While it is known that Hamiltonian systems may undergo a phenomenon of condensation akin to Bose-Einstein condensation, not all the manifestations of this phenomenon have been uncovered yet. In this work we present a novel form of condensation in conservative Hamiltonian systems that stands out due to its evolution through highly coherent states. The result is based on a deterministic approach to obtain exact explicit solutions representing the dynamical formation of condensates in finite time. We reveal a dual-cascade behavior during the process, featuring inverse and direct transfer of conserved quantities across the spectrum. The direct cascade yields the excitation of arbitrarily high modes in finite time, being associated with the formation of a small-scale coherent structure. We identify a class of trapping potentials in cubic nonlinear Schr\"{o}dinger equations (NLSEs) that make them non-integrable, but prevent the emergence of power spectra associated with ergodicity. The potentials are characterized by equidistant energy spectra (e.g., the harmonic-oscillator trap), which give rise to a large number of resonances enhancing the nonlinearity. In a broad range of dynamical solutions, spanning the regimes in which the nonlinearity may be either weak or strong in comparison with the linear part of the NLSE, the power spectra are shaped as narrow (quasi-discrete) evenly spaced spikes, unlike generic truly continuous (ergodic) spectra. We develop an analytical explanation for the emergence of these spectral features in the case of weak nonlinearity. In the strongly nonlinear regime, the presence of such structures is tracked numerically by performing simulations with random initial conditions. Some potentials that prevent ergodicity in this manner are of direct relevance to Bose-Einstein condensates: they naturally appear in 1D, 2D and 3D Gross-Pitaevskii equations (GPEs), the quintic version of these equations, and a two-component GPE system., Comment: accepted for publication in Phys. Cosmological acceleration is difficult to accommodate in theories of fundamental interactions involving supergravity and superstrings. An alternative is that the acceleration is not universal but happens in a large localized region, which is possible in theories admitting regular black holes with de Sitter-like interiors. We considerably strengthen this scenario by placing it in a global anti-de Sitter background, where the formation of 'de Sitter bubbles' will be enhanced by mechanisms analogous to the Bizon-Rostworowski instability in general relativity. This opens an arena for discussing the production of multiple accelerating universes from anti-de Sitter fluctuations. We consider the long-term weakly nonlinear evolution governed by the two-dimensional nonlinear Schr\"{o}dinger (NLS) equation with an isotropic harmonic oscillator potential. The dynamics in this regime is dominated by resonant interactions between quartets of linear normal modes, accurately captured by the corresponding resonant Hamiltonian system. In the framework of this system, we identify Fermi-Pasta-Ulam-like recurrence phenomena, whereby the normal-mode spectrum passes in close proximity of the initial configuration, and two-mode states with time-independent mode amplitude spectra that translate into long-lived breathers of the original NLS equation. This paper addresses the construction and the stability of self-similar solutions to the isentropic compressible Euler equations. These solutions model a gas that implodes isotropically, ending in a singularity formation in finite time. The existence of smooth solutions that vanish at infinity and do not have vacuum regions was recently proved and, in this paper, we provide the first construction of such smooth profiles, the first characterization of their spectrum of radial perturbations as well as some endpoints of unstable directions. The cubic Szego equation has been studied as an integrable model for deterministic turbulence, starting with the foundational work of Gerard and Grellier. We introduce a truncated version of this equation, wherein a majority of the Fourier mode couplings are eliminated while the signature features of the model are preserved, namely, a Lax-pair structure and a nested hierarchy of finite-dimensional dynamically invariant manifolds. Despite the impoverished structure of the interactions, the turbulent behaviors of our new equation are stronger in an appropriate sense than for the original cubic Szego equation. We construct explicit analytic solutions displaying exponential growth of Sobolev norms. We furthermore introduce a family of models that interpolate between our truncated system and the original cubic Szego equation, along with a few other related deformations. All of these models possess Lax pairs, invariant manifolds, and display a variety of turbulent cascades. Weakly nonlinear energy transfer between normal modes of strongly resonant PDEs is captured by the corresponding effective resonant systems. In a previous article, we have constructed a large class of such resonant systems (with specific representatives related to the physics of Bose-Einstein condensates and Anti-de Sitter spacetime) that admit special analytic solutions and an extra conserved quantity. Here, we develop and explore a complex plane representation for these systems modelled on the related cubic Szego and LLL equations. To demonstrate the power of this representation, we use it to give simple closed form expressions for families of stationary states bifurcating from all individual modes. The conservation laws, the complex plane representation and the stationary states admit furthermore a natural generalization from cubic to quintic nonlinearity. We demonstrate how two concrete quintic PDEs of mathematical physics fit into this framework, and thus directly benefit from the analytic structures we present: the quintic nonlinear Schroedinger equation in a one-dimensional harmonic trap, studied in relation to Bose-Einstein condensates, and the quintic conformally invariant wave equation on a two-sphere, which is of interest for AdS/CFT-correspondence., Comment: v2: version accepted for publication

