A Belousov–Zhabotinsky (BZ) gel is a unique biomimetic system that undergoes autonomous volume oscillations induced by the redox oscillation of the BZ reaction. In a previous study, researchers reported that the oscillations of two BZ gels coupled by compression were synchronized by a mechanical interaction. They mathematically explained the synchronization behavior using a phase oscillator model. As a different approach to the previous study, a physicochemical investigation of the phenomenon will lead to a better understanding of the functional biological rhythms essential for life. In this study, we construct a simple phenomenological model to understand the synchronization of BZ gels. The model consists of two parts. One is the dynamics of the chemical reactions in the BZ gels. We use a phenomenological model based on the Oregonator for the BZ reaction. The other is the dynamics of the mechanical deformation of the BZ gel. Using approximations, we extract the parameters essential for the synchronization of a mechanical interaction. Thus, we can derive a novel equation for the deformation dynamics of mechanically coupled BZ gels. By combining these two parts, we perform numerical calculations. This allows us to find that the synchronization of the two BZ gels is less likely to occur under stronger compression. The development of artificial biomimetic systems with real-world applications relies on a profound understanding of all photophysical and photochemical processes taking place upon light absorption by a chromophoric unit. Efficient photoinduced charge separation in photosensitizers or specialized photocatalysts is the process triggering most of the chemical reactions in the production of solar fuels, and hence, its proper characterization is of utmost importance. In this work, we investigated photoinduced charge separation processes in a perfluorinated Zn-tetraphenylporphyrin photosensitizer (ZnF20). Ascorbate and 1,4-diazabicyclo[2.2.2]octane (DABCO) were used as reversible electron donors for nanosecond-resolved pump–probe experiments using both optical absorption and resonance Raman scattering as probes. Our results indicate that in spite of similar charge separation efficiencies, the DABCO-containing system exhibits a much faster kinetics of charge-separated state formation and decay. This is attributed to its inherent ability to coordinate to the metal center. Time-resolved resonance Raman measurements allow for the detection of vibrational modes specific to both the triplet excited state of ZnF20 and its reduced state, complementing transient absorption data to fully characterize the charge separation process. Traditional polyurethane coating is prepared by combining isocyanate and polyol, but isocyanate is toxic, which is not conducive to the sustainable development of ecological environment. In this paper, dibutyltin dilaurate (DBTDL) was used as catalyst to synthesize dicyclic carbonate from four different acids and glycerol carbonates. Then, it was gradually polymerized with isophorone diamine (IPDA) and 4,4'-diaminodiphenyl disulfide ether to synthesize self-healing non-isocyanate polyurethane (NIPU). The effects of different acid types on coating forming and self-healing properties of NIPU were studied. Then, polypyrrole modified carbon nanotubes were prepared and physically blended with NIPU to obtain a responsive NIPU gel coating. The results show that NIPU has excellent scratch repair performance at 70°C by optical microscopy; Through the dissolution and re-formation of NIPU by N, N-dimethylformamide, it is proved that the material has repeatable processability and is conducive to the sustainable development of ecological environment; The high precision multimeter proved that NIPU has the responsiveness under different chemical environment of acid, alkali, oxidation and reduction. In order to solve the problem of the low efficiency of lactose hydrolysis using traditional metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) nanozymes, Brønsted acid active sites (-COOH) were firstly introduced into Fe-MIL-101 nanozymes to enhance the lactose hydrolysis activity of MOFs bearing Lewis acid sites in this study. When compared to Fe-MIL-101, Fe-MIL-101-COOH exhibited improved catalytic performance, showing a lactose conversion rate of up to 78%. Our experiments suggested that this enhancement could be attributed to the synergistic effect between the Brønsted acidic COOH groups and Lewis acidic Fe clusters. Furthermore, Fe-MIL-101-COOH displayed good stability and reusability with no significant loss in catalytic activity observed after at least five consecutive cycles. Our results showed that the activity of Fe-MIL-101-COOH with Brønsted acid active sites was better than that of Fe-MIL-101. Fe-MIL-101-COOH could be applied to the hydrolysis of lactose in milk powder and the conversion rate of lactose was higher than 48%. Chemical warfare agents represent a severe threat to mankind and their efficient decontamination is a global necessity. However, traditional disposal strategies have limitations, including high energy consumption, use of aggressive reagents and generation of toxic byproducts. Here, inspired by the compartmentalized architecture and detoxification mechanism of bacterial micro-compartments, we constructed oil-in-water Pickering emulsion droplets stabilized by hydrogen-bonded organic framework immobilized cascade enzymes for decontaminating mustard gas simulant (2-chloroethyl ethyl sulfide, CEES) under sweet conditions. Two exemplified droplet systems were developed with two-enzyme (glucose oxidase/chloroperoxidase) and three-enzyme (invertase/glucose oxidase/chloroperoxidase) cascades, both achieving over 6-fold enhancement in decontamination efficiency compared with free enzymes and >99% selectivity towards non-toxic sulfoxide. We found that the favored mass transfer of sugars and CEES from their respective phases to approach the cascade enzymes located at the droplet surface and the facilitated substrate channeling between proximally immobilized enzymes were key factors in augmenting the decontamination efficacy. More importantly, the robustness of immobilized enzymes enabled easy reproduction of both the droplet formation and detoxification performance over 10 cycles, following long-term storage and in far-field locations. Artificial ion channels that enable high-efficiency ion transport have important implications in nanofluidics and biomedical applications such as drug delivery. Herein, we show a simulation-based chemical design of a biomimetic sodium channel that possesses permeation rate and selectivity potentially higher than those of the state-of-the-art natural vertebrate voltage-gated sodium channels. Importantly, our theoretical findings have undergone empirical testing, aligning well with the Arrhenius law as derived from a diverse range of experimental results. The high-efficiency ion transport is achieved by anchoring the carboxylate functional groups within the channel filter. A key chemical guiding principle underlying the ion channel design is that the freeenergy barrier for the Na+ passage across the channel should be comparable to typical thermal energy at room temperature. With the implementation of the chemical design, we found that the relatively low free-energy barrier can be attributed to the compensation effect of the carboxylate groups to the partially lost oxygen shell of the ion within the ion channel, as well as to the consonant