The extensive health-promoting effects of Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium (CRP) have attracted researchers' interest. The difference in storage time, varieties and origin of CRP are closely related to the content of bioactive compounds they contain. The consitituent transformation mediated by environmental microorganisms (bacteria and fungi) and the production of new bioactive components during the storage process may be the main reason for 'the older, the better' of CRP. In addition, the gap in price between different varieties can be as large as 8 times, while the difference due to age can even reach 20 times, making the 'marketing young-CRP as old-CRP and counterfeiting origin' flood the entire market, seriously harming consumers' interests. However, so far, the research on CRP is relatively decentralized. In particular, a summary of the microbial transformation and authenticity identification of CRP has not been reported. Therefore, this review systematically summarized the recent advances on the main bioactive compounds, the major biological activities, the microbial transformation process, the structure, and content changes of the active substances during the transformation process, and authenticity identification of CRP. AbstractPlantaginis Semen (PS) are the dried mature seeds of Plantago asiatica L. or Plantagodepressa Willd. in the Plantago family. Its polysaccharides are important components of PS. Response surface methodology was used to optimize the ultrasonic-assisted deep eutectic solvent (DES) extraction process of PS polysaccharides (PSP). The results showed that the optimal extraction parameters were a solid-liquid ratio of 1:35 g/mL, an extraction time of 73 min, and a molar ratio of 2:1. The yield of PSP was 0.64% and 1.20% by water immersion and ultrasonic water extraction, respectively, indicating that the DES extraction method (2.21 ± 0.06%) is superior to these two methods, and the optimization effect is good. Through the α-glucosidase and α-amylase inhibition activities experiment, it was found that the IC50 values of PSPs-1 were 1122 and 220.5 μg/mL. DPPH·and ABTS+ scavenging activity experiments showed that the IC50 values of PSPs-1 were 19.2 and 4.3 μg/mL, respectively. Its molar ratio of monosaccharide composition is rhamnose: galactose: galacturonic acid: glucose: glucuronic acid: arabinose: mannose: xylose = 33.6:13.3:6.5:3:2.6:2:1.4:1. Six Corsican essential oils (EOs) from Humulus lupulus were studied for their activity against Varroa destructor adults and Apis mellifera pupae. The GC/MS analysis of EOs showed that the major compounds of all accessions were α-Humulene, Myrcene, α-Selinene, β-Selinene, (E)-β-Farnesene, and (E)-β-Caryophyllene. Bioassays showed that EOs from each accession acted as toxins and repellents against V. destructor adults, with lower toxicity towards A. mellifera pupae. In terms of efficacy against V. destructor adults, Smaragd 2020 oil displayed the highest performance, with LC50 and LC90 values of 2.33 and 7.83 µL/L air, respectively. Meanwhile, Smaragd 2019 and Tettnanger EOs showed moderate toxicity, with LC50 values of 3.101 and 3.66 µL/L air, along with LC90 values of 11.67 and 19.89µL/L air, respectively. The oils from Biguglia and Ajaccio were strongly repellent to Varroa adults. At the lowest concentration (2 µL/mL), these EOs exhibited percentage of repellence greater than 70% after 2h exposure, with RC50 values of 1.66 and 1.26 µL/L air, respectively. Concerning their insecticidal effects, EOs demonstrate reduced toxicity towards bee pupae when compared to Varroa mites. Tiger nut (Cyperus esculentus L.) is a small, tuberous root vegetable that has gained increasing attention in recent years due to its potential health benefits. This review article provides an elaborate overview of tiger nut, including its botany, historical uses, nutritional composition, potential health benefits and traditional medicinal uses. This review article comprehensively discusses the nutritional profile of tiger nut, providing a detailed understanding of its nutrient content. Furthermore, the potential health benefits of tiger nut are thoroughly reviewed, including its effects on digestive health, cardiovascular health, blood sugar control, immune function and other potential therapeutic uses. Scientific articles used for this review were retrieved from ScienceDirect, Google Scholar, PubMed and SciELO databases. Only articles published between 1997 and 2022 were used for research. Green nanotechnology has gained significant attention recently in a variety of industries. Its focus is on producing nanoparticles (NPs) of a small size. It is also less harmful to human health and the environment. In Pakistan, Heliotropium eichwaldi (HE), a herbaceous plant, is extensively found. Many therapeutic qualities have been reported for the genus Heliotropium. The herb has been traditionally used to treat ulcers, headaches, and earaches. The purpose of this work is to create a simple and reliable process for the synthesis of Ag/Au bimetallic NPs (Ag-Au NPs) using HE extracts. After that, the effects of Ag-Au NPs will be examined, including their ability to scavenge free radicals and inhibit the two enzymes, acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and alpha-amylase (α-amylase). The Ag-Au NPs were characterized using FT-IR, XRD, EDX, SEM, and UV–visible spectroscopy. The Ag, Au, and Ag-Au bimetallic NPs underwent XRD analysis, which showed a face-centered cubic crystal structure with an average size of 6 nm. Ag-Au NPs exhibit rod-shaped morphologies, according to SEM. Of the Ag-Au NPs, the elemental Ag signal was 4.20% and the elemental Au signal was 26.65%. The Ag-Au NPs showed remarkable inhibitory activity against AChE, α-amylase, and free radicals. According to our research, Ag-Au NPs can be successfully generated and go on to become important antioxidant, antidiabetic, and anti-Alzheimer agent compounds. Pyrimidine-based compounds, a group of heterocyclic compounds, exhibit a range of biological and pharmacological activities. They can be synthesized through various methods, including condensation, cyclization, and cross-coupling reactions. Notably, Suzuki and Sonogashira reactions are commonly employed in cross-coupling to incorporate aryl and alkynyl groups into the pyrimidine core. These reactions, catalyzed by palladium and copper complexes, are known for their high efficiency, selectivity, and mild reaction conditions. In this review article, we will discuss the recent advancements in pyrimidine-based compound derivative synthesis using Sonogashira and Suzuki coupling reactions. We will focus on the following aspects: 1. the general principles and mechanisms of Sonogashira and Suzuki coupling reactions; 2. the synthesis of different classes of pyrimidine-based compound derivatives using Sonogashira and Suzuki coupling reactions; 3. the biological activities and pharmacological properties of pyrimidine-based compound derivatives synthesized by Sonogashira and Suzuki coupling reactions. The objective of this review is to identify the bioactive compounds present in tropical fruits such as Tamarindus indica L., Annona muricata, Mangifera indica, and Psidium guajava and their biological activities. The identification of these compounds shows their potential as a food ingredient in the development of products, providing added value to them, because not only the pulp of the fruit is used, but also the shell and its other parts, such as the leaves, are used, being viable sources to obtain some compounds that benefit human health. Implementing fruits that have certain bioactive compounds such as carotenoids (β-carotene, α-carotene, lutein, zeaxanthin and β-cryptoxanthin), antioxidants (vitamins A and