Abstract

The exact nature of the lowest $K^\pi =2_\gamma ^+$ rotational bands in all deformed nuclei remains obscure. Traditionally they are assumed to be collective vibrations of the nuclear shape in the $\gamma$ degree of freedom perpendicular to the nuclear symmetry axis. Very few such $\gamma$-bands have been traced past the usual back-bending rotational alignments of high-j nucleons. We have investigated the structure of positive-parity bands in the N=90 nucleus 156Dy, using the 148Nd(12C,4n)156Dy reaction at 65 MeV, observing the resulting ${\gamma}$-ray transitions with the Gammasphere array. The even- and odd-spin members of the $K^\pi =2_\gamma^+$ $\gamma$-band are observed to 32+ and 31+ respectively. This rotational band faithfully tracks the ground-state configuration to the highest spins. The members of a possible $\gamma$-vibration built on the aligned yrast S-band are observed to spins 28+ and 27+. An even-spin positive-parity band, observed to spin 24+, is a candidate for an aligned S-band built on the seniority-zero configuration of the $0_2^+$ state at 676 keV. The crossing of this band with the $0_2^+$ band is at $\hbar\omega$= 0.28(1) MeV and is consistent with the configuration of the $0_2^+$ band not producing any blocking of the monopole pairing., Comment: Published in Physics Review C

Abstract

Rotational structures have been measured using the Jurogam II and GAMMASPHERE arrays at low spin following the 155Gd({\alpha},2n)157Dy and 148Nd(12C, 5n)155Dy reactions at 25 and 65 MeV, respectively. We report high-K bands, which are conjectured to be the first candidates of a K{\pi}= 2+ {\gamma} vibrational band, built on the [505]11/2- neutron orbital, in both odd-A 155, 157Dy isotopes. The coupling of the first excited K=0+ states or the so-called \b{eta} vibrational bands at 661 and 676 keV in 154Dy and 156Dy to the [505]11/2- orbital, to produce a K{\pi}=11/2- band, was not observed in both 155Dy and 157Dy, respectively. The implication of these findings on the interpretation of the first excited 0+ states in the core nuclei 154Dy and 156Dy are also discussed., Comment: Published in Physical Rev C

Abstract

Neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) arising from tailgut cysts are a rare but increasingly reported entity with gene expression profiles that may be indicative of the gastrointestinal cell of origin. We present a case report describing the unique pathological and genomic characteristics of a tailgut cyst NET that metastasized to liver. The histologic and immunohistochemical findings were consistent with a well-differentiated NET. Genomic testing indicates a germline frameshift in BRCA1 and a few somatic mutations of unknown significance. Transcriptomic analysis suggests an enteroendocrine L cell in the tailgut as a putative cell of origin. Genomic profiling of a rare NET and metastasis provides insight into its origin, development, and potential therapeutic options.

Abstract

Abstract Dostarlimab (JEMPERLI) is a humanized anti-programmed death 1 (PD-1) immunoglobulin (Ig)G4-kappa monoclonal antibody that binds to the PD-1 receptor and competitively inhibits binding of its ligands, PD-L1 and PD-L2. Dostarlimab was recently approved in the USA and the European Union. Because dostarlimab is a macromolecular therapeutic, it has the potential to elicit the formation of anti-drug antibodies, which have the capability to impact the drug’s safety and efficacy and to alter pharmacokinetics. The immunogenic potential of dostarlimab remains unknown, and it was therefore necessary to develop analytical assays to detect and characterize anti-drug antibodies as a key component in the mitigation of immunogenicity risk. Here, we present the development and optimization of a 3-tiered electrochemiluminescense bridging assay for the investigation of dostarlimab clinical immunogenicity. In this work, the full details of the method, statistical data analysis and cut point determinations, assay performance during clinical sample analysis, and associated regulatory expectations are discussed. The full validation of this 3-tier anti-drug antibody assay enabled dostarlimab immunogenicity evaluation in clinical studies. Trial registration: Clinicaltrials.gov, NCT02715284 . Abstract

A multi-step Coulomb excitation measurement with the GRETINA and CHICO2 detector arrays was carried out with a 430-MeV beam of the neutron-rich 110Ru (t1/2=12 s) isotope produced at the CARIBU facility. This represents the first successful measurement following the post-acceleration of an unstable isotope of a refractory element. The reduced transition probabilities obtained for levels near the ground state provide strong evidence for a triaxial shape; a conclusion confirmed by comparisons with the results of beyond-mean-field and triaxial rotor model calculations.

Abstract

A segmented Si-telescope and HPGe array, STARS-LIBERACE, was used to study the 156Gd(p, tγ)154Gd direct reaction by particle- γ coincidence spectroscopy. New cross sections with a 25MeV proton beam are reported and compared to previous (p,t) and (t,p) studies. Furthermore, additional evidence for coexisting Kπ=01+,21+ and 02+, 22+ configurations at N = 90 is presented. Direct and indirect population patterns of the low-lying states are also explored. Review of the new and existing evidence favors an interpretation based on a configuration-dependent pairing interaction. The weakening of monopole pairing strength and an increase in quadrupole pairing strength could bring 2p-2h 0 + states below 2 Δ. This may account for a large number of the low-lying 0 + states observed in two-nucleon transfer reactions. A hypothesis for the origin of the 02+ and 03+ states is provided.