vibration of the ions inside and outside the channel. This mechanistic understanding brings new insight, at the molecular level, into the high-efficiency ion transport across the designed membrane channels. The proof of principle achieved from the simulations will stimulate future experimental confirmation and potential applications of the high-performance artificial channels in nanofluidics and in bioinspired iontronics. Hepatic ischemia‐reperfusion injury (HIRI) is a prevalent issue during liver resection and transplantation, with currently no cure or FDA‐approved therapy. A promising drug, Cyclosporin A (CsA), ameliorates HIRI by maintaining mitochondrial homeostasis but has systemic side effects due to its low bioavailability and high dosage requirements. This study introduces a biomimetic CsA delivery system that directly targets hepatic lesions using mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) membrane‐camouflaged liposomes. These hybrid nanovesicles (NVs), leveraging MSC‐derived proteins, demonstrate efficient inflammatory chemotaxis, transendothelial migration, and drug‐loading capacity. In a HIRI mouse model, the biomimetic NVs accumulated at liver injury sites entered hepatocytes, and significantly reduced liver damage and restore function using only one‐tenth of the CsA dose typically required. Proteomic analysis verifies the protection mechanism, which includes reactive oxygen species inhibition, preservation of mitochondrial integrity, and reduced cellular apoptosis, suggesting potential for this biomimetic strategy in HIRI intervention. Utilizing various materials is fundamental for the production of physical objects. However, processing raw materials during production often leads to complex transformations that hinder the recyclability of modern high‐performance materials. These materials possess increased durability and resilience, challenging their decomposition and limiting their potential for recycling and reuse. In contrast, living Nature manages material utilization without such complications. The emerging discipline of Engineered Living Materials (ELMs) shifts the focus to self‐repairing, self‐supporting growing materials, emphasizing overall sustainability. To effectively address the challenges associated with high‐performance materials, the design process must incorporate considerations of recycling and decomposition from the outset. Environmental challenges associated with material utilization can be addressed by reevaluating material design and prioritizing recycling, decomposition, and embracing Nature's "good enough" principle. The transition toward sustainable resource management requires substantial investment in scientific research that explores the mechanisms by which life sustains itself using solely local resources. Biomimetics and ELMs offer valuable insights, but a deeper understanding of how Nature efficiently utilizes resources is crucial. The integration of engineering advantages not identified in Nature, such as product sub‐unit reuse, can complement these efforts. Spider dragline silk's exceptional mechanical performance, coupled with its benign production pathway, have inspired the design of diverse smart materials. Remarkably, relatively little is known about the self‐assembly process of major ampullate spidroin 1 (MaSp1) – the main protein constituent of dragline fiber – during its rapid conversion from soluble precursor protein into hierarchically structured mature silk fibers. Herein, the biomimetic potential of MaSp1 is explored using a new recombinant platform with full domain representation. MaSp1 is found to undergo efficient liquid‐liquid phase separation (LLPS) in response to kosmotropic ions, with notably higher propensity compared to MaSp2, and with MaSp1 exhibiting a more complex solubility profile relative to levels of sodium chloride. To further the understanding of silk spinning, the rapid assembly of mesoscale structures is monitored in real‐time in response to ion and pH gradients, revealing a progression from LLPS droplets toward aligned hierarchical fibers. Furthermore, using this biomimetic system, insoluble macroscopic MaSp1 fibers can be readily generated, wherein the application of mechanical deformation triggers the emergence of β‐sheet secondary structures. The insights gained from this study can have broader application in efforts to mimic the formation of biomaterials with spatially organized features across multiple length scales. Recent advancements in organoid technology have heralded a transformative era in biomedical research, characterized by the emergence of gut organoids that replicate the structural and functional complexity of the human intestines. These stem cell-derived structures provide a dynamic platform for investigating intestinal physiology, disease pathogenesis, and therapeutic interventions. This model outperforms traditional two-dimensional cell cultures in replicating cell interactions and tissue dynamics. Gut organoids represent a significant leap towards personalized medicine. They provide a predictive model for human drug responses, thereby minimizing reliance on animal models and paving the path for more ethical and relevant research approaches. However, the transition from basic organoid models to more sophisticated, biomimetic systems that encapsulate the gut's multifaceted environment--including its interactions with microbial communities, immune cells, and neural networks--presents significant scientific challenges. This review concentrates on recent technological strides in overcoming these barriers, emphasizing innovative engineering approaches for integrating diverse cell types to replicate the gut's immune and neural components. It also explores the application of advanced fabrication techniques, such as 3D bioprinting and microfluidics, to construct organoids that more accurately replicate human tissue architecture. They provide insights into the intricate workings of the human gut, fostering the development of targeted, effective treatments. These advancements hold promise in revolutionizing disease modeling and drug discovery. Future research directions aim at refining these models further, making them more accessible and scalable for wider applications in scientific inquiry and clinical practice, thus heralding a new era of personalized and predictive medicine. In engineering materials, surface anisotropy is known in certain textured patterns that appear during the manufacturing process. In biology, there are numerous examples of mechanical systems which combine anisotropic surfaces with the motion, elicited due to some actuation using muscles or stimuli-responsive materials, such as highly ordered cellulose fiber arrays of plant seeds. The systems supplemented by the muscles are rather fast actuators, because of the relatively high speed of muscle contraction, whereas the latter ones are very slow, because they generate actuation depending on the daily changes in the environmental air humidity. If the substrate has ordered surface profile, one can expect certain statistical order of potential trajectories (depending on the order of the spatial distribution of the surface asperities). If not, the expected trajectories can be statistically rather random. The same presumably holds true for the artificial miniature robots that use actuation in combination with frictional anisotropy. In order to prove this hypothesis, we developed numerical model helping us to study