Introduction and Importance: Ipsilateral proximal and distal radius fractures without elbow dislocation are extremely rare injuries and a few cases have been reported. Currently, there is no well-established consensus regarding their optimal management., Case Presentation: We report the case of a 57-year-old woman who had a right bipolar radius fracture after falling from a standing height. The radiological investigation showed a comminuted distal radius fracture and a fracture of the radial head without elbow dislocation. The patient underwent surgical treatment and followed a rehabilitation protocol involving the elbow and wrist starting from the day after surgery with satisfactory clinical and radiological results at 1-year follow-up., Clinical Discussion: The diagnosis and treatment of these fractures are challenging. A systematic clinical examination of the wrist and elbow, combined with X-rays and a CT scan of the elbow, is crucial for diagnosing this type of fracture. Management should take into account the fracture type, radial length, interosseous membrane disruption, and the need to assess any associated injuries to the elbow and wrist., Conclusion: In this case report, we highlighted the importance of conducting a systematic clinical and radiological examination of the elbow after wrist trauma to establish the diagnosis. Introduction Tuberculosis of the soft tissues is a rare form of extra pulmonary tuberculosis, and isolated localization in the popliteal fossa is particularly exceptional. Atypical clinical presentation can lead to delayed diagnosis and serious complications. Case report We report the case of a 17-year-old patient who was diagnosed with tuberculosis of the popliteal fossa. He presented with a painful inflammatory swelling of the right popliteal fossa associated with a homolateral inguinal lymph node, without knee joint effusion. Standard chest and knee X-rays were normal, while MRI showed an 8 cm well vascularized, partly liquefied mass in the popliteal fossa, developed in contact with the semimembranosus and medial gastrocnemius muscles, associated with a popliteal lymph node without synovial effusion or thickening. Microbiological tests did not isolate any germs. The diagnosis was made on histological examination after biopsy, which revealed a caseous granuloma surrounded by epithelioid cells. The patient was treated with anti-tuberculosis therapy for 9 months. The clinical and radiological regression of the swelling was observed without recurrence at 2 years of follow-up. Conclusion Any soft tissue abscess should raise suspicion of tuberculosis, especially in endemic countries. The aim of this study was to investigate the association between serum concentrations of a group of organochlorine pesticides/polychlorinated biphenyls with xenoestrogenic potential and the risk of breast cancer in a female population from Tunisia. The relationship between serum levels of the pollutants and the risk of cancer was assessed using logistic regression analyses. In the unadjusted models, β-hexachlorocyclohexane (β-HCH), hexachlorobenzene, heptachlor, polychlorinated biphenyl congeners 138, 153, and 180, and p,p'-dichlorodiphenyldichloroethylene (p,p'-DDE) were positively associated with breast cancer risk. However, when the models were further adjusted for the selected covariates, only β-HCH and p,p'-DDE remained statistically significant, and heptachlor was borderline significant. In addition, analyses using POP concentration tertiles corroborated a positive dose-response relationship that was significant for p,p'-DDE (p-trend=0.020) and borderline significant for heptachlor (p-trend=0.078). Zearalenone (ZEN) is a well-known mycotoxin present in numerous agricultural products. Humans and animals are therefore at a risk of exposure to zearalenone through consumption of contaminated food. After intake, ZEN is reduced to α- and β-zearalenol (α-ZEL and β-ZEL), zearalanone (ZAN), and α- and β-zearalanol (α-ZAL and β-ZAL). Although their estrogenicity has been well characterized, much less is known about their interaction with other nuclear receptors. This study was undertaken to investigate interactions of ZEN and its five metabolites, with the human androgen receptor (hAR) and estrogen receptor alpha (hERα). Their ability to induce hAR-mediated reporter gene expression was examined in androgen-sensitive PALM cells, whereas the effects on hERα function were assessed in MCF-7 cells using the E-Screen bioassay. We confirm that ZEN and its metabolites are full agonists for hERα and demonstrate that all six compounds tested possess hAR-mediated antagonistic activity in PALM cells, in which ZAN, α-ZAL, and β-ZAL were the most effective hAR antagonists. Overall, the observed estrogenic and anti-androgenic potencies of ZEN and its metabolites suggest that these compounds may interfere with the endocrine system by various modes of action and that further investigation is warranted into their role as endocrine disrupters in animals and humans.