Abstract

The {\gamma}-ray strength function and level density in the quasi-continuum of 151,153Sm have been measured using BGO shielded Ge clover detectors of the STARLiTeR system. The Compton shields allow for an extraction of the {\gamma} strength down to unprecedentedly low {\gamma} energies of about 500 keV. For the first time an enhanced low- energy {\gamma}-ray strength has been observed in the rare-earth region. In addition, for the first time both the upbend and the well known scissors resonance have been observed simultaneously for the same nucleus. Hauser-Feshbach calculations show that this strength enhancement at low {\gamma} energies could have an impact of 2-3 orders of magnitude on the (n,{\gamma}) reaction rates for the r-process nucleosynthesis.

Abstract

Background Breast cancer brain metastasis is a rising occurrence, necessitating a better understanding of the mechanisms involved for effective management. Breast cancer brain metastases diverge notably from the primary tumor, with gains in kinase and concomitant losses of steroid signaling observed. In this study, we explored the role of the kinase receptor RET in promoting breast cancer brain metastases and provide a rationale for targeting this receptor. Methods RET expression was characterized in a cohort of patients with primary and brain metastatic tumors. RET functionality was assessed using pharmacological inhibition and gene silencing in patient-derived brain metastatic tumor explants and in vivo models, organoid models, and brain organotypic cultures. RNA sequencing was used to uncover novel brain metastatic relevant RET mechanisms of action. Results A statistically significant enrichment of RET in brain metastases was observed in estrogen receptor–positive breast cancer, where it played a role in promoting cancer cell adhesion, survival, and outgrowth in the brain. In vivo , RET overexpression enhanced brain metastatic competency in patient-derived models. At a mechanistic level, RET overexpression was found to enhance the activation of gene programs involved in cell adhesion, requiring EGFR cooperation to deliver a pro–brain metastatic phenotype. Conclusion Our results illustrate, for the first time, the role of RET in regulating colonization and outgrowth of breast cancer brain metastasis and provide data to support the use of RET inhibitors in the management strategy for patients with breast cancer brain metastases. Abstract

Pituitary adenomas are the commonest sellar tumours. Pituitary metastases are very rare, with the most common primaries being breast and lung cancers. We report the case of an 83-year-old man with a history of breast carcinoma who presented with recent-onset headaches and progressive deterioration of visual acuity. MRI brain showed a large sellar and suprasellar mass compressing the optic chiasm and involving the pituitary stalk. Transsphenoidal debulking resulted in symptomatic relief and visual recovery. Specimen examination revealed a combination of a gonadotroph pituitary adenoma that was infiltrated by metastatic breast carcinoma. He had no symptoms of diabetes insipidus. He was subsequently treated with pituitary radiotherapy. This is a very rare presentation of a pituitary mass with mixed pathology. To our knowledge, this is the third description of a breast carcinoma metastasis into a gonadotroph cell pituitary adenoma.

Abstract

Background: Triplet energy differences (TED) can be studied to yield information on isospin-non-conserving interactions in nuclei. Purpose: The systematic behavior of triplet energy differences (TED) of T=1, Jπ=2+ states is examined. The A=62 isobar is identified as having a TED value that deviates significantly from an otherwise very consistent trend. This deviation can be attributed to the tentative assignments of the pertinent states in Ga62 and Ge62. Methods: An in-beam γ-ray spectroscopy experiment was performed to identify excited states in Ga62 using Gamma-Ray Energy Tracking In-Beam Nuclear Array with the S800 spectrometer at NSCL using a two-nucleon knockout approach. Cross-section calculations for the knockout process and shell-model calculations have been performed to interpret the population and decay properties observed. Results: Using the systematics as a guide, a candidate for the transition from the T=1, 2+ state is identified. However, previous work has identified similar states with different Jπ assignments. Cross-section calculations indicate that the relevant T=1, 2+ state should be one of the states directly populated in this reaction. Conclusions: As spins and parities were not measurable, it is concluded that an unambiguous identification of the first T=1, 2+ state is required to reconcile our understanding of TED systematics.

Abstract

Between 1995 and 2009, electron temperature (Te) measurements of more than 15000 plasmas produced in the Joint European Torus (JET) have been carefully reviewed using the two main diagnostics available over this time period: Michelson interferometer and Thomson scattering systems. Long term stability of JET Te is experimentaly observed by defining the ECE TS ratio as the ratio of central Te measured by Michelson and LIDAR. This paper, based on a careful review of Te measurement from 15 years of JET plasmas, concludes that JET Te exhibits a 15-20% effective uncertainty mostly made of large-scale temporal drifts, and an overall uncertainty of 16-22%. Variations of 18 plasma parameters are checked in another data set, made of a "reference data set" made of ohmic pulses as similar as possible between 1998 and 2009. Time drifts of ECE TS ratios appear to be mostly disconnected from the variations observed on these 18 plasma parameters, except for the very low amplitude variations of the field which are well correlated with off-plasma variations of a 8-channel integrator module used for measuring many magnetic signals from JET. From mid-2002 to 2009, temporal drifts of ECE TS ratios are regarded as calibration drifts possibly caused by unexpected sensitivity to unknown parameters; the external temperature on JET site might be the best parameter suspected so far. Off-plasma monitoring of MI made of calibration performed in the laboratory are reported and do not appear to be clearly correlated with drifts of ECE TS ratio and variations of magnetics signals integrators. Comparison of estimations of plasma thermal energy for purely Ohmic and NBI-only plasmas does not provide any definite information on the accuracy of \mi or \lidar measurements.