abovementioned cases of locomotion in 2D space on an uneven terrain. We show that at extremely long times, these systems tends to behave according to the rules of ballistic diffusion. Physically, it means that their motion tends to be associated with the "channels" of the patterned substrate. Such a motion is more or less the same as it should be in the uniform space. Such asymptotic behavior is specific for the motion in model regular potential and would be impossible on more realistic (and complex) fractal reliefs. However, one can expect that in any kind of the potential with certain symmetry (hexagonal or rhombic, for example), where it is still possible to find the ways, the motion along fixed direction during long (or even almost infinite) time intervals is possible. Miniature soft actuators have garnered attention across healthcare, military, and industrial fields; however, soft actuators mostly have functions and applications in nature‐inspired biomimetic locomotion, without any specific approaches reported for biomedical applications. In biomedical applications, soft actuators must be biodegradable, biocompatible, and visible in vivo. This study presents a multifunctional soft actuator comprising chitosan and magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) fabricated via facile casting and laser micromachining. The actuator demonstrates programmable shape morphing and responds swiftly to six stimuli: humidity, chemical solvents, near‐infrared (NIR) light, radio‐frequency (RF) heating, temperature, and magnetic fields. This actuator shows feasibility for biomimetic applications, such as flower, leaf, larva, and finger. Furthermore, the actuator demonstrates magnetic locomotion, real‐time X‐ray visibility, biocompatibility, and biodegradability both in vitro and in vivo. The multistimulus‐responsive shape‐morphing performance of the soft actuator has potential as a wireless miniature robot in various fields, including biomimetic and biomedical applications. Shape memory polymers (SMPs) capable of generating various deformations from anisotropic temporary shapes to permanent shapes have been emerging as soft robots. However, traditional SMPs cannot imitate the antagonistic movement of human skeletal muscles due to their modulus limitations in shape programming and recovery process. Herein, hydration programmable shape memory polymer (HP‐SMP)‐based fibers that can undergo reversible actuation by assembling antagonistic pairs are reported, where the shape programming of the antagonist muscle relies on the contraction of agonist muscle. HP‐SMP fibers are composed of tunicate cellulose nanocrystals (TCNCs) reinforced semi‐interpenetrating polymer networks. Leveraging their distinctive structure and hydration programmability, the HP‐SMP fibers exhibit large actuation strain (−60%) and high work capacity (751 J kg−1), allowing for reversible actuation under constant stress. Most significantly, the continuous antagonistic movements of HP‐SMP fibers assembled into artificial limbs are demonstrated to realize humanoid motion. This work provides new possibilities for replicating a series of lifelike human movements through the biomimetic design of antagonistic pairs of artificial muscles, utilizing renewable and sustainable biosourced materials. Seals, sea lions, and other aquatic animals rely on their whiskers to identify and track underwater targets, offering valuable inspiration for the development of low-power, portable, and environmentally friendly sensors. Here, we design a single seal-whisker-like cylinder and conduct experiments to measure the forces acting on it with nine different upstream targets. Using sample sets constructed from these force signals, a convolutional neural network (CNN) is trained and tested. The results demonstrate that combining the seal-whisker-style sensor with a CNN enables the identification of objects in the water in most cases, although there may be some confusion for certain targets. Increasing the length of the signal samples can enhance the results but may not eliminate these confusions. Our study reveals that high frequencies (greater than 5 Hz) are irrelevant in our model. Lift signals present more distinct and distinguishable features than drag signals, serving as the primary basis for the model to differentiate between various targets. Fourier analysis indicates that the model's efficacy in recognizing different targets relies heavily on the discrepancies in the spectral features of the lift signals. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Hydration‐induced shape‐morphing behavior has been discovered in many natural fiber‐based materials, yet this smart behavior in regenerated fibers from biopolymers lacks investigation. Here, hierarchically structured silk fibers are developed with anisotropic long‐range molecular organization and water‐responsive effects resembling natural spider silk. The regenerated silk fibers exhibit the water‐triggered shape‐memory effect and a water‐driven cyclic response. The reversible hydrogen bonds and transformation in the metastable secondary structure from α‐helices/random coils to β‐sheets are explored as the mechanisms responsible for the water‐responsiveness. The silk fibers obtained possess a tensile strength higher than 104 MPa at a fracture strain of ≈100%, showing noticeable toughness. The water‐responsive silk fibers exhibit a shape recovery rate of ∼83% and generate a maximum actuation stress of up to 18 MPa during the water‐driven cyclic contraction that outperforms most traditional natural textile fibers. The regenerated silk fibers show potential for use in water‐driven actuators, artificial muscle, and smart fabrics based on the integration of suitable mechanical properties and water responsiveness. Drawing inspiration from nature has long been a cornerstone of chemical innovation, with natural systems offering a wealth of untapped potential for discovery. In this minireview, we delve into the burgeoning field of cobaloxime catalysis in organic synthesis, which mimics the catalytic activity of the natural organometallic alkylcobalamine enzymes. Our focus lies on elucidating the latest advancements in this area, as well as delineating the primary mechanistic pathways at play. By describing, and comparing these mechanisms, we provide a comprehensive overview of the current state‐of‐the‐art, while also shedding light on the key unresolved challenges that await further exploration. Inspired by phase-separated biopolymers with enzymatic activity, we developed an amphiphilic catalyst consisting of alternating hydrophilic oligo(ethylene glycol) and hydrophobic aromatic units bearing a Hoveyda–Grubbs catalyst center (MAHGII). MAHGII served as both a droplet-forming scaffold and a catalyst for ring-closing metathesis reactions, providing a new biomimetic system that promotes organic reactions in an aqueous environment. Colorectal Cancer (CRC) is the second leading cause of death among tumors worldwide. Conventional treatments are often accompanied by emerging immunotherapies, trying to reduce the burden of advanced and metastatic stages. Recently, nanomedicine therapies have been under intensive research to offer new perspectives to patients. Motivated by this rationale, this work proposes the formulation of advanced biomimetic and targeted nanoparticles (NPs) enabling a stimuli responsive and localized therapy, triggered by the safe use of acoustic shockwaves, a deep-penetrating tissue