Abstract

In this paper, we report the first experimental demonstration of a Temporal HyperTelescope (THT). Our breadboard including 8 telescopes is firstly tested in a manual cophasing configuration on a 1D object. The Point Spread Function (PSF) is measured and exhibits a dynamics in the range of 300. A quantitative analysis of the potential biases demonstrates that this limitation is related to the residual phase fluctuation on each interferometric arm. Secondly, an unbalanced binary star is imaged demonstrating the imaging capability of THT. In addition, 2D PSF is recorded even if the telescope array is not optimized for this purpose., Comment: Accepted for publication in MNRAS. 11 pages, 25 figures

Abstract

International audience; The direct observation of tiny little object, like exoplanets, is a challenging problem in optical astronomy. The design of an instrument with a strongly high resolution and a huge dynamics involve the assembling of several telescopes under the form of an array and the use of optical interferometric technology. This design of a so-called hypertelescope can be modelized under the form of nonlinear semi-infinite optimization problem those solutions are the positions and the diameter of the telescopes into the array. We report on some theoretical results and numerical experiments to solve this difficult problem.

Abstract

International audience; We propose a new primal-dual algorithm for solving nonlinearly constrai- ned minimization problems. This is a Newton-like method applied to a per- turbation of the optimality system that follows from a reformulation of the initial problem by introducing an augmented Lagrangian and a log-barrier penalty to handle both equality and bound constraints. Two kinds of itera- tions are used. The outer iterations at which the different parameters, such as the Lagrange multipliers and the penalty parameters, are updated. The inner iterations to get a sufficient decrease of a given primal-dual penalty function. Both iterations use the same kind of coefficient matrix and the corresponding linear system is solved by means of a symmetric indefinite factorization including an inertia-controlling technique. The globalization is performed by means of a line search strategy on a primal-dual merit func- tion. An important aspect of this approach is that, by a choice of suitable update rules of the parameters, the algorithm reduces to a regularized New- ton method applied to a sequence of optimality systems derived from the original problem. The global convergence and the asymptotic properties of the algorithm are presented. In particular, we show that the algorithm is q-superlinear convergent. In addition, this method is able to solve the well known example of Wachter and Biegler, for which some interior point methods based on a line search strategy fail.

Abstract

International audience; We present a primal-dual augmented Lagrangian algorithm for NLP. The algorithm is based on the Newton method applied to a sequence of per- turbed KKT systems which comes by introducing both an augmented La- grangian and a log-barrier penalty. The globalization is done by means of a control of the iterates in the primal-dual space all along the iterations. Global and asymptotic convergence results are shown. Numerical tests are also presented. We show that the method is robust in the sense that it is able to solve degenerate problems for which the Jacobian of constraints is rank deficient.

Abstract

International audience; We present a uniform boundedness property of a sequence of in- verses of Jacobian matrices that arises in regularized primal-dual interior-point methods in linear and nonlinear programming. We then show how this new result can be applied to the analysis of the global convergence properties of these methods. In particular, we will detail the convergence analysis of an interior point method to solve nonlinear optimization problems, with dynamic updates of the barrier parameter.