C), and phenolic compounds (ellagic acid, gallic acid, citric acid) in the production process in the food industry, allows them to become functional foodstuffs. As a result of the changes occurring globally in recent years, millions of people are facing challenging and even life-threatening diseases such as cancer and the COVID-19 pandemic, among others. This phenomenon has spurred researchers towards developing and implementing innovative and environmentally friendly scientific methods, merging disciplines with significant technological potential, such as nanotechnology with medicinal plants. Therefore, the focus of this research is to synthesize zinc nanoparticles (ZnO-NPs) and microflowers (ZnO-MFs) using extracts of the medicinal plant I. oculus christi prepared in n-hexane and methanol as new bioreduction and capping agents through a simple and environmentally friendly chemical approach. Optical, thermal, and morphological structural analyses of ZnO-NPs and ZnO-MFs were conducted using Ultraviolet–Visible (UV–Vis) spectroscopy, Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA), and Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FE-SEM). Metabolic profiles of extracts from different plant parts were analyzed using Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC–MS) and supported by visualization of contents through Principal Component Analysis (PCA), hierarchical cluster analysis heatmaps, and Pearson correlation graphs. Interestingly, ZnO-NPs and ZnO-MFs exhibited strong antioxidant properties and demonstrated particularly potent antimicrobial activity against Micrococcus luteus NRRL B-4375, Escherichia coli ATCC 25922, and Candida albicans ATCC 10231 strains compared to standard antibiotics. Furthermore, ZnO-NPs and ZnO-MFs showed excellent plasmid DNA-cleavage activity of pBR322 with increasing doses. The photocatalytic performance of the synthesized ZnO-NPs and ZnO-MFs was evaluated for methylene blue (MB), congo red (CR), and safranin-O (SO) dyes, demonstrating remarkable color removal efficiency. Overall, the results provide a promising avenue for the green synthesis of ZnO-NPs and ZnO-MFs using I. oculus-christi L. inflorescence and pappus extracts, potentially revolutionizing biopharmaceutical and catalytic applications in these fields. Sinensetin is among the most ubiquitous polyphenols in citrus fruit and recently has been extensively studied for its ability to prevent or treat diseases. The current literature on the bioavailability of sinensetin and its derivatives was reviewed and the potential ameliorative effects of metabolic syndrome in humans were evaluated. Sinensetin and its derivatives mainly aggregated in the large intestine and extensively metabolized through gut microbiota (GM) and the liver. So intestinal microorganisms had a significant influence on the absorption and metabolism of sinensetin. Interestingly, not only GM acted on sinensetin to metabolize them, but sinensetin also regulated the composition of GM. Thus, sinensetin was metabolized as methyl, glucuronide and sulfate metabolites in the blood and urine. Furthermore, sinensetin was reported to have the beneficial effect of ameliorating metabolic syndromes, including disorders of lipid metabolism (obesity, NAFLD, atherosclerosis), glucose metabolism disorder (insulin resistant) and inflammation, in terms of improving the composition of intestinal flora and modulating metabolic pathway factors in relevant tissues. The present work strongly elucidated the potential mechanism of sinensetin in improving metabolic disorders and supported the contribution of sinensetin to health benefits, thus offering a better perspective in understanding the role played by sinensetin in human health. ABSTRACT Coupling the diazonium salt of sulfadiazine with dibenzoylmethane afforded the 4‐(2‐(1,3‐dioxo‐1,3‐diphenylpropan‐2‐ylidene)hydrazinyl)‐N‐(pyrimidin‐2‐yl)benzene sulfonamide ligand (HL). The ligand (HL) and its Cu(II) complex structure have been investigated via magnetic attraction testing, TGA, FTIR, UV–visible, XRD, and CHN analyses. The spectrum data indicate that the ligand demonstrates monobasic bidentate behavior via deprotonating opposite the oxygen atom of the carbonyl (CO) group and linking using the NH of the hydrazone group (NNH). Copper (II) complex present in octahedral structure. A number of TGA steps (Ea, A, ΔH*, ΔS*, and ΔG*) had their dynamical characteristics computed and described using the Coats–Redfern and Horowitz–Metzger formulas. Molecular studio programmer was utilized to perform density functional theory (DFT) calculations in order to investigate the ideal configuration of HL and its Cu(II) complex. The HL and its copper (II) complex exhibited antitumor effects against MCF‐7 and HepG‐2 cell lines. Furthermore, the width of the inhibition zone was employed to evaluate the in vitro antibacterial effect of HL and a specific complex towards Gram‐negative organisms Escherichia coli (E. coli) and Gram‐positive organisms Staphylococcus aureus. Cannabinoids represent a highly researched group of plant-derived ingredients. The substantial investment of funds from state and commercial sources has facilitated a significant increase in knowledge about these ingredients. Cannabinoids can be classified into three principal categories: plant-derived phytocannabinoids, synthetic cannabinoids and endogenous cannabinoids, along with the enzymes responsible for their synthesis and degradation. All of these compounds interact biologically with type 1 (CB1) and/or type 2 (CB2) cannabinoid receptors. A substantial body of evidence from in vitro and in vivo studies has demonstrated that cannabinoids and inhibitors of endocannabinoid degradation possess anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antitumour and antifibrotic properties with beneficial effects. This review, which spans the period from 1940 to 2024, offers an overview of the potential therapeutic applications of natural and synthetic cannabinoids. Introduction: The buds of Lonicera japonica Thunb. var. chinensis (Wats.) Bak, commonly named red honeysuckle, have attracted attention because of their bright colors. However, owing to the lack of systematic studies, the potential applications of red honeysuckle are not clear, and its development and utilization have not been well known. Methods: In this study, compared with the buds of L. japonica Thunb. (honeysuckle), the potential applications of red honeysuckle were explored based on biological activities, bio-active components, and sensory flavor combined with widely targeted metabolomics. Results: As a result, in vitro tests showed that it had a stronger antioxidant and a stronger inhibitory effect on the growth of Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. There was no cytotoxicity on LPS-induced RAW264.7 cells in its aqueous extract using the CCK-8 method. Moreover, it also had a stronger effect on inhibiting the expression of inflammatory factors such as interleukin-6 (IL-6), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), and interleukin-1β (IL-1β). The content of its bio-active components chlorogenic acid and cynaroside was significantly higher (p ≤ 0.001) than that of green honeysuckle. Widely targeted metabolomics analysis revealed that 4 volatile metabolites, such as (E)-4-hexene-1-ol and pyrazole, and 21 non-volatile metabolites, such as macranthoside B and oleanolic acid-3-O-glc(1-2)-(ara)-28-O-glucoside ester, were specific in red honeysuckle. Interestingly, 14 specific terpenoid metabolites were triterpenoid saponins, indicating a stronger biological activity in red honeysuckle. The sensory flavor analysis showed that the red honeysuckle had a stronger herbal and lighter floral flavor. A new series of 6‐methoxy‐2‐naphthalene based