stimulation. Iron-doped zinc oxide nanocrystals were synthetized and enveloped in a biomimetic lipid bilayer shell, conjugating a peptide (YSA) as selective targeting toward CRC cells. Comparative studies, performed both in 2D monolayer and 3D spheroids of CRC models, between non-targeted (L-ZnO) and targeted (YSA-L-ZnO) nanoparticles demonstrated the superior capability of targeted nanosystems to dock and be internalized by CRC cells. The YSA-L-ZnO are proven to be highly biocompatible and hemocompatible, and capable of inducing selective damage, once activated by safe shockwaves. This mechanism is able to synergistically ablate tumor cells in both 2D and 3D models, proofing the concept of an innovative stimuli-responsive nanomedicine with a targeted and biomimetic strategy to offer future options for cancer fight. The development of high‐performance artificial synaptic neuromorphic devices poses a significant challenge in the creation of biomimetic sensing neural systems that seamlessly integrate both sensory and computational functionalities. In pursuit of this objective, promising bionic opto‐olfactory co‐sensory artificial synapse devices are constructed utilizing the BP‐C/CNT (2D/1D) hybrid filter membrane as the resistive layer. Experimental results demonstrated that the devices seamlessly integrated the light modulation, gas detection, and biological synaptic functions into a single device while addressing the challenge with separating artificial synaptic devices from sensors. These devices offered the following advantages: 1) Simulating visual synapses, they can effectively replicate fundamental synaptic functions under both electrical and optical stimulation. 2) By emulating olfactory synapse responses to specific gases, they can achieve ultra‐low detection limits and rapid identification of ethanol and acetone gases. 3) They enable photo‐olfactory co‐sensing simulations that mimic synaptic function under light‐modulated pulse conditions in distinct gas environments, facilitating the study of synaptic learning rules and Pavlovian responses. Macrophages play pivotal roles in the regulation of inflammatory responses and tissue repair, making them a prime target for inflammation alleviation. However, the accurate and efficient macrophages targeting is still a challenging task. Motivated by the efficient and specific removal of apoptotic cells by macrophages efferocytosis, a novel biomimetic liposomal system called Effero‐RLP (Efferocytosis‐mediated Red blood cell hybrid Liposomes) is developed which incorporates the membrane of apoptotic red blood cells (RBCs) with liposomes for the purpose of highly efficient macrophages targeting. Rosiglitazone (ROSI), a PPARγ agonist known to attenuate macrophage inflammatory responses, is encapsulated into Effero‐RLP as model drug to regulate macrophage functions in DSS‐induced colitis mouse model. Intriguingly, the Effero‐RLP exhibits selective and efficient uptake by macrophages, which is significantly inhibited by the efferocytosis blocker Annexin V. In animal models, the Effero‐RLP demonstrates rapid recognition by macrophages, leading to enhanced accumulation at inflammatory sites. Furthermore, ROSI‐loaded Effero‐RLP effectively alleviates inflammation and protects colon tissue from injury in the colitis mouse model, which is abolished by deletion of macrophages from mice model. In conclusion, the study highlights the potential of macrophage targeting using efferocytosis biomimetic liposomes. Removing heavy metal (loid) s (HMs) from contaminated soil in a nonselective, highly efficient, and energy‐free manner is a major global challenge. Herein, this work synthesizes and assembles a biomimetic materials system (BMS) consisting of an artificial plant, a hemispherical glass cover, and a reflective plate, capable of non‐selective and highly efficient remediation of soil contaminated by various HM ions under sunlight. Specifically, a water cycle is driven to establish between the soil, artificial plant, and atmosphere by solar energy in the BMS, which induced water‐soluble HM ions to enrich and precipitate at the top edge of the artificial plant. The formed HM precipitate is easily removed, contributing to the extremely strong recyclability of BMS. This system has significant advantages in terms of soil properties, contamination characteristics, energy consumption, processing time, and removal amount over other representative remediation methods, demonstrating its great potential for practical application in the remediation of various HM‐contaminated soils. The development of functional artificial photosynthetic devices relies on the understanding of mechanistic aspects involved in specialized photocatalysts. Modified iron porphyrins have long been explored as efficient catalysts for the light‐induced reduction of carbon dioxide (CO2) towards solar fuels. In spite of the advancements in homogeneous catalysis, the development of the next generation of catalysts requires a complete understanding of the fundamental photoinduced processes taking place prior to and after activation of the substrate by the catalyst. In this work, we employ a state‐of‐the‐art nanosecond optical transient absorption spectroscopic setup with a double excitation capability to induce charge accumulation and trigger the reduction of CO2 to carbon monoxide (CO). Our biomimetic system is composed of a urea‐modified iron(III) tetraphenylporphyrin (UrFeIII) catalyst, the prototypical [Ru(bpy)3]2+ (bpy=2,2'‐bipyridine) used as a photosensitizer, and sodium ascorbate as an electron donor. Under inert atmosphere, we show that two electrons can be successively accumulated on the catalyst as the fates of the photogenerated UrFeII and UrFeI reduced species are tracked. Comprehensive Summary: Hierarchically porous materials (HP materials) are believed one of the most hopeful matrix materials because of their distinctive multimodal pore structures and tremendous application potentials in the field of biomedicine. However, green and facile synthesis of hierarchically porous nanomaterials with beneficial water dispersibility and biocompatibility is still a great challenge. Herein, a novel biomimetic strategy is proposed to prepare the cell‐tailored double‐shelled HPCaCO3/CaF2 hollow nanospheres under the mediation of yeast cells. The biomolecules derived from the secretion of yeast cells are used as conditioning and stabilizing agents to control the biosynthesis of the HPCaCO3/CaF2 materials, which exhibit excellent water dispersibility and favorable biocompatibility. The double‐shelled CaCO3/CaF2 nanospheres hold hierarchically porous structure and have abundant pore channel and large specific surface area, showing high drug‐loading and a prolonged drug sustainable release profile by the pore‐by‐pore diffusion pattern of the hierarchical pores. Otherwise, the HPCaCO3 with pH‐sensitivity could controllably release drug doxorubicin hydrochloride (DOX) at the acidic tumor microenvironment. Both in vitro and in vivo results demonstrate that HPCaCO3/CaF2 has the sustainable pH‐sensitive drug release property, showing an enhanced therapeutic effect. Biomimetic neuromorphic sensing systems, inspired by the structure and function of biological neural networks, represent a major advancement in the field of sensing technology and artificial intelligence. This review paper focuses on the development and application of electrolyte gated transistors (EGTs) as the core components (synapses and neuros) of these