}~\mathrm {LiSOCl}_{2}$ battery. The thermal runaway issue represents a long‐standing obstacle that retards large‐scale applications of lithium metal batteries. Various approaches to inhibit thermal runaway suffer from some intrinsic drawbacks, either being irreversible or delayed thermal protection. Herein, this work has explored thermo‐responsive lower critical solution temperature (LCST) ionic liquid‐based electrolytes, which provides reversible overheating protection for batteries with warning and shut‐down stages, well corresponding to an initial stage of thermal runaway process. The batteries could function stably below 70 °C as a working mode, while demonstrating a warning mode above 80 °C with a noticeable reduction in specific capacitance to delay temperature increase of batteries. In terms of 110 °C as a critically dangerous temperature, a shut‐down mode is designed to minimize the thermal energy releasing as the batteries are barely chargeable and dischargeable. Dynamically growing polymeric particles above LCST contributed to such an intelligent and mild control on specific capacitance. Larger size will occupy larger surfaces of electrodes and close more pores of separators, enabling a gradual suppressing of Li+ transfer and reactions. The present work demonstrated a scientific design of thermoresponsive LCST electrolytes with a superiorly precise and intelligent control of electrochemical performances to achieve self‐adapted overheating protections. Fiber batteries are essential for the realization of high‐performance wearable and textile electronics with the desirable features of conventional textiles, including breathability, stretchability, and washability. However, the development of fiber batteries is limited by scalability and performance since most reported fabrication techniques are not compatible with standard battery manufacturing. This work presents a novel method for the scalable fabrication of fiber batteries with a stacked design analogous to that of conventional pouch cells using layer lamination and laser machining. To accomplish this, several poly(vinylidene fluoride‐co‐hexafluoropropylene) (PVDF‐HFP) separators are developed, enabling lamination between conventional battery electrodes using a heated rolling press. The laminated strips are subsequently laser cut to form fibers with widths as narrow as 650–700 µm. These prototypes are successfully cycled in pouch cells and capillary tubes, delivering very high linear energies up to 0.61 mWh cm−1. Custom equipment is designed to demonstrate scalable fiber battery fabrication processing in a roll‐to‐roll fashion. This work marks a paradigm shift in fiber battery research by demonstrating substantial benefits over all previous approaches including optimal active material utilization, low inactive material content, scalability, and compatibility with equipment already used widely in the battery industry. Poly(ionic liquid)s combine the unique properties of ionic liquids (ILs) within ionic polymers holding significant promise for energy storage applications. It is reported here the synthesis and characterization of a new family of poly(ionic liquid)s synthesized from cationic piperazinium ionic liquid monomers. The cationic poly(acrylamide piperazinium) in combination with sulfonamide anions like bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl) imide (TFSI) and bis(fluorosulfonyl) imide (FSI) are characterized as solid polymer electrolytes. The polymer electrolytes in combination with pyrrolidonium ILs and LiFSI show high ionic conductivity, 5×10−3 S cm−1 at 100 °C. Piperazinium polymer electrolytes show excellent compatibility with lithium metal reversible plating and stripping at high current density and low temperature 40 °C. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Improving composite cathode function is key to the success of the solid‐state battery. Maximizing attainable cathode capacity and retention requires integrating suitable polymeric binders that retain a sufficiently high ionic conductivity and long‐term chemo‐mechanical stability of the cathode active material‐solid‐electrolyte‐carbon mixture. Herein, we report block copolymer networks composed of lithium borate polycarbonates and poly(ethylene oxide) that improved the capacity (200 mAh g−1 at 1.75 mA cm−2) and capacity retention (94 % over 300 cycles) of all‐solid‐state composite cathodes with nickel‐rich LiNi0.8Co0.1Mn0.1O2 cathode active material, Li6PS5Cl solid electrolyte, and carbon. Tetrahedral B(OR)2(OH)2− anions immobilized on the polycarbonate segments provide hydrogen‐bonding chain crosslinking and selective Li‐counterion conductivity, parameterized by Li‐ion transference numbers close to unity (tLi+~0.94). With 90 wt % polycarbonate content and a flexible low glass transition temperature backbone, the single‐ion conductors achieved high Li‐ion conductivities of 0.2 mS cm−1 at 30 °C. The work should inform future binder design for improving the processability of cathode composites towards commercializing solid‐state batteries, and allow use in other cell configurations, such as lithium‐sulphur cathode designs. Dual‐ion batteries (DIBs) present great application potential in low‐temperature energy storage scenarios due to their unique dual‐ion working mechanism. However, at low temperatures, the insufficient electrochemical oxidation stability of electrolytes and depressed interfacial compatibility impair the DIB performance. Here, we