Abstract

A novel type of calorimeter based on grains of inorganic scintillating crystal readout by wave length shifting fibers is proposed. The concept and main features as well as the prototype design are introduced and the first results obtained using cosmic rays are presented. The number of photo-electrons generated by cosmic rays muons in the prototype detector is estimated to be of the order of 10000 photo-electrons per GeV, validating the concept of this next-generation shashlik calorimeter., Comment: 11 pages, 7 figures

Abstract

A time projection chamber (TPC) with micropattern gaseous detector (MPGD) readout is investigated as main tracking device of the International Large Detector (ILD) concept at the planned International Linear Collider (ILC). A prototype TPC equipped with a triple gas electron multiplier (GEM) readout has been built and operated in an electron test beam. The TPC was placed in a 1 T solenoidal field at the DESY II Test Beam Facility, which provides an electron beam up to 6 GeV/c. The performance of the readout modules, in particular the spatial point resolution, is determined and compared to earlier tests. New studies are presented with first results on the separation of close-by tracks and the capability of the system to measure the specific energy loss dE/dx. This is complemented by a simulation study on the optimization of the readout granularity to improve particle identification by dE/dx., Comment: 29 pages, 30 figures, 6 tables. Abstract

Smith-Purcell radiation and Transition Radiation are two radiative phenomenon that occur in charged particles accelerators. For both the emission can be significantly enhanced with sufficiently short pulses and both can be used to measure the form factor of the pulse. We compare the yield of these phenomenon in different configurations and look at their application as bunch length monitors, including background filtering and rejection. Abstract

For the International Large Detector concept at the planned International Linear Collider, the use of time projection chambers (TPC) with micro-pattern gas detector readout as the main tracking detector is investigated. In this paper, results from a prototype TPC, placed in a 1 T solenoidal field and read out with three independent GEM-based readout modules, are reported. The TPC was exposed to a 6 GeV electron beam at the DESY II synchrotron. The efficiency for reconstructing hits, the measurement of the drift velocity, the space point resolution and the control of field inhomogeneities are presented., Comment: 22 pages, 19 figures

Abstract

Over the past several years various preequilibrium models for nuclear reaction mechanisms description were developed. Diversified detailed experimental data in the medium excitation energy region for nuclei are needed for reasonable selection among these theoretical models. Lack of experimental data in this energy region does essentially limit the possibilities for analysis and comparison of different preequilibrium theoretical models. For photonuclear reactions this energy range covers 30-100 MeV. Experimental measurements and estimations of isomer ratios for products of photonuclear reactions with multiple particle escape on antimony were performed using bremsstrahlung spectrum as projectile with end-point energies 74,9 and 85,7 MeV. Method of the induced activity measurement was applied. For acquisition of gamma spectra we used HPGe spectrometer with 20% relative efficiency. Linear accelerator of electrons LU-40 was a source of bremsstrahlung. Energy resolution of electron beam was about 1% and a mean electron current varied within (3.8 - 5.3)μA.

Insert your english abstract here.A new versatile facility LEETECH for detector R&D, tests and calibration is designed and constructed. It uses electrons produced by the photoinjector PHIL at LAL, Orsay and provides a powerful tool for wide range R&D studies of different detector concepts delivering “monochromatic” samples of low energy electrons with adjustable energy and intensity. Among other innovative instrumentation techniques, LEETECH will be used for testing various gaseous tracking detectors and studying new Micromegas/InGrid concept which has very promising characteristics of spatial resolution and can be a good candidate for particle tracking and identification. In this paper the importance and expected characteristics of such facility based on detailed simulation studies are addressed.

Abstract

A new detector capable of measuring the luminosity and beam conditions of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is proposed at the interaction point of the LHCb experiment. It will enable real time monitoring of beam parameters, which is of paramount importance in order to safely operate the LHC and its experiments in the beam conditions foreseen for Run 3, starting in 2021, and beyond, towards the High-Luminosity (HL) phase. The detector will provide both online and offline measurements with a feedback at the scale of a fraction of a second, to ensure a luminosity-leveling procedure and a real-time alarm to the LHC.

Abstract

Over the past several years various preequilibrium model approaches for nuclear reactions were developed. For photonuclear reactions this energy region extends between bremsstrahlung energies nearly 30–100 MeV. Experimental measurements and estimations of isomer ratios for products of photonuclear reactions with multiple particle escape on antimony have been performed using bremsstrahlung with end-point energies 38, 43 and 53 MeV. Method of induced activity measurement was applied. For acquisition of gamma spectra we used HPGe spectrometer with 20% efficiency and energy resolution 1.9 keV for 1332 keV gamma line of 60Co. Linear accelerator of electrons LU-40 was a source of bremsstrahlung. Energy resolution of electron beam was about 1% and mean current was within (3.8–5.3) μA.