neuromorphic systems. EGTs offer unique advantages, including low operating voltage, high transconductance, and biocompatibility, making them ideal for integrating with sensors, interfacing with biological tissues, and mimicking neural processes. Major advances in the use of EGTs for neuromorphic sensory applications such as tactile sensors, visual neuromorphic systems, chemical neuromorphic systems, and multimode neuromorphic systems are carefully discussed. The automotive industry continuously enhances vehicle design to meet the growing demand for more efficient vehicles. Computational design and numerical simulation are essential tools for developing concept cars with lower carbon emissions and reduced costs. Underground roads are proposed as an attractive alternative for reducing surface congestion, improving traffic flow, reducing travel times and minimizing noise pollution in urban areas, creating a quieter and more livable environment for residents. In this context, a concept car body design for underground tunnels was proposed, inspired by the mako shark shape due to its exceptional operational kinetic qualities. The proposed biomimetic-based method using computational fluid dynamics for engineering design includes an iterative process and car body optimization in terms of lift and drag performance. A mesh sensitivity and convergence analysis was performed in order to ensure the reliability of numerical results. The unique surface shape of the shark enabled remarkable aerodynamic performance for the concept car, achieving a drag coefficient value of 0.28. The addition of an aerodynamic diffuser improved downforce by reducing 58% of the lift coefficient to a final value of 0.02. Benchmark validation was carried out using reported results from sources available in the literature. The proposed biomimetic design process based on computational fluid modeling reduces the time and resources required to create new concept car models. Bone marrow has raised a great deal of scientific interest, since it is responsible for the vital process of hematopoiesis and is affiliated with many normal and pathological conditions of the human body. In recent years, organs-on-chips (OoCs) have emerged as the epitome of biomimetic systems, combining the advantages of microfluidic technology with cellular biology to surpass conventional 2D/3D cell culture techniques and animal testing. Bone-marrow-on-a-chip (BMoC) devices are usually focused only on the maintenance of the hematopoietic niche; otherwise, they incorporate at least three types of cells for on-chip generation. We, thereby, introduce a BMoC device that aspires to the purely in vitro generation and maintenance of the hematopoietic niche, using solely mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HSPCs), and relying on the spontaneous formation of the niche without the inclusion of gels or scaffolds. The fabrication process of this poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS)-based device, based on replica molding, is presented, and two membranes, a perforated, in-house-fabricated PDMS membrane and a commercial poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) one, were tested and their performances were compared. The device was submerged in a culture dish filled with medium for passive perfusion via diffusion in order to prevent on-chip bubble accumulation. The passively perfused BMoC device, having incorporated a commercial poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) membrane, allows for a sustainable MSC and HSPC co-culture and proliferation for three days, a promising indication for the future creation of a hematopoietic bone marrow organoid. We inquire into the role of Turing's biological thought in the development of his concept of intelligent machinery. We trace the possible relations between his proto-connectionist notion of 'organising' machines in Turing (1948) on the one hand and his mathematical theory of morphogenesis in developmental biology (1952) on the other. These works were concerned with distinct fields of inquiry and followed distinct paradigms of biological theory, respectively postulating analogues of Darwinian selection in learning and mathematical laws of form in organic pattern formation. Still, these strands of Turing's work are related, first, in terms of being amenable in principle to his (1936) computational method of modelling. Second, they are connected by Turing's scattered speculations about the possible bearing of learning processes on the anatomy of the brain. We argue that these two theories form an unequal couple that, from different angles and in partial fashion, point towards cognition as a biological and embodied phenomenon while, for reasons inherent to Turing's computational approach to modelling, not being capable of directly addressing it as such. We explore ways in which these two distinct-but-related theories could be more explicitly and systematically connected, using von Neumann's contemporaneous and related work on Cellular Automata and more recent biomimetic approaches as a foil. This review elucidates the mechanisms underpinning intrafibrillar mineralization, examines various amorphous calcium phosphate (ACP) stabilizers employed in dentin's intrafibrillar mineralization, and addresses the challenges encountered in clinical applications of ACP-based bioactive materials. The literature search for this review was conducted using three electronic databases: PubMed, Web of Science, and Google Scholar, with specific keywords. Articles were selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria, allowing for a detailed examination and summary of current research on dentin remineralization facilitated by ACP under the influence of various types of stabilizers. This review underscores the latest advancements in the role of ACP in promoting dentin remineralization, particularly intrafibrillar mineralization, under the regulation of various stabilizers. These stabilizers predominantly comprise non-collagenous proteins, their analogs, and polymers. Despite the diversity of stabilizers, the mechanisms they employ to enhance intrafibrillar remineralization are found to be interrelated, indicating multiple driving forces behind this process. However, challenges remain in effectively designing clinically viable products using stabilized ACP and maximizing intrafibrillar mineralization with limited materials in practical applications. The role of ACP in remineralization has gained significant attention in dental research, with substantial progress made in the study of dentin biomimetic mineralization. Given ACP's instability without additives, the presence of ACP stabilizers is crucial for achieving in vitro intrafibrillar mineralization. However, there is a lack of comprehensive and exhaustive reviews on ACP bioactive materials under the regulation of stabilizers. A detailed summary of these stabilizers is also instrumental in better understanding the complex process of intrafibrillar mineralization. Currently, the biomimetic approach of drawing inspiration from nature has frequently been employed in designing drug nanocarriers (NCs) of actively target various diseases, ranging from cancer to neuronal and inflammation pathologies. The cell-membrane coating can confer upon the inner nanomaterials a biological identity and the functions exhibited by the cells from which the membrane is derived. Monocyte- and macrophage-membrane-coated nanomaterials have emerged as