design a variant‐localized high‐concentration solvation structure for universal low‐temperature electrolytes (ν‐LHCE) without the phase separation via introducing an extremely weak‐solvating solvent with low energy levels. The unique solvation structure gives the ν‐LHCE enhanced electrochemical oxidation stability. Meanwhile, the extremely weak‐solvating solvent can competitively participate in the Li+‐solvated coordination, which improves the Li+ transfer kinetics and boosts the formation of robust interphases. Thus, the ν‐LHCE electrolyte not only has a good high‐voltage stability of >5.5 V and proper Li+ transference number of 0.51 but also shows high ionic conductivities of 1 mS/cm at low temperatures. Consequently, the ν‐LHCE electrolyte enables different types of batteries to achieve excellent long‐term cycling stability and good rate capability at both room and low temperatures. Especially, the capacity retentions of the DIB are 77.7 % and 51.6 %, at −40 °C and −60 °C, respectively, indicating great potential for low‐temperature energy storage applications, such as polar exploration, emergency communication equipment, and energy storage station in cold regions. The practical usage of Na metal anode is severely prohibited by the instability of the natively formed solid electrolyte interface (SEI) layer and the uncontrollable Na dendrite growth, inducing short cycle life and serious safety concerns. Herein, phosphorylated covalent organic frameworks (P‐COF) is first synthesized and rationally used to construct the robust artificial interface layer for Na metal stabilization. The modified Na metal anode demonstrates high rate performance (5 mA cm−2) and ultralong cycling lifespan (1800 h) with dendrite‐free Na deposition in carbonate‐based electrolyte. And the assembled Na|Na3V2(PO4)3 (NVP) cell also reveals extraordinarily stable cycling at 5 C for 4000 cycles with a quite low decay rate of 0.002% per cycle. Moreover, the Na|NVP full cell with high areal capacity (2.0 mAh cm−2) and thin Na metal (30 µm) still demonstrates prolonged cycling over 500 cycles even under the harsh condition of a low negative‐to‐positive‐capacity (N/P) ratio of 2:3. Furthermore, the Na|NVP pouch cell with an ultrathick cathode (≈17 mg cm−2) also manifests significantly prolonged cycling performance. Energy storage devices play a crucial role in various applications, such as powering electronics, power backup for homes and businesses, and support for the integration of renewable energy sources into electrical grid applications. Electrode materials for energy storage devices are preferred to have a flexible nature, conductive, better capacity, and low‐toxicity. Using Gallium based liquid metal alloys, such as Eutectic Gallium‐Indium (EGaIn), Eutectic Gallium‐Tin (EGaSn), and Eutectic Gallium‐Indium‐Tin (EGaInSn), as electrode materials play very important role in energy storage devices. These liquid metals have some interesting properties with a self‐healing nature, high mechanical stability, compatibility with various materials, fluidity, low young's modulus, high electrical and thermal conductivity. Those properties have made it suitable to be used in various energy storage devices. Lithium (Li)-ion batteries have stimulated the societal transformation to clean energy systems. This carry-on electricity is revolutionizing how society communicates, functions, and evolves efficiently by enabling mobile electronics, zero-emission electric vehicles, and stationary energy storage. In preparation for the sustainable energy future, however, there are growing concerns about depleting critical elements used in the Li technology (e.g., lithium, cobalt, and nickel), especially for large-scale applications that will accelerate the rate of elemental consumption. Various non-Li-based rechargeable batteries composed of earth-abundant elements, such as sodium, potassium, magnesium, and calcium, have been proposed and explored as alternative systems to promote sustainable development of energy storage. In this perspective, we discuss challenges in Li-ion batteries in the sustainability aspect and provide our opinions on the potential applications of non-Li-based batteries. Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) are two‐dimensional, crystalline porous framework materials with numerous scopes for tunability, such as porosity, functionality, stability and aspect ratio (thickness to length ratio). The manipulation of π‐stacking in COFs results in truly 2D materials, namely covalent organic nanosheets (CONs), adds advantages in many applications. In this Minireview, we have discussed both top‐down (COFs→CONs) and bottom‐up (molecules→CONs) approaches with precise information on thickness and lateral growth. We have showcased the research progress on CONs in a few selected applications, such as batteries, catalysis, sensing and biomedical applications. This Minireview specifically highlights the reports where the authors compare the performance of CONs with COFs by demonstrating the impact of the thickness and lateral growth of the nanosheets. We have also provided the possible scope of exploration of CONs research in terms of inter‐dimensional conversion, such as graphene to carbon nanotube and future technologies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The intricate relationship between local atomic arrangements and electronic states significantly influences the electrochemical properties of Li‐ion battery cathode