pyrimidinones were synthesized via one pot‐three component synthetic reaction of aryl aldehydes, 6‐methoxy‐2‐acetonapthone and urea in the presence of nano zinc ferrite catalyst under conventional method. The synthesized compounds were characterized by their spectral techniques including FT‐IR, H1, C13 NMR, LCMS, and analysis of elements. Molecular docking analysis was also performed to identify the protein‐ligand interactions and binding energy of synthesized compounds. A high-salt diet poses potential risks to human health. The current use of sodium substitutes in the food industry often results in a reduction in the organoleptic quality of food. γ-Glutamyl peptides are small-molecule peptides containing γ-glutamyl residues, which significantly contribute to the kokumi taste in foods. These peptides exhibit a synergistic effect when consumed with sodium salt, thereby enhancing the perception of saltiness and aiding in the prevention of various cardiovascular diseases associated with excessive salt intake. γ-Glutamyl peptides have garnered considerable attention from researchers for their role in eliciting kokumi taste and inducing various biological activities through the activation of the calcium-sensing receptor (CaSR). This paper provides a comprehensive review of dietary sources, efficient preparations, taste-enhancing properties, taste evaluation methods, and potential biological activities of γ-glutamyl peptides. Lavandula dentata produces a wide range of products, essential oils (EO) and bioactive molecules, extensively used for their various cosmetic and medicinal properties. However, in Morocco, L. dentata has been classified among vulnerable species experiencing a noticeable decline due to several biotic and abiotic stresses. This study aims to better understand the relationship between the ability of L. dentata, to produce bioactive molecules and pedoclimatic conditions. The study was carried out in two semi-arid regions: Asni (altitude: 1400 m) and Had Draa (altitude: 120 m). The results showed that the pedoclimatic conditions did not affect significantly the natural mycorrhization of Lavender expressed in terms of mycorrhizal frequency and colonization intensity. However, the mycorrhizal potential of the soil was 3 to 4 times higher in Asni than in Had Draa. Asni pedoclimatic conditions favored higher EO yield (14 μL/g DM) which was 2 times higher than in Had Draa. However, EO of Had Draa exhibited greater effectiveness in terms of antimicrobial, and herbicidal activities. While the EO of Had Draa was characterized by a high abundance of endo-borneol (36%) and fenchol (20%), the EO chemical profile of the EO of Asni showed high abundance of camphor (28%) and terpinene-4-ol (12%). Taken together, the findings pointed out that the pedoclimatic conditions prevailing in Asni such as high altitude, high precipitation, low nutrient levels, and low organic matter could improve the mycorrhizal potential of the soil, increase L. dentata EO yield, but have a negative impact on its biological activities. Since ancient times, humans have turned to medicinal plants for treating various ailments and curing specific diseases, as these natural plants serve as the primary source of a range of phytochemicals, including triterpenes. Maslinic acid (MA), also known as (2α,3β)-2,3-dihydroxyolean-12-en-28-oic acid, is a pentacyclic triterpene acid present in numerous plants including olive, known for its high safety profile in humans. Recent experimental data increasingly suggests that MA exhibits diverse biological properties and therapeutic effects on various organ diseases, highlighting its significant potential for clinical applications due to its diverse potential pharmacological activities that promote health and resist various diseases, such as hypoglycemic, neuroprotective, anti-tumor, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and multiple other biological activities. However, the undesirable pharmacokinetic properties of MA, such as high lipophilicity, pose a limitation to its application and development, impacting its bioavailability. Consequently, extensive research spanning decades has focused on structurally modifying MA to overcome these limitations and enhance its pharmacokinetic and therapeutic characteristics, leading to the identification of several potential lead compounds. In this review, we focus on the progress of research in recent years on MA with interest to its chemical and enzymatic modifications as well as the relationships between the modified structures or derivatives and their biological activities. Simple Summary: The protein α-zein from corn has been studied both in vivo and in vitro for its potential to target treatments for non-communicable chronic diseases. This biological activity is achieved through the hydrolysis of the protein, which produces bioactive peptides. The study involved scientific research and a literature review to gather evidence of the biological activity of corn peptides. Additionally, databases and bioinformatics tools were utilized to simulate the enzymatic digestion of α-zein and confirm the bioactivity of the resulting peptides. The study discovered that the primary bioactivity is the inhibition of ACE, followed by the inhibition of DPP-IV and DPP-III, which are targets for treating hypertension and type-2 diabetes. In conclusion, conducting an in silico evaluation before proceeding to in vitro or in vivo studies can be efficient and cost-effective and contribute to better usage of corn gluten meals. Studies have shown that corn (Zea mays L.) proteins, mainly α-zein, have the potential to act on therapeutic targets related to non-communicable chronic diseases, such as high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes. Enzymatic hydrolysis of proteins present in foods can result in a great diversity of peptides with different structures and possible bioactivities. A review of recent scientific research papers was performed to show evidence of the bioactive properties of corn peptides by in vitro assays. The α-zein amino acid sequences were identified in the UniProtKB protein database and then analyzed in the BIOPEP database to simulate enzymatic digestion and verify the potential biological action of the resulting peptides. The peptides found in the BIOPEP database were categorized according to the probability of presenting biological action using the PeptideRanker database. The aim was to use existing data to identify in silico the potential for obtaining biologically active peptides from α-zein, the main storage protein of corn. The analysis showed that the majority of peptide fragments were related to the inhibition of angiotensin-converting enzyme, followed by the inhibition of dipeptidyl peptidase IV and dipeptidyl peptidase III. Many drugs used to treat high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes work by inhibiting these enzymes, suggesting that corn peptides could be potential alternative agents. In vitro studies found that the primary bioactivity observed was antioxidative action. Both in vitro and in silico approaches are valuable for evaluating the bioactive properties resulting from protein hydrolysis, such as those found in α-zein. Caffeic acid (CA) is a polyphenolic acid compound widely distributed in plant seeds. As natural compounds with high research interest, caffeic acid and its derivatives show good activity in the treatment of tumors and inflammation and have antibacterial properties. In recent years, caffeic acid derivatives have been studied extensively, and these derivatives fall roughly into three categories: (1) caffeic acid ester derivatives, (2) caffeic acid amide derivatives, (3) caffeic acid hybrids. These caffeic acid analogues exert mainly antibacterial and