Collisional satellite lines with |ΔJ| ≤ 58 have been identified in recent polarization spectroscopy V-type optical-optical double resonance (OODR) excitation spectra of the Rb2 molecule [H. Salami et al., Phys. Rev. A 80, 022515 (2009)]. Observation of these satellite lines clearly requires a transfer of population from the rotational level directly excited by the pump laser to a neighboring level in a collision of the molecule with an atomic perturber. However to be observed in polarization spectroscopy, the collision must also partially preserve the angular momentum orientation, which is at least somewhat surprising given the extremely large values of ΔJ that were observed. In the present work, we used the two-step OODR fluorescence and polarization spectroscopy techniques to obtain quantitative information on the transfer of population and orientation in rotationally inelastic collisions of the NaK molecules prepared in the 2(A)1Σ+(v′ = 16, J′ = 30) rovibrational level with argon and potassium perturbers. A rate equation model was used to study the intensities of these satellite lines as a function of argon pressure and heat pipe oven temperature, in order to separate the collisional effects of argon and potassium atoms. Using a fit of this rate equation model to the data, we found that collisions of NaK molecules with potassium atoms are more likely to transfer population and destroy orientation than collisions with argon atoms. Collisions with argon atoms show a strong propensity for population transfer with ΔJ = even. Conversely, collisions with potassium atoms do not show this ΔJ = even propensity, but do show a propensity for ΔJ = positive compared to ΔJ = negative, for this particular initial state. The density matrix equations of motion have also been solved numerically in order to test the approximations used in the rate equation model and to calculate fluorescence and polarization spectroscopy line shapes. In addition, we have measured rate coefficients for broadening of NaK 31Π ← 2(A)1Σ+spectral lines due to collisions with argon and potassium atoms. Objectives: In the interpretation of panoramic radiographs (PRs), the identification and numbering of teeth is an important part of the correct diagnosis. This study evaluates the effectiveness of YOLO-v5 in the automatic detection, segmentation, and numbering of deciduous and permanent teeth in mixed dentition pediatric patients based on PRs., Methods: A total of 3854 mixed pediatric patients PRs were labelled for deciduous and permanent teeth using the CranioCatch labeling program. The dataset was divided into three subsets: training (n = 3093, 80% of the total), validation (n = 387, 10% of the total) and test (n = 385, 10% of the total). An artificial intelligence (AI) algorithm using YOLO-v5 models were developed., Results: The sensitivity, precision, F-1 score, and mean average precision-0.5 (mAP-0.5) values were 0.99, 0.99, 0.99, and 0.98 respectively, to teeth detection. The sensitivity, precision, F-1 score, and mAP-0.5 values were 0.98, 0.98, 0.98, and 0.98, respectively, to teeth segmentation., Conclusions: YOLO-v5 based models can have the potential to detect and enable the accurate segmentation of deciduous and permanent teeth using PRs of pediatric patients with mixed dentition., (© 2024. Purpose: To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of intravitreal melphalan (IVM) injection therapy in vitreoretinal lymphoma., Methods: Eight eyes of five biopsy-proven vitreoretinal lymphoma patients who were treated with IVM injection as a second-line therapy after intravitreal methotrexate and rituximab injections were retrospectively evaluated between January 2011 and March 2023., Results: The medical records of five vitreoretinal lymphoma patients (mean age of 62 years at the diagnosis) including 4 (80%) female patients and 1 (20%) male patient were retrospectively analyzed. Three patients (60%) either had a history of central nervous lymphoma or developed it during the follow-up. Patients were previously treated with a mean of five cycles of monthly intravitreal methotrexate and rituximab injections. All eyes showed complete response by the disappearance of vitreal and/or subretinal neoplastic cells within 6 weeks after IVM injections (range, 1-4 injections per eye). Of 12 IVM injections, 3 (25%) injections were associated with macular edema diagnosed on optical coherence tomography at 1-month follow-up and resolved spontaneously within 5 months. The IVM administration induced new retinal pigment epithelium changes in three eyes (37%)., Conclusion: Intravitreal melphalan injection may be effective in the management of vitreoretinal lymphoma as a second-line local therapy. Randomized clinical trials with larger numbers of patients are needed to establish the efficacy, treatment protocol, and safety of IVM injection.

