The growing attention of consumers to the social and environmental aspects associated with the production of agro-industrial goods is a key driver for leading companies. The attention to social and environmental issues increases the added value of a company. A useful tool that can measure the Social Responsibility of a business is the Social-Life Cycle Assessment (S-LCA). The aim of this paper is to suggest a better diffusion of the S-LCA implementation in the agri-food sector, since the social dimensions of sustainability have still limited application worldwide. This scope is in line with the literature's recommendation to carry out more case studies to improve the methodology and highlight where the S-LCA is weak. The paper includes two stages: firstly a description of the methodology is proposed; secondly we will present the results of some studies, focused on the agro-industrial sector, to see what information can be drawn from S-LCA implementation., Italian Review of Agricultural Economics, Vol 71 No 1 (2016): Vol 71, No 1 (Suppl.) The aim of the research carried out in the course of the three years has been various. The first one was to define the aspects characterizing the competitive position of the main operating systems of production on the "international citrus markets". Within this line of search it has been carried out an analysis of the competitiveness of the main countries in the international trade, through different economie indicators and has been applied the CMSA analysis. The second one, has focused the attention on the business analysis, placing to comparison biological and conventional citrus companies.

Over recent years considerable research has been devoted to the assessment of the rural landscape value. These studies have concerned both use and non-use value estimation. An important issue in monetary evaluations is about taking (or not) into account the structural complexity of landscape. Three analytical approaches may be recognized on the basis of whether landscape structural attributes are involved (global, mono-attribute and multi-attribute approach). The present work is part of a research aimed to seek out rational instruments for guidance policies on rural landscape. It consists in a survey of the main studies appeared in literature. The specific purpose is to classify these empirical analyses in accordance both to the approaches mentioned above and to the landscape typologies (agricultural or forestry) involved.

Se è vero che il turismo rappresenta un settore di importanza strategica ai fini dello sviluppo economico della Sardegna, si tratta in questa parte dello studio di quantificarne la produttività in termini di apporto effettivo che può derivare dai consumi aggiuntivi alimentati dai flussi turistici in entrata provenienti dal resto d'Italia e dall'estero. Con l'obiettivo specifico di soddisfare le esigenze della presente ricerca è evidente che particolare attenzione è stata posta alla disamina degli effetti della spesa turistica sul sistema agro-alimentare regionale includendo al suo interno non solo i settori agricolo ed alimentare ma anche quei settori del sistema economico regionale che sono ad essi legati da meccanismi di acquisto e di vendita.

La trattazione descrive lo sviluppo dell'offerta agrituristica in Sardegna partendo dallo studio dello scenario economico nel quale si è diffuso l'agriturismo, attraverso l'utilizzo di strumenti statistici. In particolare verrà applicata un'analisi dicriminante multipla prendendo in esame un campione di aziende in due specifiche e differenti realtà territoriali (Nurra e Ogliastra), allo scopo di individuarne gli elementi più importanti che le contraddistinguono.

Karst caves are widespread in Europe, especially in the Mediterranean area. Besides their purely environmental functions, they often are important tourist destinations and contribute to the so-called identity amenities or landscape beauties of a territory. In spite of their interest and tourism potential, economists have paid little attention to karst caves and their economic value. In this paper, the contingent valuation method (CVM) was applied to investigate tourists’ preferences and estimate the monetary value attributed to karst caves, and in particular to the Pradis Caves, Friuli Venezia Giulia region (Italy). 540 visitors of the area took part in a face-to-face contingent valuation survey. Mean willingness-to-pay was equal to € 5.37. When scaled up to the population, gross social benefit was estimated in about € 23 K/year. Findings suggest that the karst cave value could have a significant impact on the social welfare gains or losses, and inform the karst cave-use management debate concerning the trade-offs of developing tourism activities. The estimated values allow institutional decision makers to identify the volume of financial resources to be put into play for interventions aimed at protection and conservation of this environmental asset.

Mestrado em Engenharia de Viticultura e Enologia (Double degree) / Instituto Superior de Agronomia. Universidade de Lisboa / Faculdade de Ciências. Universidade do Porto Casal da Manteiga is a winery that has launched a project of re-packaging of their fortified wine marketed under the Villa Oeiras brand. The aim is to relaunch their product on the market with a new look that could communicate more clearly its characteristics and historical and territorial roots. In particular, the winery has created a prototype bottle in transparent glass with a more original and distinctive shape respect to the one on the market. In order to gain the local consumer's opinions on the brand and obtain feedback on the new packaging, a qualitative survey was carried out, based on the focus group's methodology. In support of this analysis, a quantitative survey was conducted via an online questionnaire. The focus group revealed a lack of knowledge of the Villa Oeiras brand among local consumers. With regard to the new packaging, this has shown a strong attraction towards consumers of fortified, compared to the current one, thanks to the transparent glass that allows to appreciate the consistency and colour. The dataset obtained from the questionnaire was analysed with the technique of multiple correspondences analysis in order to identify the most significant correlations. The results obtained showed that some of the elements of the new bottle prototype showed a high correlation with consumers with a high spending power and a frequent consumption of fortified wine N/A