antioxidant activities. Among the caffeic acid analogues summarized in this paper, compounds 1g and CAP10 have good activity against Candida albicans, and their MIC50 is 32 µg/mL and 13 μM, respectively. In a DPPH assay, compounds 3k, 5a, CS2, Phellinsin A and 8j showed strong antioxidant activity, and their IC50 values are 18.6 μM, 67.85 μM, 40.29 μM, 0.29 ± 0.004 mM, 4774.37 ± 137.20 μM, respectively. Overall, compound CAP10 had the best antibacterial activity and compound 3k had the best antioxidant activity. Phenazine natural products are a class of colored nitrogen-containing heterocycles produced by various microorganisms mainly originating from marine and terrestrial sources. The tricyclic ring molecules show various chemical structures and the decorating groups dedicate extensive pharmacological activities, including antimicrobial, anticancer, antiparasitic, anti-inflammatory, and insecticidal. These secondary metabolites provide natural materials for screening and developing medicinal compounds in the field of medicine and agriculture due to biological activities. The review presents a systematic summary of the literature on natural phenazines in the past decade, including over 150 compounds, such as hydroxylated, O-methylated, N-methylated, N-oxide, terpenoid, halogenated, glycosylated phenazines, saphenic acid derivatives, and other phenazine derivatives, along with their characterized antimicrobial and anticancer activities. Sprouts, as an edible vegetable with rich nutrients and health care efficacy, have been increasingly favored by people in recent years. Plant hormones are intrinsic mediators of plant growth and development. The impacts of plant hormone treatment on the growth and quality of sprouts were summarized, and the potential mechanisms were briefly discussed. Moreover, this review explored prospective applications and investigations to promote the sprouts industry. Proper plant hormone treatment could promote the seed germination rate, hypocotyl growth, and fresh weight of sprouts. Meantime, appropriate plant hormone treatment could enhance the bioactive compound contents (such as total phenolic, pigments, and vitamins), antioxidant capacity, and anti-adipogenic and anti-diabetic activities of sprouts. Furthermore, hormones could delay the discoloration progress and promote the antioxidant capacity in sprouts, thus maintaining the postharvest quality. Although the impact of hormones on sprout quality is mainly dependent on the kind, dose, and treatment method of the hormone, the sprout species and cultivars, the growth phase, environmental factors, and others, plant hormone treatment is still a practical and prospective strategy in sprout industry to produce sprouts with enhanced growth and quality. Saffron "Crocus sativus" is a plant of the Iridaceae family. Its therapeutic virtues have been known since antiquity; it is used in traditional medicine and culinary preparations. It is also known for its use in cosmetics because of its beneficial pharmacological activities for human skin. In particular, saffron tepals are the main by-product of saffron processing; they contain several bioactive compounds such as mineral agents, anthocyanins, monoterpenoids, carotenoids, flavonoids, and flavonols (kaempferol). This review aims to describe the different properties of saffron flower tepals, including their botanical characteristics, phytochemical composition, biological activities, and cosmetology and perfumery uses. Nanoporous aluminum metal–organic framework (Al-MOF) was synthesized via solvothermal methods and employed as a carrier matrix for in vitro drug delivery of Umbelliferon (Um). The encapsulated Um was gradually released over seven days at 37 °C, using simulated body fluid phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) at pH 7.4 as the release medium. The drug release profile suggests the potential of Al-MOF nanoparticles as effective drug delivery carriers. Structural and chemical analyses of Um-loaded Al-MOF nanoparticles (Um-Al MOF) were conducted using Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, X-ray diffractometry (XRD), and ultraviolet–visible (UV–Vis) spectroscopy. Thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) was employed to investigate the thermal stability of the Al-MOF nanoparticles, while Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) was utilized to assess their morphological features. Um-Al MOF nanoparticles demonstrated notable antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties compared to Um and Al-MOF nanoparticles individually. Moreover, they exhibited significant enhancement in wound healing in an earthworm model. These findings underscore the potential of Al-MOF nanoparticles as a promising drug delivery system, necessitating further investigations to explore their clinical applicability. The pursuit of an improved quality of life is a major trend in the food market. This is driving the reformulation of the industry's product portfolio, with the aim of providing nourishment while also contributing to beneficial health metabolic processes. In this context, the use of local biodiversity and the recovery of the traditional knowledge associated with the consumption of vegetables that grow spontaneously in nature emerge as more sustainable and nutritionally adequate concepts. The Amazon region is known for its abundant biodiversity, housing numerous unconventional food plants whose nutritional and biological properties remain unknown due to a lack of research. Among the different species are Xanthosoma sagittifolium, Acmella oleracea, Talinum triangulare, Pereskia bleo, Bidens bipinnata, and Costus spiralis. These species contain bioactive compounds such as apigenin, syringic acid, spilanthol, and lutein, which provide various health benefits. There are few reports on the biological effects, nutritional composition, bioactive compounds, and market prospects for these species. Therefore, this review provides an overview of their nutritional contribution, bioactive compounds, health benefits, and current market, as well as the use of new technologies that can contribute to the development of functional products/ingredients derived from them. This study addresses the need for effective protein extraction and characterization to unlock the potential of underutilized plant resources like Brosimum alicastrum Swartz nuts, aiming to enhance their value as functional ingredients in food applications. Extraction methods, including pH modulation, ultrasound-assisted extraction, and enzymatic hydrolysis, are employed to enhance technofunctional and bioactive properties. The protein extracts are evaluated for solubility, emulsifying capacity, foaming properties, and water/oil-holding capacities to assess their technofunctional potential. Additionally, the bioactive properties, such as antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities, are analyzed to explore potential health benefits. The results demonstrate that integrated extraction techniques significantly improve the yield and quality of Brosimum alicastrum Swartz nut proteins. Enzymatic hydrolysis, in particular, produces hydrolysates with superior bioactive properties. Background: Nyctanthes arbor-tristis Linn. is a small, sacred ornamental tree used in prayer. It is renowned throughout India for its aromatic white blossoms. The entire plant was widely used for several health applications particularly root and bark were used to treat fever and cough, respectively. Also, the leaf was used for managing fever and diabetes, and its cholagogue, diaphoretic, and anthelmintic properties. Main text: The current review aimed to comprehensively analyze the botanical characteristics, phytochemistry, and pharmacology of N. arbor-tristis