This work addresses the response of a holographic conformal field theory to a homogeneous gravitational periodic driving. The dual geometry is the AdS-soliton, which models a strongly coupled quantum system in a gapped phase, on a compact domain. The response is a time-periodic geometry up to a driving amplitude threshold which decreases with the driving frequency. Beyond that, collapse to a black hole occurs, signaling decoherence and thermalization in the dual theory. At some frequencies, we also find a resonant coupling to the gravitational normal modes of the AdS-soliton, yielding a nonlinearly bound state. Recent studies of the weakly nonlinear dynamics of probe fields in global AdS$_4$ (and of the nonrelativistic limit of AdS resulting in the Gross-Pitaevskii equation) have revealed a number of cases with exact dynamical returns for two-mode initial data. In this paper, we address the question whether similar exact returns are present in the weakly nonlinear dynamics of gravitationally backreacting perturbations in global AdS$_4$. In the literature, approximate returns were first pointed out numerically and with limited precision. We first provide a thorough numerical analysis and discover returns that are so accurate that it would be tantalizing to sign off the small imperfections as an artifact of numerics. To clarify the situation, we introduce a systematic analytic approach by focusing on solutions with spectra localized around one of the two lowest modes. This allows us to demonstrate that in the gravitational case the returns are not exact. Furthermore, our analysis predicts and explains specific integer numbers of direct-reverse cascade sequences that result in particularly accurate energy returns (elaborate hierarchies of more and less precise returns arise if one waits for appropriate longer multiple periods in this manner). Weakly nonlinear analysis of resonant PDEs in recent literature has generated a number of resonant systems for slow evolution of the normal mode amplitudes that possess remarkable properties. Despite being infinite-dimensional Hamiltonian systems with cubic nonlinearities in the equations of motion, these resonant systems admit special analytic solutions, which furthermore display periodic perfect energy returns to the initial configurations. Here, we construct a very large class of resonant systems that shares these properties that have so far been seen in specific examples emerging from a few standard equations of mathematical physics (the Gross-Pitaevskii equation, nonlinear wave equations in Anti-de Sitter spacetime). We consider the two-dimensional Gross-Pitaevskii equation describing a Bose-Einstein condensate in an isotropic harmonic trap. In the small coupling regime, this equation is accurately approximated over long times by the corresponding nonlinear resonant system whose structure is determined by the fully resonant spectrum of the linearized problem. We focus on two types of consistent truncations of this resonant system: first, to sets of modes of fixed angular momentum, and second, to excited Landau levels. Each of these truncations admits a set of explicit analytic solutions with initial conditions parametrized by three complex numbers. Viewed in position space, the fixed angular momentum solutions describe modulated oscillations of dark rings, while the excited Landau level solutions describe modulated precession of small arrays of vortices and antivortices. We study periodically driven scalar fields and the resulting geometries with global AdS asymptotics. These solutions describe the strongly coupled dynamics of dual finite-size quantum systems under a periodic driving which we interpret as Floquet condensates. They span a continuous two-parameter space that extends the linearized solutions on AdS. We map the regions of stability in the solution space. In a significant portion of the unstable subspace, two very different endpoints are reached depending upon the sign of the perturbation. Collapse into a black hole occurs for one sign. For the opposite sign instead one attains a regular solution with periodic modulation. We also construct quenches where the driving frequency and amplitude are continuously varied. Quasistatic quenches can interpolate between pure AdS and sourced solutions with time periodic vev. By suitably choosing the quasistatic path one can obtain boson stars dual to Floquet condensates at zero driving field. We characterize the adiabaticity of the quenching processes. The Lowest Landau Level (LLL) equation emerges as an accurate approximation for a class of dynamical regimes of Bose-Einstein Condensates (BEC) in two-dimensional isotropic harmonic traps in the limit of weak interactions. Building on recent developments in the field of spatially confined extended Hamiltonian systems, we find a fully nonlinear solution of this equation representing periodically modulated precession of a single vortex. Motions of this type have been previously seen in numerical simulations and experiments at moderately weak coupling. Our work provides the first controlled analytic prediction for trajectories of a single vortex, suggests new targets for experiments, and opens up the prospect of finding analytic multi-vortex solutions., Comment: v2: minor improvements, published in PRA

We numerically investigate spherically symmetric collapses in the Gross-Pitaevskii equation with attractive nonlinearity in a harmonic potential. Even below threshold for direct collapse, the wave function bounces off from the origin and may eventually become singular after a number of oscilla- tions in the trapping potential. This is reminiscent of the evolution of Einstein gravity sourced by a scalar field in Anti-de Sitter space where collapse corresponds to black hole formation. We carefully examine the long time evolution of the wave function for continuous families of initial states in order to sharpen out this qualitative coincidence which may bring new insights in both directions. On one hand, we comment on possible implications for the so-called Bosenova collapses in cold atom Bose-Einstein condensates.
