Background Two concurrent malignancies present in a young person is an extremely rare condition. Diagnoses of gastric cancer primarily concern older patients. There are very few reports of concomitant Krukenberg tumor and germ-cell ovarian malignancy. Case A 19-year-old girl was admitted to the gynecologic oncology department with symptoms of advanced malignancy. Radiological imaging revealed disseminated neoplastic disease with bulky adnexal tumors. Cytoreductive surgery was performed, achieving no visible disease (T = 0 cm). The final pathology report confirmed metastatic mixed adenoneuroendocrine carcinoma (MANEC) in both ovaries, originating from the gastrointestinal tract. Moreover, the primary germ cell yolk sac tumor was found in the left ovary. Conclusion In cases of concomitant gastric and ovarian tumors, metastatic disease (Krukenberg tumor) should be considered in the differential diagnosis. This concerns even adolescent patients. In particular cases, including tumors with germ cell components, primary debulking surgery is crucial for prognosis.

Polish constitutional law utilizes the notion of “constitutionalism” but does not explain the basic components which would help to classify a given system to such a category. The 20th century utilized this concept for the purposes of confrontation between West and East, but with the democratic wave of the 1990s and the decay of the transition process, it began to lose its widely acknowledged criteria of recognition. The article brings new taxonomy proposed in comparative constitutional law which suggests that there is no longer one fixed notion of constitutionalism. Such an approach seems to be the equivalent of realpolitik in constitutional studies accompanied by the suggestion that Western taxonomy can no longer ignore the protracted existence of constitution- based states which treat it as an object but reject other components e.g. separation of powers, an effective impartial and independent judicial system and legal constraints. Such realism in taxonomy may come at a price, with even further decay of rule of law standards and erosion of liberal democracy.

The effect of short-term thermomechanical (STTM) densification on shear strength of plywood produced with Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) veneers was investigated. The veneer sheets were densified under temperatures of 20 °C, 120 °C, and 180 °C, and pressure of 1 MPa for 2 min. There were four polyvinyl acetate (PVAc) adhesives, 1 emulsion polymer isocyanate (EPI)-adhesive, and 2 resins for comparison reasons applied. The samples were stored for 7 d under the normal climate temperature of 22 °C and relative humidity of 65%. As a result of STTM densification, the plywood had higher density but lower shear strength. The plywood made with these veneers and EPI-adhesives showed the highest shear strength values. There was a slight difference of the final product’s shear strength between the used adhesives, but it was not noticeable in tested conditions.

The article concerns the obstruction of access to public records (affidavits of support for can-didates to the Polish National Council of The Judiciary) by the Chancellery of the Sejm, despite its fundamental importance for assessment of the Council’s constitutionality. The concerns expressed by the European Court of Justice on November 19th, 2019 in joint cases A.K. & Others (C-585/18, C-624/18 and C-625/18) followed by Polish Supreme Court resolution BSA I-4110-1/20 of January 23rd, 2020 may boil down to the need of verifying the entire appointment process through the in-spection of paper records held by the Sejm. The proactive disclosure of the crucial records by the Sejm in February 2020 took almost two years when the legal dispute regarding the Council’s status had already been resolved by a Supreme Court resolution. Despite strong and clear constitutional provisions for access to such information (art. 54, 61 of the Constitution of Poland), the practical problem lies in the relatively inefficient freedom of information law weakened, ironically by the first victim of such a culture of secrecy, the judiciary itself, and the extreme reluctance of all political actors (including the opposition) in a parliamentary system of government to improve transparency. The article proves that there shall be no compromise over the scope and efficiency of the FOIA law if the records are of fundamental importance for the preservation of constitutional order.

The dataset contains data collected during the HE National Contact Point training on Oct. 12, 2022, reg. the administrative part of Horizon Europe grant proposals. The data set includes presentations concerning administrative forms of 2022 proposals and their content, including participant data; information about abstract writing, keyword choice and the selection of publications; Gender Equality Plan, as well as ethics and security.