essential oil (NAEO) and extracts. Additionally, it wants to emphasize the latest advancements in phytochemistry and pharmacology related to this aromatic plant. Depending on the variety, origin, and plant parts used, the NAEO yield ranged from 0.002 to 0.10% on a dry basis. The NAEO has been investigated in only a few research studies and resulted, in the predominant levels of phytol and methyl palmitate chemical compounds. Furthermore, the NAEO was found to have significant volatile chemical constituents, including geranylgeraniol, phytoene, nonadecane, linalool, and various other miscellaneous chemical components. The plant extracts and NAEO have numerous biological properties, including antioxidant, antimicrobial, anticancer, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, larvicidal, and other miscellaneous activities. Conclusion: This paper analyzes and summarizes the diverse research potential associated with N. arbor-tristis. The results of the present study suggested that most of the biological and pharmacological investigations were carried out without including dosage, positive controls, and negative controls. Furthermore, several pharmacological investigations were exclusively carried out using cell lines and animal models. Objectives: This review highlights the current knowledge of polysaccharide from Lilii Bulbus, including the extraction, purification, structure, structure modification, biological activities and application, which will hopefully provide reference for further research and development of polysaccharide from Lilii Bulbus. Commonly known as wild pepper, Piper capense (P. capense) is a culinary herb mainly used as a secret in preparation of "Nkui" and "Nah poh" in Bayangam, West Cameroon. However, it also has many interesting pharmacological properties, which is why the people of sub-Saharan Africa so highly prize it for the treatment of multiple human pathologies. This study aimed to highlight the traditional uses, phytochemical composition, biological activities, and toxicological profile of the P. capense plant, to draw the attention of pharmaceutical companies to its enormous potential for the development of future phyto- or pharmaceutical products. Documentary research was meticulously carried out in the Web of Sciences, Scopus, Pubmed/Medline, and Google Scholar databases according to PRISMA 2020 guidelines. The results show that extracts and compounds isolated from Piper capense have interesting anticancer, antibacterial, antimalarial, hypoglycemic, anti-epileptic, and antidepressant activities. Methanolic extracts and essential oils from P. capense exhibit no harmful effects when directly applied to normal human hepatocytes, umbilical cord cells, intestinal cells, and keratinocyte cell lines. Additionally, methanolic extracts administered acutely or subchronically at low doses (≤250 mg/kg body weight) in Wistar rats also demonstrate no adverse effects. In conclusion, given its interesting activities, P. capense is a viable option for developing new antimalarial, anticancer, antibacterial, hypoglycemic, anti-epileptic, and antidepressant drugs. This research identified a marine fungal isolate, Aspergillus sp. strain GAD7, which produces an acidic and sulfated extracellular polysaccharide (EPS) with notable anticoagulant and antioxidant properties. Six fungal strains from the Egyptian Mediterranean Sea were screened for EPS production, with Aspergillus sp. strain GAD7 (EPS-AG7) being the most potent, yielding ~5.19 ± 0.017 g/L. EPS-AG7 was characterized using UV-Vis and FTIR analyses, revealing high carbohydrate (87.5%) and sulfate (24%) contents. HPLC and GC-MS analyses determined that EPS-AG7 is a heterogeneous acidic polysaccharide with an average molecular weight (M w ¯) of ~7.34 × 103 Da, composed of mannose, glucose, arabinose, galacturonic acid, galactose, and lyxose in a molar ratio of 6.6:3.9:1.8:1.3:1.1:1.0, linked through α- and β-glycosidic linkages as confirmed by NMR analysis. EPS-AG7 adopted a triple helix-like conformation, as evidenced by UV-Vis (Congo Red experiment) and circular dichroism (CD) studies. This helical arrangement demonstrated stability under various experimental conditions, including concentration, ionic strength, temperature, and lipid interactions. EPS-AG7 exhibited significant anticoagulant activity, doubling blood coagulation time at a concentration of 3.0 mg/mL, and showed significant antioxidant activity, with scavenging activities reaching up to 85.90% and 58.64% in DPPH and ABTS+ assays at 5.0 mg/mL, and EC50 values of 1.40 mg/mL and 3.80 mg/mL, respectively. Xanthones are chemical substances in higher plants, marine organisms, and lower microorganisms. The most prevalent naturally occurring sources of xanthones are those belonging to the families Caryophyllaceae, Guttiferae, and Gentianaceae. Structurally, xanthones (9H xanthan-9-one) are heterocyclic compounds with oxygen and a γ-pyrone component. They are densely packed with a two-benzene ring structure. The carbons in xanthones are numbered from their nucleus and biosynthetic construct. They have mixed shikimate-acetate (higher plants) and acetate-malonate (lower organisms) biosynthetic origins, which influence their classification. Based on the level of oxidation of the C-ring, they are classified into monomers, dimers, and heterodimers. While based on the level of oxygenation or the type of ring residue, they can be categorized into mono-, di-, tri-, tetra-, penta- and hexa-oxygenated xanthones, bis-xanthones, prenylated and related xanthones, xanthonolignoids, and other miscellaneous xanthones. This structural diversity has made xanthones exhibit considerable biological properties as promising antioxidant, antifungal, antimicrobial, and anticancer agents. Structure-activity relationship studies suggest C-1, C-3, C-6, and C-8 as the key positions that influence the biological activity of xanthones. Furthermore, the presence of functional groups, such as prenyl, hydroxyl, glycosyl, furan, and pyran, at the key positions of xanthones, may contribute to their spectrum of biological activity. One of the major components of these metabolites is volatile oils. Essential oils are considered one of the most important ways in which plants express themselves through aroma. The oils are also one of the reasons for therapy, mood-upliftment, life processes, plants and dependent organisms' survival, joy, happiness, aesthetic beauty, and attractions in several realms, as well as for various interactive species, including insects, animals, and humans. In addition, essential oils participate in modern industries and worldwide healthcare systems. Aromatic plants and their extracted and distilled volatile oils have been used in different systems of traditional medicine and in all ancient civilizations. They are also still used as part of modern healthcare systems and in folkloric therapeutic and prophylactic applications. Therefore, the chemistry, bio-based diversity, geographic sources, biological activities, and clinical applications of volatile oils have gained the momentum and continued attention of researchers, culminating in several thousand publications each year. Background/Objective: Numerous studies have demonstrated the ethno-and pharmacological properties of various Artemisia species. However, this plant genus which grows abundantly and wildly in the 'Tébessa' Algerian region has not been investigated. This study focuses on the phytochemical characterization, biological activities evaluation with the antibacterial fraction identification of the aerial part aqueous extract (AE) and essential oil (EO) from Algerian Artemisia herba alba (Aha) growing wild in the 'Tebessa' region. Methods: Polyphenols, flavonoids, and condensed tannins were analyzed