Polyaniline (PAni)–coated ZnO–SiO2–based hybrid material was prepared successfully with the in-situ polymerisation method and the product was subsequently analysed using XPS, XRD, TEM, UV-vis, TGA, FTIR and BET. The optical band gap calculated from the Tauc plot was found to be 2.89 eV. Moreover, this work reports an extensive study of the effect of the SiO2 on the electrochemical performance of hybrid material based on ZnO and PAni employing cyclic voltammetry. Furthermore, to evaluate the adsorption of methylene blue (MB), the parameters for the effectiveness of the adsorption process, including pH value, concentration and temperature, were investigated. The results indicated that the maximum adsorption of MB on the produced hybrid material occurred at pH 6.8 with a capacity reaching 71.2 mg.g−1. The thermodynamic studies indicate that the adsorption of MB on this adsorbent is spontaneous and endothermic in nature. Furthermore, PAni@ZnO–SiO2 is attractive for treating the effluents containing dyes due to its recyclability and high removal capacity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

AbstractFree-fall tribo-electrostatic separators have long been used for sorting granular plastic wastes. The aim of this paper is to propose a modified configuration of the electrode system of such a separator and validate its effectiveness for processing a mixture of polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP) flakes originating from the processing of packaging waste at GRANUPLAST Company, Jassans-Riottier, France. The mixture to be treated is not homogeneous and consisted of roughly 2/3 PE and 1/3 PP. The granular mixture samples were charged by triboelectric effect in a fluidized bed device, and then introduced into a laboratory-scale free-fall electrostatic separator. Preliminary tests were conducted to ascertain the mass of the mixture to be introduced in the fluidized bed and the duration of the charging process. Better results were obtained with the modified electrode configuration of the free-fall electrostatic separator. Thus, from 100 g of mixed flakes, 98.2% of PE and 96.6% of PP were recovered with purities of 99.1% and 98%, respectively. In addition, numerical modeling of the PP and PE particles trajectory was performed to simulate the behavior of charged particles in the standard and modified electrode configurations. Volume dielectric barrier discharge (VDBD) is considered to be the most effective method for ozone generation. This paper reports a comparison between a simple 'classic' VDBD cylindrical ozone generator and a 'metallic-mesh-filled-air-gap cylindrical dielectric barrier discharge' model. The obtained results show that although the majority of ozone generators are of the volume discharge type, the novel volume discharge model has provided better results in terms of ozone generation and energy efficiency. This paper is aimed to investigate the application of Pulsed Electric Field (PEF) as a pretreatment step for the intensification of the essential oil extraction yield of Marrubium vulgar that is a local plant from Mascara, Algeria. PEF has been applied for this purpose to improve the permeabilization by electroporation of the biological membranes. The PEF treatment was optimized by using the experiments design methodology, by considering as input factors the voltage level, the pulses number and the distillation process duration. Obtained results have shown that (i) the electrical conductivity of the sample increases due to the enhancement of the mass transfer (ii) the extraction process is significantly improved because the amount of the PEF-treated essential oil has increased up to three times. Moreover, physicochemical analysis of the essential oil carried out before and after treatment has shown that almost all parameters were identified and recovered after treatment. The oxidation by ozone is considered as being an effective solution and offers irrefutable advantages in wastewater treatment. Ozone is used to treat different types of water due to its effectiveness in water purification and for its oxidation potential. This process of ozonation becomes progressively as an alternative technology and is inscribed in a sustainable development perspective, in particular in Algeria, where other conventional techniques of treatment are used in comparison to the latter, which is often used in Europe. Our work describes this process of treatment using the ozone produced by dielectric barrier discharges (DBD), which are fed by a high voltage of several thousands of volts. So, we conceived and accomplished a new generator of ozone DBD of cylindrical form, which will be used for wastewater treatment (WWTP) of Mascara, west of Algeria. Our experimental results have revealed the effectiveness of this type of treatment on the basis of physicochemical analysis (pH, turbidity, chemical oxygen demand, biological oxygen demand and oxidable matter) and bacteriological (total coliforms, fecal coliforms,Escherichia coliandSalmonella) upstream and downstream of the WWTP which presents a very high rate of elimination of all the parameters, particularly for the turbidity and bacteria in a very effective manner.