Purpose: The goal of this work was to assess the classification of maturation stage using artificial intelligence (AI) classifiers., Methods: Hand-wrist radiographs (HWRs) from 1067 individuals aged between 7 and 18 years were included. Fifteen regions of interest were selected for fractal dimension (FD) analysis. Five predictive models with different inputs were created (model 1: only FD; model 2: FD and Chapman sesamoid stage; model 3: FD, age, and sex; model 4: FD, Chapman sesamoid stage, age, and sex; model 5: Chapman sesamoid stage, age, and sex). The target diagnoses were accelerating growth velocity, very high growth velocity, and decreasing growth velocity. Four AI algorithms were applied: multilayer perceptron (MLP), support vector machine (SVM), gradient boosting machine (GBM) and C 5.0 decision tree classifier., Results: All AI algorithms except for C 5.0 yielded similar overall predictive accuracies for the five models. In order from lowest to highest, the predictive accuracies of the models were as follows: model 1 < model 3 < model 2 < model 5 < model 4. The highest overall F1 score, which was used instead of accuracy especially for models with unbalanced data, was obtained for models 1, 2, and 3 based on SVM, for model 4 based on MLP, and for model 5 based on C 5.0. Adding Chapman sesamoid stage, chronologic age, and sex as additional inputs to the FD values significantly increased the F1 score., Conclusion: Applying FD analysis to HWRs is not sufficient to predict maturation stage in growing patients but can be considered a growth rate prediction method if combined with the Chapman sesamoid stage, age, and sex., (© 2024. Purpose: To review the outcomes of targeted therapy and immunotherapy in advanced conjunctival tumors, including conjunctival squamous cell carcinoma, conjunctival melanoma, and conjunctival lymphoma., Methods: A Pubmed database systematic search was performed between January 1999 and December 2022. The literature search was limited to studies published in English., Results: This review included 142 patients with advanced malignant conjunctival tumors from 42 articles. In the conjunctival squamous cell carcinoma group, 2 cases of advanced conjunctival squamous cell carcinoma treated with epidermal growth factor receptor inhibitors showed significant tumor size improvement after 7.5 months of follow-up. Among 7 cases treated with systemic immunotherapy, 5 cases (72%) had complete response (CR), 1 case (14%) showed partial response (PR), and 1 case (14%) had stable disease (SD) after 16 months. In the conjunctival melanoma group, among 18 cases treated with combined v-raf murine sarcoma viral oncogene homolog B1/mitogen-activated extracellular signal-regulated kinase inhibitors, 6 (33%) had CR, 5 (28%) had PR, 2 (11%) had SD, and 5 (28%) had progressive disease after 24.8 months of follow-up. Of 44 conjunctival melanoma cases treated with immunotherapy, 12 (28%) had CR, 9 (20%) had PR, 7(16%) had SD, and 16 (36%) had progressive disease after 14.2 months. Systemic Rituximab treatment for conjunctival lymphoma cases resulted in CR in 21 patients (63%), PR in 11 patients (33%), and SD in 1 patient (3%) after 20.5 months of follow-up. Intralesional Rituximab injections in 38 conjunctival lymphoma cases showed CR in 28 patients (75%), PR in 7 patients (19%), SD in 1 patient (2%), and progressive disease in 2 patients (4%) after 20.4 months of follow-up., Conclusions: Despite limited clinical case reports and short-term follow-ups, targeted therapy and immunotherapy have shown promising results for advanced malignant conjunctival tumors., Competing Interests: The authors have no financial or conflicts of interest to disclose., (Copyright © 2023 The American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Inc.)

Background: The relationship between vitamin D and cognitive status remains controversial. We aimed to evaluate the effect of vitamin D replacement on cognitive functions in healthy and cognitively intact vitamin D deficient older females., Methods: This study was designed as a prospective interventional study. A total of 30 female adults aged ≥60 with a serum 25 (OH) vitamin D level of <10 ng/ml were included. Participants were administered 50 000 IU vitamin D3 weekly for 8 weeks followed by a maintenance therapy of 1000 U/day. Detailed neuropsychological assessment was performed prior to vitamin D replacement and repeated at 6 months by the same psychologist., Results: Mean age was 63 ± 6.7 years and baseline vitamin D level was 7.8 ± 2.0 (range: 3.5-10.3) ng/ml. At 6 months, vitamin D level was 32.5 ± 3.4 (32.2-55) ng/ml. The Judgement of Line Orientation Test (P = 0.04), inaccurate word memorizing of the Verbal Memory Processes Test (P = 0.02), perseveration scores of the Verbal Memory Processes Test (P = 0.005), topographical accuracy of the Warrington Recognition Memory Test (P = 0.002), and the spontaneous self-correction of an error in the Boston Naming Test (P = 0.003) scores increased significantly, while the delayed recall score in the Verbal Memory Processes Test (P = 0.03), incorrect naming of words in the Boston Naming Test (P = 0.04), interference time of the Stroop Test (P = 0.05), and spontaneous corrections of the Stroop Test (P = 0.02) scores decreased significantly from baseline., Conclusion: Vitamin D replacement has a positive effect on cognitive domains related to visuospatial, executive, and memory processing functions., (© 2023 Japanese Psychogeriatric Society.)