by spectrophotometer and the antimicrobial activity was determined by the gel diffusion followed by micro-dilution methods. The antioxidant effect was assayed using 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrilhidrazil (DPPH), total antioxidant capacity (TAC), and ferric reducing power (FRAP) tests. The cytotoxic and anti-leishmaniasis activities were experienced on Raw 264.7 cell line and on L. infantum and L. major promastigotes respectively. Thin-layer chromatography (TLC)/autobiography and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) techniques were used to isolate and identify the antibacterial compounds. EO profile was determined by GC-MS analysis. Results: The extracts (AE and EO) demonstrated antioxidant activity, with the AE exhibiting the most pronounced levels. Both extracts showed antimicrobial activity against all the strains tested however; the EO effect was more effective, especially against the E. feacalis strain with a minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) value of 0.0625 mg/mL. The antibacterial fraction exerted by AE towards E. feacalis was identified. AE and EO extracts showed antileishmanial activity and no toxic effect however, volatile extract was the most effective. EO profile revealed 19 identified compounds, led by camphor (51.14%), followed by 1,8 Cineole (19.30%), camphene (6.90%) and chrysanthenone (5.68%). Conclusion: As a result, the both extracts promise a high potential applications in agri-food, pharmaceutical, cosmetic sectors. This study aligns with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 3, 12, and 15, emphasizing potential health benefits, the responsible use of natural resources, and biodiversity conservation. This study aimed to investigate the variation in the chemical composition of Origanum compactum essential oils (EOs) from four geographically distinct locations. Additionally, we evaluated their antioxidant properties and potential inhibitory effects on acetylcholinesterase (AChE), tyrosinase, and α-glucosidase enzymes and their insecticidal proprieties. Notably, this research also marks the first examination of the mineral composition of O. compactum. The chemical composition was determined using gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC-MS), which identified thymol (28.72–80.39%), carvacrol (6.54–61.84%), p-cymene (0.27–8.64%), linalool (1.44–1.96%), and caryophyllene oxide (1.34–1.56%) as the major constituents. Concurrently, inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP-AES) revealed significant levels of macro and microelements, including calcium (295.50–512.20 mg/kg), potassium (195.99–398.45 mg/kg), magnesium (59.70–98.45 mg/kg), and iron (43.55–112.60 mg/kg). The EOs demonstrated notable antiradical activities through DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl), FRAP (ferric reducing antioxidant power), and β-carotene bleaching assays. Regarding the insecticidal effect, all studied essential oils showed a significant toxicity against C. capitata adults, and the toxicity was dose and time dependent. The highest insecticidal effect was observed for O. compactum essential oils collected from Gouman (LC50 = 2.515 µL/mL, LC90 = 5.502 µL/mL) after 48 h of treatment. Furthermore, at a concentration of 1 mg/mL, the EOs exhibited strong inhibitory effects against AChE (84.75–94.01%), tyrosinase (84.75–94.01%), and α-glucosidase (79.90–87.80%), highlighting their potential as natural inhibitors of these enzymes. The essential oils of O. compactum contain components that could be used as a basis for synthetizing derivatives or analogs with potential medicinal applications and pest control properties. Punica granatum (Pomegranate) is a well-known plant resource with a rich history of medicinal and culinary uses since ancient times. The unique bioactivity of P. granatum polysaccharides (PGPs) has attracted increasing attention in research. However, the advancement of PGPs-based functional foods and medicines has been hindered by a lack of comprehensive understanding regarding the structure–activity relationship (SAR), structural modification, applications, and safety of PGPs. This review aims to summarize the current knowledge on extraction and purification methods, structural features, biological activities, SAR, applications, and safety considerations of PGPs. Studies have demonstrated that PGPs exhibit a wide range of bioactivities, including antioxidant, antitumor, immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, and hypolipidemic effects. SAR studies have indicated that PGPs with moderate molecular weight (10–422.55 kDa) exhibit excellent immunostimulatory activity, while selenium modification of PGPs enhances their antioxidant activities. Additionally, PGPs containing β-(1 → 3)-bonds are crucial for their antitumor effects. Furthermore, PGPs display remarkable rheological properties, bioavailability, and biodegradability, with no observed toxic effects, making them promising candidates for applications in the food, medicine, nanomaterials, and cosmetic industries. Mango (Mangifera indica) and guava (Psidium guajava) seeds have several pharmaceutical applications and biological activities because as they have been recognized with different bioactive molecules (phenolic compounds) such as flavonoids, phenolic acids, and catechins, so they have antioxidant and anticancer activities. The aim of the present study was to assess in vitro antioxidant and anticancer activities of successive extracts and semi-purified fractions from mango seeds. In this work, mango and guava seeds were collected and extracted using two solvents (ethanol 70% and ethyl acetate) followed by phytochemical screening and determination of biological activities such as antioxidant activity using five assays (DPPH, ABTS, KMnO4, Methylene blue and H2O2) additionally the antiradical activity and hybrid reaction for ethanolic extract of mango seeds as promising extract. The total phenolic, flavonoid, and catechin compounds were determined for all successive extracts, and finally, the anticancer activity of extracts was evaluated using MTT assay against HepG2 cell line and phenolic compounds were identified by HPLC. The phytochemical screening and TLC showed the primary investigation for phenolic compounds of ethanol extracts of both kind of seeds and only ethyl acetate of guava extract as promising extracts. However, HPLC determination of these three extracts showed high amount of gallic acid, naringenin, ellagic acid, and ferulic acid as they have anticancer and antioxidant activities. The antioxidant tests showed that the ethanolic mango extract is the highest antioxidant extract against DPPH by 84.0%, but recorded 82.0% with methylene blue and ABTS assays when compared with ascorbic acid. The ethyl acetate of guava extract showed strong cytotoxic effect with IC50 75.5 μg/mL against HepG2 cell line in all tested concentrations. From the obtained results, it could be concluded that mango ethanolic extract and its fractions are the most promising as antioxidants and ethyl acetate of guava extract the most promising in the anticancer activity. Gracilaria lamaneiformis, a red seaweed, is an abundant source of bioactive polysaccharides with significant health-promoting properties. Nevertheless, the broad application of G. lamaneiformis in the nutraceutical and pharmaceutical sectors remains constrained due to the absence of comprehensive data. This review provides a detailed examination of the preparation methods, structural characteristics, and biological activities of G. lamaneiformis polysaccharides (GLPs). We explore both conventional and advanced extraction techniques, highlighting the efficiency and yield improvements achieved through methods such as