Abstract Background Catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTI) are among the most frequent healthcare-associated infections in the world. They are associated with increased mortality, prolonged hospital stay and increased healthcare costs. The objective of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of the noble metal alloy (NMA) coated BIP Foley Catheter in preventing the incidence of symptomatic CAUTI in a large cohort of patients in India. Methods This multi-center, prospective study included 1000 adult patients admitted to six hospitals across India for urology, surgery and ICU requiring urethral catheterization and admission for ≥ 48 h. Patients were allocated to the NMA-coated BIP Foley Catheter group or a non-coated control catheter group, with a randomization ratio of 3:1. CAUTI surveillance was conducted at study entry, upon catheter removal, and 2 days after catheter removal. For statistical analysis, categorical data (e.g. gender) were compared using the chi-square or Fischer test, and numerical data were compared using the two-sample t-test. Associations were evaluated using logistic regression. Rubus cooperi D.G. Long, R. polyodontus Hand.-Mazz., R. quinquefoliolatus T.T. Yu & L.T. Lu, are reported first time from India. Rubus cooperi is characterized by the palmate stipules with lacinate margins. Rubus polyodontus shows some morphological closeness with other prostrate species of sect. Chamaebatus Focke, viz. R. calycinus Wall.ex D. Don, R. pectinaris Focke and R. pectinellus Maxim., but differs in having pink petals and acute to obtuse leaf apex. Rubus quinquefoliolatus can be easily recognized by its subsessile leaflets, hairs along veins on both surfaces and solitary terminal flowers which are always emarged from new shoots. The article offers information on the identification of appendicula cornuta bl. orchidaceae species in Meghalaya, India, which was first described by Blume in 1825. It states that the species have tufted medium sized epiphytic herb and roots that are in filiform. It adds that the leaves are many and is measured as 1.5-2.8 by 0.7-1.2 centimeter (cm). It also says that appendicula cornuta is rarely found in the wild and grows in branches of medium sized trees in tropical forests.

Pternopetalum arunachalense M. Bhaumik. P. Satyanar. is. new species from Arunachal Pradesh in India and is described and illustrated here. This new species is similar to P. trichomanifolium (Franch.) Hand.-Mazz. by highly dissected, ternate 2-4-pinnate leaves, ultimate segments linear and erect elongate styles but differs by generally smaller habit and scabrid mericarps with 1-2 vittae in each furrow and commissure.
