7. Analysis of Two Different Suturing Methods in Laparoscopic Pyeloplasty

Abstract

Background: Ureteropelvic junction (UPJ) obstruction is the most common congenital anomaly of the urinary tract (1 in 20,00 live births). Laparoscopic pyeloplasty has equivalent success rates with open pyeloplasty. We prospectively analysed techniques of transperitoneal laparoscopic dismembered pyeloplasty and compared clinical outcome between two groups using two different suturing methods (continuous and interrupted). Material and Methods: After obtaining ethical clearance from Institutional Ethical Committee, the present prospective study was conducted on 33 patients over the period of two years in the Post-Graduate Department of General Surgery in a tertiary care hospital. Results: In our study the commonly involved age group was 20-29 years. (57.58%) in both interrupted as well as in continuous group and mean age for continuous and interrupted suturing was 26.23 ± 6.961 and 27.50 ± 6.619 respectively with male predominance. The mean duration of suturing, mean duration of surgery, mean duration of drain, mean drain output, and Hospital stay in continuous group are 72.74 ± 3.194 min, 203.75 ± 12.457 min, 2.26 ± 0.452 days, 13.42 ± 4.730 ml, and 3.26 ± 0.452 days respectively and in interrupted group are 94.14 ± 3.505 min, 234.50 ± 10.761 min, 4.43 ± 0.646 days, 40.93 ± 7.043 ml and 5.43 ± 0.646 days respectively. Urine leak was the only postoperative complication occurring in (3.03%) in interrupted group. The total success rate in our study was 100% with no postoperative anastomotic re-stricture during the follow-up. Conclusion: Continuous suturing may be preferred to interrupted suturing for ureteropelvic anastomosis in patients undergoing laparoscopic pyeloplasty with comparable results and good intraoperative and postoperative parameters.

Abstract

The yield and quality of field pea are directly influenced by inoculation of Rhizobium and PSB with NPK, which increase various parameters, such as the yield and quality of field pea. This research was conducted during the Rabi season in 2022-2023 at Lovely Professional University in the Punjab region of India. The yields of pea grain and stover are greatly increased by the use of 100% RDF (the recommended dose of fertilizer) with PSB and Rhizobium. In addition to the combination of Rhizobium, PSB and NPK increased the harvest index of field pea. The protein content and number of nodules were strongly affected by this treatment, which was more beneficial than the other treatments. Overall, the net return was greater in T7 (100% RDF+ PSB + Rhizobium). In addition, in comparison with the other treatments, available nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium also had positive effects on T7.

Abstract

Due to increased demand, labor costs, and water scarcity, farmers look for an alternative way of rice cultivation under prevailing conventional transplanting. Direct‐seeded Oryza sativaand system of rice intensification (SRI) have been developed as superior substitutes to transplanting. However, if weeds are not controlled properly, the direct seeding method faces serious weed infestation and yield losses. In this context, a field study was undertaken during kharifgrowing seasons to evaluate the growth and yield of O. sativaunder various crop establishment methods and weed management practices. The results revealed that system of rice intensification (SRI) method of crop establishment significantly produced taller plants, higher dry matter accumulation, a greater number of tillers per meter square, highest leaf area index, yield attributes, namely, panicle density, panicle length, and grains per panicle, and higher grain and straw yield over direct seeded rice (DSR) and transplanted O. sativa. Among the various weed management practices, penoxsulam produced significantly higher grain and straw yield. The results demonstrated that average grain yield increase with SRI was reported to be 24.11% and 23.62% over DSR and 10.47% and 12.23% over transplanted O. sativa. Among various establishment techniques, lower weed density and dry weed biomass were achieved by transplanting O. sativa. Penoxsulam herbicides significantly reduced the weed density and dry weed biomass but penoxsulam herbicide demonstrated significantly the maximum reduction in number of weeds per meter square and dry weed biomass and proved superior against complex weed flora. Agriculture plays a vital role in global food production, encompassing the cultivation of crops, raising livestock, and the management of agricultural resources.Establishment methods in agriculture refer to the techniques and practices used to initiate and establish crops or livestock in a productive and sustainable manner.Growth and weed management practices in agriculture involve strategies and approaches aimed at promoting healthy crop growth while effectively controlling and minimizing the impact of weeds, which can compete with crops for resources and reduce yields.