microwave-, ultrasonic-, and enzyme-assisted extraction. The structural elucidation of GLPs using modern analytical techniques, including high-performance liquid chromatography, gas chromatography, and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, is discussed, providing comprehensive insights into their molecular composition and configuration. Furthermore, we critically evaluate the diverse biological activities of GLPs, including their antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antitumor, and gut microbiota modulation properties. Chemical examination of an actinomycete strain Streptomyces malaysiensis DSM 4137 derived from a soil sample derived isolate Streptomyces sp. DSM 3816, yielded a new C2-asymmetric elaiophylin derivative efomycine U (1) and a known analogue halichoblelide D (2). These structures were unambiguously elucidated on the basis of extensive NMR spectroscopic and mass spectrometric analyses. This study aimed to develop HGs based on cationic guar gum (CGG), polyethylene glycol (PEG), propylene glycol (PG), and citric acid (CA) using a 2k factorial experimental design to optimize their properties. The biological activities of HGs were determined by evaluating their mucoadhesive capacity and antibacterial activity in vitro, whereas their toxicity was analyzed using Artemia salina nauplii as an in vivo model. Results revealed that HGs were successfully optimized for their viscosity, pH, and sensory properties, and it was observed that varying concentrations of PEG-75 did not influence them. Through SEM analyses, it was noted that increased levels of PEG-75 resulted in HGs with distinct porosity and textures, whereas FTIR and Raman spectroscopy exhibited representative peaks of the raw materials used during the synthesis process. TGA studies indicated the thermal stability of HGs, as they presented degradation patterns at 100 and 300 °C. The synthesized HGs exhibited similar mucoadhesion kinetic profiles, demonstrating a displacement factor at an equilibrium of 0.57 mm/mg at 5 min. The antibacterial activity of HGs was appraised as poor against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria due to their MIC90 values (>500 μg/mL). Regarding A. salina, treatment with HGs neither decreased their viability nor induced morphological changes. The obtained results suggest the suitability of CGG/PEG HGs for oral mucosa drug delivery and expand the knowledge about their mucoadhesive capacity, antibacterial potential, and in vivo biocompatibility. Maize comes in a variety of colors, including white, yellow, red, blue, and purple, which is due to the presence of phytochemicals such as carotenoids, anthocyanins, flavonoids, phytosterols, and some hydroxycinnamic acid derivatives. In Mexico, maize is primarily grown for human consumption; however, maize residues comprise 51–58% of the total maize plant weight (stalks, leaves, ears, and husks) and are mainly used as livestock feed. These residues contain numerous bioactive compounds that interest the industry for their potential health benefits in preventing or treating degenerative diseases. This review explores the current knowledge and highlights key aspects related to the extraction methods and different techniques for identifying the bioactive compounds found in maize by-products. Network pharmacology is an emerging interdisciplinary research method. The application of network pharmacology to reveal the nutritional effects and mechanisms of active ingredients in food is of great significance in promoting the development of functional food, facilitating personalized nutrition, and exploring the mechanisms of food health effects. This article systematically reviews the application of network pharmacology in the field of food science using a literature review method. The application progress of network pharmacology in food science is discussed, and the mechanisms of functional factors in food on the basis of network pharmacology are explored. Additionally, the limitations and challenges of network pharmacology are discussed, and future directions and application prospects are proposed. Network pharmacology serves as an important tool to reveal the mechanisms of action and health benefits of functional factors in food. It helps to conduct in‐depth research on the biological activities of individual ingredients, composite foods, and compounds in food, and assessment of the potential health effects of food components. Moreover, it can help to control and enhance their functionality through relevant information during the production and processing of samples to guarantee food safety. The application of network pharmacology in exploring the mechanisms of functional factors in food is further analyzed and summarized. Combining machine learning, artificial intelligence, clinical experiments, and in vitro validation, the achievement transformation of functional factor in food driven by network pharmacology is of great significance for the future development of network pharmacology research. Akebia trifoliate (Thunb.) koidz. is a significant nutritional, medicinal, and economically valuable fruit. The whole plant of Akebia trifoliate (Thunb.) koidz. has medicinal activity. The vines of Akebia trifoliate (Thunb.) koidz. are the main source of the traditional Chinese medicine of Akebiae caulis. The mature dried fruits of Akebia trifoliate (Thunb.) koidz. is the traditional Chinese medicine named as “Yuzhiz”. The flesh fruit tastes sweet, smooth and fine-tender with delicate fragrance. The fruits contain nutrients (water, carbohydrates, proteins, fats, minerals, vitamins, etc.), functional components (flavonoids, polyphenols, triterpenes and their saponins, lignans, polysaccharides, organic acids, etc.), and have physiological activities (anti-tumor, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, hypoglycemic, etc.). In this paper, the nutritional components, bioactive components, biological activities, preservation, processing of Akebia trifoliata (Thunb.) koidz. are reviewed with its research and application prospect. This review will provide theoretical basis for the comprehensive development and precise processing of functional ingredients in Akebia trifoliata (Thunb.) koidz.

Since ancient times, humans have turned to medicinal plants for treating various ailments and curing specific diseases, as these natural plants serve as the primary source of a range of phytochemicals, including triterpenes. Maslinic acid (MA), also known as (2α,3β)-2,3-dihydroxyolean-12-en-28-oic acid, is a pentacyclic triterpene acid present in numerous plants including olive, known for its high safety profile in humans. Recent experimental data increasingly suggests that MA exhibits diverse biological properties and therapeutic effects on various organ diseases, highlighting its significant potential for clinical applications due to its diverse potential pharmacological activities that promote health and resist various diseases, such as hypoglycemic, neuroprotective, anti-tumor, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and multiple other biological activities. However, the undesirable pharmacokinetic properties of MA, such as high lipophilicity, pose a limitation to its application and development, impacting its bioavailability. Consequently, extensive research spanning decades has focused on structurally modifying MA to overcome these limitations and enhance its pharmacokinetic and therapeutic characteristics, leading to the identification of several potential lead compounds. In this review, we focus on the progress of research in recent years on MA with interest to its chemical and enzymatic modifications as well as the relationships between the modified structures or derivatives and their biological activities.

