Dieser Band dokumentiert die Tagung „Zur Kritik der exegetischen Vernunft“, die anlässlich des 65. Geburtstages von Prof. Dr. Jürgen van Oorschot im Mai 2022 in Erlangen stattfand. Der Band beschäftigt sich mit der methodischen Vielfalt im Kontext alttestamentlicher Wissenschaft. Der erste Teil behandelt die Methodik der Exegese selbst und kommt zu dem Schluss, dass Exegese in den 2020er Jahren theologisch, radikal historisch und damit radikal kanonisch sein muss. Der zweite Teil des Bandes nimmt die grundlegende Bedeutung von Geschichte und Mythos im alttestamentlichen Schrifttum in den Blick, um an drei Beispielen den vernünftigen Umgang mit beiden in (religions-)philosophischen Debatten zu demonstrieren. Mit vier Beispielen eines materialen oder methodischen Cross-Overs zeigt der dritte Teil auf, wie sinnvoll mit der Herausforderung des methodisch kontrollierten Anachronismus und methodischer Hybridität umgegangen werden kann. Der Band schließt mit dem Entwurf einer hermeneutischen Praxistheorie, die Exegese als durchsichtiges und offenes Spiel praktiziert.

Die Bibel als ›Wort Gottes‹ ist einerseits zentrale Offenbarungsschrift des Christentums und Judentums, andererseits ist sie ein historisches Buch, das Geschichten uns teilweise fremd gewordener Kulturen vermittelt. Dieses Spannungsverhältnis von überzeitlicher Geltung und historischer Bedingtheit schlägt sich im jeweiligen Umgang mit der Bibel nieder. Mit dem Begriff der ›Transformation‹ beschreiben die Beiträge des Sammelbandes solche Prozesse des spannungsvollen und produktiven Umgangs mit der Bibel in verschiedensten Epochen und Kulturen. Dabei erweist sich die Bibel als ein Gegenstand, der uns in seinen verschiedenen Inszenierungsformen – in den verschiedensten medialen Zuständen – immer schon als ›transformierter‹ zu begegnen scheint.

Wie funktioniert Verstehen? Die Grundfrage der Hermeneutik als Wissenschaftsdisziplin konfrontiert eine Theologie, die nicht nur innerhalb eigener Mauern relevant sein will, sondern öffentlich zu Herausforderungen einer komplexen Wirklichkeit Stellung bezieht, zwangsläufig mit der Frage, auf welchem Fundament sie steht und wie sie angesichts der Pluralität biblischer Traditionen Kriterien des Verstehens benennen und Orientierung geben kann. Dreizehn Beiträge widmen sich fundamentaltheologischen sowie konkreten materialethischen Themen und beleuchten deren hermeneutische Dimensionen.

The second half of the 20th century witnessed unprecedented enthusiasm for inner-Christian ecumenical dialogue as well as Christian-Jewish dialogue. However, at the time of the transition from the 20th to the 21st century the dialogues were marked by disillusionment and disappointment due to the fact that not enough progress was experienced with regard to concrete everyday issues. Moreover theoretical points of disagreement remained obstacles for a real mutual understanding, the major ones being the interpretation of certain Biblical passages (esp. John 14:6 and 15:26) and their implications for Christology and the theology of the Trinity. This book explores'new hermeneutics for renewed dialogues.'To use a metaphor found in the book, the contributions of this volume are suggesting'new songs'with regard to the dialogues by proposing a future-oriented hermeneutics and a shift from an exclusive focus on Christology to including Pneumatology and thus the doctrine of the Trinity. By so doing the authors and editors intend to offer a new impetus and a new elan in Roman Catholic-Eastern Orthodox as well as Christian-Jewish dialogues. The co-authors of this book contribute pneumatological hermeneutical insights from their respective Protestant, (Christian) Orthodox, Roman Catholic and Jewish perspectives.

Im Gespräch zwischen Juden, Christen und Muslimen stößt man über kurz oder lang auf die Frage nach dem Verständnis der „Heiligen Schrift“. Diese Frage hat Brisanz, geht es doch mit ihr um das, was in diesen Religionen verbindlich gelten soll, und darum, ob und wie aus der Quelle der jeweiligen Schrift Orientierungen für die Anforderungen der Gegenwart gewonnen werden können. Nicht zuletzt im Religionsunterricht spielt deshalb die Auslegung von Tora, Bibel und Koran eine herausragende Rolle und gerade die Auslegung der Schrift der „Anderen“ ist für jüdische, christliche und muslimische Religionslehrende eine große Herausforderung. Hier geben sowohl Fachleute der Schriftauslegung als auch Religionspädagoginnen und -pädagogen Auskunft. Der Band verdeutlicht, dass jede der drei Religionen vielfältige Wege der Schriftauslegung kennt und damit faszinierende Zugänge zu deren reichem Erbe erschlossen werden können.

In Clement's Biblical Exegesis scholars from six countries explore various facets of Clement of Alexandria's hermeneutical theory and his exegetical practice. Although research on Clement has tended to emphasize his use of philosophical sources, Clement was important not only as a Christian philosopher, but also as a pioneer Christian exegete. His works constitute a crucial link in the tradition of Alexandrian exegesis, but his biblical exegesis has received much less attention than that of Philo or Origen. Topics discussed include how Clement's methods of allegorical interpretation compare with those of Philo, Origen, and pagan exegetes of Homer, and his readings of particular texts such as Proverbs, the Sermon on the Mount, John 1, 1 John, and the Pauline letters.