Background: Recent clinical trials on ovarian cancer with mifepristone (MF) have failed, despite in vitro findings on its strong progesterone (P4) antagonist function. Methods: Ovarian cancer human and murine cell lines, cultured high-grade human primary epithelial ovarian cancer (HG-hOEC) cells and their explants; as well as in vivo transgenic mice possessing ovarian cancer were used to assess the molecular mechanism underlying mifepristone (MF) agonistic actions in ovarian cancer progression. Findings: Herein, we show that ovarian cancer cells express traceable/no nuclear P4 receptor (PGR), but abundantly P4 receptor membrane component 1 (PGRMC1). MF significantly stimulated ovarian cancer cell migration, proliferation and growth in vivo, and the translocation of PGRMC1 into the nucleus of cancer cells; the effects inhibited by PGRMC1 inhibitor. The beneficial antitumor effect of high-doses MF could not be achieved in human cancer tissue, and the low tissue concentrations achieved with the therapeutic doses only promoted the growth of ovarian cancers. Interpretation: Our results indicate that treatment of ovarian cancer with MF and P4 may induce similar adverse agonistic effects in the absence of classical nuclear PGRs in ovarian cancer. The blockage of PGRMC1 activity may provide a novel treatment strategy for ovarian cancer. The mechanical properties of cured wood adhesive films were tested in a dry state by means of nanoindentation. These studies have found that the application of adhesives have an effect on the accuracy of the hardness and elastic modulus determination. The highest values of hardness among the tested adhesives at 20 °C have condensation resins: MF (0.64 GPa) and RPF (0.52 GPa). Then the decreasing EPI (0.43 GPa), PUR (0.23 GPa) and PVAc (0.14 GPa) adhesives. The values of the elastic modulus look a little bit different. The highest values among the tested adhesives at 20 °C have EPI (11.97 GPa), followed by MF (10.54 GPa), RPF (7.98 GPa), PVAc (4.71 GPa) and PUR (3.37 GPa). X-ray micro-computed tomography was used to evaluate the adhesive joint by the determination of the voids. It has been proven that this value depends on the type of adhesive, glue quantity and reactivity. The highest values of the void ratio achieve the PUR (17.26%) adhesives, then PVAc (13.97%), RRF (6.88%), MF (1.78%) and EPI (0.03%). The ratio of the gaps increases with the higher joint thickness. The selective progesterone receptor modulator mifepristone (MF) may act as a potent antiproliferative agent in different steroid-dependent cancers due to its strong antagonistic effect on the nuclear progesterone receptor (PGR). Hereby, we analyzed the effects of MF treatment on Leydig cell tumor (LCT) progression in a transgenic mouse model (inhibin-&alpha, promoter-driven SV40 T-antigen), as well as on LCT (BLTK-1 and mLTC-1) cell proliferation. MF significantly stimulated the proliferation of LCT in vitro. Similarly, a 1-mo MF or P4 treatment stimulated LCT tumor growth in vivo. Traceable/absent classical Pgr or nonclassical membrane PRs &alpha, &beta, &gamma, and Pgrmc2, but abundant membrane Pgrmc1 expression, was found in LCTs. MF did not activate glucocorticoid or androgen receptors in LCTs. Functional analysis showed that PGRMC1 is required for MF and P4 to stimulate the proliferation and invasiveness of LCTs. Accordingly, MF and P4 induced PGRMC1 translocation into the nucleus and thereby stimulated the release of TGF&beta, 1 in LCT cells. MF and P4 treatments upregulated Tgfbr1, Tgfbr2, and Alk1 expression and stimulated TGF&beta, 1 release in LCT cells. Our findings provide novel mechanistic insights into the action of MF as a membrane PR agonist that promotes LCT growth through PGRMC1 and the alternative TGF&beta, 1 signaling pathway.

Political campaigns are full of political ads posted by candidates on social media. Political advertisements constitute a basic form of campaigning, subjected to various social requirements. We present the first publicly open dataset for detecting specific text chunks and categories of political advertising in the Polish language. It contains 1,705 human-annotated tweets tagged with nine categories, which constitute campaigning under Polish electoral law. We achieved a 0.65 inter-annotator agreement (Cohen's kappa score). An additional annotator resolved the mismatches between the first two annotators improving the consistency and complexity of the annotation process. We used the newly created dataset to train a well established neural tagger (achieving a 70% percent points F1 score). The following article provides the outline of the right to information on activities of the persons discharging public functions and public organs in the Republic of Poland. The article considers the structure of the right established in the Constitution of 2 April 1997 and its connection with freedom to receive and impart information.

FSH receptor (FSHR), besides being expressed in gonads, is also expressed in some extragonadal tissues at low levels.We examined the functional expression of FSHR in different types of endometriotic lesions.Extensive studies were carried out to detect functional FSHR expression and FSH-stimulated estrogen production in ovarian endometriomas and recto-vaginal endometriotic nodules (RVEN). Normal endometrium, ovary, and myometrium tissues from nonpregnant cycling women served as controls.This laboratory-based study was carried out on tissue specimens from patients with endometriosis and healthy donors.Endometriotic lesions and normal secretory-phase endometrium showed FSHR expression at both mRNA and protein level. RVEN and ovarian endometrioma demonstrated up-regulated CYP19A1, dependent on the activation of CYP19A1 proximal promoter II. Estrogen receptor-β (ESR2) expression was significantly increased in RVEN vs normal endometrium. Recombinant human FSH stimulation of RVEN explants significantly increased estradiol production and CYP19A1 and ESR2 expression. FSHR was up-regulated in recombinant human FSH-stimulated endometrial and decidualized stromal cells with increased CYP19A1 expression.We described a novel functional FSHR expression, where FSH-stimulated CYP19A1 expression and estrogen production in RVEN are demonstrated. This locally FSH-induced estrogen production may contribute to the pathology, development, progression, and severity of RVEN.