Abstract Nanoporous aluminum metal–organic framework (Al-MOF) was synthesized via solvothermal methods and employed as a carrier matrix for in vitro drug delivery of Umbelliferon (Um). The encapsulated Um was gradually released over seven days at 37 °C, using simulated body fluid phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) at pH 7.4 as the release medium. The drug release profile suggests the potential of Al-MOF nanoparticles as effective drug delivery carriers. Structural and chemical analyses of Um-loaded Al-MOF nanoparticles (Um-Al MOF) were conducted using Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, X-ray diffractometry (XRD), and ultraviolet–visible (UV–Vis) spectroscopy. Thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) was employed to investigate the thermal stability of the Al-MOF nanoparticles, while Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) was utilized to assess their morphological features. Um-Al MOF nanoparticles demonstrated notable antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties compared to Um and Al-MOF nanoparticles individually. Moreover, they exhibited significant enhancement in wound healing in an earthworm model. These findings underscore the potential of Al-MOF nanoparticles as a promising drug delivery system, necessitating further investigations to explore their clinical applicability.

Commonly known as wild pepper, Piper capense (P. capense) is a culinary herb mainly used as a secret in preparation of “Nkui” and “Nah poh” in Bayangam, West Cameroon. However, it also has many interesting pharmacological properties, which is why the people of sub-Saharan Africa so highly prize it for the treatment of multiple human pathologies. This study aimed to highlight the traditional uses, phytochemical composition, biological activities, and toxicological profile of the P. capense plant, to draw the attention of pharmaceutical companies to its enormous potential for the development of future phyto- or pharmaceutical products. Documentary research was meticulously carried out in the Web of Sciences, Scopus, Pubmed/Medline, and Google Scholar databases according to PRISMA 2020 guidelines. The results show that extracts and compounds isolated from Piper capense have interesting anticancer, antibacterial, antimalarial, hypoglycemic, anti-epileptic, and antidepressant activities. Methanolic extracts and essential oils from P. capense exhibit no harmful effects when directly applied to normal human hepatocytes, umbilical cord cells, intestinal cells, and keratinocyte cell lines. Additionally, methanolic extracts administered acutely or subchronically at low doses (≤250 mg/kg body weight) in Wistar rats also demonstrate no adverse effects. In conclusion, given its interesting activities, P. capense is a viable option for developing new antimalarial, anticancer, antibacterial, hypoglycemic, anti-epileptic, and antidepressant drugs. However, many avenues still need to be explored before translation into drugs.

Abstract Background Nyctanthes arbor-tristis Linn. is a small, sacred ornamental tree used in prayer. It is renowned throughout India for its aromatic white blossoms. The entire plant was widely used for several health applications particularly root and bark were used to treat fever and cough, respectively. Also, the leaf was used for managing fever and diabetes, and its cholagogue, diaphoretic, and anthelmintic properties. Main text The current review aimed to comprehensively analyze the botanical characteristics, phytochemistry, and pharmacology of N. arbor-tristis essential oil (NAEO) and extracts. Additionally, it wants to emphasize the latest advancements in phytochemistry and pharmacology related to this aromatic plant. Depending on the variety, origin, and plant parts used, the NAEO yield ranged from 0.002 to 0.10% on a dry basis. The NAEO has been investigated in only a few research studies and resulted, in the predominant levels of phytol and methyl palmitate chemical compounds. Furthermore, the NAEO was found to have significant volatile chemical constituents, including geranylgeraniol, phytoene, nonadecane, linalool, and various other miscellaneous chemical components. The plant extracts and NAEO have numerous biological properties, including antioxidant, antimicrobial, anticancer, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, larvicidal, and other miscellaneous activities. Conclusion This paper analyzes and summarizes the diverse research potential associated with N. arbor-tristis. The results of the present study suggested that most of the biological and pharmacological investigations were carried out without including dosage, positive controls, and negative controls. Furthermore, several pharmacological investigations were exclusively carried out using cell lines and animal models. Hence, the following research endeavors aimed at assessing the medicinal properties of NAEO and extracts in human subjects would broaden the scope of its utilization. Graphical abstract

The pollen of date palm (Phoenix dactylifera L.) is known for its nutritional value and implications as a health-promoting component. Due to its low cost, date palm pollen crushed with its spadix is more widely commercialized and used in Morocco than pure date palm pollen free of spadix. Thus, this study aimed to assess the physicochemical and phytochemical parameters, biological activities, and nutritional value of the two pollen types: Pure date palm pollen and date palm pollen crushed with its spadix. Various physicochemical parameters were determined, including humidity, water activity (a w), total soluble solids, ash content, and color parameters (L*, a*, b*, C*ab, and hab). Additionally, the phenolic compound profiles were analyzed, and the in vitro antioxidant, enzyme inhibitory, and antidiabetic activities were assessed for both pure date palm pollen and date palm pollen crushed with its spadix. Furthermore, the nutritional value was evaluated by determining protein and carbohydrate contents, and mineral and fatty acid profiles. The results have revealed that pure date palm pollen had higher humidity, aw, L*, and hab color parameters than date palm pollen crushed with its spadix, but lower total soluble solid and ash contents. The main phenolic compounds in pure date palm pollen were ellagic acid, rutin, fisetin, and quercetin, whereas date palm pollen crushed with its spadix contained mainly catechin, chlorogenic acid, p -coumaric acid, ferulic acid, and rutin. Moreover, pure date palm pollen showed greater in vitro antioxidant activity, while date palm pollen crushed with its spadix had higher enzyme inhibitory and antidiabetic activities. PDPS was the richest source of proteins, carbohydrates, minerals, and saturated fatty acids, while date palm pollen crushed with its spadix was a better source of unsaturated fatty acids, which are mainly represented by linoleic acid. In conclusion, although date palm pollen crushed with its spadix is the most widely consumed type, its nutritional value is lower than that of pure date palm pollen. Thus, pure date palm pollen could potentially serve as a better source of many bioactive compounds, making it a viable supplement for various health applications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