materials. Despite decades of investigation, a consensus regarding the local atomic and electronic structure of LiNiO2 remains elusive. This ambiguity stems from the potential distortion of Ni sites, either via Jahn‐Teller (JT) distortion or bond disproportionation (BD), complicating the understanding of the charge compensation mechanism involving Ni and O. This study compares the structures of LiNiO2 and NaNiO2, a JT system, using an innovative approach that integrates bulk spectroscopy techniques on standardized interoperable samples for enhanced reliability. While X‐r and theoretical calculations fail to differentiate between the proposed scenarios, Raman spectroscopy highlights local structural distinctions between monoclinic NaNiO2 and rhombohedral LiNiO2. HAXPES confirms various formal oxidation states for Ni, supported by RIXS data indicating 3d8 states, emphasizing negative charge transfer from Ni and some bond disproportionation in LiNiO2. Regarding charge compensation, XRS and RIXS suggest oxygen hole involvement in redox activity, whereas Raman spectroscopy does not detect molecular oxygen. This comprehensive spectroscopic analysis highlights the importance of correlative characterization workflows in elucidating complex structural‐electrochemical relationships. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Although the electrochemical principle and cell configuration of Li–ion batteries (LIBs) can achieve superior capacities and energy densities, they are unlikely to address the performance, cost, and scalability issues in electric transportation and stretchable electronic applications required for energy storage. There are increasing requirements for safety, cost reduction, energy density, and a high demand for natural resources for Li. Accordingly, research on various cell technologies, such as “Zn-, Na-, and K-batteries beyond Li-batteries,” has attracted more attention. Among these, the most advanced cell technology is the Zn battery, which has the advantages of low cost, safety, environmental efficiency, and energy density. The previously developed Zn batteries (Zn–C, Zn–Ag(O2), and Zn–air batteries) that have contributed to the development of Zn batteries are summarized, and the research directions and prospects of these batteries are presented. A highly flexible, tunable morphology membrane with excellent thermal stability and ionic conductivity can endow lithium metal batteries with high power density and reduced dendrite growth. Herein, a porous Polyurethane (PU) membrane with an adjustable morphology was prepared by a simple nonsolvent–induced phase separation technique. The precise control of the final morphology of PU membranes can be achieved through appropriate selection of a nonsolvent, resulting a range of pore structures that vary from finger–like voids to sponge–like pores. The implementation of combinatorial DFT and experimental analysis has revealed that spongy PU porous membranes, especially PU−EtOH, show superior electrolyte wettability (472%), high porosity (75%), good mechanical flexibility, robust thermal dimensional stability (above 170 °C), and elevated ionic conductivity (1.38 mS cm−1) in comparison to the polypropylene (PP) separator. The use of PU−EtOH in Li//Li symmetric cell results in a prolonged lifespan of 800 h, surpasing the longevity of PU or PP cells. Moreover, when subjected to a high rate of 5 C, the LiFePO4/Li half‐cell with a PU−EtOH porous membrane displayed better cycling performance (115.4 mAh g−1) compared to the PP separator (104.4 mAh g−1). Solid-state electrolyte structures using sodium polyaluminate ceramics, have been fabricated for the first time using direct ink writing; a material extrusion-based additive manufacturing process. A series of test samples were prepared using a high solids loading (80 wt%; 51.2 vol%) ceramic paste formulations with suitable rheological characteristics for 3D printing. Following optimum densification via conventional sintering at 1600 °C for 30 min, the additively manufactured electrolyte test samples exhibited an ionic conductivity of σ = 0.14 ± 0.019 S·cm−1 at 300 °C and density of ρ = 3.1 ± 0.02 g·cm−3 (relative density of 95%). These results suggest that direct ink writing of sodium polyaluminates is a promising approach for electrolyte manufacture. Ice‐templating, a versatile manufacturing process, is widely utilized to create porous materials by freezing aqueous solutions. Notably, this technique is material independent, allowing for the fabrication of microstructured bulk or sheet materials of ceramic, glass, metal, polymer, and composite materials. Herein, the influence of freeze‐cast zinc electrodes on zinc–air batteries is investigated. The analysis includes the charge and discharge cycling behavior of pure powder, gel matrix, and sintered freeze‐cast zinc electrodes, complemented by the study of the distribution of relaxation times. Remarkably, the best cycling performance is achieved with the combination of a gel electrolyte and a freeze‐cast zinc electrode, highlighting the potential significance of this microstructure–electrolyte pairing for enhancing the performance of zinc–air batteries. Electrical energy has become a basic necessity today. As the population increases, the amount of electricity demand is also increasing. Therefore, many innovations are needed to meet these needs. One of the innovations in energy harvesting systems is the use of piezoelectricity. This research aims to create