Objective or Purpose: To describe sterile endophthalmitis following intravitreal rituximab (Rituxan, Genentech) injection for treatment of vitreoretinal lymphoma (VRL)., Design: Retrospective case series., Subjects, Participants, And/or Controls: Medical records of biopsy-proven VRL patients who received intravitreal rituximab (RTX) between January 2011 and December 2021 in Kellogg Eye Center, University of Michigan were reviewed. 3 patients presented with sterile endophthalmitis after the second dose of intravitreal RTX were included. Methods, Intervention, or Testing: Intravitreal methotrexate (400µg/0.1ml) and rituximab (1mg/0.1ml) injections given a week apart, monthly. Main Outcome Measures: Clinical presentation and response to treatment including visual acuity, degree of inflammation and intraocular pressure ., Results: All cases had bilateral disease and received the first dose of intravitreal RTX without any side effects. All cases developed bilateral corneal edema with Descemet's folds, mutton-fat keratic precipitates, anterior chamber and vitreous cells with hazy fundus view approximately within 1 week after the second RTX injection. Intraocular pressures were increased in Cases 2 and 3. Clinical findings improved to baseline with topical corticosteroid therapy within 1 month in all cases, and additional topical antiglaucomatous medication in Cases 2 and 3. Additionally, Case 1 received the third dose of RTX injection to the right eye 1 month after the second injection and repeating dense anterior chamber and vitreous cells developed in 1 day. Her vision decreased to counting fingers from 20/40, and intraocular pressure increased. After topical steroids and antiglaucomatous medications, her intraocular inflammation subsided. Her vision improved to 20/30, and intraocular pressure became normal in the right eye., Conclusions: To our knowledge, this is the first case series documenting sterile endophthalmitis following intravitreal rituximab in vitreoretinal lymphoma. Recognition of sterile endophthalmitis is important in differentiating from vitreoretinal lymphoma recurrence and infectious endophthalmitis. Close observation and topical steroid drops seem to be effective.

Objectives: This study investigated differences in trabecular structure and mandibular cortical thickness in adults related to vertical facial type (VFT), sex, and their interactions., Study Design: Lateral cephalometric radiographs (LCRs) and panoramic radiographs (PRs) of 256 patients were reviewed. The VFT classification into low-angle, normal, and high-angle groups was determined using angular and linear measurements on LCRs. Fractal dimension (FD) values and mandibular radiomorphometric indices (RMIs) were calculated on PRs., Results: Two-way analysis of variance revealed significant differences in FD overall among VFT groups in all sites (P < .001), with pairwise comparisons indicating the greatest values in the high-angle group in the condyle (P < .05) but in the low-angle group elsewhere (P < .001). RMIs were significantly different overall regarding VFT only in the posterior mandible (P = .004), with pairwise comparisons revealing low-angle and normal group values greater than high-angle group values (P < .05). Patient sex and the interaction of facial type and sex had no significant effect on any bone measurements., Conclusions: VFT had significant effects on trabecular structure at all measured sites, but cortical thickness was affected only in 1 location., (Copyright © 2022 Elsevier Inc. Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate visual quality after high-frequency transepithelial photorefractive keratectomy (t-PRK) by assessing the relationship between the operational parameters and the first-year postoperative corneal higher-order aberrations (HOAs)., Methods: This was a retrospective study of low-to-moderate myopic eyes treated with t-PRK. The files of 46 low-to-moderate myopic patients (90 eyes; myopia up to -5D) were included in the study. Eyes having a cylindrical refractive error more than 2D and the patients not having completed a 1-year follow-up were excluded from the study. Factors including age, preoperative mean spherical equivalent (MSE), mean keratometry (Km), central corneal thickness (CCT), scotopic pupil, optical zone (OZ), transition zone (TZ), ablation zone (AZ), central ablation depth (CAD), and static cyclotorsion correction (SCC) were analyzed for association with the first-year postoperative corneal HOAs., Results: Corneal HOAs were found to be increased postoperatively with a 6-mm pupil (P < 0.05). The increased spherical aberration had a positive correlation with patient age, preoperative MSE, Km, TZ, and CAD, whereas it had a negative relationship with OZ and AZ (P < 0.05). The corneal coma had a significantly positive correlation with preoperative MSE and a significantly negative relationship with OZ (P < .05)., Conclusion: Postoperatively induced corneal HOAs may affect patients' scotopic vision (night time driving, cinema) when the pupils get larger. The relationship between patient age, preoperative MSE, Km, CAD, TZ, OZ, AZ, and postoperative corneal HOAs underlines the need to consider the effects of these parameters on the final vision quality., Competing Interests: None