an ideal delivery system to target inflamed vasculature. Herein, we developed two biomimetic NCs using a human-derived leukaemia monocytic cell line (THP-1), either undifferentiated or differentiated by phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate (PMA) into adherent macrophage-like cells as membrane sources for NC coating. We employed a secondary oil-in-water nano-emulsion (SNE) as the inner core, which served as an optimal NC for high payloads of lipophilic compounds. Two different biomimetic systems were produced, combining the biomimetic features of biological membranes with the physicochemical and nano-sized characteristics of SNEs. These systems were named Monocyte NEsoSome (M-NEsoSome) and Macrophage NEsoSome (M0-NEsoSome). Their uptake ability was investigated in tumour necrosis factor alfa (TNFα)-treated human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs), selected as a model of inflamed endothelial cells. The M0 membrane coating demonstrated accelerated internalisation compared with the monocyte coating and notably surpassed the uptake rate of bare NCs. In conclusion, M0-NEsoSome NCs could be a therapeutic system for targeting inflamed endothelial cells and potentially delivering anti-inflammatory drugs in vascular inflammation. Photosystem I (PSI) serves as a model system for studying fundamental processes such as electron transfer (ET) and energy conversion, which are not only central to photosynthesis but also have broader implications for bioenergy production and biomimetic device design. In this study, we employed electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy to investigate key light-induced charge separation steps in PSI isolated from several green algal and cyanobacterial species. Following photoexcitation, rapid sequential ET occurs through either of two quasi-symmetric branches of donor/acceptor cofactors embedded within the protein core, termed the A and B branches. Using high-frequency (130 GHz) time-resolved EPR (TR-EPR) and deuteration techniques to enhance spectral resolution, we observed that at low temperatures prokaryotic PSI exhibits reversible ET in the A branch and irreversible ET in the B branch, while PSI from eukaryotic counterparts displays either reversible ET in both branches or exclusively in the B branch. Furthermore, we observed a notable correlation between low-temperature charge separation to the terminal [4Fe-4S] clusters of PSI, termed FA and FB, as reflected in the measured FA/FB ratio. These findings enhance our understanding of the mechanistic diversity of PSI's ET across different species and underscore the importance of experimental design in resolving these differences. Though further research is necessary to elucidate the underlying mechanisms and the evolutionary significance of these variations in PSI charge separation, this study sets the stage for future investigations into the complex interplay between protein structure, ET pathways, and the environmental adaptations of photosynthetic organisms. Scientific progress within the last few decades has revealed the functional morphology of an insect's sticky footpads—a compliant pad that secretes thin liquid films. However, the physico‐chemical mechanisms underlying their adhesion remain elusive. Here, we explore these underlying mechanisms by simultaneously measuring adhesive force and contact geometry of the adhesive footpads of live, tethered Indian stick insects, Carausius morosus, spanning more than two orders of magnitude in body mass. We find that the adhesive force we measure is similar to the previous measurements that use a centrifuge. Our measurements afford us the opportunity to directly probe the adhesive stress in vivo and use existing theory on capillary adhesion to predict the surface tension of the secreted liquid and compare it to previous assumptions. From our predictions, we find that the surface tension required to generate the adhesive stresses we observed ranges between 0.68 and 12 mN m−1${\rm m}^{-1}$. The low surface tension of the liquid would enhance the wetting of the stick insect's footpads and promote their ability to conform to various substrates. Our insights may inform the biomimetic design of capillary‐based, reversible adhesives and motivate future studies on the physico‐chemical properties of the secreted liquid. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The study of rheological properties in biological fluids, influenced by electroosmosis and magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) peristaltic mechanisms, plays a vital role in designing micro‐scale biomimetic pumping systems for targeted drug delivery. Considering these significant applications, the current study focuses on the integrated analysis of electroosmotic and magnetohydrodynamic peristaltic pumping of Williamson fluid within physiological systems with variable viscosity and thermal conductivity. The dimensional momentum equations are linearized under the approximation of lubrication theory. The current study deals with the impact of various physical parameters on flow, heat transfer, and pumping characteristics. These parameters include the magnetic parameter, variable viscosity, variable thermal conductivity, Helmholtz‐Smoluchowski velocity, and so on. It is noted from the current analysis that, Helmholtz‐Smoluchowski velocity and velocity slip parameters have decreasing effect on skin friction and Sherwood number. The electroosmotic and magnetic parameters contribute to larger trapped bolus sizes. These findings contribute significantly to advancing the development of efficient micro‐scale biomimetic pumping systems tailored for precise target drug delivery applications. Due to their digital processes, countless industries are dependent on an effective intermeshing of humans and machines. This often involves preparatory work or sub-processes being carried out by machines, which humans initiate, take up, continue, finalise or check. Tasks are broken down into sub-steps and completed by humans or machines. Aggregated cooperation conceals the numerous challenges of hybrid cooperation in which communication and coordination must be mastered in favour of joint decision-making. However, research into human-computer interaction can also be thought of differently than a mere aggregation of humans and machines. We want to propose a nature-inspired possibility that has been successfully practising the complex challenges of joint decision-making as proof of successful communication and coordination for millions of years. Collective intelligence and the processes of self-organisation offer biomimetic concepts that can be used to rethink socio-technical systems as a symbiosis in the form of a human-computer organism. This article presents an iris‐mimicking polymeric microparticle with randomly generated silica film cracks to be utilized as a wet‐phase micro security taggant. The microparticles are designed to replicate the capillary patterns in the human iris, providing high data capacity and stability, making them ideal for authentication. Furthermore, the microparticles integrate a QR code within the pupillary zone of the iris, enabling pupillary authentication to enhance two‐factor identification and elevate overall security levels an unprecedented feature absent in conventional iris recognition systems. The resulting artificial iris‐mimicking microparticles have high coding efficiency and unique characteristics and can be authenticated in