Abstract

This paper presents a numerical study of natural convection in an annular cavity filled with a hybrid nanofluid under the influence of a magnetic field. This study is significant for applications requiring enhanced thermal management, such as in heat exchangers, electronics cooling, and energy systems. The inner cylinder, equipped with fins and subjected to uniform volumetric heat generation, contrasts with the adiabatic outer cylinder. This study aims to investigate how different nanoparticle combinations (Fe3O4 with Cu, Ag, and Al2O3) and varying Hartmann and Rayleigh numbers impact heat transfer efficiency. The finite volume method is employed to solve the governing equations, with simulations conducted using Fluent 6.3.26. Parameters such as volume fraction (ϕ2 = 0.001, 0.004, 0.006), Hartmann number (0 ≤ Ha ≤ 100), Rayleigh number (3 × 103 ≤ Ra ≤ 2.4 × 104), and fin number (N = 0, 2, 4, 6, 8) are analyzed. Streamlines, isotherms, and induced magnetic field contours are utilized to assess flow structure and heat transfer. The results reveal that increasing the Rayleigh number and magnetic field enhances heat transfer, while the presence of fins, especially at N = 2, may inhibit convection currents and reduce heat transfer efficiency. These findings provide valuable insights into optimizing nanofluid-based cooling systems and highlight the trade-offs in incorporating fins in thermal management designs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

To research the mechanisms of diffusion and water uptake kinetics biocomposites, various HDPE materials reinforced by varying quantities of Washingtonia filifera (WF) fibres (10 to 30 wt%) were submerged at room temperature in distilled water. To optimise the immersion time and WF fibre content in HDPE/WF biocomposite water uptake, an artificial neural network, the response surface methodology and the genetic algorithm were employed. In this research, the CCD model of RSM was utilised to carry out test design, modelling, and optimisation. It was found that the way water absorbs liquids follows the Fickian diffusion mode. The outcomes demonstrate that the incorporation of WF fibres into the HDPE matrix decreased the diffusivity. The ANOVA determined the relative significance of each variable and demonstrated the model's validity by demonstrating a high correlation between the observed data. Moreover, the results showed that the ANN models have training, test and validation correlation coefficients for water absorption prediction of 0.9955, 0.9915 and 0.9999, respectively. RSM-GA revealed that a 10% fibre content and a one-hour immersion duration produced the lowest levels of absorption. 47. Effect of alkaline treatment on the thermo-physicochemical and mechanical properties of biochar powder/Washingtonia robustafibers/PLA hybrid biocomposites

Abstract

Replacing plastic products with fully biodegradable products remains a challenge in our daily lives. Biodegradable hybrid bio composites are designed for various structural and non-structural applications such as car interiors, filaments for 3D printers, biomedical, sports and electronic products, green building materials and food packaging. In this work hybrid composites fabricated using polylactic acid (PLA) matrix reinforced with short plant fibers from the Washingtonia robusta(WR) palm tree and biochar powder (BC) with grain diameters less than 0.6 μm obtained from WR palm waste after carbonization at 300 °C. Initially, a portion of the untreated plant fibers was retained, while the other portion was treated with NaOH (1, 2, 3%) for 15 h. Indeed, the untreated and alkali-treated fibers were observed by SEM and then characterized by thermogravimetric analysis/differential scanning calorimetry. Fourier transform infrared showed physical and chemical changes with surface degradation of the WR treated at higher concentrations (3% NaOH). In addition, establish the relationship between the alkali treatments of the biocomposite reinforcement fibers and the improvement of the mechanical performance of these materials. The best results obtained for the developed biocomposite hybrid products are those of BTR3, for mechanical characteristics such as traction, flexural strength and Izod, with values of 39.56 MPa and 74.43 MPa, and 3.26 kJ/m2 respectively; and 2.30 MPa as elastic stress, also for water absorption with a percentage of 8.3%. The percentages of the alkaline treatments used revealed that the BTR3 model presents the best physical-chemical and mechanical behavior of these new materials.
