Bench scale flotations were carried out to investigate an alternative collector reagent with a more sustainable bias, with selective action at the mineral interface to replace the standard hydrocarbon-base collector used for graphite's flotation, the kerosene. A soy bio oil was produced by a transesterification reaction to perform as a collector. The study used graphite ore with 5.85% carbon content obtained from Salto da Divisa/MG region, in Bahia-Minas Province, Brazil. The design of experiments showed that the bio ester performed 11% higher than kerosene as a graphite's collector, improving the flotation's selectivity with 62% ore grade by bio oil and 88% recovery, against 54% ore grade using kerosene and 77% recovery. The chemical composition investigated with XPS analysis for both concentrates with kerosene and bio ester demonstrated the influence of esters and oxigenated-groups on oxidized graphite surfaces. Geopolymers are amorphous silicate polymers that have been extensively studied due to their applications, scientific and technical relevance, and their potential as cement in substitution to Portland. Much of the focus has been in the use of precursors and aggregates that are rarely pure and homogeneous with the use of tailings being very common. The presence of these impurities complicates the interpretation of some spectral methods, mainly infrared spectrometry. Therefore, this research focuses on the use of a nearly pure kaolin main precursor, having only a trace of iron and titanium, along with other almost pure reagents, to achieve an ideal geopolymer. It was possible to produce metakaolinite, resulting in a material with a good size particle (8.24µm) and surface specific area (6.57m2/g). The XRD result shows that the calcination process resulted in 100% of amorphous material. FTIR data revealed the presence of H2O and NaCO3 in the geopolymer. More important, the Si-Al-O various bands located between 1100 and 500cm-1 validate the polymerization reaction effectiveness. SEM-EDS analyses have demonstrated that the reaction with Na2SiO3 and NaOH were nearly complete, concerning the finer metakaolinite particles that comprised the material's matrix. However, the coarser metakaolinite lamellae, in the 15-35µm range, did not react completely; a thin border layer was enriched with sodium and most of the interior material maintained its Si-Al-O composition. The presence of traces of iron and titanium did not influence in the polymerization reaction. Compressive strength values of the geopolymer have presented good values in the range of 25 to 35 MPa. The mining sector has a fundamental financial and economical role in the country where it practices these activities. In addition to employment creation and socialcultural development, the mining sector brings economic growth to the country. However, the sector is facing challenges due to COVID-19, incidents involving tailings dam facilities, rising energy costs, low grade ore deposits, restrictions in mining regulations and access to the available resources. Currently sensor-based sorting (SBS) is well known and applied worldwide in the food, recycling, grain separation industries, and processing of metals, such as diamond, gold, platinum, and feldspar. In the mining industry, ore sorting technology can result in significant improvement in ore quality by removing gangue, uplifting grades, reducing cost reduction and recovering minerals. In this article, we discuss the ore sorting test work and modeled cost-benefit analysis (CBA) for refractory gold ore at Córrego do Sítio Mineração, based on the test results and operating parameters.