Objectives: Neuroimaging studies report altered resting-state functional connectivity in attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) across multiple brain systems. However, there is inconsistency among individual studies., Methods: We meta-analyzed seed-based resting state studies of ADHD connectivity within and between four established resting state brain networks (default mode, cognitive control, salience, affective/motivational) using Multilevel Kernel Density Analysis method., Results: Twenty studies with 944 ADHD patients and 1121 controls were included in the analysis. Compared to controls, ADHD was associated with disrupted within-default mode network (DMN) connectivity - reduced in the core (i.e. posterior cingulate cortex seed) but elevated in the dorsal medial prefrontal cortex sub-system (i.e. temporal pole-inferior frontal gyrus). Connectivity was elevated between nodes in the cognitive control system. When the analysis was restricted to children and adolescents, additional reduced connectivity was detected between DMN and cognitive control and affective/motivational and salience networks., Conclusions: Our data are consistent with the hypothesis that paediatric ADHD is a DMN-dysconnectivity disorder with reduced connectivity both within the core DMN sub-system and between that system and a broad set of nodes in systems involved in cognition and motivation.

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is the most common neurodevelopmental disorder and is characterized by symptoms of inattention and/or hyperactivity and impulsivity. In the current study, we obtained quantitative EEG (QEEG) recordings of 51 children aged between 6 and 12 years before the initiation of methylphenidate treatment. The relationship between changes in the scores of ADHD symptoms and initial QEEG features (power/power ratios values) were assessed. In addition, the children were classified as responder and nonresponder according to the ratio of their response to the medication (>25% improvement after medication). Logistic regression analyses were performed to analyze the accuracy of QEEG features for predicting responders. The findings indicate that patients with increased delta power at F8, theta power at Fz, F4, C3, Cz, T5, and gamma power at T6 and decreased beta powers at F8 and P3 showed more improvement in ADHD hyperactivity symptoms. In addition, increased delta/beta power ratio at F8 and theta/beta power ratio at F8, F3, Fz, F4, C3, Cz, P3, and T5 showed negative correlations with Conners' score difference of hyperactivity as well. This means, those with greater theta/beta and delta/beta powers showed more improvement in hyperactivity following medication. Theta power at Cz and T5 and theta/beta power ratios at C3, Cz, and T5 have significantly classified responders and nonresponders according to the logistic binary regression analysis. The results show that slow and fast oscillations may have predictive value for treatment response in ADHD. Future studies should seek for more sensitive biomarkers.

We report here ab initio calculated electronic transition dipole moments for the sodium dimer ion pair states of (1)Σg (+) symmetry. They vary strongly as a function of internuclear distance because of the effect of the Na(+) + Na(-) ion pair potential, which also causes the formation of additional wells and shoulders in the molecular potential energy curves. We also present a computational study of the transition dipole moment matrix elements and lifetimes for these ion-pair states.

Using perturbation facilitated infrared-infrared double resonance excitation of the (85)Rb(2) molecule, we have observed spectrally resolved fluorescence to the a (3)Sigma(u)(+) state. We have analyzed the rovibrational energy level structure of the (85)Rb(2) a (3)Sigma(u)(+) state and derived a multiparameter Morse Long Range (MLR) potential and molecular constants for this state, which can be used to predict term values without needing to solve the radial Schrödinger equation.