the wet phase, making them suitable for use as micro security taggants. The discovery of safe platforms that can circumvent the endocytic pathway is of great significance for biological therapeutics that are usually degraded during endocytosis. Here we show that a self‐assembled and dynamic macrocycle can passively diffuse through the cell membrane and deliver a broad range of biologics, including proteins, CRISPR Cas9, and ssDNA, directly to the cytosol while retaining their bioactivity. Cell‐penetrating macrocycle CPM can be easily prepared from the room temperature condensation of diketopyrrolopyrrole lactams with diamines. We attribute the high cellular permeability of CPM to its amphiphilic nature and chameleonic properties. It adopts conformations that partially bury polar groups and expose hydrophobic side chains, thus self‐assembling into micellar‐like structures. Its superior fluorescence makes CPM trackable inside cells where it follows the endomembrane system. CPM outperformed commercial reagents for biologics delivery and showed high RNA knockdown efficiency of CRISPR Cas9. We envisage that this macrocycle will be an ideal starting point to design and synthesize biomimetic macrocyclic tags that can readily facilitate the interaction and uptake of biomolecules and overcome endosomal digestion. Complicated peripheral nerve injuries or defects, especially at branching sites, remain a prominent clinical challenge after the application of different treatment strategies. Current nerve grafts fail to match the expected shape and size for delicate and precise branched nerve repair on a case-by-case basis, and there is a lack of geometrical and microscale regenerative navigation. In this study, we develop a sugar painting-inspired individualized multilevel epi-/peri-/endoneurium-mimetic device (SpinMed) to customize natural cues, featuring a selectively protective outer sheath and an instructive core, to support rapid vascular reconstruction and consequent efficient neurite extension along the defect area. The biomimetic perineurium dictates host-guest crosslinking in which new vessels secrete multimerin 1 binding to the fibroin filler surface as an anchor, contributing to the biological endoneurium that promotes Schwann cell homing and remyelination. SpinMed implantation into rat sciatic nerve defects yields a satisfactory outcome in terms of structural reconstruction, with sensory and locomotive function restoration. We further customize SpinMed grafts based on anatomy and digital imaging, achieving rapid repair of the nerve trunk and branches superior to that achieved by autografts and decellularized grafts in a specific beagle nerve defect model, with reliable biosafety. Overall, this intelligent art-inspired biomimetic design offers a facile way to customize sophisticated high-performance nerve grafts and holds great potential for application in translational regenerative medicine. Highlights Basalt fibers, known as “green materials without pollution in the 21st century”, have gained widespread attention due to its good mechanical properties. Basalt fiber‐based composites have applications in various fields such as construction, transportation, energy, and protection. However, as an inorganic fiber material, basalt fiber is hard and brittle and prone to catastrophic failure, reducing the safety of the material. Therefore, it is important to strengthen the toughness of basalt fiber‐based composites. This paper reviews the contributions made by researchers in recent years to enhance the toughness of basalt fiber reinforced composites. It mainly focuses on four aspects: physical and chemical modification of fibers surface, mixed application of multiple fibers, different textile and 3D printing technology, and design of biomimetic structures. Through these methods, the toughness of basalt fiber‐reinforced composite materials was increased by 10%–90%. In today's advocacy for green industrial development, the research and application of basalt fibers are very important for advancing the process of green development. These contributions can promote the application of basalt fiber in engineering fields. Basalt fiber is a green material without pollution. Basalt fiber reinforced composites is the key material for engineering field. Strengthening interfacial adhesion can significantly improve the toughness of composites. Structural materials such as ceramics, metals, and carbon fiber‐reinforced plastics (CFRP) are frequently threatened by large compressive and impact forces. Energy absorption layers, i.e., polyurethane and silicone foams with excellent damping properties, are applied on the surfaces of different substrates to absorb energy. However, the amount of energy dissipation and penetration resistance are limited in commercial polyurethane foams. Herein, a distinctive nacre‐like architecture design strategy is proposed by integrating hard porous ceramic frameworks and flexible polyurethane buffers to improve energy absorption and impact resistance. Experimental investigations reveal the bioinspired designs exhibit optimized hardness, strength, and modulus compared to that of polyurethane. Due to the multiscale energy dissipation mechanisms, the resulting normalized absorbed energy (≈8.557 MJ m−3) is ≈20 times higher than polyurethane foams under 50% quasi‐static compression. The bioinspired composites provide superior protection for structural materials (CFRP, glass, and steel), surpassing polyurethane films under impact loadings. It is shown CFRP coated with the designed materials can withstand more than ten impact loadings (in energy of 10 J) without obvious damage, which otherwise delaminates after a single impact. Spider silk is renowned for its exceptional mechanical properties, surpassing those of other natural and many synthetic fibers. Yet, replicating its remarkable properties through synthetic production remains a challenge. The variability in the mechanical properties of synthetic spider silks lacking protective coatings, exacerbated by factors such as spinning conditions and humidity levels, poses an additional challenge, impacting their application potential. Bioconjugation offers a versatile synthetic method to modify protein structures, enhancing their pharmacokinetics, solubility, stability, and immune response. In particular, polyethylene glycol (PEG)‐ylation has emerged as a successful strategy with numerous marketed PEG–protein conjugates. This study introduces synthetic spider silk—multiarm PEG bioconjugates, facilitating spidroin crosslinking, and chemical functionalization while retaining a biomimetic spinning approach. Two different examples demonstrate the potential of this approach to improve the fiber's tensile strength and extensibility, respectively, both leading to an increased toughness modulus. Furthermore, the approach could allow the tuning of fiber mechanical properties without developing a new mini‐spidroin construct and fiber coating with lipids attached to multiarm PEG, potentially mitigating the impact of environmental conditions on synthetic spider silk fibers. Within this context, the simultaneous leveraging of both physical and biochemical cues by engineered scaffolding systems can be explored to promote a stronger tenogenic response from stem cells. Here, molecularly imprinted polymeric nanoparticles (MINPs) against transforming growth factor (TGF)‐β3 are combined with bioinspired anisotropic hydrogels to produce tenogenesis‐inductive