Abstract

The field experiment was conducted during Kharif season of 2020 at Agronomy farm of Faculty of Agriculture, Wadura, SKUAST-K to study the influence of age of seedling and sources of nutrients on phenology, yield and agrometeorological indices for sweet corn. The experiment included two factors viz. age of seedlings (12, 22 and 32 days old seedling) and sources of nutrients (control, RDF, 50 percent RDF + FYM @ 12 t ha−1, 50 percent RDF + vermi-compost @ 4 t ha−1 and 50 percent RDF + poultry manure @ 2 t ha−1) tested in RCBD with three replications. Transplanting 12 days old seedlings required maximum number of days to attain different phenological stages, thereby accumulated maximum heat units followed by 22 days old seedlings. While as transplanting 22 days old seedling recorded significantly highest HUE, HTUE, PTUE and HyTUE and consequently resulted in the highest green cob and biological yield compared to other ages of seedlings. Among various sources of nutrients, application of 50 per cent RDF + poultry manure @ 2 t ha−1 took maximum number of days to attain various phenophases thereby accumulated maximum heat units and registered highest HUE, HTUE, PTUE and HyTUE followed by application of 100 per cent RDF.

Abstract

This study is on the bean aphid Aphis fabae Scopoli, whitefly Bemisia tabaci (Genn.), bean weevil Conapium sp. indet., flea beetle Altica himensis Shukla which are found associated as pests at different phenological stages of the common bean Phaseolus vulgaris L. Of these A. fabae, B. tabaci and Conapium sp. indet. were categorized as major pests as they caused significant damage. The incidence of these pests showed a peak on the 35th standard meteorological week (SMW) in all the three locations studied. The peak incidence at Bandipora was 11.80± 0.66, 3.10± 0.58 and 1.20± 0.08, respectively; at Baramulla, the peak was 10.40± 0.62, 3.40± 0.13 and 1.30± 0.07, respectively; and at Kupwara, it was varying as 12.60± 0.69, 3.40± 0.13 and 1.30± 0.07 for the three pests, respectively. Abstract

The present study was aimed at scrutinizing various fungicides, plant extracts and bio-agents under in vitro against Phoma exiguacausing Ascochyta blight, one of the important foliar fungal diseases of common bean (Phaseolus vulgarisL.). Among the contact and combi fungicides tested in vitro,chlorothalonil 75 WP proved to be the most effective followed by mancozeb + carbendazim (63% + 12% WP) showing 83.2 per cent and 80.7 per cent mean mycelial growth inhibition of Phoma exiguarespectively. Among the various systemic fungicides difenaconazole 25 EC proved to be best followed by carbendazim 50 WP and hexaconazole 5 EC showed 93.2 per cent, 90.4 per cent and 84.7 per cent mean mycelial growth inhibition, respectively. Among various plant extracts garlic clove (Allium sativum) extract @ 10 per cent proved best with 78.0 per cent mycelial growth inhibition over control. Among bio-agents, Trichoderma harzianumwas proved as best with 78.40 per cent mycelial growth inhibition.

The effect of various insecticides on the larval incidence of pod borer Helicoverpa armigera in soybean revealed that indoxacarb 14.5SC (69.44%) followed by imidacloprid 17.8SL (62.65%), cypermethrin 10EC (58.06%), profenophos 50EC (54.05%), quinalphos 25EC (48.83%) and neem oil (40.59%) led to maximum reduction. Their effect on the yield of soybean revealed that the maximum yield was with indoxacarb 14.5EC (19.19) followed by others. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