a piezoelectric-based running track prototype to produce environmentally friendly electrical energy. The arrangement of piezoelectric sensors used in this research is a parallel circuit. The research method used is the Research and Development method. The test results on the physical activities of walking, running, and jumping show that the prototype system that has been made has worked well and produces a fairly stable electric voltage even though it is still in a small amount. the difference in activity and body weight that presses the prototype produces different electric voltages. For walking activity, the prototype is able to produce a maximum voltage output of 0.83V, running activity has a maximum output of 5.83V and the maximum voltage output of jumping activity is 7.88V. The use of energy is done by storing the energy obtained from the piezoelectric in the battery, which can later be monitored directly by the voltage sensor, bluetooth module, HC-05, and RTC module the data will be sent to the cell phone so that the piezoelectric output voltage can be recorded and monitored. The concept of polyrotaxane comes from the rotaxane structure in the supramolecular field. It is a mechanically interlocked supramolecular assembly composed of linear polymer chains and cyclic molecules. Over recent decades, the synthesis and application of polyrotaxanes have seen remarkable growth. Particularly, cyclodextrin‐based polyrotaxanes have been extensively reported due to the low‐price raw materials, good biocompatibility, and ease of modification. Hence, it is also one of the most promising mechanically interlocking supramolecules for wide industrialization in the future. Polyrotaxanes are widely introduced into materials such as elastomers, hydrogels, and engineering polymers to improve their mechanical properties or impart functionality to the materials. In these materials, polyrotaxane acts as a slidable cross‐linker to dissipate energy through sliding or assist in dispersing stress concentration in the cross‐linked network, thereby enhancing the toughness of the materials. Further, the unique sliding‐ring effect of cyclodextrin‐based polyrotaxanes has pioneered advancements in stretchable electronics and energy storage materials. This includes their innovative use in stretchable conductive composite and binders for anodes, addressing critical challenges in these fields. Concerns over fossil fuel depletion, fluctuating fuel prices, and CO2 emissions have accelerated the development of electric vehicle (EV) technologies. This article reviews advancements in EV fast charging technology and explores the development of battery-assisted DC fast charging stations to address the limitations of traditional chargers. Our proposed approach integrates battery storage, allowing chargers to operate independently of the electric grid by storing electrical energy during off-peak hours and releasing it during peak times. This reduces dependence on grid power and enhances grid stability. Moreover, the transformer-less, modular design of the proposed solution offers greater flexibility, scalability, and reduced installation costs. Additionally, the use of smart energy management systems, incorporating artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques to dynamically adjust charging rates, will be discussed to optimize efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Electrolytes have recently regained significant attention in rechargeable batteries due to the discovery that the electrolyte microstructures play a determinant role in battery performance. By adjusting the compositions of electrolytes to cater to various functionalities, such as high‐voltage, fast‐charging, wide‐temperature operation, and non‐flammable features, a diverse range of batteries can be developed to adapt to different environmental working conditions. Nevertheless, elucidating the electrolyte microstructures and understanding the associated electrode interfacial behaviors remain challenging. These challenges arise from the interdisciplinary nature of the research, encompassing subjects such as solution chemistry, interface chemistry, electrochemistry, and organic chemistry. This topic holds particular significance because solution chemistry and solution‐solid interface chemistry are ubiquitous in daily lives, yet their behaviors remain unclear due to their inherent complexity, dynamic nature, and rapid variability. In this context, electrolyte and electrolyte‐electrode interface research are used as an illustrative example and summarize their progress from six key perspectives of graphic, quantitation, visualization, standardization, digitization, and intelligence. It is aimed to provide a multi‐faceted understanding of electrolyte microstructures and their behaviors on the electrode interface. This comprehensive approach enables the effective design of electrolytes and enhances the accuracy of predicting battery performance, servicing the development of solution and solution‐solid interface. Graphite is a versatile material used in various fields, particularly in the power source manufacturing industry. Nowadays, graphite holds a unique position in materials for anode electrodes in lithium-ion batteries. With a carbon content of over 99% being a requirement for graphite to serve as an electrode material, the graphite refinement process plays a pivotal role in the research and development of anode materials for lithium-ion batteries. This