constructs. MINPs are first solid phase‐imprinted against a TGF‐β3 epitope, achieving an affinity comparable to monoclonal antibodies. MINPs and magnetically‐responsive microfibers are then encapsulated together with adipose‐derived stem cells within gelatin‐based hydrogels, applying a magnetostatic field during gelation to align the microfibers. The created anisotropic microstructure guides cell growth and elongation unidirectionally, while MINPs act as artificial receptors for TGF‐β3, potentiating its paracrine action in the cellular microenvironment. The combination of both stimuli proves effective at increasing TGF‐β signaling, which promotes the expression of tendon‐associated genes and corresponding protein synthesis, suggesting that microstructural cues and biomolecule sequestration act in tandem to direct cell fate commitment. Water molecules pose a significant obstacle to conventional adhesive materials. Nevertheless, some marine organisms can secrete bioadhesives with remarkable adhesion properties. For instance, mussels resist sea waves using byssal threads, sandcastle worms secrete sandcastle glue to construct shelters, and barnacles adhere to various surfaces using their barnacle cement. This work initially elucidates the process of underwater adhesion and the microstructure of bioadhesives in these three exemplary marine organisms. The formation of bioadhesive microstructures is intimately related to the aquatic environment. Subsequently, the adhesion mechanisms employed by mussel byssal threads, sandcastle glue, and barnacle cement are demonstrated at the molecular level. The comprehension of adhesion mechanisms has promoted various biomimetic adhesive systems: DOPA-based biomimetic adhesives inspired by the chemical composition of mussel byssal proteins; polyelectrolyte hydrogels enlightened by sandcastle glue and phase transitions; and novel biomimetic adhesives derived from the multiple interactions and nanofiber-like structures within barnacle cement. Underwater biomimetic adhesion continues to encounter multifaceted challenges despite notable advancements. Hence, this work examines the current challenges confronting underwater biomimetic adhesion in the last part, which provides novel perspectives and directions for future research. In recent years, the global perspective of small molecule activation has directed the focus towards biomimetic oxidations. Phenoxazinone synthase and catechol oxidase, two vital metalloenzymes, have drawn the attention of the scientific community towards their catalytic performances. Different transition metal-based complexes have been investigated to mimic their activities, yet many factors related to their mechanistic aspects and structure–activity relationship still lack detailed investigation. To get better insights into these factors, two penta-coordinated cis-dichloro and dibromo Cu(II) complexes [Cu(L)Cl2] 1 and [Cu(L)Br2] 2 (where L = N,N-dimethyl-4,6-di(pyridin-2-yl)-1,3,5-triazin-2-amine) were synthesized and comprehensively characterized through various spectroscopic and analytical tools such as UV-vis, FT-IR, NMR, EPR and ESI-MS. The redox behaviour of ligands as well as both the copper complexes were analysed. The molecular structure of 1 and 2 was elucidated via single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis and a distorted square pyramidal geometry was determined. The halogen atoms (Cl for 1 and Br for 2) are found to be coordinated in a cis fashion for better substrate attachment. Catalytic performances towards the oxidation of o-aminophenol (OAPH) and 3,5-di-tert-butylcatechol (3,5-DTBC) were investigated using UV-vis spectrophotometry. Significant kinetic parameters towards the catalytic activities for 1 and 2 were determined. In terms of OAPH oxidation ability, both complexes were found to be quite comparable, with 2 having greater catalytic performance (Kcat = 156.7 h−1) than 1 (Kcat = 124.5 h−1). However, 2 shows remarkably superior activity for 3,5-DTBC oxidation (Kcat = 367.8 h−1, ∼4.5 times) than 1 (Kcat = 82.2 h−1). The mass spectrometric investigation provides information about the probable mechanistic path towards the oxidation of both the substrates. Iodometric titration experiments were performed to identify H2O2 formation, which proves the involvement of molecular O2 during the catalytic oxidation. Overall, this study offers a detailed investigation on the significance of structural lability and their profound catalytic activities for biomimetic applications, which may open a new direction toward future advancements. Blood scarcity is one of the main causes of healthcare disruptions worldwide, with blood shortages occurring at an alarming rate. Over the last decades, blood substitutes have aimed at reinforcing the supply of blood, with several products (e.g., hemoglobin (Hb)‐based oxygen (O2) carriers, perfluorocarbons (PFC)) achieving a limited degree of success. Regardless, there is still no widespread solution to this problem due to persistent challenges in product safety and scalability. In this Review, different advances are described in the field of blood substitution, particularly in the development of artificial red blood cells, otherwise known as engineered erythrocytes (EE). The different strategies are categorized into natural, synthetic, or hybrid approaches, and discuss their potential in terms of safety and scalability. Synthetic EEs are identified as the most powerful approach, and describe erythrocytes from a materials engineering perspective. Their biological structure and function are reviewed, as well as explore different methods of assembling a material‐based cell. Specifically, it is discussed how to recreate size, shape, and deformability through particle fabrication, and how to recreate the functional machinery through synthetic biology and nanotechnology. It is concluded by describing the versatile nature of synthetic erythrocytes in medicine and pharmaceuticals and propose specific directions for the field of erythrocyte engineering. The adhesion of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) to the endothelial lumen and their extravasation to surrounding tissues are crucial in the seeding of metastases and remain the most complex events of the metastatic cascade to study. Integrins expressed on CTCs are major regulators of the extravasation process. This knowledge is primarily derived from animal models and biomimetic systems based on artificial endothelial layers, but these methods have ethical or technical limitations. We present a versatile microfluidic device to study cancer cell extravasation that mimics the endothelial barrier by using a porous membrane functionalized with DNA origami nanostructures (DONs) that display nanoscale patterns of adhesion peptides to circulating cancer cells. The device simulates physiological flow conditions and allows direct visualization of cell transmigration through microchannel pores using 3D confocal imaging. Using this system, we studied integrin‐specific adhesion in the absence of other adhesive events. Specifically, we show that the transmigration ability of the metastatic cancer cell line MDA‐MB‐231 is influenced by the type, distance, and density of adhesion peptides present on the DONs. Furthermore, studies with mixed ligand systems indicate that integrins binding to RGD (arginine‐glycine‐aspartic acid) and IDS (isoleucine‐aspartic acid‐serine) did not synergistically enhance the extravasation process of MDA‐MB‐231 cells.
