Aim: The aim of this study was to explore Italian nurses’ publications from 1980 to 2020. Background/Objectives: Several studies have been conducted internationally to assess nursing research output. In Italy, there are some older studies, but a comprehensive analysis of the Italian nursing scientific production after 2010 is needed. Methods: A bibliometric analysis was conducted through a retrospective descriptive study. All articles (n = 3423) published by Italian nurses (n = 2170) and indexed in Scopus were included, in accordance with the PRISMA guidelines. Results: Publication trends show a steady growth, with an increase in publications in journals with higher IFs. Most publications were focused on clinical research and used quantitative methods (n = 2473 articles (86.71%)). The most frequently conducted quantitative studies were observational studies (52.91%), followed by experimental studies (12.5%), instrumental studies (6.72%), and other methodologies (0.15%). Qualitative studies accounted for n = 318 articles (11.15%), and mixed-method studies accounted for n = 61 articles (2.14%). Conclusions: The overall improvement in Italian nursing research is due to the increase in the number of nurses with PhDs and academics in the country. More funding and nursing research positions are needed to further improve research.

El subrégimen industrial de Tierra del Fuego es el más controvertido y oneroso régimen de promoción económica de Argentina. Creado en 1972 como parte central de un régimen de incentivos más amplio, regula la entrada de productos fabricados en Tierra del Fuego al resto del mercado argentino, estableciendo los beneficios asociados y las condiciones de acceso. A pesar de su importancia y centralidad en la discusión pública, no se han formulado hasta ahora propuestas concretas de reformulación integral del subrégimen ni se han desarrollado herramientas de análisis que permitan evaluar sus impactos esperables. En este trabajo, a partir de un diagnóstico en el cual identificamos un problema de diseño en el esquema de incentivos, que caracterizamos como inadecuado al premiar la facturación de las empresas en vez del valor agregado que generan, planteamos una propuesta de reformulación que busca bajar gradualmente, en un plazo de 11 años, la mayor parte de la renuncia fiscal asociada al subrégimen. A la vez, desarrollamos un modelo de simulación que permite evaluar los impactos de esta propuesta en términos de empleo, producción, y resultado fiscal. Los resultados muestran que el costo fiscal del subrégimen asciende a US$ 1070 M y que la implementación de nuestra propuesta generaría un ahorro fiscal acumulado en 11 años de aproximadamente US$ 5900 M (más casi US$ 900 M en cada año subsiguiente). A la vez, se perderían aproximadamente 7250 empleos, que podrían verse compensados –según un estudio complementario (Bril Mascarenhas et al., 2023)– con la creación de un número similar de empleos en nuevos sectores autosustentables.

This research uses artificial intelligence and manual content-analysis to examine the diffusion of incivility against political leaders on Twitter during the 2022 Italian election campaign. Using a mixed approach (artificial intelligence and manual content analysis), we examined 22,465 uncivil tweets posted in the 4 weeks before the vote. Results show that hostility toward leaders increases as voting approaches and as candidates’ public visibility grows, and that it affects frontrunner leaders the most. Furthermore, the analysis of the different forms of incivility showed that it changes depending on the target it hits, revealing unexpected aspects: contrary to expectations, incivility against the only female leader (Giorgia Meloni) are not “sexist attacks” but forms of demonization (i.e., association with figures/symbols concerning totalitarian regimes); while against Giuseppe Conte, accusations of “illegality,” lies and “misinformation” prevail, that is, the same kind of incivility that he and his party use against opponents. Finally, we found that the authors of uncivil attacks are mainly ordinary/sporadic users, with all the consequences that this implies in terms of a normalization of incivility in public debate.

Percutaneous treatment of highly thrombotic coronary lesions is demanding, due to worse acute and long-term clinical outcomes. In this report, we describe a case series of six patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction and high-thrombus-burden coronary lesions. All patients were treated with the AngioJet Solent® Dista catheter, a rheolytic thrombectomy device designed for peripheral use. The catheter effectively reduced the thrombus burden in all cases, achieving satisfactory final angiographic results. One case of no-reflow was observed following lesion dilatation prior to thrombectomy, but no other major in-hospital adverse events occurred. At mid-term follow-up, all patients remained free from angina. These preliminary findings suggest that this approach could represent a promising option for managing highly thrombotic coronary lesions, but further studies with larger populations and long-term follow-up are needed to confirm these results.

When an increased nuchal translucency (>3.00 mm) is observed during the echographic examination of a foetus in the first trimester of pregnancy, an increased risk of chromosomopathy is considered, and the pregnant woman is offered the possibility of an invasive investigation. Here, we focused our attention on prenatal diagnosis issues in cases of foetuses with cytogenetically balanced reciprocal translocations. We report the finding of a cytogenetically balanced, de facto genomically unbalanced translocation that poses a challenge in a case of prenatal diagnosis, changing the risk of Down syndrome in a Zellweger syndromic spectrum risk (PEX3 deletion). At term, a healthy baby was born. This case teaches that prenatal diagnosis in cases of foetuses at increased risk of chromosomal abnormality imperatively requires molecular investigation in addition to a morphological karyotype.

How do people acquire information and make decisions in an inherently complex world? We use the game Entropy Mastermind to investigate the cognitive strategies people adopt under various task conditions in situations characterized by high combinatorial complexity. N = 42 participants completed a total of 271 games, varying in incentive structure: In the speed condition, participants were incentivised for solving games quickly; in the efficiency condition, incentives were given for solutions requiring few problem solving steps; in the mixed condition, both speed and efficiency were incentivised.We found that participants adapted their problem solving strategies to the imposed constraints: In the speed condition simpler strategies were used, making feedback easy to interpret. Our results support the hypothesis that in complex environments people flexibly adjust their cognitive strategies to optimize the fit between situational requirements and their cognitive resources.