study used three different processes to purify spherical graphite through wet chemical methods. The spherical graphite after the purification processes was analysed for carbon content by using energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX) spectroscopy and was evaluated for structural and morphological characteristics through X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) analyses. The analyses results indicate that the three-step process via H2SO4–NaOH–HCl cleaning can elevate the carbon content from 90% to above 99.9% while still maintaining the graphite structure and spherical morphology, thus enhancing the surface area of the material for anode application. Furthermore, the spherical graphite was studied for electrochemical properties when used as an anode for Li-ion batteries using cyclic voltammetry (CV) and galvanostatic charge–discharge (GCD) measurements. The results demonstrated that the purification process significantly improves the material's capacity with a specific capacity of 350 mAh/g compared to the 280 mAh/g capacity of the anode made of spherical graphite without purification. BACKGROUND: Batteries play a vital role in meeting global energy needs. When their life cycle concludes, improperly discarded spent batteries can pose environmental risks primarily due to their metal content. In this sense, the recycling of metals contained in spent batteries could mean a huge advantage if they are extracted and purified using environmentally friendly processes. RESULTS: In this study, the recovery of potassium (K), zinc (Zn) and manganese (Mn) from alkaline batteries was performed using a hydrometallurgical process consisting of neutral, acid and acid reductive leaching steps at room temperature and atmospheric pressure to extract K, Zn and Mn. In the neutral leaching step, 76.8 ± 3.4 (wt. %) of the K present in the spent batteries was extracted. Thus, in the acid leaching step, 90.9 ± 0.1 (wt. %) of the initial Zn and 36.7 ± 0.4 (wt. %) of the initial Mn was extracted using sulfuric acid (H2SO4) 2 M. In a subsequent acid reductive leaching step using H2SO4 2 M and oxygen peroxide (H2O2) 0.8 M as reducing agent, 8.7 ± 0.1 (wt. %) of the initial Zn and up to 49.4 ± 0.2 (wt. %) of the initial Mn were extracted. CONCLUSION: The three‐unit process led to an overall extraction of 99.6 ± 0.3 (wt. %) of Zn and 86.1 ± 0.1 (wt. %) of Mn. Regarding the latter step, the extraction was not 100% because Mn complexes which are nearly insoluble were generated. This shows that extraction of valuable minerals from industrial residues is possible by hydrometallurgical processes. © 2024 The Authors. The review provides an overview of the latest innovations, trends, and challenges in the field of 3D‐printed metal and metal‐ion batteries. It focuses on the materials used in the printing of batteries, including electrodes, electrolytes, and other electroactive components. Compared to other high‐quality reviews on the topic, this review provides a broader selection of materials that are expected to gain attention in the next few years, such as redox‐active polymers and metal‐organic frameworks. This work gives an overview and insight into the latest trends in printing techniques as well as a statistical review of their uses and strengths. We have also gathered the latest works done for each of the material types, and we have taken the opportunity to put them in context and use them to exemplify in which direction is the field going. The review concludes with a critical view of the challenges ahead and a discussion of the direction that the field is taking as well as the external factors that might help to define its future. With a continually evolving society and increasing environmental energy concerns, green biomass materials are attracting considerable attention in the field of energy storage owing to their low cost, environmental friendliness, and excellent storage capacity. Biomass materials prepared by various methods have been used as electrodes in secondary batteries. In this review, we discuss the application scope of different types of biomass and biomass‐derived materials in zinc‐air, lithium‐ion, and lithium‐sulfur batteries. The application of biomass and biomass‐derived materials in batteries is gaining increasing attention and is expected to drive many exciting innovations in the field of sustainable energy storage technologies. The calendering process of pole piece is a key step affecting the performance of the power battery. In the calendaring process, rubber roller materials will produce hysteresis heat, resulting in rolling resistance, which will lead to energy loss. The thermo-mechanical coupling model for calendering rubber roller has been established and the effects of materials, calendering speeds, and roller structure shape on the viscoelastic temperature rise of rubber roller were analyzed. Solution-polymerized styrene-butadiene rubber (SSBR) materials with different fillers have the greatest impact on temperature rise, followed by the roller shape, and calendering speed is smaller. The loss modulus of SSBR filled with white carbon black studied was smaller, and the temperature rise at high speed was 14.5[degrees]C higher than that at low speed. The optimized roller shape has a temperature rise of 10.4[degrees]C lower than the original shape. The research results could provide reference for the calendering rubber roller design of pole piece and similar processing.
