Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to investigate organizational information technology (IT) deployment from a dual decision-making perspective. This study builds on rational choice theory to characterize how the costs and values of incumbent IT and those of the corresponding new cloud computing influence a company's dual decision of discontinuance and acceptance. Design/methodology/approach: This study chooses cloud computing as the research context, since it is one of the most well-accepted ITs in current practice. By using survey methodology, the data were collected from organizations around the world. Our hypotheses were examined via multimethod analyses, including the partial least squares, the multinomial log it regression and the analysis of variance. Findings: This research reveals that organizations often follow the dual decision-making process in IT deployment regarding a non-cloud, hybrid structure and full-cloud considers incumbent IT discontinuance and new cloud computing acceptance. These results indicate that organizations may embrace cloud computing because of its perceived high system compatibility and low support costs. Meanwhile, security threats remain the primary obstacles to conducting business in the cloud. Originality/value: Previous studies mainly focus on a single aspect and do not reveal the intricacies of the interactions between the reduction of incumbent IT and the addition of new IT. To address this gap in the body of knowledge, our study proposes a dual decision model based on a dialectical understanding of new and incumbent IT mechanisms instead of a singular IT acceptance model. Introduction:In online medical-consulting platforms, physicians answer medical questions and share health care knowledge with patients, which will bring them both economic returns and social returns. Little research has studied the free online medical-consulting services (FOMCS) and their influences on the performance of patients. Methods:An OLS specification-regression model with robust standard errors clustered at the physician level based on panel data in physician-month level, including 48,406 physicians in 4,452 hospitals in 139 months (August 2006–December 2017) from the largest online health care platform in China. Results:We find that FOMCS positively affects the performance of a physician. Specifically, we found that the 1% increase of FOMCS would help physicians receive an additional 3.1% paid consulting services and an 11.4% increase in income. In addition, this effect is enhanced for physicians due to a high pricing strategy and weakened for physicians with high platform-usage experience and professional titles. Conclusion:We provide evidence on the effect of FOMCS of physicians on their performance and explore this heterogeneous effect in three kinds of mechanisms: pricing of online medical-consulting services, usage experience of online health care platform, and the professional title of a physician. FOMCS can help quality physicians show their skilled abilities to potential patients to attract their business, make up for the lack of usage experience in online health care platforms, and provide an alternative way to build physicians' online reputations. Bicycle-metro integration is theoretically considered to be an effective solution for improving public transportation efficiency of "last mile" between home and metro station in cities. However, this proposition has not been fully proved in practice. In recent years, the emerging dockless bike-sharing system makes it possible to examine the spatial integration between flexible bicycle traffic and rail transit. This study mapped the bicycle traffic on an equal population cartogram of Shanghai to distinguish overall patterns within the center of Shanghai. The research result indicates the sharing bike usage frequency from metro station to outlying area is gradual declining, which demonstrates that bicycle-metro integration has already become the basic model for daily transport in Shanghai. Usage-based insurance (UBI) has been attracting more and more attention; however, two open research questions are how behavioral data of drivers affects driving risk and how driver behavior should affect UBI pricing schemas. This paper proposes a driver risk classification model to evaluate the risk level of drivers based on in-car sensor data. A Behavior-centric Vehicle Insurance Pricing model (BVIP) and a vehicle premium calculation prototype are developed in this paper. Based on empirical data, our research results show that BVIP achieves better accuracy in terms of risk-level classification and the prototype achieves good performance in terms of effectiveness and usability. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to unpack the antecedents and consequences of clickbait prevalence in online media at two different levels, namely, (1) Headline-level: what characteristics of clickbait headlines attract user clicks and (2) Publisher-level: what happens to publishers who create clickbait on a prolonged basis. Design/methodology/approach: To test the proposed conjectures, the authors collected longitudinal data in collaboration with a leading company that operates more than 500 WeChat official accounts in China. This study proposed a text mining framework to extract and quantify clickbait rhetorical features (i.e. hyperbole, insinuation, puzzle, and visual rhetoric). Econometric analysis was employed for empirical validation. Findings: The findings revealed that (1) hyperbole, insinuation, and visual rhetoric entice users to click the baited headlines, (2) there is an inverted U-shaped relationship between the number of clickbait headlines posted by a publisher and its visit traffic, and (3) this non-linear relationship is moderated by the publisher's age. Research limitations/implications: This research contributes to current literature on clickbait detection and clickbait consequences. Future studies can design more sophisticated methods for extracting rhetorical characteristics and implement in different languages. Practical implications: The findings could aid online media publishers to design attractive headlines and develop clickbait strategies to avoid user churn, and help managers enact appropriate regulations and policies to control clickbait prevalence. The growth of personalized demands requires socialized resources to timely self-organize themselves with crowd intelligence for co-creating open architecture products. This social manufacturing paradigm drives an increased demand for makers to track the authenticity and quality of products. A new decentralized blockchain-driven model, named Makerchain, is presented to handle the cyber-credit of social manufacturing among various makers. An anti-counterfeiting method composed of chemical signature is proposed to represent unique features of personalized products. Twinning unique signature data to blockchain and other functional databases is realized and anticipated to make manufacturing service transactions among makers more trustworthy. Based on an automated execution mechanism of smart contracts among makers, a decentralized manufacturing network can be enabled for automating transactions among makers, as well as third-party verification of product lifecycle through a trail of historic events. A Makerchain Decentralized Application (DApp) is presented to demonstrate the proposed approach through which clustered makers can self-organizing themselves around personalized demands.