Abstract

International audience; The International Large Detector, ILD, is a detector concept which has been developed for the electron-positron collider ILC. The detector has been optimized for precision physics in a range of energies between 90 GeV and 1 TeV. ILD features a high precision, large volume combined silicon and gaseous tracking system, together with a high granularity calorimeter, all inside a 3.5 T solenoidal magnetic field. The paradigm of particle flow has been the guiding principle of the design of ILD. In this document the required performance of the detector, the proposed implementation and the readiness of the different technologies needed for the implementation are discussed. This is done in the framework of the ILC collider proposal, now under consideration in Japan, and includes site specific aspects needed to build and operate the detector at the proposed ILC site in Japan.

Abstract

In this paper, we present experimental and numerical studies of the signals from the Poisson-like distributions resulting from electrons incident on a diamond sensor placed near the exit of the PHIL photoinjector facility at LAL. The experiments were performed at the newly commissioned Low Energy Electron TECHnology (LEETECH) platform at PHIL. Bunches of 10x9 electrons are first generated and accelerated to 3.5 MeV by PHIL. The electrons are then filtered in LEETECH by a system of collimators, using a dipole magnet for momentum selection. The diamond sensor is located immediately after the output collimator to collect electrons in the range 2.5-3 MeV. We show that with standard scCVD diamonds of 500 micrometers thickness, the energy losses from the first three MIP (minimum ionizing particle) electrons are clearly resolved. We did not observe distinguishable peaks in cases when a significant fraction of the incident electrons had energies below a MIP. The described technique can be used as complementary approach for calibration of diamond detectors as well as to diagnose and help control accelerated beams in a regime down to a few particles., Proceedings of the 7th Int. Abstract

(2016)., For the International Large Detector concept at the planned International Linear Collider, the use of time projection chambers (TPC) with micro-pattern gas detector readout as the main tracking detector is investigated. In this paper, results from a prototype TPC, placed in a 1 T solenoidal field and read out with three independent GEM-based readout modules, are reported. The TPC was exposed to a 6 GeV electron beam at the DESY II synchrotron. The efficiency for reconstructing hits, the measurement of the drift velocity, the space point resolution and the control of field inhomogeneities are presented.

Abstract

Over the past several years various preequilibrium model approaches for nuclear reactions were developed. Diversified detailed experimental data in the medium excitation energy region for nucleus are needed for reasonable selection among these theoretical models. Lack of experimental data in this energy region does essentially limit the possibilities for analysis and comparison of different preequilibrium theoretical models. For photonuclear reactions this energy region extends between bremsstrahlung energies nearly 30-100MeV. Experimental measurements and estimations of isomer ratios for products of photonuclear reactions with multiple particle escape on antimony have been performed using bremsstrahlung with end-point energies 38, 43 and 53MeV. Method of induced activity measurement was applied. For acquisition of gamma spectra we used HPGe spectrometer with 20% efficiency and energy resolution 1.9 keV for 1332 keV gamma line of 60Co. Linear accelerator of electrons LU-40 was a source of bremsstrahlung. Energy resolution of electron beam was about 1% and mean current was within (3.8-5.3) μA. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

21. PETAG01 : A Program for the Direct Simulation of a Pellet Target

Abstract

We describe a numerical model of an internal pellet target to study the beam dynamics in storage rings, where the nuclear experiments with such type of target are planned. In this model the Monte Carlo algorithm is applied to evaluate the particle coordinates and momentum deviation depending on time and parameters of the target. One has to mention that due to statistical character of the pellet distribution in the target the analytical techniques are not applicable. This is also true for the particle distribution in the stored beam, which is influenced by various effects (such as a cooling process, intra-beam scattering, betatron oscillation, space charge effect). In this case only the Monte Carlo technique to model energy straggling in combination with the pellet distribution in the target should be considered. Abstract

The ILD detector is proposed for an electron-positron collider with collision centre-of-mass energies from 90~\GeV~to about 1~\TeV. It has been developed over the last 10 years by an international team of scientists with the goal to design and eventually propose a fully integrated detector, primarily for the International Linear Collider, ILC. In this report the fundamental ideas and concepts behind the ILD detector are discussed and the technologies needed for the realisation of the detector are reviewed. The document starts with a short review of the science goals of the ILC, and how the goals can be achieved today with the detector technologies at hand. After a discussion of the ILC and the environment in which the experiment will take place, the detector is described in more detail, including the status of the development of the technologies foreseen for each subdetector. The integration of the different sub-systems into an integrated detector is discussed, as is the interface between the detector and the collider. This is followed by a concise summary of the benchmarking which has been performed in order to find an optimal balance between performance and cost. To the end the costing methodology used by ILD is presented, and an updated cost estimate for the detector is presented. The report closes with a summary of the current status and of planned future actions.

It will enable real time monitoring of beam parameters, which is of paramount importance in order to safely operate the LHC and its experiments in the beam conditions foreseen for Run 3, starting in 2021, and beyond, towards the High-Luminosity (HL) phase. The detector will provide both online and offline measurements with a feedback at the scale of a fraction of a second, to ensure a luminosity-leveling procedure and a real-time alarm to the LHC.