2007 marked the 60th anniversary of the discovery of the first Dead Sea Scrolls. The 11th International Orion Symposium (January, 2007), “New Approaches to the Study of Biblical Interpretation in the Second Temple Period and in Early Christianity,” provided a measure of the ways in which the discovery of the scrolls has altered the paradigms for textual and historical studies in the intervening six decades. The papers in this volume address such issues as the connections and distinctions between Jewish interpretation within the Land of Israel and outside of it; between Jewish and Christian exegesis in earlier and later periods; between biblical interpretation in literature and in art; between interpretation and the formation of the biblical canon.

Der Text der Bibel ist bedeutsam und strittig zugleich. Die Zugänge zur Bibel sind in Theologie, Philosophie, Literatur und Kirche sehr verschieden. Die Konflikte über die Deutung der biblischen Texte sind in diesen selbst angelegt. Methode und Geist markieren zwei Pole, die in Theologie und Kirche und darüber hinaus im Raum der Kultur den Umgang mit der Bibel bestimmen. Diese aktuellen Kontroversen werden in den Beiträgen, die auf die 14. Jahrestagung der Rudolf-Bultmann-Gesellschaft zurückgehen, diskutiert.

Bibel und Ethik - von der Sache her hängen sie eng zusammen: Erlösungsbotschaft und Fragen einer gerechten Gesellschaft lassen sich nicht voneinander trennen. Dennoch ist die Rolle der Bibel in der Ethik seit Jahrzehnten ein Streitthema im wissenschaftlichen Diskurs: Welche ethische Relevanz haben biblische Texte in einer der Vernunft verpflichteten Ethik? Was tragen sie zum Verstehen des lebensweltlichen sittlichen Anspruchs bei? Kann man sie als Quelle von Normen heranziehen? Mit welcher Autorität, Legitimität, Normativität'operieren'biblische Texte? Sind sie vernünftiger Einsicht zugänglich und universal vermittelbar? Angesichts der aktuellen Umbrüche in den Bibelwissenschaften und der Neubestimmung der ethischen Grundlagen im globalen Kontext erhält der spannende interdisziplinäre Diskurs neue Impulse.

Ziel des vorliegenden Sammelbandes, der die gleichnamige internationale Tagung (2009) am Krupp-Kolleg in Greifswald dokumentiert, ist die Formulierung neuer Perspektiven'Biblischer Theologien'vor dem Hintergrund bereits vorliegender Ergebnisse. Ausgangspunkte bieten die ersten Summen aus den jeweiligen theologischen Disziplinen: Altes bzw. Neues Testament und Systematische Theologie. Von hier aus behandeln die Einzelbeiträge verschiedene Fragestellungen, die sowohl Kontroversen als auch die Fundamente und Perspektiven auf Quellen jenseits des Kanons berücksichtigen. Die aus unterschiedlichen theologischen Disziplinen beigesteuerten Zugänge werden so in ein interdisziplinäres Gespräch zwischen Exegese und Systematik eingebunden und eröffnen einen nahezu enzyklopädisch-theologischen Blick auf das Thema'Biblische Theologie'. Zudem ergeben sich Leitlinien einer internationalen und generationenübergreifenden Diskussion, da sowohl etablierte und anerkannte Wissenschaftler als auch Nachwuchsforscher aus Deutschland, England, den Niederlanden, Schottland, Schweden und den USA beteiligt sind. Die Autorinnen und Autoren befassen sich mit paradigmatischen Zugängen über Quellen und konkrete Fragestellungen, aber auch mit hermeneutischen Einschätzungen und übergreifenden Themen in der aktuellen Diskussion. Schwerpunkte markieren, neben einer Psaltertheologie, Fragen der Rezeption biblischer Themen und Texte, der Gültigkeit und kerygmatischen Programmatik gesamtbiblischer Ansätze und insbesondere die Kontroversen zwischen den europäischen, vor allem deutschsprachigen, und nordamerikanischen Diskussionslagen zum Thema. Among the theological loci pneumatology is one of the most stimulating, exciting, and difficult topics to study; it is also one of the most rewarding. The identity and mission of the Holy Spirit is pervasive throughout Scripture and the Great Tradition, and within contemporary Christianity it is one of the most popular topics currently being explored. Here ten scholars present twelve essays spanning biblical, hermeneutical, theological, and practical disciplines. The result is not an evangelical pneumatology in systematic fashion, nor is it a comprehensive theology of the Holy Spirit. Rather, this volume presents explorations in pneumatology from a variety of evangelical scholars working in varying contexts (mostly the South Pacific basin) but each wrestling equally with what the Spirit of Truth is saying to the churches today. This is a work of outstanding scholarship with essays by Canadian theologian Gary Badcock and a cast of established and emerging Kiwi-or New Zealand-theologians, which gives the work a unique contextual flavor alongside its ecumenical and evangelical commitment.

Renewing Biblical Interpretation is the first of eight volumes from the Scripture and Hermeneutics Seminar. This annual gathering of Christian scholars from various disciplines was established in 1998 and aims to re-assess the discipline of biblical studies from the foundation up and forge creative new ways for re-opening the Bible in our cultures. Including a retrospective on the consultation by Walter Brueggemann, the contributors to Renewing Biblical Interpretation consider three elements in approaching the Bible—the historical, the literary and the theological—and the underlying philosophical issues that shape the way we think about literature and history.
