Abstract

International audience; Business processes are used to represent the enterprise’s business and services it delivers. They are also used as a means to enforce customer’s satisfaction and to create an added value to the company. It is then more than critical to seriously consider the design of such processes and to make sure that they are free of any kind of inconsistencies.This paper highlights the issues with current approaches for process verification and proposes a new approach called ProVer. Three important design decisions will be motivated: 1) the use of UML AD as a process modeling language, 2) the formalization of the UML AD concepts for process verification as well as a well-identified set of properties in first-order logic (FOL) and 3) the use of SMT (Satisfiability Modulo Theories) as a mean to verify properties spanning different process’s perspectives in a very optimal way. The originality of ProVer is the ability for non-experts to express properties on processes than span the control, data, time, and resource perspectives using the same tool.

Abstract

International audience; Object-Oriented Models(OOM)are widely used in Model-Driven Engineering(MDE).As a complement, OCL constraints are used to specify business rules and detailed aspects of the business domain. Automatically co-evolving OCL constraints w.r.t. the evolved OOM is challenging since alternative resolutions can be applied but also a resolution cannot be applied to any arbitrary constraint. In this paper, we present SAC-OCL an Eclipse-based tool to semi automatically co-evolve OCL constraints when an OOM evolves. In contrast to existing tools, SAC-OCL proposes alternative resolutions for an impacted OCL constraint and proposes only the appropriate resolutions that can be applied on the impacted constraint. Our evaluation on six case studies shows an average correct co-evolution rate of 92%

Abstract

International audience; Modern systems consist of a complex mix of products and services—legacy, bespoke, COTS,open source, licensed, and user-developed—that must be designed to meet rapidly changingbusiness needs [9]. Business processes must be agile to capture and maintain customers withrapidly evolving needs, tastes, and desires. Systems technology and development methods must beresponsive to business needs to continuously support value creation. However, legacy and regulatoryconstraints, emerging requirements, enhanced interoperability, and the ascendancy of software havechallenged system development processes, and has made many companies deploying so-calledhybrid development approaches address these manifold constraints [14]. Just as systems are morenecessary for business success, the ability to align systems and business goals and processeshas become more difficult. In fact, in the field of software process development, deployment,and continuous improvement, we find a diversity of (competing) approaches, and we face afield that is still on the quest for the “optimal” approach to organize and improve software andsystem development [8]. In the past, the processes and underlying principles of business, systemengineering and software engineering have independently evolved and are represented by languagesand concepts that are tantalizingly similar and yet seem to be in conflict. This has led to confusionand often friction between and among these critical conceptual constituents [5].The volume at hand presents the special issue of theInternational Conference on Software andSystems Process(ICSSP) 2015, which was held in Tallinn, Estonia from August 24-26, 2015.ICSSP as the premier venue for research related to software and systems development processeshas become an important mediator for industry and academia. To answer questions like the onementioned before, ICSSP brings together scientists and practitioners to discuss problems andsolutions, and to present concrete experiences. Therefore, the six high-quality papers chosen forthis special issue address both a solid scientific background and an industry focus. It is throughpublishing such papers that we can bridge the industry-research gap, ensuring that our research willhave an impact, not only through our teaching and graduate programs but also by having a directeffect on the improvement of processes within industry.

Abstract

International audience; Ensuring models’ consistency is a key concern when using a model-based development approach. Therefore, model inconsistency detection has received significant attention over the last years. To be useful, inconsistency detection has to be sound, efficient, and scalable. Incremental detection is one way to achieve efficiency in the presence of large models. In most of the existing approaches, incrementalization is carried out at the expense of the memory consumption that becomes proportional to the model size and the number of consistency rules. In this paper, we propose a new incremental inconsistency detection approach that only consumes a small and model size-independent amount of memory. It will therefore scale better to projects using large models and many consistency rules.

Abstract

International audience; The Cloud Computing paradigm is used by many actors, whether companies or individuals in order to harness the power and agility of remote computing resources. Because they target developers and offer a smooth and easy way to deploy modern enterprise software without dealing with the underlying infrastructure, there is a steadily increasing interest for Platforms as a Service (PaaS). However, the lock-in makes the migration to another platform difficult. If the vendor decides to raise its prices or change its security policies, the customer may have to consider to move to the competition or suffer from these changes. Assistance and tooling to move to the competition at the PaaS layer still does not exist thus requiring tremendous re-engineering effort. In this regard, we propose an approach to the challenge of software migration between PaaS using Model-Driven Engineering coupled to Program Transformation.

This problem is amplified in the context of multi-viewpoint-based development of complex systems where the system’s specification comes in form of different and intertwined viewpoints. Without a methodological support, these deviations become inevitable. They can be of different kinds: 1) behavioral deviations related to inappropriate actions performed by the developer when realizing process’s activities or 2) structural deviations due to inconsistencies in deliverables, which can be in conflict with other view-point’s outcomes. This paper proposes an approach to overcome these issues. To demonstrate the approach, a prototype was developed and the RM-ODP standard and a viewpoint-based development process were used.
